Twenty people have died, and over 2,000 displaced, following devastating flood that have swept through Bade Local Government Area of Yobe since early August, according to the council chairman, Alhaji Babagana Ibrahim.

Speaking in Gashua, Ibrahim said most of the victims were trapped beneath debris from collapsed mud houses. The floods have destroyed more than 10,000 houses and farmlands in over 200 communities.

Among the hardest-hit villages are Misilli, Lawan Musa, Dagona, Dala, Katuzu, and Sabongarin Gashua. The displaced are currently sheltered in three camps: Goodluck, Zango 2, and Babuje, with the council providing food despite limited resources.

Former Senate President, Sen. Ahmed Lawan, donated N10 million to support the victims, while the state government is distributing non-food relief items.

Ibrahim called on the federal government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to step in as the number of affected residents continues to grow.

“The scale of this disaster is beyond Bade’s capacity to handle. We urgently need federal intervention,” he pleaded.

Buni unveils 10-year devt masterplan for Damaturu

The approval of the master plan, the state government said, is a fitting answer to the remodeling of the state’s pathway towards a realistic and consistent socio-economic development paradigm, properly articulated as a long term visioning and planning.

”The capital city master plan has not been updated in two and half decades.

APC has no qualified candidates for 2023 ―PDP

…advised Tinubu to withdraw from race

… insists qualification process was midwived by illegal Cttee

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday maintained that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no legally valid candidates for the 2023 general elections because Governor Mai Mala Buni midwifed the process leading to the emergence of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in violation of section 183 of the Constitution.

The party has, therefore, advised the ruling party presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, to return home and face other issues.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, revealed this in a press briefing stating: “The APC has become prostrate, handicapped and incapacitated to campaign as it has no legally valid candidate for the 2023 general elections.

“Recall that the PDP had on February 22, 2022, and March 8, 2022, cautioned that with its foisting of an illegal and unconstitutional leadership, the APC has become ‘legally defunct, structurally crippled and no longer a legitimate and valid vehicle to field candidates for elections under our laws.’

“The PDP had cautioned all aspirants in the APC then not to waste their resources, time and energy in the APC as they will be on a journey to nowhere. Today, the chicken has finally come home to roost.

“As you are aware, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday, September 30, 2022, nullified the candidature of Governor Gboyega Oyetola in the July 16 2022 Osun State Governorship election on the ground that his nomination was invalid, having been conducted and submitted by Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, in violation of Section 183 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

“For emphasis, Section 183 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) provides that a state governor ‘shall not, during the period when he holds office, hold any other executive office or paid employment in any capacity whatsoever.’

“This judgment reaffirms the judgment of the Court of Appeal in the case of Jegede vs INEC that a violation of any provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) particularly as it relates to Section 183 portends grave consequences.

“The import of the September 30, 2022 judgment of the Federal High Court is that every decision made by Governor Mai Mala Buni as Chairman of the APC is null and void as you cannot place something on nothing and expect it to stand.

“Consequently, the Congresses as well as the National Convention which produced APC Excos including the Sen. Adamu Abdullahi-led NWC is void.

The Yobe Government has dismissed as “false and misleading ” report of sectarian violence in parts of the state.

Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to Gov. Mai Mala Buni, gave the clarifications in a statement in Damaturu on Sunday.

Mohammed dismissed as “fake news” social media report insinuating religious violence in parts of the state, adding that the post was the handwork of mischief makers and enemies of the state.

He said, “the attention of Yobe Government has been drawn to fake, absolutely false and misleading post in the social media purportedly claiming that Yobe is boiling.

“The post mischievously claimed – Yobe state in Nigeria is boiling now. Churches are being burnt, many Christians killed. Please pray even if it is 5-minutes and forward to other people of Faith for intercession.”

Mamman said the deceitful article was deliberately circulated to fan embers of hatred and crisis among Nigerians of different faiths.

“The mendacious post is over five years old. As a practicing journalist, l had then received several calls from colleagues residing outside Yobe, seeking for details and clarifications.

“I wish to make it abundantly clear, just as the police authorities in the state had earlier done, that Yobe by the special grace of God is calm and peaceful.

Amidst fresh defection reports, Fani-Kayode visits two APC governors in Abuja [Photos]

A former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Femi Fani-Kayode, may be on his way back to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) six years after dumping the party for the PDP.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Fani-Kayode, a strong critic of President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling party, left APC for PDP on June 2, 2014, barely a year to the general elections which brought Buhari and APC to power.

Announcing his resignation from APC in 2014, the former Minister said, “I wish to inform the general public that as at today, 2nd June 2014, I have left the APC and gone back to the PDP. I wish the APC well in all their endeavours, but as at today, we have parted ways forever and my spirit has left them.”

However, there seems to be a new development when Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State on Monday received Fani-Kayode at his Abuja residence, appealing to Nigerians to practice politics without bitterness.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Onogwu Muhammed, quoted Bello in a statement as saying that embracing politics without bitterness would boost nation building and promote national integration.

Bello described Fani Kayode’s visit as a welcome development, stressing that all hands must be on deck to ensure that Nigeria remained an indivisible entity.

The governor said also that stakeholders must ensure that the fight against insecurity was fought without ethnic and regional biases.

“The support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in fighting insecurity and poverty in the country must be holistic, irrespective of party differences.”

“The All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the hope of Nigeria and it is important for everyone to support Buhari’s administration for the development of Nigeria as a country.

Also speaking, Fani-Kayode described Bello as a phenomenal leader and bridge builder, saying that he had a fruitful discussion with the governor.

“It was an honour to have spent quality time with the governor — my friend and brother.

“We had a frank, candid, fruitful and productive discussion on the way forward for our country.

“This is a clear case of politics without bitterness and of building bridges. This is a time that we as Nigerians must all come together as one to save our country,” Fani-Kayode said.

The governor and the former minister also visited Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, who is also the Caretaker Chairman of the APC.
