Rivers Politics: Our camp still the strongest, will win in 2027 – Wike boasts

Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s, Federal Capital Territory on Sunday, expressed optimism that his political camp would defeat any opposition in the 2027 elections.

Wike made this known  during a thanksgiving service by a federal lawmaker, Senator Barinada Mpigi in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area of the state.

According to The FCT Minister,  the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic tarty, PDP, are united in Rivers State ahead of the next general elections.

He said, “With the forces we have I don’t know of anybody who can challenge us. I can tell you it is like tomorrow is 2027. For me it is still very far, I can’t wait.

“The two leadership of the party, APC is here, PDP is here; where can you find that leadership unity? Which state? It is only in Rivers that you can find that unity.

“And that is what many people don’t like. When they see people united and working together, they find how to make sure they are divided but since we know, we have refused to be divided”.

TheNewsGuru.com reports  that Wike has been at loggerheads with his successor, Siminalayi Fubara in Rivers state.

It would be recalled that Rivers State was recently in a political crisis following alleged moves by Wike to impose decisions on the current administration.

Rivers: I will not succumb to intimidation, blackmail – Governor Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara has explained that he will never succumb to any kind of intimidation or blackmail.

Fubara said the state is the people’s inheritance. Hence, he would protect and defend it from blackmail or any kind of pressure.

The Ijaw born Governor gave this explanation during the quarterly general meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt.

The governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, were involved in a face-off over the political structure of the state.

Recall that Wike, who is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, had accused Fubara of neglecting the structure that brought him into power.

The face-off between the duo led to an impeachment move against Fubara, but President Bola Tinubu intervened.

However, speaking at the event, Fubara said: “Let us not forget that Rivers State is our collective inheritance, presently under my watch, to protect, defend and advance it as the governor.

“I assure you that I will not fail in this responsibility, nor will I surrender our mandate and progress to intimidation, blackmail and deliberate sabotage.

“I reaffirm my earlier statement and recommit myself to the path of peace as there is nothing to gain in a state of needless crisis.”

Fubara said no society would thrive without peace and security.

2027: Nyesom Wike speaks on contesting for president

Nyesom Wike the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister has finally reacted to the news making the rounds about his presidential ambition come 2027.

According to Wike he would not be contesting in 2027, saying it would amount to disloyalty should he nurse such ambition.

Continuing, he said president Tinubu made him minister and it wouldn’t augur well for him to contest against him in 2027.

Wike added that he remained loyal to the Tinubu administration, Wike remembered how his eternal search for justice prompted him and five other Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors to create the G5 to canvass for transition of power to the Southern part of the country.

The minister stated in an interview on Friday in Abuja that excellent character should never be sacrificed on the altar of politics.

He said, “Tinubu made me the FCT minister and I won’t allow anybody to crumble our political structure. No!

“Tinubu made me minister, people don’t understand, I have character. What will happen in 2027? I stood and I said I am not going to support injustice. I was threatened that they would do me this and that. They tried many options including using Major Generals.”

Wike finally speaks on Rivers crisis, says you can’t make me politically irrelevant

…as PDP govs meet him today

… insists the right thing must be done

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has finally spoken on the crisis in Rivers State amid the plot to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports this is just as governors elected under the platform of PDP meet with him today.

The FCT minister disclosed this while receiving South-South leaders at his office on Tuesday, Wike, a former Rivers State Governor, emphasised the importance of holding his base to maintain his political relevance.

He maintained that once he loses his base as a politician, he has lost his relevance politically.

Wike explained that no amount of calumny levelled against him would make him lose sleep, adding that the right thing must be done.

“All of us want to be politically relevant; all of us want to maintain our political structure,” the minister said.

“Is it not your political structure? Will you allow anybody to just cut you out immediately? Everybody has a base. If you take my base, am I not politically irrelevant?”
The relationship between Wike and Fubara is said to have gone sour following the threat by the Assembly to impeach the governor.

Some have accused Wike of being the brain behind the impeachment plot. The Rivers Assembly Complex was turned into a confusion theatre after fire gutted a section on Sunday night
There was also some drama on Monday morning with the removal of principal officers in the Assembly as gunshots rent the air.

Fubara had stormed the Complex on Monday to see the level of the damage and alleged that he was shot at by the police, an allegation the police said was being probed.

Both Wike and Fubara are of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). But Wike noted that internal wranglings are common in politics and will be settled using the party’s mechanisms.
“In politics, there are a lot of internal wranglings,” he said.

“But to come out and say ‘Oh they want to do this against me, it will not work.’ I had every power then to say where this thing is going. So, when things are wrong, you ask questions. It is a party affair. The party knows how they resolve their own mechanism, it is not an ethnic affair.

“Our party is coming to it, that is what I will say. Every politician has his own interest,” the former governor added.

Meanwhile, the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, known as PDP Governors’ Forum, will today (Wednesday) meet the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for reconciliation and mediation purposes.

The forum made this known in a statement issued by its Director-General, Cyril Maduabum, on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

Maduabum noted that the governors’ decision to visit Wike was reached at the forum’s meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

”The Chairman of the Forum, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, hereby requests member Governors to converge at his residence, No 1 Miriam Aloma Muktar Street, Asokoro, opposite Rivers State Governors Lodge at 10.45 am to accompany him for the visit,” he noted.

Maduabum added that the meeting will hold at the FCT Minister’s office by 11 a.m.

The latest development is coming after some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly moved to impeach the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

This led to chaos in the state on Monday as the governor and his loyalists stormed the Assembly complex in protest against the plot.

Also speaking on the crisis, the PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, said President Bola Tinubu had intervened in the crisis.

Mohammed, while briefing State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, said: “We had a closed session where very serious national issues were discussed that has serious security implications. That is the problem emerging in Rivers.

“The president in his usual leadership position intervened and then it will appear that there will be peace in that respect.

“He has showed that he is a president for everybody.”

Justice Eberechi Wike wants randy men who defile minors amputated

A judge of the Rivers State High Court, Eberechi Wike, has suggested the amputation of people found guilty of defiling minors.

Justice Wike, who is the wife of the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, stated this on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 2nd National Conference of Family Court Judges, Magistrates, and other Family Court Practitioners in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

She insisted that the current punishment isn’t drastic enough, adding that the move will deter sexual offenders from molesting minors.

According to the judge, society should step up punishments for people who defile children beyond life imprisonment or a 14-year jail term.

She said: “We should do much more. I think we should do something that will be really drastic, that will make them think twice before they do that. I cannot think of anything better than having legislation that whatever part of your body you use on a child while defiling the child, that part should be cut off.

If it is your finger, if it is your mouth if it is your private part. I think men will take it more seriously when you come up with such legislation. I hope a man in the House of Reps or Senate sponsors a bill like that.”

FCT minister, Wike dares PDP to suspend him

Former Rivers governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Nyesom Wike, has dared the leadership of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to suspend or take disciplinary actions against him.

Wike stated this on Wednesday during his interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

Recall that the Rivers-born politician was sworn in as minister of FCT some days ago under the administration of President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC)

According to Wike, he informed PDP leadership before he took the ministerial offer of President Tinubu.

Wike, however, boasted that he has not seen any PDP chieftain that will suspend him from the party.

When asked “Are you afraid that your party might move against you or expel you?”

Wike replied: “Who is the party?Who are the PDP people? How can anybody talk about expelling me? A State that brought a governor, a State that brought three senators, a state that produced 32 members out of 32 House of Assembly and produced 11 out of 13 House of Reps.

“The person that would suspend me is the one that couldn’t produce a governor, is the one that couldn’t produce senators and Assembly?

“Look, I have not seen that person with all due respect. I should be the one calling for their discipline for violating the party’s constitution.”

  • HURIWA to Wike: FCT is not Rivers, you must respect laws of our country

HURIWA to Wike: FCT is not Rivers, you must respect laws of our country

…also warns other fresh ministers to work in line with established laws

Civil Rights Advocacy group, HURIWA had cautioned the newly-inaugurated ministers to work in line with the Constitution just as the Rights group has specifically warned the minister of FCT Mr Nyesom Wike who is a lawyer to be law abiding and administer the Federal Capital Territory with absolute respect to the Constitution, the principle of Rule of law and to act in line with civility, decorum and orderliness.

The minister must desist from thinking that he is a dictator of Abuja the way some of them acted in their previous offices as governors.

HURIWA warned that the office of a federal minister is unlike that of the governor whereby some lawless office holders behave in the office of governor like emperors who are above the law even as the Rights group noted the statement by Nyesom Wike that he will demolish all illegal structure shows that he is overzealous but HURIWA has clearly warned the new minister against political vendetta and abuse of office which contravenes section 15(5) of the Nigerian constitution. “Nyesom Wike should be told that he is not the governor of Federal Capital Territory but a servant of the people in his capacity as the caretaker of the FCT whereas the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is the lawful landlord of FCT.

HURIWA’s caution on Nyesom Wike is encompassed in a media statement it issued titled AGENDA FOR MINISTERS in which the Rights group stated as follows:
“First, we need to admit that the number of ministers just sworn in, is huge and Nigeria as at today is not in the right frame of mind economically and otherwise to fund such a very large government that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has decided to set up. What on earth is Nigeria doing with over 40 ministers which will cost Nigeria humongous taxpayers money to maintain their offices and those of their numerous special assistants to these ministers. The best thing for a nation with over 130 million multidimensionally poor Nigerians is for the nation to run a very lean government that wouldn’t cost the national treasury so much to run so the Country can conserve the funds to invest in human capital/capacity development of Nigerians for greater national productivity and sustainable development.

Be that as it may, what we would itemise to the ministers as collective national agenda for sustainable development, enhanced security, enhanced national productivity, agricultural growth, and protection of the fundamental human rights of the citizens, is to tell each of them to pay greater attention towards achieving the goal and objectives of the current government which are clearly highlighted in the manifesto of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the developmental Blueprint of the All Progressives Congress that sponsored the President in the election in which INEC declared him as winner.

The minister of Justice and the Attorney General of the Federation must ensure that the judiciary is not encumbered by the atrocious acts of disobedience of court orders by security chiefs, the IGP, the DG of DSS and all other persons wielding authority bestowed on them via their appointments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The AGF MUST ensure that the judges are not attacked by the DSS as they did under the previous government of Muhammadu Buhari who used the DSS to force the justices of Supreme Court of Nigeria and other divisions of the court system to do their executive bidding.

As the head of the public bar, the AGF who is a well respected litigation lawyer must ensure that the Constitution is respected by all including the President and the AGF MUST never use his office to truncate the prosecution of top government officials involved in corrupt practices who were already caught and are undergoing prosecution by the EFCC and the ICPC.

THE AGF MUST SANITISE THE DETENTION FACILITIES OF DSS, POLICE, EFCC and make sure that extrajudicial execution of suspects that are used by the police as their methodology is stopped and all the police operatives indicted in the use of extrajudicial execution of suspects must be arrested, prosecuted and sanctioned in compliance with the rule of law.

The AGF MUST be concerned about security forces who aren’t respecting the rules of engagement in internal security operations which are outlawed by chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

By and large, all officials of government and agencies must comply with the provisions of chapter 4 of the Constitution which are the human rights provisions as well as all binding legislations that are made to promote good governance, open government, transparency and accountability of all officials of government.

The ministers must be made to sign on to PETFORMANCE ASSESSMENT CONTRACT whereby the President through the SGF will monitor the performance of the cabinet level members of government and also the National Assembly must play their oversight responsibility on all government officials as well as the SGF.

The principle of checks and balances is critical to achieving the goal of rapid development of the Country within the shortest possible period.

The ministries of Petroleum, Gas and Environment must be ready to enforce all regulations and legislative templates on Green energy and the eradication of the abuses and degradation of the environment by crude oil producing companies so there is the urgency if the now for the Niger Delta oil producing communities to be cleaned up of the most serious environmental factors that degrade the environment and have rendered the community residents unproductive particularly because their farms and fish ponds are polluted.

There is the need for these key environmental related and crude oil ministers including that of Gas and solid mineral to pay close attention to CLIMATE CHANGE and enforce new methods of mineral mining that wouldn’t compound the already severe cases of consequences of climate change.

The minister of water resources must know that 50 percent of Nigerian communities have no clean sources of water for drinking and hygiene just as open defecation is still prevalent which must be eradicated.

The FCT minister must clean up Abuha, avoid land racketeering and work assiduously to make Abuja clean, green and functional in all facets because for now Abuja has zero transportation system and there is no affordable housing for even the civil servants.

The minister for Womem Affairs must promote child welfare and work on a template to defend vulnerable children from sexyal exploitation just as the Minister need to reach out to NAPTIP to ensure that Nigerian children are not exploited abd trafficked for sex as we have been seeing.

This trend must be halted but this requires multidimensional approaches by the ministers of Women Affairs, Justice to be able to achieve this.

The minister of works must fix the collapsed Federal roads infrastructures all over and give the South East a sense of belonging by delivering quality Federal roads and fix those dead and collapsed roads in the entire Soutj East and South South regions of Nigeria.

Importantly, the ministers must never be caught getting involved in contracts scam and procurement corruption. The ministers of defence and his minister of state do not give us any hope that they can resolve the security situation because they are bereft of any idea on national security and the worst thing is that the minister of state for defence as governor had unholy communion with terrorists killing his people through some kinds of illegal amnesty programmes which is against the constitution. So it is doubtful what those ones can bring on the table.”

National Coordinator, HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA).

PDP palaver : Wike slams PDP, says Gov Ortom won’t appear before any so called Cttee

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has slammed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) for suspending former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose over allegations of anti-party activities and inviting Governor Samuel to appear before what he described as any so called committee.

Briefing journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Wike argued that the party’s NWC does not have the power to suspend Mr Fayose, nor refer Mr Ortom to a disciplinary committee.

The governor also criticized the NWC’s decision to summon Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom to appear before a disciplinary committee for a similar allegation of anti-party activities.

According to him, the Benue governor “will not appear before any so-called disciplinary committee.”

Wike said the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, is the one who should be suspended for refusing to obey the constitution of the party on zoning of political positions.

He added that Ayu also failed to deliver his polling unit and political ward during the just-concluded general elections, alleging that Ayu has just begun “the mother of all political wars”.
