    Davido derides governor Oyetola over tribunal petition

    Nigerian artiste, David Adeleke, famously known as simply  Davido, has mocked Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola for challenging his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke’s victory at the election petition tribunal.

    On Friday, Oyetola officially filed his petition at the election tribunal in Osogbo to challenge the victory of Adeleke at the polls.

    Governor Oyetola submitted the petition on Friday alongside one of the petitioners’ counsels, Kunle Adegoke (SAN) at Osun State High Court, Oke-Fia, Osogbo, the state capital.

    In his reaction to the matter, Davido took to Twitter to express his mind concerning the petition filed by Oyetola.

    His Tweet reads: defeat is painful and urged Oyetola to congratulate Adeleke

     

    He wrote further, “O LULE PART 2 loading @GboyegaOyetola, defeat is painful.

    “Your excellency sir @GboyegaOyetola when will you congratulate the Incoming governor of your state @AAdeleke_01 … in 2018 my uncle congratulated you even though it was stolen. Do the right thing baba. one love.”

    Davido campaigned vigorously for his uncle the governor-elect before the July 16th Osun guber polls.

    Osun Guber Poll: Oyetola speaks on losing re-election bid

    Osun state governor Adegboyega Oyetola has appealed to his supporters to remain calm and resolute after losing his re-election bid to Sen. Ademola Adeleke in the just concluded guber poll in the state.

    Governor Oyetola made this announcement via his media aide and chief press Secretary Ismail Omipidan, on Sunday in Osogbo.

    He said the All Progressives Congress (APC) had taken cognizance of the results of the governorship election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

    The governor, however, noted that the party would be responding appropriately after studying the results and consulting with critical stakeholders of the party.

    Oyetola called on his supporters to remain calm, and the people of the state to go about their businesses without let or hindrance.

    The governor also called on security operatives to ensure the maintenance of law and order.

    Oyetola also directed security operatives to take adequate charge to prevent the breakdown of law and order.

    Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday morning declared Adeleke as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

    Announcing the results at the INEC Collation Centre, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who was the Returning Officer, said that Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to defeat his closet rival, Gov. Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 375,027 votes.

    The result showed that  PDP won in 17 local government areas, while APC won in 13.

    The 13 local government areas won by APC are; Ilesa East, Ayedaade, Boripe, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Boripe, Ola-Oluwa, Iwo, Asokan, Irewole, Atakumosa East, and Ife East.

    While the 17 local government areas won by PDP are; Boluwaduro, Osogbo, Ila, Atakumosa West, Ifelodun, Ilesa West, Odo-Otin, Obokun, Orolu, Olorunda, Ife North, Irepodun, Oriade, Ede South, Ejigbo, Ede North and Egbedore.

    Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba (Dr) Adekunle Aromolaran, has disclosed that any Ijesa man not satisfied with the second term bid of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola can smash head on pole.
    This is as the monarch added that Ijesaland is standing behind the Governor to ensure he is re-elected for another term in office.
    The monarch who speaks in Yoruba while receiving the Governor at his palace in Ilesa during Oyetola’s tour of Ijesa-south federal constituency on Wednesday, said the Ijesas are not known for rascality, hence, committed to peaceful re-election of the Governor come July 16, 2022.
    “You are the candidate that will win Ijesaland, whosoever oppose your candidature can smash his head on pole. You don’t need to waste your time soliciting votes in Ijesaland because you already have our support, your outstanding performance is enough to earn you our votes.
    “We can’t be ingrate to you at the time you need our support, there is no other person to be voted for during the 2022 Osun governorship election other than you.
    “We don’t give room for rascality in Ijesaland. The support we will give you would peaceful. We have warned our wards that they should not get themselves involved in thuggery.
    “I pledge on behalf of the Ijesha people that we will give your administration full support to ensure that you win come July 16 2022.

    #EndSARS: Gov Oyetola suspends 24-hour curfew

    Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun on Friday announced the suspension of the 24-hour curfew imposed on the state to tackle the rising violence and damages caused by hoodlums under the #EndSARS protest.

    Oyetola, in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Wole Oyebamiji, in Osogbo, noted the high level of compliance with the 24-hour curfew he had declared to forestall breakdown of law and order.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oyetola on Tuesday announced a 24-hour curfew effective from 11. 59 p.m. same day.

    Oyetola said the curfew followed the unfortunate dangerous dimension the EndSARS protest had assumed across the country, particularly in the South-West States.

    The governor,however, commended the residents for their show of understanding and cooperation in the last 48 hours of the curfew.

    He equally hailed the youths for displaying high sense of maturity in carrying out their protest.

    “The suspension is to allow members of the public approach the Panel to make their submissions and to go about their lawful businesses.

    ” However, government will not hesitate to reinstate the curfew should the need arise.

    “Government remains committed to the cause of our youths and the #EndSARS protesters and shall take every necessary step to ensure that their demands are met.

    “Considering government’s commitment and determination to meet the demands of the protesters, we appeal to the protesting youths to suspend their protest and engage Government in a dialogue”.

    Oyetola enjoined residents of the state to be peaceful and to be law abiding, saying all efforts would be made to protect them and their property.

    NAN also reports that the governor on Thursday inaugurated 12-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry to look into alleged brutality and other forms of rights abuses by officers and men of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police.
