Governor of Delta State, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Wednesday, commiserated with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, over the death of his mother, Mama Lydia Yilwatda.

Oborevwori, who led a delegation to Yilwatda’s residence in Abuja, described her development as a “mixed feeling,” noting that while Nigerians recently celebrated the APC Chairman’s election, the joy was soon overshadowed by the loss of his beloved mother.

The Governor, who was accompanied by members of the National Assembly from Delta State including Hon. Nicholas Mutu, Hon. Francis Waive, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, and Hon. Ngozi Okolie as well as his Senior Political Adviser, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, noted that the late matriarch lived a fulfilled life, raising a family that has produced a professor, a minister, and now the National Chairman of the ruling party.

He stressed that her legacy of discipline, faith, and service would remain a source of pride to the family and the wider community.

“We cannot question God. The Bible says there is a time to be born and a time to die. Mama has lived a very good life, and she has raised her family very well. Our prayers and thoughts are with our National Chairman and his family,” Oborevwori said.

The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Darlington Ijeh, stated this at the inauguration of the Kokori Progressive Union Secretariat in Ethiope East Local Government Area.

Oborevwori described the inauguration as not only a milestone for the Kokori people but also a significant security statement, especially with the involvement of the Nigerian Navy.

According to him, the Navy has consistently demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility in responding to societal challenges.

“This project is more than just a union secretariat; it is a symbol of security presence and a commitment to community development,” the Governor said.

“We live in times when insecurity and drug abuse among youths have become serious concerns. That is why our government is partnering with law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe environment for economic growth and sustainable development.”

He explained that the intervention was approved by the Chief of Naval Staff as a quick-impact project in honour of Rear Admiral Mike Unurhiere, whom he described as a son of Kokori and a shining example of distinguished service.

Oborevwori urged young people in Kokori to emulate Rear Admiral Unurhiere’s dedication and professionalism, stressing that role models like him should inspire them to aspire for excellence.

“Our joy in this project is that the Nigerian Navy will now be closer to Kokori. This will go a long way in boosting security and social order. As a government, we remain resolute in sustaining partnerships with security agencies to make Delta State safer for social and economic activities,” he added.

The Kokori Progressive Union Secretariat was officially inaugurated by the Governor, represented by Dr. Ijeh, to the delight of community leaders, naval officers, and residents who turned out in large numbers for the ceremony.

Oborevwori administration fair to all Deltans – Aniagwu

..says Govt Projects Are Visible In Isoko, Other Parts Of Delta

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has reaffirmed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration remains committed to fairness, equity, and balanced development across the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Asaba, Aniagwu said the MORE Agenda is being implemented in a manner that impacts every part of Delta State, ensuring that all 25 local government areas, the 10 federal constituencies, and the three senatorial districts benefit from government projects.

Aniagwu stated that in the last two years, Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated fairness across all divides in the state, and while citizens have the right to make demands, such demands should acknowledge the progress already made rather than suggest nothing is being done.

Flanked by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Polices, Mr Olisa Ifeajika and Executive Assistant on Media, Norbert Chiazor, he stressed that the administration promised more and it’s delivering more.

Reacting to recent criticisms from a section of the Isoko Nation, Aniagwu said such remarks were either politically motivated or made by individuals unaware of the level of development in their communities.

He noted that there is hardly any meeting of the State Executive Council where projects are not approved for Isoko, citing the recent approval of the Ogodogo–Ivu Access Road in Okpolo-Enhwe, Isoko South Local Government Area, at a cost of ₦5.1 billion, a strategic route leading to major oil facilities.

He listed several other road projects completed or ongoing in the area, including Otekpo Road in Elu, internal roads in Isoko South, the Uzere–Asaba-Ase Bridge, the Isoko Ring Road linking multiple communities, Emede internal roads, the Enuru–Ikuli Access Road, the Uruaka Express Link Road in Emede, the Olomoro–Igbide Road, the Emevor–Orogun Road Phase 1 and ongoing Phase 2, as well as Okpolo-Enhwe Internal Roads Phases 1 and 2.

He also mentioned portions of the reconstructed Ughelli–Asaba Expressway that pass through Isoko.

Aniagwu further explained that Isoko remains the only federal constituency in Delta hosting two state-owned universities, the Southern Delta University, Ozoro, and the Oleh Campus of Delta State University, which houses the faculties of Law and Engineering.

Under Governor Oborevwori, the state has completed the College of Medical Sciences at Southern Delta University, completed the Senate Building and internal roads at the Ozoro campus, established the College of Health Technology in Ovrode, and equipped the General Hospital in Ozoro.

He added that within just one year of assuming office, the Governor had visited Isoko two times to inaugurate projects, underscoring his commitment to the area.

The Commissioner appealed to critics to avoid what he described as “dirty politics” as the 2027 election season approaches, warning against attempts to discredit the government for political gain.

He assured that the administration would not be distracted from its developmental agenda and would continue to carry every part of the state along.

Aniagwu urged residents of Isoko to rejoice when projects are executed elsewhere, just as others rejoice when Isoko benefits, emphasising that the Oborevwori administration will remain fair to all.

He maintained that no local government area is without the footprint of the present administration across key sectors.

On the looming flood threat predicted across the country, Aniagwu disclosed that the state government is already desilting drainages and water channels to mitigate the impact.

He appealed to residents to stop dumping refuse into drains and advised those living in flood-prone areas to relocate upland before the floods arrive.

Iduh Amadhe urges Isoko Nation to place trust in Oborevwori

The Grand Patron of the Isoko Development Union (IDU), High Chief Iduh Amadhe, has called on the people of Isoko Nation in Delta State to place unwavering trust in Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, assuring that the Governor will not neglect their interests as an integral part of the state.

Speaking to journalists in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area, Chief Amadhe reacted to concerns over the exclusion of Isoko Nation from the N230 billion worth of projects recently approved by the State Executive Council (EXCO).

“There is no doubt that Governor Oborevwori’s administration means well for the Isoko people. The MORE Agenda cannot be implemented to its logical conclusion without the Isoko Nation receiving its fair share,” he said.

He explained that the recent approval was not an annual budget but a single EXCO decision, adding that many more such meetings would be held during the Governor’s tenure.

“If Isoko was not accommodated in this round, it can be in the next,” he noted.

Chief Amadhe appealed to aggrieved persons, including those who have gone to court, to sheath their swords and allow the cultural and political leadership to resolve issues through dialogue and lobbying.

“We must never put the cart before the horse. Where we are going is far better than where we are coming from,” he stated.

He emphasised the importance of unity, focus, and speaking with one voice, recalling a similar incident during former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s tenure when an alleged 1% allocation to Isoko sparked disquiet but was resolved amicably after proper consultations and clarifications.

According to him, there are clear signs that Governor Oborevwori has not neglected the Isoko people in his first two years in office.

“As an in-law to the Isoko Nation, the Governor will never work against the land of origin of the First Lady, his wife and our daughter,” he assured.

The IDU Grand Patron expressed confidence that future project approvals will duly accommodate Isoko Nation, stressing that as a leading oil and gas producing ethnic group, they cannot be undermined.

On the looming flood forecast, Chief Amadhe advised residents to be proactive by harvesting their crops early and preparing to relocate to higher grounds if necessary.

He urged the government to mobilise relevant agencies promptly to mitigate the impact of the perennial flooding.

Oborevwori inspects Warri Stadium, amidst cheers

    …assures Of Timely, Quality Completion

As part of efforts to revamp Delta State’s sports infrastructure and promote athletic and other sports, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Saturday inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the Warri Township Stadium.

Fielding questions from journalists during the inspection, Governor Oborevwori expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress and reaffirmed his commitment to quality and timely delivery of the project.

He expressed confidence in the contractors’ capacity to deliver a world-class facility that will serve the people of Warri and beyond, noting that the project was already boosting local economic activities, with over 176 youths employed on-site.

“We are confident that the contractor will deliver on time. A new indoor sports hall is under construction, and residents are already benefiting from the renovation. Once completed, Warri people will be proud, and visitors will enjoy a modern facility”, he said.

Oborevwori emphasized that the stadium, once completed, would not only serve as a hub for sports and entertainment but also symbolize the town’s growing sports reputation, especially with Warri Wolves Football Club qualifying for the Premier League.

The governor disclosed that although the initial plan was to build an entirely new stadium, the government opted for a comprehensive renovation of the existing structure due to limited available land in the area. He added that a hospitality suite is being considered as part of the modernization efforts.

Facilities under reconstruction include the steelwork at the main bowl, a FIFA-standard football pitch, underground drainage systems, and an Olympic-size swimming pool, among others.

Governor Oborevwori said his visit marked a significant milestone in ensuring that contractors remain accountable for delivering quality work within the scheduled timeline.

Also speaking, Engr. Olaruwaju Adeleke of Peculiar Concern Limited, the project contractor, assured that the stadium would be completed on time.

“We are three months into the project and have completed 100 percent of the steel fabrication and erection, except for a few open areas. Work is currently ongoing on the pitch,” Engr. Adeleke said.

He projected that by December, the running track and pitch grassing would be completed. However, he clarified that while the stadium may not be ready for the current Premier League season, it is expected to be fully operational by the next.

“The Premier League season will start very soon, so we may not use the stadium for this season. But we are optimistic that Warri Wolves will return to their home ground next season,” he added.

2027: Udu Civil Society Groups affirm support for Tinubu, Oborevwori, Waive, hail devt strides

A coalition of civil society groups in Udu Local Government Area has reaffirmed its unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and Hon. Revd. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, citing ongoing developmental projects, inclusive governance, and infrastructural progress as clear indicators of responsive leadership across all levels of government.

The declaration was made during a strategic meeting with Hon. Waive, who represents Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. The meeting held on Tuesday, July 30, 2025, at his constituency office.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the coalition acknowledged several developmental milestones recorded by the Oborevwori administration in Udu.

They applauded the governor for appointing Udu sons and daughters into key positions, including commissioner, special adviser, and more than thirty other roles.

They also commended the state government for initiating and executing multiple infrastructural projects in the area, such as the Udu modern market, the Opete–Okpaka Road to the river, Bezi Road in Aladja, CAC Road in Orhuwhorun, and the Orhuwhorun–Usiefrun–Ekrokpe Road. Contracts awarded for the Gbogidi Road and Aladja–Ogbejoh Road were also noted as signs of steady progress.

While acknowledging that not all infrastructure needs can be addressed simultaneously, the groups expressed confidence that the state government would soon commence work on other priority projects. These include the dualization of the Udu Road from the Udu Bridge to ECN, the construction of the Orhuwhorun–Ohwrode–Erhiaphiyor Road, and the much-anticipated Second Udu Bridge linking Enerhen to Opete/Okpaka.

They further expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for approving the construction of an overhead bridge in Ughelli, another part of the federal constituency, describing it as a sign of the administration’s broader commitment to regional development.

Special commendation was also given for the governor’s support in facilitating the take-off of the Federal Medical Centre in Ovwian, a project they attributed to the efforts of Hon. Waive.

Reiterating their commitment to peace and development, the coalition pledged to maintain constructive engagement with the Oborevwori administration through dialogue and cooperation.

They emphasized the need to move away from activism and militancy, which they described as unproductive, especially in today’s political environment. To this end, they resolved to suspend all planned protests to provide a peaceful atmosphere for the governor to deliver on his mandate.

The communique concluded with a strong vote of confidence in Governor Oborevwori’s leadership and expressed support for his re-election in 2027. Similar endorsements were extended to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Hon. Revd. Francis Ejiroghene Waive for their contributions to the development of Udu and the larger federal constituency.

The document was signed by leading members of the coalition, including Goodluck Mukoro, Clement Akaba, Temple Eteyera, Romeo Olakpa, Ogbodu Paul, Abel Mukoro, Tony Konamirho, Steve Njoku, Wilson Obukowho, Augustine Arigbe, Kelly Rume Golohor, Ogben Stanley Destiny, Tevwerhe Emmanuel, Efe Sakpra, Iboyi Pius, Oliver Oro, Abraham Okoh, and Best Meru.

  • Oborevwori prioritizing quality, accountability in infrastructure delivery — Aniagwu

Oborevwori prioritizing quality, accountability in infrastructure delivery — Aniagwu

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering commitment to quality infrastructure, financial transparency, and the empowerment of local contractors.

Speaking during a live interview with ADBN Television, Aniagwu emphasized the administration’s deliberate strategy to match project scope with contractor capacity, particularly when engaging indigenous firms.

“It is a disservice to assign a five-star project to a two-star contractor,” he said. “Just like a child must crawl before they walk and then run, we are gradually building the capacity of local contractors by assigning them smaller projects initially.”

He noted that several indigenous firms have progressed from minor assignments to executing more complex jobs such as short-span bridges and roads extending up to 20–30 kilometers. A notable example, he said, is the Orere Bridge project, which is currently being handled by a local contractor and progressing well.

Aniagwu, however, explained that while some major infrastructure projects are still awarded to experienced expatriate firms due to technical demands, most of the materials and labour used such as cement, sand, bitumen, and iron rods, are sourced locally.

“This ensures that funds circulate within our local economy, creating jobs and supporting small businesses,” he stated.

The commissioner stressed that the Oborevwori administration remains firmly committed to empowering indigenous contractors while maintaining high standards.

“We are making steady progress. Every year, we allocate up to ₦2.1 billion specifically for inter-local government roads, in addition to other major road projects that link various LGAs.”

He also highlighted a recent inspection tour by senior editors and veteran journalists who visited multiple project sites across the state.

According to Aniagwu, the visitors were highly impressed by both the quality of infrastructure and Delta State’s consistency in honouring payment commitments.

“They were amazed that once a project certificate is verified in Delta, Governor Oborevwori pays 100%, no delays, no excuses. I say with confidence, that no other state in Nigeria matches that level of consistency.”

He attributed this financial discipline to the governor’s leadership style, which emphasizes results over media visibility.

“Governor Oborevwori is one of the few governors who hardly travels. In the past two years, he visits Abuja occasionally and mostly when there are issues that are beneficial to Delta state and strictly for important state matters.”

Aniagwu added that the governor’s hands-on leadership, backed by a proactive State Executive Council, has ensured that many of the administration’s achievements speak for themselves, even without elaborate commissioning ceremonies.

“There’s so much going on that we haven’t even publicized. But when you come to Delta, the projects speak for themselves.”

He urged citizens and stakeholders to continue supporting the administration, noting that Governor Oborevwori is laying a foundation for inclusive growth and sustainability.

Aniagwu also commended the governor’s recent midterm address to the State House of Assembly, describing it as a historic moment that signposts transparency and public accountability.

“He is the first governor in Nigeria to formally present a midterm report to the legislature, outlining achievements and projections. It is a rare demonstration of leadership responsibility.”

He highlighted key developmental gains across multiple sectors, including roads, education, housing, and healthcare. He noted that over 150 primary health centers have been revamped, with secondary and tertiary institutions also undergoing upgrades.

“We are procuring advanced medical equipment, MRI machines, CT scanners, and more to elevate healthcare delivery across the state.”

While refraining from naming specific contractors to avoid undue promotion, Aniagwu acknowledged the vital roles played by both local and international firms in the state’s ongoing transformation.

“Their work speaks volumes, and we deeply appreciate the professionalism they bring.”

He concluded by reaffirming the administration’s focus on impactful governance, transparency, and long-term development, saying, “Governor Oborevwori remains committed to leaving a legacy of inclusive growth, good governance, and accountable service delivery.”
