FOOSTODEY Donates N5 Million to Support Oborevwori’s Charity Foundation

In a commendable act of corporate philanthropy, FOOSTODEY, a Non-government organisation, has donated N5 million to the You Matter Charity Foundation, founded by the First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori.

The donation is intended to bolster the foundation’s ongoing initiatives, which include educational scholarships, healthcare outreach, and empowerment programs across Delta State.

The cheque presentation ceremony took place on Thursday in Asaba, where FOOSTODEY’s National President, Mr. Elvis Ahior, lauded the You Matter Charity Foundation for its unwavering dedication to uplifting the lives of the underprivileged.

“Our decision to support the You Matter Charity Foundation is driven by a shared vision to create a better society,” Mr. Ahior said. “At FOOSTODEY, we believe in using our success to uplift others, and we are proud to partner with a foundation that delivers real impact.”

He continued, “Today is yet another memorable day for us at FOOSTODEY. Led by our International Coordinator, Comrade Reuben Izeze, we are here once again to acknowledge the remarkable work Her Excellency is doing through the You Matter Charity Foundation. Guided by the vision of creating a society where everyone feels valued, regardless of background, the foundation adopted the motto: ‘Everybody is Somebody’.”

“The foundation has continued to make significant impacts in communities across Delta State, promoting access to healthcare, advocating for children’s right to education, empowering women, addressing gender-based violence and drug abuse, and conducting various outreach initiatives targeting rural dwellers.”

Mr. Ahior added, “We have come today to join other well-meaning individuals in supporting your laudable efforts with a donation of N5,000,000. We believe this contribution will go a long way in helping the foundation reach even more individuals across the state. We are inspired to make this donation because we firmly believe that everybody is indeed somebody.”

Responding to the donation, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, founder and chairperson of the You Matter Charity Foundation, expressed her heartfelt appreciation.

“The You Matter Charity Foundation continues to thrive because God is with us, and we are making tremendous progress,” she said.

“I thank FOOSTODEY for coming to bless us once again, following their previous donation of a Sienna vehicle to the foundation. We also remember your charitable efforts in support of the mother of the late NANS National President, Comrade Moses Oisakede.”

“I equally commend FOOSTODEY’s plans to build residential homes for selected widows in the state. This generous contribution could not have come at a better time because it will greatly expand our reach and deepen our impact, especially in rural communities where the needs are most acute.

“We appreciate FOOSTODEY’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and for standing with us in our mission to create a more compassionate and inclusive Delta State.”

In an interview with journalists after the ceremony, FOOSTODEY’s International Coordinator and Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, praised the efforts of Mrs. Oborevwori and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting widows through the foundation.

Mimicking the words of the late Ugandan Dictator, Idi Amin Dada, Comrade Izeze said FOOSTODEY was here today to essentially Retaliate the support received in equipping Mama Sarah Oisakede’s Home!!!

“We came to show solidarity for a just cause,” Izeze said. “FOOSTODEY’s mission is rooted in unity and empathy. Regardless of ethnicity or background, we believe that humanity is our tribe. We extend support to the less privileged, widows, indigent students, and employable graduates and people who might otherwise be limited by their circumstances.”

“Our partnership with the *You Matter Charity Foundation* is primarily focused on caring for widows. Most of our contributions are directed specifically toward the foundation’s widows’ outreach programs.”

Izeze revealed plans to build housing for selected widows in various communities, citing a previous example.

“We intend, by God’s grace, to actualize a housing program similar to what we did for the mother of the late NANS President, Comrade Moses Oisakede, who passed away over 25 years ago en route to the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi,” he recounted.

“Despite the passage of time, we honored his sacrifice. When we discovered that his mother, now a widow, was still alive, we appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Her Excellency for support and were able to raise N52 million to build a house for her in Otuo, Edo State.”

“The You Matter Charity Foundation graciously furnished the entire apartment. Now, we are pleased to collaborate with them again to construct two-bedroom ensuite apartments for other deserving widows in selected communities, providing them with safe, comfortable, and dignified housing for the rest of their lives.”

Enhanced internal security improves economic development — Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has emphasized that strengthening internal security mechanisms are pivotal to fostering sustainable economic growth.

Governor Oborevwori made this known while receiving participants of Senior Course 47 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, led by the Director of Coordination, Brigadier General Al-Hassan Grema, during a courtesy visit to Government House, Asaba on Monday.

Governor Oborevwori noted that peace and safety attract investment and promote development across sectors, adding that his administration remains committed to creating a secure and business-friendly environment.

Maintaining that security was not only a social necessity but also an economic driver, he commended Brig. Gen. Grema for his longstanding dedication to national peace and development, particularly recalling his outstanding service as a former Sector Commander in the state.

Speaking on the theme of the participants’ study tour, “Harnessing Grassroots Intelligence for Enhanced Internal Security”, the governor said; “it is highly relevant to Nigeria’s current security discourse.

“If well researched, it will offer practical solutions to emerging security challenges that have negatively impacted our GDP, in addition to the tragic loss of lives”.

Highlighting his administration’s strategic approach, Governor Oborevwori said his administration placed security and social stability at the forefront in line with his MORE Agenda.

He said: “Without prioritizing security, inclusive development would remain a mirage. The state recognizes the importance of intelligence gathering in security management and has established several offices dedicated to coordinating this effort.”

He added that Delta State has maintained strong cooperation with the federal government by providing logistical support to various security agencies including the Police, Army, Navy, and Air Force.

“You served here as a Sector Commander, so you know that we take security very seriously. Since we came into office, there have been no attacks on oil installations thanks to our excellent relationships with host communities, stakeholders, and national leaders,” he stated.

The governor emphasized that the state’s regular security council meetings, involving heads of security agencies, underscore its proactive approach in addressing threats.

He expressed confidence that the visiting officers’ interactions with traditional rulers and field studies would provide useful insights and support the objectives of their research.

“I urge you to take full advantage of this tour. We are also open to your recommendations at the end of your visit,” the governor added.

Earlier, Brig. Gen. Grema said it was an honor to return to Delta State, which he considers home, as part of the College’s environmental study tour.

He noted that Senior Course 47 has dispatched eight teams to different states across the federation to conduct field research.

He said: “The Armed Forces Command and Staff College is a tri-service institution that trains operational-level military officers to the highest professional standards.

“It also develops their understanding to prepare them for higher staff and command roles.”

He revealed that the College includes students from sister African countries, with participants from Tanzania and Mali joining the Delta State tour.

“We also have exchange programs with colleges in Ghana and South Africa and train officers from paramilitary agencies including the Immigration Service, Police, and the State Security Service.”

Brig. Gen. Grema expressed confidence that Delta State was the right location for the tour, praising Governor Oborevwori’s deep-rooted connection to the grassroots.

“If there’s anyone I know to be close to the grassroots, it is His Excellency. The students have come to the right place for first-hand insights into grassroots operations,” he said.

According to him, the 57-member team will gather data on Delta State’s security initiatives, particularly at the grassroots level, as part of their broader objective to address national security concerns.

“If you have worked in Delta State, even if you leave, the state doesn’t leave you,” Grema concluded.

In a decisive move to fast-track infrastructural development and fulfill a promise to riverine communities, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced early 2027 as the definitive completion date for the Ayakoromo Bridge project.

The Governor noted that the critical project had suffered years of uncertainty and delays, but stressed that he was committed to ensuring its completion as scheduled.

He made this declaration during an inspection visit to the site of the Ayakoromo Bridge across the Forcados River, along with the 3km approach road at Egbo-Ide in Ughelli-South and Burutu local government areas.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of the 612-metre long bridge comprising 18 spans with 24 metres between each span to the communities of Egbo-Ide and Ayakoromo.

He added that although the contract was awarded before his administration, he ensured the contractor was remobilized to the site.

“This project is very dear to me and the people. The contractor has set 2027 as the completion date, but we would be pleased if it is finished early 2027,” he said.

“I am confident the contractor will deliver as promised, but I have also directed them to accelerate the pace of work. This bridge is crucial for connecting surrounding villages.

“As you can see, the people are excited even though they were not informed of my visit. This shows how important the bridge is to the two communities and others in the area.”

Earlier, the Governor visited the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges Project in Warri South Local Government Area.

He remarked that the project would enhance connectivity and create economic opportunities for both urban and rural dwellers.

“This project is vital to our people because it connects us with those in rural areas and expands opportunities.

“You saw how happy the people were as we arrived; elders and other villagers came out joyfully. This project is particularly important to the Itsekiri nation, which is why I am determined to see it through to completion.

“I was here in September 2024, and I am back again for inspection. I believe that by early next year, this project will be inaugurated, as it has already been delayed for nearly 19 years.

“We will no longer tolerate delays beyond project timelines. Under our MORE Agenda, we have committed to doing more for Deltans, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Governor Oborevwori announced the construction of two jetties in the area and explained that, due to the rainy season, the construction company is allowing the newly sand-filled areas to settle for road stability.

He, however, urged the firm to accelerate work to ensure the project is completed within his first term in office.

Team Siakpere for Oborevwori celebrates move to APC

In a major political realignment in Delta State, the influential support group Team Siakpere for Oborevwori, has officially announced its defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a desire to align with “progressive ideals” and contribute more robustly to the state’s future.

Led by prominent lawyer, political strategist and international businessman, Barr. John Siakpere, the group was a key mobilization force for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori during his 2023 gubernatorial campaign under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

At a well-attended defection ceremony in Asaba, Siakpere who spoke through Dr Stephen Richards, Senior Special Assistant – Diaspora to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, said that the move to APC was driven by “a commitment to the larger interest of Deltans” and a belief that the ruling party at the federal level now represents the “best vehicle for development, stability, and prosperity” in the state.

“We supported Oborevwori because we believed in his M.O.R.E agenda. However, political realities evolve, and so must we,” Siakpere said.

“We can see what is happening right now and what is going on around. At the moment, what you can actually see in life that is constant, is change and when you refuse to change, change will eventually change you.

“For the government, we can see what Governor Oborevwori is doing. He has been a seasoned politician and he has been on it for a very long time.

“We saw what is going on right now and when you see what he is doing, he is practical, he is talking and doing whatever he says and everybody can testify to what he is doing.

“So at this time, we are projecting into the future and see where we are going and the only way to take us to the destination is nothing but the switch which he has done and we are very happy about it.

“We have now chosen to join hands with the APC to ensure that Delta State remains competitive and that our people enjoy the dividends of democracy.”

Political analysts suggest that Team Siakpere’s move could shift local dynamics ahead of upcoming local government and state assembly elections, as the group commands significant grassroots support across several local governments, especially within Delta Central Senatorial District.

As the 2027 election season begins to take shape, observers say that Team Siakpere’s realignment may be just the first of several high-profile moves that could reshape the political landscape of Delta State.
