Adeleke’s $20m fraud allegation against Oyetola mere shadow chasing – APC Chieftain

A frontline politician, Chief Abiola Ogundokun, has described Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun’s $20 million fraud allegation against his immediate predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, as mere shadow chasing.

Ogundokun stated this in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, while reacting to a petition by Adeleke to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Oyetola.

Adeleke had, in the petition, alleged that Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, misappropriated a $20 million World Bank health grant while he was governor of the state.

Ogundokun said in the state that there was nothing serious in the petition other than a drama aimed at generating negative energy toward the 2026 governorship election in the state.

He described Oyetola as a man of sterling performance in the private sector as well as due diligence and strict adherence to rules in the public service as governor.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain also described the former governor as the pride of Osun and Nigeria who should not be pulled down or given uncharitable names but encouraged to do more for the state.

According to him, there is the need to stop a destructive campaign of “I will destroy you if I can’t get it.

“Oyetola is honest to a fault,” he remarked, calling on the people of the state to join him in moving Osun forward.

Ogundokun advised Adeleke to prioritise good governance rather than engaging in frivolous activities.

“What Osun requires and deserves is focused leadership and serious engagements.

“I will advise Ademola Adeleke to stop playing politics with the exalted office of the governor by turning it to a petition writing apparatus.

“He should use the enormous power of the office to improve the lots of the people instead of deploying the state resources to bully and witch-hunt a perceived enemy or enemies.

“Writing a petition against a man like Oyetola, to me, is like chasing a shadow.

“The task before Adeleke is huge, and meeting the expectations of the people should be his priority and not fighting an imaginary political foe,” he said.

The elder statesman urged the governor not to deviate from the vision of the state’s forefathers.

Rather, he said that Adeleke should learn to build on the good foundation of his predecessor instead of finding ways to shoot down his good legacies.

CHIVIDO 2024: Governor Adeleke slammed for attending Davido’s wedding

Controversial Nollywood actor, Uche Maduagwu, has knocked Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, for “abandoning” his duties to attend his nephew, singer Davido’s wedding in Lagos today.

Governor Adeleke, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, were among the dignitaries at Davido and Chioma’s lavish wedding on Tuesday.

However, in his instagram video post on Tuesday, Maduagwu particularly berated Governor Adeleke for attending a wedding on a workday.

He said, “On a Tuesday morning, Osun State Governor is leaving his State to attend a wedding [in Lagos]. We are not ready in this country. Honestly, we are not serious in this country.

“Can you see the MD of Access Bank or Zenith Bank leave their office on a Tuesday morning to attend a wedding? I’ve never done this in my life. On a Tuesday morning, the Chief Executive Officer of Osun, which is one of the poorest states in the South West, is leaving his office to attend a wedding. We are not ready in this country.

“This is a disgrace. A disrespect to the people of Osun State. If any permanent secretary in your state leaves his office to attend a wedding on a workday, would you be happy? And as a leader, you cannot even lead by example. You are attending a wedding in Lagos on a Tuesday afternoon. Will you ever see the Governor of New York or the Governor of Texas on a Tuesday morning going to attend a wedding?

Osun governor, Adeleke appeals to FG to sign Sign Peace Corps Act into law

The Osun state Governor, Ademola Adeleke  has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Act without delay.

Governor Adeleke spoke during the passing out parade of the officers of the corps on Saturday in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, added that the act becoming law would ensure peace and unity in the country.

According to him, the signing of the act into law would go a long way toward providing employment for a large number of unemployed youths, the governor said.

“I call on the Nigerian Peace Corps to unite in forming a common front towards achieving the mandate upon which it is being established.

“The new officer cadets should show discipline and focus when discharging their various duties anywhere they might be posted to.”

The Commandant General of the Nigerian Peace Corps, Dr Mustapha Abubakar, thanked President Buhari for agreeing to give assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Act.

“I charge the new cadets to make time for personal development, which would go a long way in adding value to their services in the NPC,” he said.

The Ooni of Ife had earlier donated land to the corps for its training school in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Osun State governorship election Tribunal chairman in his judgement mocked Governor Adeleke’s dancing skills as he used Kizz Daniel’s lyrics in the song titled Buga to deliver his final analysis.

The Chairman of the Election Petition Tribunal, Terste Kume, on Friday, during his judgement mocked Governor Adeleke for dancing to Kiss Daniel’s “Buga” song the day he was declared winner of the election last year.

According to Kume,  The declaration and return is hereby declared null and void. The 2nd respondent cannot go ”lo lo lo and ‘buga won” as the duly elected Governor of Osun State in the election conducted on the 16th day of July, 2022. See Kizz Daniel’s song, Buga. Rather, we hereby hold that the 1st petitioner scored a majority of lawful votes in the said election and is hereby returned as such.

Delivering judgement, two out of the tribunal’s three-member panel held that the petitioner was able to prove that there was indeed overvoting in some of the polling units.

Consequently, the majority judgment of the tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to withdraw the certificate of return from Adeleke and issue a fresh one to Oyetola as the duly elected governor of the state.

The judge said Adeleke was dancing to Kiss Daniel’s “Buga” song after he was declared winner of the governorship election in July 2022, maintaining that the election was not held in compliance with the electoral act.

”After deducting the unlawful votes, Mr Oyetola’s tally came down to 314, 931 votes while Mr Adeleke scored 290,666. The declaration and return are hereby declared null and void,” the chairman had ruled.

Reacting to this in Osogbo on Saturday while addressing the newsmen, the party leadership led by the State Caretaker Chairman, Dr Adekunle Akindele, said the judge abandoned legal arguments and submissions to dwell on the trivial as the foundation for his pronouncement.

Adeleke, Oyetola bicker over Osun state debt profile, IGR

The Osun State Government has released a statement denying that the immediate past governor of the state cleared all debts, and backlog of salaries, but said that they left a debt portfolio of N76bn in unpaid salaries, pensions, and insurance commitments for the present administrators.

This statement was signed and released by Governor Adeleke’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed in Osogbo on Thursday and said the figure was given by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs Bimpe Ogunlumade, while briefing officials of the new administration on the financial status of the state.

The statement read in part, “The breakdown of the salaries and pension-related liabilities as disclosed by the permanent secretary are as follows: Salary: N29,875,191,128.64; Pension Arrears: N45,375,237,693.40; and Group Life Assurance Scheme: N554,644,028.97; giving a total of N75,805,072,851.01.”

It further said the disclosure was contrary to the claim by the ex-governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, that he left a sum of N14bn in cash for the new government.

The government also added that the figure already released is not the total debt incurred by the past government as they are still working on other areas where they also became indebted.

Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the submission of a salary schedule to the relevant office within the next 24 hours.

A statement by his spokesperson, Rasheed, stated that Adeleke issued the directive after taking a briefing from the state Ministry of Finance.

“Top officials of the ministry had attributed the delay in salary payment to the failure of some agencies to submit their salary schedules on time.

“Governor Adeleke consequently directed the immediate conclusion of the processes, affirming that his administration is averse to the inconveniences the delay has forced on the state work force,” the statement added.

However, while reacting, Ismail Omipidan, the media aide to the former governor said the administration did not owe salaries.

Omipidan said, “For the umpteenth time, let me place it on record that for four years, we did not owe a dime in salary payments, while we made conscious efforts to reduce the backlog of pensions and gratuities we inherited.

“This also explains why there hasn’t been a strike in four years. According to their calculations, we owed salaries for nearly a year. Is that possible? The labour union can also attest that we never left any salary unpaid during our tenure, and we did not take out any bank loans for four years.”
