    “I have learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou.

    The great American poet, Maya Angelou who died some years ago foretold what I would be thinking in my head as I sat down to listen to my ecstatic Aunt’s travel experience through the just commissioned Koka Flyover and Interchange along the Asaba/Onitsha expressway.

    Mama Aloma as we fondly call her, regaled me with what she saw to and from Onitsha, where she has been selling her goods for 20 years and counting.

    My Aunt who was all over the place with her funny old school dance steps suddenly became teary when she remembered an episode of how she lost her bag of money in one of those Onitsha trips.

    “I am so happy that we have been allowed to use that bridge (Koka Flyover) that I have been talking about. Remember I told you how I lost my bag in the trafic one fateful evening. When the government started the construction of the bridge, I thought it was a political project that will never be completed,” She said. “You know those abandoned projects politicians start and never complete.

    “I never thought that traffic flow could be so seamless to the extent that you could go and come back from Onitsha as many times as you want without rotting away in the traffic like we used to. It means that he knows what we go through as ordinary citizens. Governor Okowa, thank you o!”

    Like Mama Aloma, there are thousands, even millions of Deltans whose lives have been and are being impacted daily by the developmental strides recorded in Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration.

    This landmark Project commissioned for use by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar in Asaba last Wednesday is an 8-span Flyover with dual carriageways, two ramps, and retaining walls, as well as other ancillary structures such as solar-powered street light for optimal function of the public facility.

    The visibly elated Atiku who is on a joint ticket with Governor Okowa on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party for the February 25 presidential election, commended his running mate for the huge project which he said would benefit all residents of the state.

    “Congratulations Governor Okowa for this huge development that you have undertaken to the benefit of the people of Delta State and Nigerians in general who ply this road daily.”

    The presidential candidate, on the same day also inaugurated other monumental projects conceived and executed by the Okowa led administration such as the Model Technical College, Asaba; Maryam Babangida Leisure Park, Asaba and Mother and Child Specialist Hospital and Advanced Diagnostics Centre, Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area of the State.

    He further commended Okowa for his hardwork, visionary and purposeful leadership, and congratulated the people of the State for having such a great leader.

    On his part, Dr. Okowa who reiterated his administration’s commitment to alleviating the sufferings of Deltans irrespective of tribe or political affiliation, said that the Koka Flyover and Interchange was his solution to the traffic gridlock along the Benin-Asaba highway.

    True to type, Governor Okowa is living up to his name; Ekwueme. He is not only equipping youths with technical skills to make them employers of labour, the Servant-Governor is also building healthcare facilities to cater for the health of all residents of the State.

    These efforts by Senator Okowa can only be borne out of genuine concern for his people whom he had sworn to serve at any cost.

    Come February 25, this workaholic Governor will be on the presidential ballot with an experienced politician and accomplished businessman on the ticket of the PDP. It is instructive to choose this team of men with verifiable records of accomplishments to take Nigeria to greater heights.

    Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday urged Nigerians not to allow the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government that led the country back to dark days.

    He said that the prevailing level of decay in the socio-economic life in the country had never been recorded in its history, and blamed it on the gaping ineptitude of the ruling APC.

    Okowa stated this at PDP’s Presidential Campaign at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos declaring that by its abysmal performance, which was common knowledge to Nigerians, APC had returned the country to “dark days”.

    Deputy Governor of Delta State, Kingsley Otuaro has said if within the context of the law as a Deltan and a Nigerian he would aspire to be Governor of Delta State but for now he has nothing to say.
    TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports the deputy Governor while reacting to a question on the dissolution of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s cabinet and his ambition of running for governorship position in 2023 on a monitored TV program.
    Hear him:
    “First it is within the powers of the governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to dissolve his cabinet and reappoint those he feels very strongly that can help us and deliver on our stronger Delta agenda because that truly is our agenda; to enthrone a stronger and more secured Delta state for our tomorrow.
    ” So that is in the exercise of his power and there is no problems about that and we are happy with this and I think the people are also happy with it.
    “As to the other question of if I am contesting or indicating interest in zoning and all of that, I don’t want to get myelf into all of that. The point is I am a Deltan, I am a Nigerian like any other person and so we all have the right to aspire to elective positions and all of that.
    “So I wouldn’t say anything, if I have the right to aspire within the context of the law then I can aspire. But it is not in my case to tell you if I want to.
    ‘And the other issue of zoning, I am not saying, the zoning of governorship seat to south, north and central senatorial districts, all those are matters of politics, matters for the system to look critically into and take a decision on it.
    I”I recall the governor did say in one of his interactive session with journalists and I think this question was posed on him and what he said was that it is God Almighty that enthrones leaders as far as he is concerned.
    “And beyond that, the leadership of the state, of the PDP especially will look into what is fair and what is just for our people. We will look into the records as they were, we are going to engage ourselves and of course come out with what is tenable, what is fair, what is just and that is of course what our people want and that is what I believe in.
    “And we hope very strongly that at the end of the day like I have said before now, we are an indivisible people and so we will remain strong.
    “So all of these are matters of politics and we are getting close into it and I know that in no distant time, we are going to resolve all of those rough edges and move ahead as people that we have over time been.

    Analysis: Matters arising in Governor Okowa’s road projects delivery in Delta

    Road infrastructure plays a very important role in the development of any state or country and is oftentimes used as index to assess it’s growth or development by experts.

    The importance of quality road networking cannot be overemphasized because it does not only reduce the cost of transportation both in terms of money and time, but also help in the integration of regions within the state or country.

    The Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led Delta State Government no doubt since inception in 2015 has raised the bar in the aspect of road infrastructure, connecting rural communities to urban areas in the state and these painstaking efforts are widely applauded by all and sundry.

    #Okowa_The_Road_Master, the coined name I gave him in one of my articles which went viral in his first tenure, became his nickname till date because of the tremendous feat in the area of road networking across the state.

    However, the disadvantages of substandard road infrastructure negates the importance of it in all ramifications in any given state or country.

    Governor Okowa’s government is spending crores in billions of naira for the development of infrastructure and construction of roads across the 25 Local Government Areas in the state.

    However, despite the huge investments, people are still facing difficulties in themselves, their goods and services due to the negligence of some government officials saddled with the responsibility of projects monitoring and inspection to reciprocating the reasonable gesture of the government in fulfilling the promise made to his people during the electioneering campaigns.

    Like darkness under the lamp, in the very backyard of the state’s administration where there are no dearth of engineers in the construction company, shoddy construction of roads seems to be a tight slap on the government whose interest is the delivery of good governance as promised to its citizenry.

    The ongoing road construction/expansion in Jeddo, Ugbokodo and Ughoton has surprisingly started giving way much to the dismay of road users and the general public few days ago during the heavy downpour which left people stranded in pitiful state.

    Residents/motorists alleged that substandard and low-quality materials are been used in the ongoing road construction and as a result of that, the road gave way during the downpour even before the completion of the project; what would have happened if the road is completed and cars, trucks, bikes etc are moving on this road before it suddenly gave way?

    Disasters it would, lives and properties would have gone because of the shoddy snail paced works done by the construction company; at end, the bulk of the blame goes to the governor, because those he’d saddled with the responsibility of the project failed woefully in the discharge of their duty.

    Like every governor,president or individuals who wants their names written on the sands of time, goes the extra miles to making sure their efforts are not being truncated by any obstacle in order for them to achieve the intended goals they pursue, this is the aim of Governor Okowa.

    Deltans crave for a stronger Delta, therefore, all hands must be deck to achieve this.

    Igbo community in Delta State backs Governor Okowa on open grazing

    Igbo residents in Delta State have expressed their support for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over the ban on open grazing across the state.

    Mr Peter Chukwu, the Ezendigbo in Delta Central and Southern Districts, gave the support while addressing newsmen on Monday in Warri after leading a delegation of the Igbo community to the Palace of Olu of Warri on a condolence visit to the Itsekiris over the transition of the immediate past Olu, Ogiame Ikenwoli.

    The Igbo leader urged herdsmen threatening anarchy in Delta following the ban, to embrace peace.

    He said that the Southern governors’ position on the ban on open grazing is constitutional.

    “Whoever feels agitated should approach the court of law to seek redress rather than engaging in self help or anarchy.

    “These times call for open reflection, peace and dialogue rather than beating war drums. We will never forget where we are coming from,” he said.

    Chukwu described late Ikenwoli as a peace-loving and cool-headed royal father who fostered good relationship with the various ethnic groups in the state, including the Igbos.

    He appealed to the Olu-designate, Omoba Tsola Emiko, to emulate Ikenwoli to sustain his good legacies.

    The funeral rites of the late Ikenwoli will begin with a commendation service on June 18 in Warri, while the installation of the 21st Olu of Warri is slated for Aug. 21.

    GOVERNOR OKOWA: DARE HE?, By Ena Ofugara

    Will Okowa dare attempt to hand over power to any other tribe but the Urhobos? DARE HE?

    Is there an accord and or understanding of where the next governor after Okowa is to come from? This essay will attempt to show an understanding that has kept Delta state peaceful.
    Delta state is a microcosm of Nigeria, with its myriad of blessings and problems from its diversity. Peace balances on a scale.

    Hate James Ibori all you want, it is he who brought peace to Delta state with his unconventional approach. When Ibori was elected, Delta State, Warri to be precise, was embroiled in a war between the Itsekiris and Ijaws. Then governor James Ibori started settling all parties, making judicious use of SECURITY FUNDS. When Itsekiri youths burnt Idama hotel belonging to the Urhobo Okumagbas, Ibori ensured he paid for the repairs of hotel, thereby stopping the Urhobos of Warri from joining in the war. Ibori was to go on to “settle” each warlord, ensuring the moneys trickled down to the foot-soldiers.

    The same approach was used in Koko when there was a “war” between factions of Itsekiris for chairmanship of the local government. An accord was reached for a chairman to serve just one term and for it to go to the other faction. There has been peace since.

    Even before Ibori, Delta state had found a way to peace through “turn by turn” accord. Under the old Bendel state, the Itsekiri monarch was the number 2 traditional ruler. Under same Bendel state, the Oba of Benin was perennial head of the traditional council. When Delta state was created, the traditional kings began taking turns to head the traditional council with the Orodje of Okpe being the first to take his turn and it rotated to the Olu and other Kings. There has been peace and understanding since.

    When the then upstart, James Ibori was to run for Governor, one of his winning pitches was that power would rotate from one senatorial zone to the other, every eight years. Delta Central was to start with Ibori, then Delta North with Okowa and Delta South allegedly with James Manager. James Ibori would switch this arrangement and hand power to Delta South, passing over Okowa and Delta North, with the understanding that Delta North and Okowa would follow Uduaghan of Delta South. Ibori’s switch was understood as needing his uncle Uduaghan to be the one to hold the forte as he faced his legal battles. He needed someone that would not turn on him. With Uduaghan being from Delta South, power was still rotating, but not in the allegedly agreed manner.

    Both Okowa and James Manager were rewarded with Senatorial positions as they bade their time.

    Uduaghan was to later betray Okowa and attempt to hand power, YES, to Delta North, but not to Okowa. His anointed candidate was another Delta Igbo/Anioma man in the person of Ogbu.

    Okowa saw this coming and began his own moves and sought and got the support of a hitherto Uduaghan loyalist in Michael Diden as well as support of Tompolo, the River god of Niger Delta.

    But Okowa was still going to fall short. Uduaghan, knowing the sheer population of the Urhobos, and being close to Urhobos as a speaker of the tribe and one who grew up with them, he picked David Edevbie, a man close to James Ibori, playing the chess game that Ibori, who was then incarcerated in the UK would not turn on his own protege, David Edevbie.

    Ibori was to make a call to his fixer, Amori on the day of the PDP primaries and Amori along with other Ibori loyalists, gave votes they had pledged to David Edevbie, back to Okowa, ON THE BASIS OF THE IBORI ACCORD, where power must go round the senatorial zones before coming back to Urhobos.

    And so Okowa became governor, and in gratitude to Tompolo, picked his deputy from Tompolo’s family…. an Ijaw.

    JAMES MANAGER, KINGSLEY BURUTU OTUARO AND THE IJAW ARGUMENT

    The Ijaws and James manager argue, and with some merit, that they are the only major tribe of Delta state yet to be governor.

    They point to Urhobos and Igbos and Itsekiris having ruled. They claim it is their turn. Rumor mill (I cannot confirm this) claim that James Manager will be picking the powerful Evelyn Oboro from the Urhobo tribe (Hon Evelyn is close to James Ibori) as his deputy and that many see this ticket as only fair.

    OKOWA’S VIEWPOINT

    Many believe Okowa is ready to give this ticket to the Ijaws. Many see moves made by Okowa, including his inexplicable leaving out of Urhobo areas when he created new Administrative districts, as ways to emasculate the Urhobos and their built-in advantage of superior population. Okowa believes David Edevbie of the Urhobos ran against him in clear disregard for the IBORI ACCORD.

    Thus, he feels he can hand the governorship to any tribe he deems fit. DARE HE? He has said there is no agreement. Amori’s caucus meeting with prospects including former Senator and businessman Emmanuel Aguariavwode, and other aspirants ans would-be aspirants from Delta Central shows they take Okowa’s moves to perhaps hand the baton to another tribe seriously. But DARE HE?

    WHAT THEN IS FAIR?

    Should the Ijaws wait their turn after the Urhobos have ruled twice? Is that fair? Should Urhobos who make up over a third of the population wait till every smaller tribe, including the Illajes rule before it becomes their turn? Are the Ikweres of Rivers state allowing others rule, how much more wait turns till forever?
    Should governorship and power even be based on tribe?

    WILL IBORI ALLOW HIS ACCORD TO BE BROKEN?

    Ex governors can be nullified. Go and ask Peter Obi and Orji Uzor Kalu and Kwankwaso. Ex Governor’s can rule forever. Go and ask Tinubu of Lagos state. Which of these is Okowa? Is Okowa a Fashola, an Ambode or is he a Willie Obiano? The rumor mill is rife with reports of some rift between Okowa and Ibori. And those who point to pictures and visits between Okowa and Ibori as proof of all being well, they must note that till date, Okowa and Uduaghan smile and hug, while Okowa has seen Uduaghan fail to get the PDP senate ticket and ran him off PDP with only James Ibori’s return clearing a pathway for Uduaghan’s return to PDP. Smiling and pictures among the old friends and politicians does not mean solidarity or existence of consensus. THEY SAY OKOWA WANTS IBORI AND HIS LOYALISTS’ PHALANGES REMOVED FROM THE WHEELS OF POWER AND FINANCE OF DELTA STATE. How true this is, time will tell.

    OVIE OMO-AGEGE AND APC WAIT WITH ARMS WIDE OPEN

    Senator and Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, looks on with a smirk in his lips and gleam in his eyes. His popularity cannot be questioned. He defeated PDP in the very land that has James Ibori and Amori. Beating James Ibori’s Evelyn is not an easy task to do, yet he, Ovie Omo-Agege, did it. While APC seem to be solving their huge divide with Otega Emerhor and Omo Agege coming to some clear and seemingly sincere understanding, and with Ogboru doing his usual disappearing act, only to emerge again like Willie-willie during election season, Ovie Omo-Agege may have fully grabbed the reins of the APC.

    And when you add Omo-Agege’s popularity in Delta state, as well as outreach to former PDP loyalists, to the fact he has “Federal might”, then add the disenchantment that will follow Okowa’s decision… should he DARE make the decision to forego the IBORI ACCORD and hand power to another tribe, and not the most populous one of the Urhobos, and should Omo-Agege decide to run for governor…. hmmmm!!!

    FOR THE REST OF DELTANS: The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea
    many like yours truly struggle between dislike for the APC at the Federal level and total disenchantment with PDP at the state level.

    22 plus years of PDP and what can they really show as achievement in Delta state? Is it Songhai farm of Ibori? something something zone in Koko of Uduaghan or what do we remember Okowa for?

    And then you look at the feckless leadership from the center that is every bit pro-North in the worst way as same North is underdeveloped and unsafe.

    It is this dilemma that faces the average Deltan. Should PDP that has mismanaged 22 years of its rule be kicked out? And for who? The APC?

    These are the questions that will be answered come 2023. While APC will show Amechi and Wike’s developmental strides compared to Delta, PDP will show how APC took over from PDP that everyone felt mismanaged Nigeria and made it demonstrably worse. The arguments will be heated.

    At the end, TRIBE and love for candidates may hold sway
    And again, if Okowa DARES hand the baton to …. IF HE DARES ignore the most populous tribe in a democracy, where it is the turn of the most populous tribe…
    And should Omo-Agege run…

    As my parents would say, you do not stop a child from having big teeth, as long as he has the big lips to cover the teeth. Okowa should DARE IT. He is a strategist we know. But…. In fact, this should the morning and night prayer of Chief Ovie Omo-Agege.

    That Okowa should DARE IT.

    Delta will emerge largest producer of oil by 2018 – Gov Okowa

    Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has said with the current peace enjoyed in the state, it is possible that the state emerge largest oil producing state in the country by 2018.

    According to Daily Post, Okowa made the prediction at the palace of the Okobaro of Ughieveen Kingdom, HRM. Matthew Ediri Egbi JP Owhawha shortly after he commissioned 10.8 Kilometres rehabilitated/resealed Okpare-Umolo-Ovwodokpokpor, Kiagbodo roads in addition to the inspection of Ewu and Okpe-Olomu roads.

    Governor Okowa noted that the State Government could not meet up to the expectations of its people because of the little derivation accruing to the state in addition to youth restiveness and militancy.

    The governor appealed to youths in Ughelli South Local Government Area to continue to maintain the existing peace as well as secure Government facilities within their areas.

    In Okowa’s words: “Delta State as fourth producer of oil is not Delta of our dream. We were first oil producer and later second before we went to fourth position. We cannot meet up the expectations of our people. Let us maintain the peace so that we can rapidly go back to second position and if we maintain the peace, by 2018 we will get back to first position.”

    Governor Okowa also commended the traditional institutions for their partnership in ensuring a peaceful Ughelli South Local Government Area.

    The Ughievwen monarch, HRM, Matthew Edirin Egbi JP appealed to the governor to resolve the “power cut” in their area, stressing,” We contribute a lot to power from our place here.

    Commissioning the road earlier, Governor Okowa thanked God for the enablement to complete the project.

    Earlier in his remarks, Delta State Commissioner for Works, Mr. James Augoye stated that the project was awarded on 6th January,2016 to Setraco Construction Company while the Okpe-Olomu road was awarded to Obakpor Engineering Company on 24th March 2016.

    Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, Evang. Paul Etaga hailed the governor for the rehabilitation of the road, pointing out that its benefits is enormous to the people of Ughelli South Local Government Area.

    Gov Okowa allays fear of Deltans on Grazing Bill

    As the nation continue to grapple with ways to proffer solution to the menace of Fulani herdsmen, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has allayed the fear of Deltans that there will be grazing reserve in the state.

    Speaking at the weekend at the 2nd session of the seventh synod of Ughelli Diocese of the Anglican Communion held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ekete, Udu local government area of Delta State, Governor Okowa asserted, “we are not supporting any grazing reserve”.

    The Governor stated that legislators cannot pass a bill that is unacceptable to the people, disclosing that Deltans have made it clear that they were not in support of grazing reserve.

    While disclosing that his administration has done a lot to ensure that clashes between herdsmen and Deltans are reduced to the barest minimum, he observed, “possibly, there would have been much more killings if not for our consultations; we are also aware that most of the kidnapping in the state are being done by the Hausa/Fulanis in connivance with some of our people”.

    “There are special courts for the speedy trial of kidnappers and anyone who is caught assisting them is liable to life imprisonment,” he continued while commending security agencies, especially, the Police for controlling crime in the state.

    Governor Okowa also urged the Church to relentlessly pray for the state and the nation, assuring that revenue to the state would increase within the next couple of months as Shell was working to fix the Forcados Trunkline which will boost oil export from the state.

    The Governor stated that increase in revenue generated will lead to the construction of more roads and the provision of infrastructure in different parts of the state.

    Earlier in a sermon, Bishop Marcus Ibrahim of Yola Diocese of the Anglican Communion, commended Governor Okowa for the effective management of resources in the state despite the recession affecting economic activities in the country.

    The Bishop who spoke on the theme: “Watching and praying: the escape route from the dangers of our time,” decried greed in the church and also, urged Christians to pray harder to check the activities of Boko Haram, kidnappers and armed robbers, reiterating: “the time that we are in, is evil time”.

    Troubled by incessant attacks by Fulani Herdsmen, Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has urged the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, introduce policies to curb the menace.

    The Governor made the call during the 25th coronation anniversary of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, HRM Wilson Oharisi III at the weekend.

    While noting that the menace of Fulani herdsmen was not restricted to Delta State, the Governor said, “Fulani herdsmen menace is a national challenge, it has become something that is affecting all the states in the federation”.

    “The Federal Government should have a policy direction for us to live in peace with the Fulani herdsmen,” he said, asserting, “I do hope that there will be policy direction to reduce the clashes”.

    Governor Okowa at the occasion, commended traditional rulers in the state for ensuring peace in their kingdoms..

    “If all the Kingdoms are peaceful, the state will be peaceful and I want to state that I am proud of our traditional rulers because, they are working in one accord,” he said.

    The ceremony which was well attended by people of all walks of life took place at Ughelli, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State.
