Oyetola hails Dantsoho’s election as IAPH Vice President

The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), on his election as Vice President of the International Association for Ports and Harbours (IAPH).

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Dr Bolaji Akinola, Minister Oyetola described the election as a testament to Dr Dantsoho’s outstanding leadership and a global recognition of Nigeria’s growing influence in maritime affairs.

The Minister noted that the development is a direct reflection of the significant strides made under the Federal Government’s port modernisation programme.

“This election is a recognition of the ongoing reforms to reposition Nigerian ports and the blue economy drive of the Federal Government,” Minister Oyetola stated. “It validates our commitment to creating a more efficient, secure, and competitive maritime environment, which is a key component of our national economic strategy.”

The Minister highlighted that the government’s ongoing port modernisation initiative is a comprehensive programme designed to overhaul port infrastructure, embrace cutting-edge technology, and streamline operational processes. The goal is to elevate Nigerian ports to international standards and position the country as a leading maritime hub in Africa.

The International Association for Ports and Harbours (IAPH) is a respected global organisation that serves as a consultative body to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other UN agencies. It unites over 300 ports and port-related businesses from 90 countries, playing a crucial role in shaping international port policy, promoting sustainable development, and fostering collaboration on pressing industry challenges.

The Honourable Minister emphasised that Dantsoho’s role within such an influential body will be instrumental in advancing Nigeria’s interests on the global stage.

Minister Oyetola expressed confidence that Dr Dantsoho’s wealth of experience will enable him to make impactful contributions to the IAPH and, in doing so, further elevate Nigeria’s voice in global maritime policy debates and foster deeper international collaboration.

Davido and Chioma take photos as Uncle, Adeleke is sworn-in as Osun Gov

Adedeji Adeleke, the father of Nigerian musician, Davido, has expressed his affection for his son’s wife, Chioma, after pausing a family photo to ask about her during the inauguration ceremony of Osun’s 6th executive governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

A video making rounds, showed the beautiful chef posing for a family photo with her husband, Davido and his father.

Chioma was at the inauguration ceremony of Davido’s Uncle, Ademola Adeleke, as the 6th executive governor of Osun state which held today November 27.

This will be her and Davido’s first public appearance after the unfortunate loss of their son, Ifeanyi.

Davido’s father is a Nigerian billionaire, business magnate and president of Adeleke University. He is also the CEO of Pacific Holdings Limited.

He is the father of Davido and Sharon Adeleke. He was married to Dr Vero Adeleke who died on 6 March 2003. His younger brother, Ademola Adeleke, is the governor of Osun State.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Senator Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was sworn-in, yesterday, as governor and he immediately hit the ground with tough decisions.

Immediately, he directed that a panel of inquiry be set up to probe last minutes appointments and placements ordered by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola. He also ordered reversal of the state nomenclature from State of Osun to Osun State and froze all state accounts with immediate effect.

Senator Adeleke officially took over as Governor of Osun State after taking his oath of office at 11.45 a.m..

The oath of office was administered on the Governor by the State Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele-Ojo.

The Governor arrived at the Osogbo Stadium venue around 11:20am after which his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, mounted the podium to take his oath before Adeleke took his turn.

Upon entering the venue, followed by his nephew (Davido) Governor Adeleke moved round the stadium to acknowledge cheers from the jubilant crowd in the main bowl

    Gov Adeleke’s first directives

The Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola administration in 2011 changed the state’s name to State of Osun and changed its slogan from State of the Living Spring to State of the Virtue.

However, Adeleke in his inaugural speech after he was sworn-in, as the sixth executive governor of the state, said all injustice perpetrated by his predecessor will be corrected.

His words: “I, hereby, issue the following directives which will be backed up with appropriate Executive orders:

“Immediate freezing of all government accounts in banks and other financial institutions; an immediate reversal to the constitutionally recognized name of our state, Osun State. All government insignia, correspondences and signages should henceforth reflect Osun State rather than State of Osun, which is unknown to the Nigerian constitution.

    To review Oyetola’s appointments

Also, the Governor ordered the establishment of panel of inquiry to study and review appointments and placements of his predecessor from July 17, 2022 till date.

“My Good People of Osun, since you elected me as your Governor on the 16th of July 2022, which the INEC announced on July 17th 2022, the former Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola maliciously started putting road blocks to make things difficult and almost impossible for the new administration to serve you.

“Mass employments were carried out without budgetary provisions for salary payments for the new employees; even when the state was struggling to pay salaries and deliver other services. Various hurried and criminally backdated contracts were awarded and again without budgetary provisions.

“Appointments of several Obas were hurriedly done without following due process, just to mention a few.

“All efforts to get the Governor set up a Transition Committee and submit hand-over notes in line with best practices proved abortive.

“It is, therefore, my desire to ask for your patience and understanding to give my administration a few weeks to review and sort out all the actions and malicious confusions which the immediate past administration has created since July 17, 2022. Those actions were indeed vindictive measures against the people of Osun State for voting them out of office.

“Immediate establishment of a panel to carry out an inventory and recover all government assets; An immediate establishment of a panel to review all appointments and major decisions of the immediate past administration taken after the 17th July, 2022.”

    LG reforms

Governor Adeleke pledged that his administration will guarantee local government autonomy in line with Nigeria’s Constitution with a view to making the third tier of government more responsible to the people at the grassroots.

“In line with our campaign manifesto, our government will ensure local government autonomy in line with the provisions of the Nigeria constitution.

“We will restore the lost glory of our local governments in order to make them more responsive to the needs of the people at the grassroots. All policies that are not favourable to the growth of effective local government administration will be reviewed in accordance with the law.

“No form of illegality will be allowed to stand and all acts of impunity committed by the immediate past administration on local government administration will be reversed following due process”, said Adeleke.

I left N14bn in state coffers — Oyetola

Meanwhile, former Governor Oyetola, yesterday, disclosed that his administration left N14billion cash in the state’s coffers for the incoming government.

Oyetola also revealed that his government had successfully paid N97billion from the total debt inherited in 2018 when he assumed office.

He disclosed that his administration didn’t borrow a kobo anywhere in the world to finance the economy of the state, saying he successfully kept faith and maintained fidelity with his electoral promises since his assumption of office.

His words: “For four years, we did not take any bank loan facility. But we benefitted from the N3billion monthly intervention from the Federal Government to all the states for six months to cushion the effect of deductions of budget support facility and salary bailout accessed by the previous administration, just as we have paid N97 billion from the total debt we inherited in 2018.

“We are leaving behind cash of over N14 billion. In addition to the N14 billion cash, another N8 billion is being expected between December and January from our performance in SFTAS and the IGR. Also, another Seventy-Two million Dollars will come to the State soon from RAMP 3, NG-CARES, Nigeria for Women Project and Ease of Doing Business. These are earned based on performance.”

Atiku, Okowa, Obaseki, Udom, Tambuwal, Ooni, Ataoja Timi, others at swearing-in

Many dignitaries including politicians and traditional rulers stormed Osogbo to witness Adeleke’s inauguration.

The political class was led by the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu; the party’s Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; his wife, Titi; and PDP’s Vice Presidential Candidate, and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State.

Also present were PDP Governors Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Senator Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), and Udom Emmanuel (Akwa-Ibom).

Others are former Governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun), Rasheed Ladoja (Oyo), Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki; and Tony Elumelu among others.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi led traditional rulers, including the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji; Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal; Orangun Ila, Oba Wahab Adedotun; and Orangun Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin among many others to the colourful ceremony.

However, the G5 PDP Governors were absent at the event. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, the Only PDP Governor in the South-West did not come along with his colleagues, Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).

  • Osun Tribunal: Governor Oyetola presents documentary evidence

Osun Tribunal: Governor Oyetola presents documentary evidence

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo the Osun state capital has received documentary evidence from the counsels of Governor Oyetola in the suit challenging the victory of Adedamola Adeleke as Governor elect of the state.

Among the documents admitted in evidence by the tribunal were the INEC Regulation and Guideline for the election, INEC Manual for Electoral Officials, forms EC8As which are election results for Osogbo, Ede North and Ede South local governments, among others.

Meanwhile, the Counsel for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Paul Ananaba, declined consent to documents issued as Certified True Copies (CTC) by the Commission.

Also counsel for the Osun Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, Chief Lateef Fagbemi, informed the tribunal that the documentary evidence sought to be tendered had been cross-checked by the respondents and they all agreed that it should be tendered from the bar.

He then sought to tender the documents as listed on the schedule already submitted to the tribunal, which includes the regulations and guidelines issued by INEC for the election.

Ananaba subsequently raised an objection to all the documents which had already been certified by the Commission.

Ananaba also insisted on objecting to all the documents as listed in the schedule and hinted that he would give reasons for his objection in the final written address.

Counsel for Ademola Adeleke, Onyeachi Ikpeazu, and the PDP, Alex Izinyon, also objected to the admissibility of the evidence and indicated that they would give reasons in their final addresses.

Responding to their objections, Fagbemi sought to tender another piece of evidence which contained the ‘Schedule of the Documents’ to be tendered but Ananaba again objected on the grounds that it was never pleaded.

In his ruling, the Tribunal Chairman, Justice Tertsea Kume, admitted in evidence all the documents tendered and marked them as exhibits.

After the ruling, the petitioners’ counsel informed the tribunal that the tendering of other documents would be continued on Wednesday, as the list of the documents to be tendered in the next sitting had been given to the respondents’ counsel to cross-check.

The continuation of hearing was adjourned by the tribunal to Wednesday.

  • Osun: We ‘ll appeal nullification of APC primary – Oyetola’s Aide

Osun: We ‘ll appeal nullification of APC primary – Oyetola’s Aide

Ismail Omipidan, who is one of the aides of the  Osun state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has appealed to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to remain calm and resolute, following the decision of a Federal High Court that nullified the candidature of the governor in the July 16 gubernatorial election.

Recall that a  Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had on Friday nullified the nomination of the Osun Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and that of his Deputy, Benedict Alabi in their participation in the July 16, Osun gubernatorial.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Emeka Nwite while giving the order in a judgment declared as null and void, the nomination of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and Benedict Alabi by the APC.

However, Omipidan, made it known through a statement signed and released by him on Friday that the governor’s lawyers were getting set to challenge the decision of the Federal High Court at the Appeal Court.

He assured APC members in the state that the decision will be set aside when it gets to the Court of Appeal.

“The case was instituted by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite the fact there is a plethora of decisions flowing from the apex court that frowns upon such a decision.

“For the records, the position of the law is that only members of the APC who participated in the primary election can approach the court to challenge the nomination of Oyetola as the candidate of the party.

“All these are part of the antics of the opposition PDP and some of their collaborators from within to distract us. But like every of their plans, this too has fallen flat on their faces.

“They want to distract us from the tribunal case. But we shall remain focused until we take back our mandate. We have confidence in the Tribunal to do justice in the case before it, just as we have implicit confidence in the Appeal Court to set aside this latest decision of the Federal High Court,” Omipidan said.

The decision of the Federal High Court was predicated on the ground that Governor Mai Mala Buni who submitted their names to INEC violated the provisions of Section 183 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Section 82(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The court also held that Governor Buni holding dual executive positions as the Governor of Yobe State and the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the APC acted in contravention of the provision of Section 183 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The court held that the decisions taken by Governor Mai Mala Buni, including forwarding the names of Governor Isiaka Oyetola and Benedict Alabi to INEC, amounted to a nullity in law.

Governor Oyetola had already approached Election Tribunal to challenge the outcome of the July 16th gubernatorial election which he lost to Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP)

  • Osun Poll: Governor Oyetola reacts to loss, says setback is temporary

Osun Poll: Governor Oyetola reacts to loss, says setback is temporary

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has described his re-election bid loss to opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s Ademola Adeleke as a temporary setback,

Oyetola spoke at a meeting held inside the Osun Government House, Oke Fia, Osogbo, and well attended by many political appointees and party leaders, also said the loss was a test from God.

The Iragbiji-born politician appealed to party members present at the event to return to their various wards and continue regular party activities, stressing that the defeat must not distract them from the bigger project ahead.

“Rumours have been spreading around that I have run away after the election result was announced. We also heard the PDP saying I am trying to convert government assets to mine. Don’t worry about them, they are simply playing to the gallery.

“I summoned all of you here to assure you that the present situation is just a temporary setback. It is a test of our resolve by God and we will continue to stand by him. Ours is God’s project and we shall not despair.

“Go back to your various units and wards across the state and continue with regular party activities, and hold your meetings regularly. We have bigger projects ahead and we must not allow this temporary setback to distract us.”

He further said security operatives have been instructed to maintain law and order, harping on the need to remain peaceful.

“Some persons have been going around disrupting peoples’ daily activities. Do not be disturbed. I have instructed security operatives in the state to maintain law and order. We must continue to remain a peaceful state, nobody is allowed to misbehave,” he concluded.

  • Osun Poll: Oyetola lines up 50 lawyers, may head for tribunal

Osun Poll: Oyetola lines up 50 lawyers, may head for tribunal

There are indications that Osun State Governor,  Gboyega Oyetola may be heading to the tribunal to challenge the outcome of the July 16 governorship election result in the state.

About  50 lawyers, including senior advocates, have been penciled down to challenge the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party’s  (PDP) candidate, Ademola Adeleke, in the election.

Kunle Adegoke who is a member of the governor’s legal team hinted during an interview with pressmen on Tuesday concerning the Osun guber poll.

Meanwhile, in its swift reaction, governor-elect Ademola Adegoke and its party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have warned the Independent National Electoral Commission not to allow the All Progressives Congress to tamper with election materials.

The governor’s legal team has been sifting through the election results in preparation for taking serious legal action against the declaration of Adeleke as the governor-elect by the INEC.

Recall that INEC declared Adeleke governor-elect after polling 403,371 votes against APC’s 375,027 to emerge winner of the poll after a close contest.

According to the electoral body, Adeleke won in 17 local governments while Oyetola finished first in 13 LGAs in Osun state.

After his opponent was declared the winner, the governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismaila Omipidan, told his supporters to remain calm, noting that he would respond after studying the results.

He said, “Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has taken cognizance of the results of the governorship election in the state as announced by INEC on Sunday.

“He, however, noted that the party would be responding appropriately after studying the results and consulting with critical stakeholders of the party.”

But a member of Oyetola’s legal team, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), told newsmen on Tuesday that they were still reviewing the results declared by INEC.

He said, “We are still reviewing documents and the legal team is working. In an election of this nature, the documents will be so many; so it is important to look at them critically before we make a decision and that is exactly what we are working on right now.

“Dr. Biodun Layonu (SAN), is the leader of the team. The legal team is not complete yet because there are so many others that will still come in.

“In the meantime, the two members of the legal team we can reveal are Dr. Biodum Layonu and Kunle Adegoke. Others that may come in are people we may not know but as soon as we are ready to move, we will notify the press.

“The membership can’t be determined as many lawyers are interested in joining the team. You know election petition is a special case. So, we allow as many lawyers that are interested to come in. We may run into 50 or more members.”

Commenting on moves by the governor to contest the poll outcome at the election petition tribunal, the Media Adviser to the APC chairman in Osun State, Kola Olabisi, said whatever position was taken by Oyetola on the outcome of the election would also be the stand of the party. Olabisi disclosed this while speaking with newsmen on Tuesday.

Osun 2022: Aregbesola’s camp set to decamp to PDP

Barrister Kolapo Alimi former commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola has mentioned that he would be decamping to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Alimi didn’t mention any specific date for his proposed defection from the party, the first fixed date for the defection has elapsed.

This is as a resulting of the unending crisis rocking the APC in the state.

Recall that the incumbent governor Adegboyega Oyetola and his predecessor and now Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola are at loggerheads in the state over the state of affairs and godfatherism.

It was also gathered that apart from Alimi, other loyalists of the Minister of Interior might have concluded plans to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in the State.

A video, jingle which has been circulating on social media, revealed that the former Commissioner, who is a vocal critic of Governor Oyetola, had planned to defect to the PDP on March 23, along with his supporters.

When contacted Alimi revealed that defection to the opposition PDP is imminent if the differences between the Osun progressives TOP and the governor’s IleriOluwa group cannot be resolved.

He said “The date fixed for my decamping to PDP on the jingle was 23rd March 2022, it has elapsed and is outdated.

“Although there is a plan to join PDP, no date has been fixed. I don’t know anything about that jingle, I will make an official declaration if I am defecting.”

“It is possible to decamp to the PDP because we have issues with Oyetola, which everybody knows, so it is a possibility. If it gets to the level of defecting, why not, but as of today, I am still a member of APC,” he said.

Recall that Lasun had declared his intention to battle Gov. Gboyega Oyetola for 2022 gubernatorial ticket of the APC in Osun State.
