According to Kalejaye, the party is waxing stronger, intimidating to other political parties and is the  most organised and viable party in the  state.

He commended  the loyalty and commitment of its  leaders and members thus far, assuring its  teeming members  of better days ahead.

Kalejaye the party was optimistic that Nigeria’s economy would get better soon.

“We rejoice with our members, and indeed, all Christians, over the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which symbolises victory. It is the essence of Easter celebration.

“It is our wish that the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ will activate  deeper sense of patriotism, unity within our fold, and uncommon love for our dear state in the interest of all,”  he said.

2023: PDP screens 29 governorship aspirants from South-East

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday, screened 29 governorship aspirants from the three states of the South-East region for the 2023 general elections.

The aspirants were three from Abia, 10 from Ebonyi and 16 from Enugu.

Though the committee did not address newsmen after the screening, some of the aspirant who spoke lauded the process.

An aspirant from Enugu, Mr Josef Onoh, expressed satisfaction over the exercise, saying it was smooth and good.

Onoh said he had submitted all the necessary documents and hoped to participate during the party’s primary election.

Another aspirant, Sen. Obinna Ogba, representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, said he had submitted all that was required, adding that it was a hitch free exercise.

“It did not take me up to two minutes to do mine,” he said.

Briefing them, the Secretary of PDP South-East, Mr James Ugwu, said, “We invited them to brief them on how to do their campaigns without undermining and castigating anyone.

“The party expected them to tell people their manifestos and programmes and if we discover that anybody among them is busy running anyone down, the zone will definitely take action against the person,” Ugwu said.

  • Aggrieved APC governorship aspirants in Ekiti foreclose defection

Aggrieved APC governorship aspirants in Ekiti foreclose defection

The seven aggrieved All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in the just concluded primary election in Ekiti have said they would not leave the ruling party in spite of their grievances.

The Senator representing Ekiti Central, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele and Mr Femi Bamisile, a member representing Ekiti South at the House of Representatives who spoke on behalf of others said this on Wednesday at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti.

They alleged the breach of party’s constitution and vowed to address it politically and legally to serve as deterrent for future recurrence.

While addressing his campaign team across the 16 local government areas earlier, Bamidele insisted on rejecting the outcome of the exercise which produced Mr Biodun Oyebanji, as the APC flagbearer for the June 18 election.

Bamidele said, “None of us is contemplating defection from APC, this is our party. We have contributed so much to it from the days of Alliance for Democracy, (AD).”

He, however, said as much as they would not dump the party, they would not hesitate to seek redress of the alleged electoral fraud perpetrated against them.

“All we are asking for is justice. We are waiting for the national leadership to take the right step and this must start by them submitting a dummy name to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and use the two weeks window available as contained in the electoral act to do what is right in this matter.

“I can be quoted that the name that will be taken to INEC in Abuja will be dummy name, so those celebrating should do that in moderation.

“If it is part of their calculation that we will leave the party for them, they are making a mistake. We are still waiting for the national leadership on our collective position.

“We have filed petitions and if they endorse that impunity they called primary, it will be clear that we have exhausted all the internal mechanisms for crisis resolution and we can then return to the court of law,” Bamidele said.

He alleged that the exercise was hijacked with the distribution of election materials a day before, changing of collation centres and arbitrarily appointment of officials to do Oyebanji’s biddings to compromise and subvert the will of the people.

He narrated how campaign managers, sponsors and promoters of Biodun Oyebanji were appointed and saddled with the responsibility as Returning Officers in the 16 LGAs for the exercise.

“Out of the 16 Returning Officers appointed, 11 of them were with Oyebanji when he collected his expression of interest form at the party secretariat in Abuja.

“In several of our local governments, the venues of our collation centres were changed. At the appropriate time, we will give evidence that will put all of us in public court and that will be useful in the court of law.

“Available INEC report shows that there was no voting, no valid primary election in Ekiti.

“One thing I can assure you is that the last is yet to be heard about the Ekiti governorship primary. We will not stop at anything seeking for justice,” he said.

Speaking on the matter, Bamisile warned the security agencies against threatening people with arrest over the APC governorship crisis, saying such will not work.

“This is our state, we are fighting for what we believe in , this is a democracy where everyone has the right to support whoever they like.

“Nobody should threaten us with arrest, the only thing they can do to stop us is to allow justice in our party,” he said.

  • Anambra 2021: 11 Governorship aspirants dump APC enmasse, move to AAC

Anambra 2021: 11 Governorship aspirants dump APC enmasse, move to AAC

    From Chuks Collins, Awka

After series of marathon meetings that ended in fruitless efforts to resolve the crisis that beset the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state following the supposed June 26,2021 governorship primary, majority of the aspirants have reportedly dumped the party.

The move which came barely three hours to the July 30,2021 deadline for the closure of substitution window of names by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) saw to the literal dismemberment of the APC in the state by the 14 governorship aspirants.

While majority of the aspirants according to an inside source opted out of the party in protest after failed efforts to peacefully resolve the crisis, Chief George Moghalu, the main frontline aspirant and leader of the party in the South East zone remained behind to slug it out conclusively with Sen Andy Uba in court.

The rest led by Dr Chidozie Nwankwo resolved to move over to African Action Congress(AAC) where Nwankwo is the flagbearer.

They also agreed to return to the APC shortly after the November 6,2021 Governorship election in the state.

Two other aspirants-Chief Bennett Etiaba and Col Geff Onyejegbu(rtd) are to also fly the flag of other parties. But that they would collapse them into Dr Nwankwo’s AAC few weeks after, ahead the Nov 6,2021 election.

The source also disclosed that besides Moghalu, some others including Chief Ikeobasi Mokelu, Ise Nise opted to stick with Sen Uba.

The peace efforts was led by a special committee set up by the leadership of the APC made up principally by some serving APC state governors. Unfortunately their moves yielded no actual positive outcome.

  • 2019: PDP governorship aspirants kick against Ortom’s planned defection

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants in Benue have kicked against the return of the state governor, Mr Samuel Ortom, to the party.

The aspirants operating as “Forum of PDP Governorship Aspirants in Benue’’, stated this at news conference on Monday in Abuja.

Leader of the group, Dr Terhemen Tarzoor, said that the aspirants were not opposed to anybody coming into PDP but were mindful of such person’s character and values.

He said that while the aspirants wanted PDP to reclaim victory in Benue, they could not afford to accept someone of negative value coming to rob them of the chances of the party’s victory in 2019.

“We are people who believe that there should be value addition.

“This is someone who has not paid salaries for over one year and Benue people are not happy.

“The national secretariat of the party in its decision-making position, if they go with the philosophy of not recognising that all politics is local, then I can tell you we can lose.

“We are ready to accommodate everybody but let us not accommodate people who are of negative values that will rob on the party’s chances in the state.”

Tarzoor, who was PDP’s governorship candidate 2015 election in the state, said that if the person returning had negative value, the party should not go on believing that someone was coming in with state’s funds.

“We should look at the value of the person coming in because live is about credit and debit.

“He will come with the credit side which is money, but the debit side, we will lose election,” Tarzoor said.

In his remarks, Chairman of the forum, Prof. David Ker, said that while effort was ongoing by national leadership of the party to expand and boost PDP’s strength towards 2019, they should be mindful of the reality in Benue.

Ker said that they were mindful that it was in the interest of the party to welcome new members, but that it would be of more interest to ensure internal democracy and not allow imposition.

“We reiterate that a level-playing field for a free, fair and transparent primary election which has been promised us by the Benue state leadership of the PDP should be provided.

  • Ekiti Primary: APC to disqualify governorship aspirants over violence

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday said it will disqualify aspirants found guilty of disrupting the Ekiti governorship primary held on Saturday.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, gave this hint while responding to reporters’ questions at the APC National Secretariat, in Abuja, on Monday.

He spoke after the party’s National Working Committee received the report of the Governor Tanko Al-Makura- led Ekiti State Governorship Primary Committee.

Abdullahi explained that the NWC would meet on Monday night to take a final decision which would be made public today (Tuesday).

The party spokesman, however, declined to give the names of the aspirants who stood the risk of disqualification.

He said, “We just received a report from the chairman of the committee that we sent to Ekiti to conduct the governorship primary, the governor of Nasarawa state, Governor Tanko Al-Makura.

“He gave us a full report orally and submitted a written report of what transpired in Ekiti. They also made specific recommendations, which gave the NWC a couple of options on how to proceed.

“The NWC is meeting tonight (Monday) to consider the report and tomorrow morning, we will be able to make our decision clear on how to proceed.”

Speaking specifically about the violence which marred the exercise, he stated, “What I can assure you is that the individuals that took part in disrupting the exercise in Ekiti have been fully identified and we know the people they represented at the event.

“If we find them to be culpable accordingly, the aspirants they represent will be disqualified from the exercise and the individuals that participated in disrupting the exercise will be fully prosecuted.

“That is what I can tell you at the moment. But tonight (Monday), we will meet to consider the report and we will make our decision known and send the team back to Ekiti as part of the way forward.”
