    Hafsat, the daughter of the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has bagged a master’s degree in law from Soas University of London.

    Sanusi and his family members attended the graduation ceremony.

    Recall that Sanusi welcomed a baby girl with his fourth wife in November.

    Female student emerges best graduate with 5.0 CGPA at Bell’s University convocation

    Miss Rahmat Arogundade, a graduate of Mechatronics Engineering in the College of Engineering, has emerged the best graduating student of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun state, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0.

    This was one of the highlights of the 14th convocation of the university where various degrees, including doctorates, were conferred and prizes presented to the graduates.

    No fewer than 823 students graduated, with 47 of them bagging First Class Honours degrees; 422 Second Class Upper, 309 Second Class Lower and 45 awarded Third Class Honours.

    177 postgraduate students obatained degrees in different fields in the 2021/2022 academic session.

    Speaking at the occasion on Saturday,, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, stressed the need for the Federal Government to properly fund higher education to improve the quality of tertiary and other levels of education in the country.

    The vice chancellor noted that education was one of the fundamental factors of national development, adding that indisputably,it served as a major agent of transformation and development all through human history.

    He noted that no country could achieve a sustainable economic development without substantial investment in human capital.

    “Education enriches people’s understanding of themselves and the world and at the same time provides the much desired impetus for development.

    “It is the time for the Federal Government to wake up to its duties and responsibilities in properly funding higher education in the country.” he said.

    Ojediran emphasised the need for government to give due respect and attention to the education sector through proper funding of the higher education to achieve a sustainable national development.

    In his address of welcome, the President and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the institution, Dr Kola Jamodu, said that the institution had recorded remarkable achievements since its inception in 2005.

    Jamodu said that this could not have been achieved without the support of the founding fathers of the institution.

    He commended former president Olusegun Obasanjo for his inspiring vision and great contributions to education in the country.

    UNIBEN grants amnesty to 500 overstayed students

    The University of Benin has granted amnesty to more than 500 students who had overstayed in the university.

    Prof. Lilian Salami, the Vice-Chancellor of the university announced this on Thursday in Benin in her address at the 46th and 47th combined Convocation and 51st Founders’ Day ceremonies of the institution.

    Salami said the university had also carried out several academic reforms, milestones and accreditation under her watch.

    Part of these feats, she said was the introduction of a method whereby certificates of granduands would be available for collection right from the day of graduation.

    She said that the institution had also successfully introduced teaching methods through e-learning and physical teaching process as fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    To achieve this, the vice-chancellor said a Directorate of Quality Assurance was established to standardise academic activities and ensure quality service delivery across all academic programmes in the university.

    “At the inception of this administration, a major source of concern was gross disequilibrium in the ratio of teaching to non-teaching staff.

    “The figure available put the teaching staff at 1,779 while the number of non-teaching staff was approximately 6,063.

    “With the continuing embargo on employment, something drastic needed to be done to address the situation. The administration then began they process of sourcing from among non-teaching staff, qualified persons who were subsequently redeployed to teaching cadre.

    “So far, over 250 of such qualified staffers have been re-deployed to academics. The administration did not stop there. As at today, over 200 adjunct lecturers have also been appointed, to bridge the gap in teaching positions,” she said.

    Salami also said that the university under her administration had introduced five new programmes into the academic curriculum which are Bachelor of Arts in Music and Psychology, as well as Master of Science, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in Maternal and Child Health Nursing.

    The postgraduate programmes, she said were funded via the Centre of Excellence in Reproductive Health Innovation (CERHI).

    Meanwhile, the Chancellor of the University, Prof James Ayatse, who is the Tor Tiv in Benue, has called on tertiary institutions in Nigeria to be more innovative in tackling the enormous challenges inhibiting access to quality education.

    The chancellor Noted that Nigerian universities must engage in profitable ventures, without compromising the core objectives of setting up of the institutions, to augment their dwindling subventions.

    He, however, commended the vice-chancellor, members of the management team and other members of UNIBEN community for ensuring peace and stability on campus.

    Speaking in the same vein, Dr Sonny Kuku, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University advocated increased funding of education in Nigeria to achieve the desired result of producing highly skilled and competent manpower to drive the country.

    Kuku identified electricity supply, constant upgrading of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure as urgently needed facilities in order to keep up with the dynamics of technological advancement.

    A total of 17,517 students graduated for the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 academic sessions.

    PHOTOS: Acts of Christ Theological Seminary holds 23rd graduation ceremony

    Acts of Christ Theological Seminary, an affiliate of Jerusalem University College Rockford, IL USA over the weekend held its 23rd graduation ceremony.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the seminary held the graduation ceremony at the Chapel of Light, Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State.

    Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the Guest Speaker, Apostle (Dr.) Patrick Uturu emphasized on the need for concentration and certification of ministers.

    According to Apostle Uturu, ministers are to recognize that they are servants of God and should have the necessary integrity and ability to preach the true gospel and avoid anarchy and hypocrisy.

    “You can not be preaching to people to desist from something related to sin and you are soaked with the preached sin. God fearing ministers must concentrate and be certified by purging themselves of things of worldliness,” Uturu said.

    The Guest Speaker went on to advise the graduating students to be disciplined, and filled with wisdom, courage, integrity, endurance and faithfulness while discharging their duties.

    He concluded by asking the graduating students to emulate and adhere to the good work of the Director of the Acts of Christ Theological Seminary, Rev Hyacinth Anie, whom he described as an exemplary leader, who God has been using.

    Meanwhile, Rev Anie during the graduation ceremony acknowledged the presence of every dignitary and persons present for the auspicious event.

    According to the elated Director, the college graduation could not hold last year as a result of the pandemic, coupled with other circumstances that surrounded the year, Anie explained.

    “So, this is a double celebration. Besides, to be sincere no international donor or corporate organization has assisted the college, only some old graduates that came to sow seed. We have been steadfast and operating by faith. And the bible college has been distinguished from others because we operate to international standards,” the Director said.

    Anie subsequently called out the graduating students and they were presented with certificates of various categories ranging from certificate class, diploma, Bachelor of Arts, Master Degree and Ph.D of Acts in Theology.

    He advised the graduating students to go into the world and preach the true gospel, asking the graduates from certificate class not to relent efforts in proceeding to the next level.

    Rev Anie concluded by saying “the major challenges currently being faced by the college is how to relocate it from the rented apartment to build the God given site recently acquired”.

    Highlight of the event was the presentation of various categories of awards to deserving students for quality leadership, punctuality, resourcefulness, neatness, and amongst others.

    Aisha Buhari arrives Bauchi for graduation ceremony

    The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, arrived Bauchi on Thursday for the graduation ceremony of over 800 students who participated in her Skills Acquisition Programme.

    The programme is sponsored by Mrs Buhari’s NGO, the Future Assured initiatives, for women and youths in the state.

    Mrs Aisha Buhari, who arrived the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport at about 11.20 a.m., was accompanied by the wife of Nasarawa State governor, Mrs Mairo Al-Makura.

    Also on the entourage are the wife of Adamawa Governor, Mrs Maryam Bindow and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration, Dr Hajo Sani.

    The wife of the President was received at the airport by the Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi and his wife, Hadiza.

    From the airport, the wife of the President visited the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Adamu in his Palace before attending the graduation ceremony at the State Multi-Purpose Hall, Bauchi.

    The Strategic vision behind the engagement of the office of the wife of the president is to contribute to the acceleration of efforts to End Preventable Maternal, New born and Child deaths.
