EPL: Chelsea manager, Graham Potter recommended for sack

Chelsea boss, Graham Potter is under fire for his side’s poor run of form in the past few weeks.

Chelsea have been told to sack him following his latest disappointing defeat to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Former Aston Villa captain, Gabby Agbonlahor made this claim, saying that Potter should be relieved of his duty at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were beaten 1-0 by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday and followed that up with another defeat to bottom of the table Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

The Saints were without a manager but still managed to beat Chelsea by a solitary goal on Saturday to compound their woes.

“He should be sacked for that post-match interview,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

The Gaffer during his post-match press conference,  said he had to make some changes because of the Champions League  fixture.

Potter said he had to bring some different players in against a settled and organised Southampton.

“What are you talking about? They [Southampton] haven’t got a manager! You’re playing against a team that is in disarray, that can’t get back-to-back wins together, and you’re complaining about what?

“You had to bring [Mykhailo] Mudryk off the bench. You had to start [Joao] Felix, are you joking me?” Agbonlahor fumed.

Chelsea boss, Graham Potter, has noted some of the mistakes his club side made in their Premier League 1-1 draw with West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.

Chelsea’s Joao Felix and Emerson Palmieri scored for both clubs in the first half of the game as Graham Potter’s watched on.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Potter said Chelsea lost control for 10 minutes against West Ham and then conceded a goal in the first half.

According to him, that changes the dynamic of the game.

“Yeah, but you’ve got to earn that and we can’t complain or wait for luck to turn for us. We have to keep working. I thought in the first half we were positive, we started the game well, we scored a good goal, more opportunities as well, good attacking intent,” Potter said.

He added, “We lost a little bit of control for 5 or 10 minutes and then we conceded, which we could do better with, I think. That changes the dynamic of the game, but overall, I thought the first half was quite positive.”

Chelsea Manager Graham Potter has been backed by the club’s management Todd Boehly and his men to continue tinkering the Stamford Bridge side.

The management has assured Potter they have no plans to sack him at this difficult moment, saying the crisis is beyond the former Brighton& Hove Albion Manager.

UK Soccer pundit, Ben Jacobs made this revelation via his verified twitter handle on Friday.

According to Jacobs, Potter has been assured by the board members during the World Cup break he would be backed during the window and would be given ample time to shape the team according to his identity.

Continuing, he said that Potter had before taking the Job told the management it’s a long-term project.

Fans of the club have started shouting Potter out a move that show they are tired of Chelsea’s inconsistencies which saw them win just one game in their last ten matches.

EPL: My job at Chelsea is the hardest in world football – Potter

Chelsea manager, Graham Potter has revealed that his task to tinker the Stamford Bridge side is the hardest job in world football.

Chelsea are currently placed 10th on the English Premier League standing and have a date away with Fulham on Thursday night.

The Stamford Bridge side has only won just one game in their last ten,  in all competitions, losing six in the process.

Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel in September 2022, with Marina Granovskaia, Petr Cech, Bruce Buck, Guy Laurence and Scott McLachlan all leaving Stamford Bridge too.

“I understood that was going to be really difficult. I just thought from a leadership perspective, it is fascinating, challenging and stimulating and ridiculously hard.

“I think this is probably the hardest job in football because of that leadership change and because of the expectations and because of where people see Chelsea. And obviously I didn’t think we would lose 10 first-team players [to injury] as well,” Potter said.

EPL: Guardiola begs for more time for Chelsea’s coach, Potter

Following increasing pressure from fans calling for the sack of newly appointed Chelsea FC Manager, Graham Potter, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has appealed on his behalf for him to be given more time.

On Sunday evening, Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Chelsea  4-0 in the 3rd round FA cup encounter at the Etihad stadium.

The result meant Chelsea are out of domestic cup competitions in England and are only competing in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and English Premier League (EPL)

It was a particularly poor performance from Chelsea, who managed just one shot on target in the match, with fans heard chanting the name of former boss, Thomas Tuchel, during the second half.

The Blues have won just one of their last eight matches in all competitions in a wretched run that’s seen them get knocked out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup as well as slip down to tenth in the Premier League.

Commenting on the humiliating defeat, Potter said:“I can understand their [the fans’] anger. They’re supporters of Chelsea, they’re used to better than this and I can understand their position.

“All I know is that we’re working really, really hard. We’re in a tough moment and I think if we want to accomplish anything sometimes there’s going to be a struggle and that’s clearly what we’re in.

“That’s the challenge for us all, to try and stick together. I acknowledge the feelings of the supporters and I understand them.”

However,  Guardiola has called for patience and insisted that the former Brighton boss need to be given more time to turn things around.

“I would say to Todd Boehly, give him time,” Guardiola was quoted on talkSPORT. “I know in big clubs, results are important but I’d say give him time.

EPL: Chelsea coach, Potter gives injury update on Sterling, Pulisic

Following the injuries to Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic in the English Premier League game versus Manchester City on Thursday night, Chelsea coach Graham Potter has provided an injury update on both players.

Riyad Mahrez scored in the 63rd minute to secure an away win for the Citizens at Stamford Bridge.

Sterling was substituted after just five minutes and could be seen holding his hamstring following a collision with Man City defender, John Stones during the encounter on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge.

Pulisic, on the other hand, was also forced off after a crunching tackle from Stones on 22 minutes.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS after Chelsea’s defeat to Pep Guardiola’s side, Potter said: “Raheem felt the back of his leg when he did a backheel, a strange action, a strange sensation, so fingers crossed.

The Englishman then spoke to BBC Match of the Day and added: “It is too early to say with injuries.

“Raheem felt it within the first minute of the game. And then with Christian [Pulisic] we are hoping it’s not too serious.”

The result meant that Manchester City retains their second position on the log and narrows the gap between it and league leaders Arsenal to just five points.

  • EPL: How Newcastle condemned Chelsea to three straight defeats

EPL: How Newcastle condemned Chelsea to three straight defeats

Newcastle have now won five consecutive Premier League games for the first time since 2014, after defeating Chelsea football club 1-0 at Saint James’ park.

The victory meant  they are unbeaten in 10 games  for the first time since 2011.

Joe Willock’s stunning strike earned Newcastle a 1-0 victory over Chelsea thereby  condemning Graham Potter’s side to their third consecutive Premier League defeat, as the Blues boss blamed “unforced errors” for their latest downfall.

Neither goalkeeper was troubled unduly during a lacklustre first half, with Miguel Almiron volleying over at one end and Armando Broja forcing a routine save at the other as the opening 45 minutes ended predictably goalless

Newcastle, who went ahead two minutes later when Almiron embarked on a jinxing run before finding Willock, will enter the World Cup break as the top-flight’s third-placed team. Chelsea, however, are languishing in eighth.

Newcastle are presently occupying a Champions League spot and already fancying their chances of getting a continental  slot for next season’s campaign.

The English premier League will go on a break after sunday’s  matches and will resume one week after the World Cup 2022  in Qatar ends.

UCL: Potter explains Chelsea tactics in RB Salzburg win

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has explained how his tactics helped the Blues defeat RB Salzburg in a Champions League fixture on Tuesday.

The London club were impressive in the group stages of the competition notching a 2-1 win away from home against the Austrian side.

One of Potter’s changes for the game was to use Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling as wing-backs.

He stated of the move post-game: “The idea, because of how Red Bull defend, they often give you the opposite space. So if you can get the ball out to someone good in one-vs-one situations, you can have an advantage potential.

“But also, it makes them stretch across the pitch and open up games in their very organised line. I worked quite well today and I’m pleased for the boys.”

Asked if he was worried about the team being wasteful with the chances they created, he added: “I can’t comment on anything before I was here. All I can say is it’s good that we create chances and perform well.

“Then you back the quality of the players that the more they get there, the more chances we create, then the quality will come through. So it’s not so much of a concern.”

Real reasons I prefer Kepa to Mendy – Chelsea coach, Potter

New Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, has explained why he prefers to start Kepa Arrizabalaga to the Senegalese, Edouard Mendy.

Mendy has been relegated to the bench at Chelsea since the arrival of Potter to the club.

The gaffer explained that form and consistency  determines who starts between Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga for Chelsea.

Potter added that Kepa is the better of the two at the moment, saying he will continue to start him until he gets a conviction to do otherwise.

Recall that Kepa had initially lost his position to the Senegal international.

However, Mendy got injured several matches into the 2022/2023 season and Kepa then got his chance.

“Kepa has done really well. He has been supported fantastically by [Mendy] and [Marcus Bettinelli]. They provide good competition.

“Kepa’s form is really pleasing for everybody, especially him, so it’s nice we have competition in that area. That’s how you get players better.”

Kante last played for the Blues in August during their fiery 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

But niggling injury issues have left him on the sidelines.

Chelsea boss Potter provided a fitness update on the midfielder – and admitted things were “worrying”.

He said: “Again he’s due to see a consultant at the weekend. It’s a setback so it’s not good news. But anything other than that, at this stage I can’t give you any more.

“Historically, there are things which have happened which are a concern and we need to get the bottom of that.

“It’s a setback in the last stage of his rehab so again that’s worrying. But all we can do is get the right diagnosis, the right consultation and then try help him get back to full fitness and enjoying his football.”
