    Grammy: Tems gives reason for dedicating prestigious award to mother

    Nigerian singer, Tems during the 67th Grammy award held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, United States dedicated her win for Best African Music Performance to her mum.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the singer clinched the award for her song titled – “Love Me JeJe” at the 67th Grammy Awards, defeating Yemi Alade, Asake & Wizkid, Davido & Lojay, and Burna Boy, who were nominated in the same category.

    While receiving the award, Tems, expressed gratitude to God and dedicated the award to her mother noting that she had done so much for her and her brother.

    Tems also appreciated her team and others who had contributed to her success in the music industry.

    She said, “Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team.

    “Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you ma because she has really done a lot for me and my brother.

    “Happy birthday mum. And I want to thank my team. Muyiwa, Wale, my beautiful stylist, and lovely girls… I love you guys.

    66th Grammys: Seating arrangements for Davido, Burna Boy, others revealed

    The suspense ahead of the 66th annual Grammy Awards is growing as the seating arrangements for the ceremony have been unveiled.

    The organisers of the awards ceremony, Recording Academy, in videos on social media platforms, revealed how the award nominees will be seated.

    Nigerian afrobeats singers, Davido and Burna Boy, have their tables close to A-list artistes, just as they prepare for a historic night in their respective careers.

    Davido is expected to seat in the table that has Ziggy Marley and within close distance of Megan Thee Stallion.

    Burna Boy, on the other hand, has his seat reserved in the table that has 21 Savage and Brandy.

    This year, five exceptional Nigerian artistes’ nominations have attracted the interest of fans and industry experts.

    Their presence celebrates Nigerian music dynamism while also highlighting Afrobeats’ global importance.

    The addition of the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category to the awards has also sparked excitement among the African music community.

    Burna Boy, dubbed the “King of Afro-fusion”,  had already won the Grammys for Best Global Music Album in 2021.

    This year, he received four nominations: Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Sittin’ on Top of the World” with 21 Savage);  Best Global Music Performance (Alone); Best African Music Performance (City Boys) and Best Global Music Album (I Told Them).

    Davido is aiming for his first Grammy win this year.

    He received his first nominations for Best Global Music Album (Timeless);  Best African Music Performance (“Unavailable” featuring Musa Keys), and Best Global Music Performance (Feel).

    Olamide has made history as the first Nigerian rapper to bag a Grammy nomination.

    His collaborative song with Asake, ‘Amapiano’, has been nominated in the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys.

    With her popular song,  “Rush,” afrobeats musician, Ayra Starr, is among the first nominees for the newly created Best African Music Performance category.

    The 66th Grammy Awards will take place on Monday, Feb. 5 in Los Angeles.

    Grammy Award winning American singer, Pointer dies at 74

    Grammy-winner Anita Pointer of The Pointer Sisters gave up the ghost after a long battle with cancer on Saturday in the United States.

    Pointer passed away at the age of 74 her publicist confirmed.

    The singer died on Saturday, New Year’s Eve, at her home in Los Angeles, United States, where she was surrounded by family.

    According to a statement on Instagram on Sunday, Pointer’s family announced her death, confirming that the Grammy Award winner died after a heroic battle with cancer.”

    “While we are deeply saddened by her death, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her sisters, June & Bonnie and her daughter, Jada. Heaven is a more beautiful , loving place with Anita there,” it added.

    Anita was one of the founding members of the R&B group The Pointer Sisters, who delighted fans all over the world with hits including I’m So Excited, Jump and Fire.’

    Along with sisters Ruth and June, the group from Oakland, California, released its first album in 1973 before winning three Grammy awards.

    Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known by his stage name Iyanya, has spoken about his comeback, noting that 2022 was his most successful year since he returned to mainstream music.

    The Kukere hitmaker said he was booked for more than 20 shows in December alone and the last time he was this busy was in December 2017.

    Iyanya took to his Twitter page and recounted how he performed at only three shows last year because he had faded from the spotlight.

    According to the Project Fame winner, one of the shows was paid but he had to beg to perform at the other two of the events.

    He expressed deep thanks to God as he noted that he wakes up to daily credit alerts from people booking him for events.

    Iyanya also showed appreciation to fans for supporting him by streaming his music and prayed for them to be blessed.

    He promised to make 2023 a better year for everybody who stood by him through his downs and ups in 2022.

    The singer wrote; ”Last year December 2021, I performed at 3 shows, one paid and I begged to perform at 2 just to be seen. In 2022 December, I wake up and everyday to alerts for shows, haven’t had this kind of busy december since 2017. 20+ shows in on month. God Thank you ??

    “And to my fans and everyone who streamed my music this year, God Bless you. There’s got to be more and I promise 2023 will be a better year for everyone who has supported me this year. We will definitely have a great 2023.”

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Iyanya rose to fame after winning the first season of Project Fame West Africa and is best known for his hit single “Kukere”.

    He co-founded the record label Made Men Music Group with Ubi Franklin in 2011. He released his debut studio album My Story in 2011. It was supported by the singles “No Time” and “Love Truly”.

    Desire, his second studio album, contained five singles: “Kukere”, “Ur Waist”, “Flavour”, “Sexy Mama”, and “Jombolo”. He won the Artist of the Year award at The Headies 2013.

    In October 2016, Iyanya announced on Instagram that he signed a record deal with Mavin Records. Few months prior, he signed a management deal with Temple Management Company. He first announced his intentions to leave Made Men Music Group in July 2016.

    On 25 November 2012, Iyanya performed at comedian AY Makun show held at the INDIGO2 arena. To promote his second album in the UK, Iyanya headlined the Iyanya vs. Desire concert. It started in London and ended in Manchester.

    The London concert was held at the INDIGO2 arena on 9 June 2013. It featured performances from Tonto Dikeh and Emma Nyra. On 14 June 2013, the Manchester concert commenced and featured performances from Emma Nyra and DRB Lasgidi.

    Iyanya and his label mate Emma Nyra went on a mini tour across the US and Canada in early 2013. Iyanya performed at the Shrine in Chicago on 11 April 2013. He also performed at the African Muzik Magazine launch on 12 April 2013, which was held in Dallas, Texas.

    The singer serenaded Grammy Award nominee Melanie Fiona at the LTB Jean store in Soho, New York, and performed at the world-renowned New York Fashion Week.

    Days after fight online between Grammy Award winning singers, Burna Boy and Wizkid, the later has opened up on their relationship.

    In an interview, Wizkid revealed that Burna Boy is family to him.

    When asked to choose between Tems and Burna, Wizkid responded, “They are both family mehn. I can’t choose one over the other.”

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that despite their online fight, a video of Wizkid vibing to Burna Boy’s song surfaced and sparked reactions.

    The reason it got people talking is that the duo recently had a subtle clash on social media which saw them throwing shades at each other.

    Big Wiz and Burna boy, who are friends, indirectly argued about who is richer and this caused fans to speculate that their friendship might be over.

    However, a video which just resurfaced captured Wizkid in a night club smoking and jiving as Burna Boy featured song, Yaba Buluku played loudly.

    The clip first hit the internet few months ago, but it suddenly resurfaced amid their ‘purported ‘beef’ and generated reactions.

    Burna Boy dragged Wizkid’s fans (Wizkid FC) after a cross-section of his fans launched a new targeted online assault on the music star.

    It all started when Burna Boy’s fans replied to a claim from a die-hard Wizkid fan, Mr Mdee who posted a tweet claiming that tickets for Burna Boy’s sold-out show that had 1600 in attendance went for $14 with an additional CD.

    He claimed the ticket price and the CD was a ploy by Burna Boy to get a number single in the UK.

    Recall that Wizkid had reminded his critics of his achievement in the music industry.

    The singer had taken to his official Snapchat account to brag about his confidence in his success and wealth.

    According to the Grammy Award winning singer, even if he retires from his career today, his wealth will remain unmatched in the music industry.

    In his words: “I can decide to stop touching the mic today and y’all Lil ni**as can’t touch the wealth. Even if you ask your mom and dad for help. #MoreLoveLessEgo #Everybody’sDaddy.

    Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has informed Burna Boy that “Small Nyansh Dey Shake” as both call out each other after the latter confronted the former following claims of being the bigger fish in the music industry.

    The beef started when Wizkid sent a message to his colleagues in the music industry.

    Taking to his Snapchat account, Wizkid told them to start addressing him as sir or daddy.

    The self-acclaimed Giant of Africa (Burna Boy) wrote: “I can’t talk money with you if you haven’t Made $100M this year. Just smoke BRKFST and Sit down.”

    Burna Boy threw shade at Davido as he replied to Wizkid, who sent a message to his colleagues in the industry that they need to call him daddy or sir.

    In his reaction, Burna Boy stated that he was the uncle to Davido in the industry.

    Nigerian singer and songwriter, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, has made known how he got into the Nigerian music industry from prison in the U.K.

     

    The Grammy-Award-winning artist shocked Nigerians with his most-recent revelation.

     

    Odogwu, as he is fondly called by fans shared via the micro-blogging platform, Twitter where he disclosed that he came into the Nigerian industry straight from Chelmsford prison.

     

    He further stated that Nigerians would be happy if they knew how much of a risk he used to put himself daily, just to make ends meet.

     

     

    Odogwu maintained that he had no idea that he would live this long, and does not care about being the biggest artist in Nigeria.

     

    According to him, he only loves doing what he loves.

     

    He rose to stardom in 2012 after releasing “Like to Party”, the lead single from his debut studio album, L.I.F.E (2013).

     

    In 2017, Burna Boy signed with Bad Habit/Atlantic Records in the United States and Warner Music Group internationally. His third studio album, Outside, marked his major-label debut.

     

    In 2019, he won Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards and was announced as an Apple Music Up Next artist. His fourth studio album, African Giant, was released in July 2019 and won Album of the Year at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards and was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.

     

    He was awarded the African Artist of the year at the 2020 VGMA’s.

     

    Burna Boy released his fifth studio album, Twice as Tall, in August 2020, which was nominated for the same category at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, making him the first Nigerian artist with back-to-back nominations at the Grammys.

    He was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

    His maternal grandfather, Benson Idonije, once managed Nigerian multi-instrumentalist Fela Kuti.

     

    His mother, Bose Ogulu, later became his manager.

     

    Odogwu grew up in southern Nigeria and began making his own beats using FruityLoops.

     

    The singer attended Corona Secondary School in Agbara (Ogun State) and relocated to London to further his studies.

     

    He later studied media technology at the University of Sussex from 2008 to 2009, then studied media communications and culture at Oxford Brookes University from 2009 to 2010.

     

    Burna Boy then returned to Port Harcourt and took up a year-long internship at Rhythm 93.7 FM.

    Grammy award-winning singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy, has called out Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, after exchanging words with the latter’s fanbase.

    Burna Boy had taken to his Twitter page to praise his album.

     

    He noted the several achievements his album, African Giant has recorded over the years.

     

    A fan of Wizkid tackled the singer and he responded.

    Clapping back, Burna Boy stated that if he was not friends with Wizkid, he would have banged his face on sight so his Twitter jokers wouldn’t realize he is not Davido.

     

    However, he would not do such because he was better and more mature.

    Nigerian music sensation, Burna Boy has revealed why he’s yet to become a father at 31.

    In a recent interview with Billboard, the Grammy Award winner said not having a child at this point of his life makes him feel good and bad at the same time.

    “When you turn 31 and ain’t got no kids, everything is going good and bad at the same time. You reflect and then you get as lit as possible,” he said. The African Giant singer made the 44-track summer playlist of American ex-president, Barack Obama. He made the list alongside Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Aretha Franklin, and Tems.

    Obama posted his annual playlist on his Twitter page on Tuesday. “Every year, I get excited to share my summer playlist because I learn about so many new artists from your replies—it’s an example of how music really can bring us all together,” Obama wrote. “Here’s what I’ve been listening to this summer.”

    Nigerian afrobeat singer, Ayodeji Balogun a.k.a Wizkid, has received his Grammy award plaque.

    Wizkid became the second Nigerian to receive a plaque after Burna Boy received his own few weeks ago.

    The singer, who said he was so excited, took to his Instagram handle @wizkidayo to announce the award of plaque to his fans and music lovers, as he display the award photo of the plaque with his name on it.

    On March 14, the Nigerian superstar won ‘Best Music Video’ for his role on ‘Brown Skin Girl’ at the 63rd Grammy Award, which was held in Los Angeles, United States of America.

    He won the award alongside Beyonce, who owned the song and featured artists, Saint John and Blue Ivy.

    The award would also go to Jenn Nkiru, who directed the video.

    The song, which was made for Beyonce’s album ‘Lion King’, ‘The Gift,’ also featured other Nigerian artists in October 2019.

    The Nigerian Afrobeats star won awards at the 2021 Grammys alongside Burna Boy.

    Wizkid won the Best Music Video for his song with American music star, Beyoncé, ‘Brown Skin Girl, from Lion King: The Gift album’. while Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category.

    Meanwhile, some of Wizkid’s fans have taken to his instagram page to relive and praise the singer’s achievement.
