What I will do if I win Grammy – Davido

Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has stated how he would feel should he ever win Grammy awards.

According to Davido, he will be extremely happy any day he lays his hands on the Grammy awards.

He, however, maintained that he didn’t release his latest album, ‘Timeless’ with the intention of winning awards.

Davido made this known in a recent interview with Brut.

The Assurance crooner said he is a digital artiste, but for his collaboration with The Cavemen and Grammy-award winning Beninese legend, Angélique Kidjo ‘Na Money’, he had to do a live record.

He said, “I was happy that I was out of my space and able to deliver that song [‘Na Money’]. Because I’m a digital artist; I record music digitally.

“But for that song [‘Na Money’], we had to record it live because The Cavemen record live.”

He continued, “If I win a Grammy, I will be happy, but I didn’t make this album [‘Timeless’] because I wanted to win anything.

“I made this album going into it, you know, happy, natural, you know what I’m saying!”

Grammy Award winner, Tems gives God all the glory over her win

Popular singer-songwriter, Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has reflected on her blessings days after bagging her first Grammy Award.

It would be recalled that the sensational Afrobeats musician won her first ever Grammy Award in the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her contribution to Future’s “Wait for U”.

Days following her victory, Tems took to her Twitter page to express profound appreciation to the almighty.

According to her, she is speechless and unable to say what the Lord has done for her.

She returned all the glory to God who she believes is the reason behind her streak of success.

“What God has done for me, I can’t even speak. All the glory really belongs to Him,” Tems wrote.

The music act also extended gratitude to her fans who have been unceasingly supporting and rooting for her. She assured them that she doesn’t take their belief and support in her for granted.

“To everyone one that has been supporting me still. Through everything, please know I don’t take it for granted. I truly appreciate it, the love has been too too much. Thank you so much Rebel Gang. We up very soon✨❤️,” she added.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Tems, who featured alongside Drake on Future’s ‘Wait for You’, now joins Sade Adu, the Nigerian-British singer as the female artists who have taken home the Grammy.

Sade took home the Grammy Award in 1986 when she emerged as the winner of the Best New Artist award.

Recall that Burna Boy, who has a Grammy award too on his shelf, however, missed out on the two nominations he featured in.

His album ‘Love Damini’,  and his song ‘Last Last’ were nominated for Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance awards respectively.

The winners of these categories respectively were the Japanese musician Masa Takumi for his album ‘Sakura’ and ‘Bayethe’ by Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and  Nomcebo Zikode. The winners were announced at the premiere ceremony of the Grammys.

1934 song nominated for record of the year

Unbelievably, Cole Porter’s I Get A Kick Out Of You is one of the 10 songs in the running for record of the year, thanks to a new cover version by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett.

It’s part of a hallowed Grammy tradition of recognizing the old guard – regardless of whether their latest release helped define the year in music.

In Bennett’s case, it’s a fitting tribute to a career that has spanned eight decades in clubs and concert venues. The star announced his retirement last year at the age of 95, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Drake asked to be left out

Drake’s latest opus, Certified Lover Boy, had been nominated for rap album, and the single Way 2 Sexy, featuring Future and Young Thug, was up for rap performance. But he asked for the nominations to be withdrawn before the voting period closed, and the Academy honoured his request.

He’s a long-time critic of the ceremony – even when he wins. “We play an opinion-based sport, not a factual-based sport,” he said while picking up an award for God’s Plan in 2019. “You already won if you have people singing your songs word for word, if they’re singing in your hometown. You’re already winning, you don’t need this right here.”

Also absent is The Weeknd, who is refusing to participate in the Grammys after being snubbed last year.

Ariana Grande and Doja Cat also declined to submit their duets with the star for awards, in an apparent show of solidarity. But Kanye West didn’t get the memo: His single Hurricane, which features The Weekend and Lil Baby, made it onto the best melodic rap song shortlist.

Surprise nomination of Pakistani Arooj Aftab

Equally shocked was Pakistani-American musician Arooj Aftab, who gained a nomination on the strength of her third album Vulture Prince.

Fans of British band Glass Animals were stunned to see them nominated this year, more than a decade after they first formed (they are only now feeling the first flushes of US success, with the number one single Heat Waves).

“I didn’t think that something like that could happen,” said the 37-year-old before heading to Las Vegas for the ceremony, adding: “I felt like it’s something that should happen.”

Aftab, who studied at the Berklee School of Music and is based in Brooklyn, has won rave reviews for her music – which mingles jazz, Hindustani classical music and Sufi devotional poetry. Her album, Vulture Prince, is dedicated to her younger brother, who died during the writing of the record.
