Delta: Oborevwori finally speaks after clinching PDP guber ticket

Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly and PDP Governorship standard-bearer, Sheriff Oborevwori says his victory at the PDP governorship primaries on Wednesday in Asaba is for the people of the state.

The PDP governorship candidate in a statement he personally signed on Thursday in Asaba, said there were no losers in the contest, adding that the contest was a family affair, declaring “we are all winners”.

Oborevwori said, “I am deeply humbled that most of our party delegates at the gubernatorial primaries in Asaba chose me from among the list of other eminently qualified aspirants as the PDP flag bearer for the 2023 governorship election in Delta.

“Their overwhelming support is an emphatic endorsement of my agenda, which seeks to keep Delta ahead in all aspects of social and economic wellbeing.

”The broad spectrum of the voting pattern is very reassuring and consistent with my pan Delta disposition”.

He commended Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa for  providing a level playing ground for all the governorship aspirants.

”Indeed, governor Okowa has once again solidified his reputation as a model democrat.

”It is on record that under his administration, party primaries in the state have been competitive, free, fair, and transparent, a wholesome departure from what it was before his coming in 2015.

“Thank you, Your Excellency, for being a torchbearer.

” I celebrate my family,  teeming supporters, friends, political associates and well wishers who believed in me and stood solidly behind me.

”The outpouring of goodwill and encouragement fuelled me on.

“Let me also thank the leadership of the PDP in the state for their unity of purpose and organisational savvy.

”The primaries were devoid of rancour, suspicion, and distrust, a powerful testament of their commitment to fairness and equity.

”I also extend my gratitude to all the security agencies for ensuring that the primaries were conducted in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere,” he said.

Oborevwori, who is also the National Deputy Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, said “I salute all my fellow contestants for making this contest an interesting one.

”Your determination and competitive fire ensured that there was no dull moment throughout the campaign. In my book, we are all winners. It is just that in a contest like this, one person must win.

”And now that it is over, I eagerly look forward to all of us working together for the success of the PDP at the 2023 elections at all levels.

“Finally, to the people of the state, I assure you that an Oborevwori administration will bring more prosperity and development.

”During the consultations/campaign, I endeavoured to sell my person and my agenda to the members of our party and people of Delta in general.

”But of even weightier consideration is that my interactions with our people afforded me the opportunity to feel their pulse, understand their challenges, and identify with their aspirations.

”Therefore, I assure you that I am well poised to make life richer, better, and more fulfilling for everyone,” he stated.

2023: Group advises Lalong, APC leadership against imposing guber candidate

A group, Equity and Justice Forum, has advised Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau and the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) against imposing a candidate on the delegates at the forthcoming gubernatorial primary election in the state.

Equity and Justice Forum Chairman, Mr Omar Shittien and the Co-Chairman, Chief Samu’ila Danko Makama, gave the advice when they addressed newsmen on Friday in Jos.

The group said that equity, justice, fairness and a level playing ground should be provided for all the governorship aspirants.

They warned that Plateau would never allow itself to be piloted by a cabal as it was trending on social media.

“What is about to happen is disheartening to Equity and Justice Forum, a stakeholder and political action entity, that worked for the emergence and victory of APC in Plateau in 2015.

“We are faced again by the injustice perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during its party primaries in 2014. It is sad that such an unfortunate history is about to repeat itself in the APC.

“It would be recalled that in 2014 the Equity and Justice Forum did a press briefing cautioning the then governor of the state not to impose an anointed gubernatorial aspirant during the governorship primaries in the state.

“The forum also stated the consequences that will follow if the warning was not heeded.

“However, the call fell on deaf ears and eventually the consequences caught up with the governor and the PDP in the secondary election.

Unfortunately, it is now evident that the present administration and beneficiary of the Plateau Project appears not to appreciate the efforts of the good people of Plateau in combating injustice and undemocratic processes.

“Instead, we see anti-people policy and undemocratic processes playing out within the party.

“It will amount to total hypocrisy, bias and injustice to Plateau if the Equity and Justice Forum keeps mute and watches nonchalantly a repeat of the vice and undemocratic process it fought against in 2014 and 2015,” Shittien said.

The chairman said that if the group gave its consent to the act about to be perpetrated within the APC in the state, it would become partakers of it.

He said this would contradict members firm belief in the growth of democracy and dispensation of equity and justice to all.

He said that the news briefing was to enable the group to speak out against the undemocratic act that was about to be executed by the present leadership of the ruling party in the state.

According to him, what started as a rumour that there is an anointed candidate in the APC that must win the governorship primary election at all cost is gradually becoming a reality.

“We acknowledge that any member of the party has the constitutional right to support any aspirant of his or her choice within the APC.

“What is, however, worrisome is the crooked process been taking to ensure a particular candidate clinches the APC gubernatorial ticket at all cost and against the popular wish of party men and women.

“We got it on good authority that forms meant for delegates election have been hijacked for onward distribution to specific stooges to be used as delegates in the primary elections, to make it appear that the primary is free and fair.

“The preferential treatment given a particular candidate at the expense of all other governorship aspirants who have deployed their resources, time and energy … is a total show of ingratitude to them and their huge supporters,” he added.

“At the meeting of stakeholders from the 14 Tiv speaking local government areas held Sunday, April 17th, 2022 at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House, the aspirants unanimously presented Hon Uba to the Governor as their consensus.

Governor Ortom charged the consensus candidate to work with the aspirants and visit them individually in order to convince them to work for him and also share their manifestos with him.

Delta 2023: Another guber aspirant, Ofobruku snubs lobby group’s report

    By Emman Ovuakporie

Another guber aspirant in the Delta State guber race, Hon Efe Ofobruku has snubbed DC-23 screening committee dismissing its report as a mere joke.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports this is coming barely 48hours after Chief Fred Majemite, Chief Ejaife Odebala pooh-poohed, the screening committee’s report that condensed the number of aspirants to five with the hope of further decongesting the list to three.

Ofobruku while addressing a press conference on Thursday described the development as “a mere joke to say I was not cleared.

    Hear Him:

“For the avoidance of doubt I Hon. Efe Ofobruku the foremost Governorship aspirant on the platform of our party the PDP expressed concern and lack of faith in the composition of the screening committee ab initio.

“I have been Screened at different times by our party, cleared by INEC and contested and won elections and served full terms without hiccups.

“So it becomes a mere joke or smoke screen to say I was not cleared by a panel I never believed its composition and with no known criteria for justification of its outcome.

” My participation even with obvious conflict of interest in the membership was a way of giving what is Caesars to Caesar and that which is God’s to God.

    Read full statement below:

Good Morning Gentle men of the Press, Ladies and Gentle men.
I bring you warm greetings in this festive period as the Christmas and New Year Celebrations approach.
I have called you all here today after due consultations with my leaders, supporters and party faithfuls across Delta state.
Just very recently precisely Monday the 13th of December, the said screening committee set by DC-23 to screen Governorship Aspirants who are members of the DC-23 submitted its report.
Whereas I have not been officially communicated by either the said Committee or DC-23 of the outcome but was shocked by what I read from various news media as the content of the submitted report.
For the avoidance of doubt I Hon. Efe Ofobruku the foremost Governorship aspirant on the platform of our party the PDP expressed concern and lack of faith in the composition of the screening committee ab initio.
I have been Screened at different times by our party, cleared by INEC and contested and won elections and served full terms without hiccups.
So it becomes a mere joke or smoke screen to say I was not cleared by a panel I never believed its composition and with no known criteria for justification of its outcome. My participation even with obvious conflict of interest in the membership was a way of giving what is Caesars to Caesar and that which is God’s to God.
I want to state that my big brothers and leaders as well as some stakeholders who we have worked with and served since 1999 till date can not use the cover of a screening committee to BULLY me the only ambassador of the future and next generation of Delta State out of the race to Succeed His Excellency Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa. I am very well qualified to be Governor of Delta having served two times in the House of Assembly, as Special adviser to the Governor and even Director of Administration in the PDP Governorship Campaign for the 2019 general elections.
I therefore wish to state unequivocally that I am still very much in the race for Governor of Delta State in 2023, as I am the hope and aspiration of majority of the youth and women of Delta State who constitute majority of the voting population.
I am the Bridge between the Delta of our past and the great future we all look forward to in 2023.
Let me also emphasize and pledge my unalloyed loyalty to our party the PDP led by Olorogun Kingsley Esiso and the hard working Governor of our state and leader of the party Sen. ( Dr.) Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa.
I remain a committed, loyal and faithful member of the Party.
Consequently, I wish to call on my teaming Supporters to disregard any rumour making the rounds as we work towards the Party primaries in 2022.
My vision for our dear State propelled by our Team the Delta for Deltans movement ( D4D) remains on course and continues with wide consultations across the state.
    God Bless the PDP,
    God bless Delta State,
    Thank you for your time.
