    Guinness World Record: 31-year-old Nigerian begins tour to all African countries without using aircraft

    In his bid to set a world record and enter the Guiness book of records, a Nigerian man, Ilerioluwa Babalobi has embarked on a nine-month Africa tour.

    The nine -month trip will take him to all African countries.

    Babalobi began his tour from the Red Cross office in Lagos, where he set out for the journey to 54 African countries by road and sea using the public transportation system.

    The 31-year-old Nigerian will spend an average of 5 days in each African country in order to raise awareness for social interventions across Africa.

    The tour would make Babalobi the first African to tour the continent without using an aircraft.

    In his trending statement, he explained that he would be visiting the tourist sites and interacting with the culture of each of the countries.

    Babalobi is reported to have previously visited each Nigerian state and the 16 regions of Ghana and over a dozen African countries.

    29-year-old Nigerian chess player, Onakoya breaks Guiness World Record

    A 29- year old Nigerian chess champion and child education advocate, Tunde Onakoya  has played chess nonstop for 58 hours in New York City’s Times Square to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon in the world.

    Onakoya, is hopeful to raise a huge sum of $1 million for children’s education across Africa through the record attempt that began on Wednesday.

    It was gathered that he crossed the 58-hour mark at about 02:30 a.m. GMT Saturday, surpassing the current chess marathon record of 56 hours, 9 minutes and 37 seconds, achieved in 2018 by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad, both from Norway.

    However, despite Onakoya’s feat the Guinness World Record organization has yet to publicly comment about Onakoya’s attempt. It sometimes takes weeks for the organization to confirm any new record.

    The Nigerian  played against Shawn Martinez, an American chess champion, in line with Guinness World Record guidelines that any attempt to break the record must be made by two players who would play continuously for the entire duration.

    Support had been growing online and at the scene, where a blend of African music kept onlookers and supporters entertained amid cheers and applause.

    Guinness World record winning chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey popularly known as Hilda Baci has revealed that she can’t date or marry a man who knows how to cook.

    According to her, cooking is her passion, saying she doesn’t want a man who will outshine her in the kitchen.

    The former Guinness World Record holder said her love language is a man ordering food for her.

    Speaking in a viral podcast video making the rounds on X (formerly Twitter), Baci said, “I don’t want a man that knows how to cook. I don’t want it. I like cooking so much. My friends would tell you like Hilda would show you love, she will send you food. You will cook for you. That’s kind of one of the things I like to do for people that I care about, especially for my man.

    “You can wake me up in the middle of the night and say, ‘Babe, I want a doughnut. I want meat pie.’ And I’m flying to the kitchen to make it for you. That’s my thing. I want a man that can order me food. If you don’t have a problem with ordering me food, I’m in love.”

    Guiness World Record: OAU student begins 50-hour hand wash-a-thon challenge

    A student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun State identifed as Enitan Subair has commenced a 50-hour hand wash-a-thon on Friday to set a new Guinness World Record.

    Findings show that she had notified the GWR in June 2023 of her intentions and was given November 24 to embark on her attempt.

    Subair who is studying Linguistics and African Languages has the backing of the university’s student union.

    Speaking before she officially started washing clothes, Subair expressed optimism that she would finish strong as the title holder of the longest hand-washing hours.

    Abbas Akinremi-Ojo, the OAU Student Union president has reiterated the SUG’s support including an ambulance and lighting, among other logistics, has been put in place to ensure she wins the challenge.

    Moreso, the school management, represented by the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor John Odedire, said the institution is ready to give all it takes to ensure she clinches the record.

    Why I deserve to be in Guinness World Records – Tinubu declares

    President Bola Tinubu has given reasons why he should be listed in the Guinness World Records for the reforms he has made since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

    Tinubu stated that during his time as governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007, he moved the state from zero to becoming the fifth largest economy on the continent, adding that his track record prepared him for the presidency.

    He made this known during the 10th German-Nigerian Business Forum in Berlin, Germany.

    His words: “For those who fear various obstacles, look at me; I come from the private sector, and I’m one of you, trained by Deloitte. I served as the treasurer of Exxon Mobil. Define corporate governance in any way, and I am in it.

    “I governed Lagos for eight consecutive years. Today, I can proudly beat my chest that Lagos State is on the horizon and the fifth-largest economy in Africa, rising from zero. This is the track record that led me to the office of president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

    “Nigeria voted for me for reforms, and from day one of my inauguration, I started the reforms. To me, if you didn’t mention me in the Guinness Book of Records, I’d thrive to find a way to insert myself because I did it without expectation, my inaugural speech disclosed what I would do” Tinubu added.

    Tinubu’s remarks came after two crucial agreements between Nigerian and German companies were signed in Berlin on Tuesday.

    After Hilda Baci broke the  Guinesss World Record for the longest cooking marathon another Nigerian woman, Helen Williams, breaks record for the longest handmade wig.

    The Guinness World Record in its X handle noted that Helen achieved the feat for the longest handmade wig, which stretches an incredible 351.28 metres.

    “Helen Williams from Lagos, Nigeria, has achieved a new record for the longest handmade wig which stretches an incredible 351.28 metres (1,152 ft 5 in),”

    Hilda was officially declared the holder of the longest cooking marathon Guinness World Record in June. Over her four days in the kitchen.

    Hilda was, however, dethroned as the record holder of the longest cooking marathon.

     

  • Breaking: Dangote Flour breaks Guiness World Record

    The Dangote Flour Mill has broken the Guinness Book of Records for the World’s Largest Puff-Puff pyramid, as it fried two metric tonnes of flour to celebrate the 2018 World Puff-Puff Day on 27 October.
    Anthony Chiejina, Group Head, Corporate Communication, Dangote Group, said on Sunday that the company broke the record of 200kg, which equals to four bags of flour recorded to have been fried at a location.
    Puff- Puff, is a delicious “street food’’ made by deep frying flour, yeast, sugar, water, salt.
    Ghanaians call it Bofrot (togbei) , Cameroonians and Nigerians call it Puff-Puff (Puff) or beignet in French.
    “To beat the record, Dangote Flour at the event, fried two metric tonnes of flour, which is over 40 bags of 50kg,” Chiejina said.
    According to him, to celebrate the maiden edition of World Puff-Puff Day, over 50 confectioners engaged to produce over 30,000 pieces of the local snack, as part of activities marking the day.
    He said that the event at Muri Okunola Park, in Victoria Island, Lagos had in attendance the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, and over 1,000 people, including school children drawn from various schools.
    Managing Director Dangote Flour Mills, Thabo Mabe, said that World Puff-Puff Day, was an initiative of the flour miller to celebrate the confectioners who fry the delicacy, the consumers who enjoy the snack and the sellers who make a living from selling it.
    Mabe said that the event was organised to celebrate Nigeria’s creativity in the local delicacy, as well as further create awareness for the company’s 1.5kg size flour launched in March.
    The Executive Director, Dangote Flour Mills, Halima Aliko-Dangote, said that following the success of the maiden edition, the company decided to celebrate the World Puff Puff day on Oct.27.
    “This is giving back to the community. Through this event, we have been able to empower the confectioners and all the puff puff fried in relation to this program are given out free to feed the community,” she said.
    She said that the 2019 edition would be in collaboration with other flour manufacturers in the country to further enlighten Nigerians on the various ways to use flour, as well as its nutritional value.
    Funmi Bolarinwa, Group Marketing Executive, Dangote Flour, said through the programme, it was identified that over 4,000 people were making a living through frying puff-puff, while over 100,000 are into other pastries businesses.
    She said the company experimented with various flavours including vanilla, coconut, fried chili and classic to show Nigerians different ways they could enjoy the snack.
    “We are showcasing our delicacy and also exporting one of the exciting products we love to the rest of the world,” Bolarinwa said.
