    BREAKING: Guinness World Records denies Nigerians access to website

    Currently, Nigerians are not able to access the website of Guinness World Records as the website has been configured to block traffic from the country.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports a visit to the website returns a “403 Error” page with a message boldly written, “The request could not be satisfied”.

    The message on the website also contains the following information: “The Amazon CloudFront distribution is configured to block access from your country.

    “We can’t connect to the server for this app or website at this time. There might be too much traffic or a configuration error. Try again later, or contact the app or website owner”.

    However, a visit to the website using a virtual private network (VPN) went through.

    TNG reports this is coming after Guinness World Records made a publication on the website with the title, “Nigerian chef Hilda Baci bids for longest cooking marathon with 100-hour kitchen stint”.

    The publication posted by Vicki Newman quoted a Guinness World Records spokesperson as giving reasons why Hilda Baci was yet to be recognized as the record holder for longest cooking hour by an individual.

    “We are aware of the record attempt and are looking forward to receiving the evidence for our Records Management Team to review, before we can confirm the record is official,” the spokesperson was quoted to have said.

    Hilda began cooking on Thursday and continued through to Monday, reportedly whipping up 55 recipes and more than 100 meals in a whopping 100-hour stint.

    She snapped up the record title for longest cooking marathon (individual) which currently belongs to Lata Tondon (India) with a time of 87 hr 45 min.

    After breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time held by an individual, Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci has set a new record in the category.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Hilda Baci, who aimed to cook for 96 hours, set the new Guinness World Record on Monday after cooking for 100 hours.

    Lata Tondon set a record of 87 hours and 45 minutes in India in 2019, but the Nigerian chef blew past that record at 7:46 am on Monday, May 15, 2023.

    The 27-year-old has been cooking nonstop since 4 pm on Thursday, May 11.

    However, Guinness World Records has delayed recognizing Hilda Baci as the record holder, stressing the need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming the record.

    President Muhammadu Buhari says he shares the joy of celebrations as 27-year-old Gourmet Chef, Hilda Bassey Effiong, aka Hilda Baci, makes history by breaking the world record for longest hours of cooking.

    The President in a statement by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina on Monday in Abuja, noted  the antecedents of the restaurateur, who dazzled at the Jollof Face-off Competition, 2021.

    He lauded her for preparing mouth-watering dishes that won the choice prize, and settled an age-long rivalry with Ghana on which African country should own the trademark for cooking better jollof- rice.

    According to him, Baci’s drive and ambition have brought more interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food, as another cultural icon, with huge tourism benefits, hoping more young people will follow in her footsteps.

    The President thanked the sponsors of Hilda Baci Cook-a-thon, government officials, including Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, celebrities from the bubbling music and movie industry, and fans of the chef for all the support that had brought glory to the country.

    Buhari wished Hilda Baci more grace for a prosperous career.

    JUST IN: Guinness World Records delays recognition of Hilda Baci

    Guinness World Records has acknowledged the “amazing record attempt” by Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci.

    However, the people who monitor world records and put them in a big book once a year are yet to officially confirm the record.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Hilda Baci on Monday broke the previous Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time held by an individual.

    The longest cooking time held by an individual had been 87 hours, 45 minutes, set by an Indian chef known as Lata Tondon.

    After Hilda Baci surpassed the 87 hours, 45 minutes record, most fans and loved ones were expecting the Guinness World Records to announce on their official page that the Nigerian chef is now the new title holder.

    However, Guinness World Records disclosed that they need to review all evidence to show if Hilda Baci complied with all the rules before officially confirming her record.

    TNG reports Hilda Baci started her cooking for the record on Thursday at exactly 4 pm after she turned on her cooker. She is on her way to set a new record notwithstanding.

    VIDEO: Ondo student, Ezekiel becomes Guinness World Records holder

    Master Gbenga Ezekiel, a student of Ijapo High School in Akure, the Ondo State capital has entered the Guinness World Records for the most skips in one minute on one leg.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that 16-year-old Ezekiel, in SSS 1, achieved the feat at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.

    He successfully erased the record of 262 skips in one minute on one leg by Rasel Islam from Bangladesh to set a new Guinness World Record with 265 skips.

    Ezekiel’s feat has been communicated to the national coach of the Nigeria Rope Skipping Federation, Chubuisi Ukandu. It has been updated on the Guinness World Records website as well.

    “The most skips in one minute on one leg is 265 and was achieved by Gbenga Ezekiel (Nigeria), in Akure, Nigeria, on 31 October 2022,” Guinness World Records stated on the website.

    With the feat, Ezekiel becomes the first athlete from Ondo State as well as the first Nigerian and African rope skipper to achieve a Guinness World Records title.

    Akeredolu to host Guinness World Records holder, Ezekiel

    Meanwhile, the Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Bamidele Ologunloluwa has disclosed that the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu will soon host the Akure Guinness World Records holder.

    Ologunloluwa, who visited Ijapo High School, expressed the willingness of the state government to host Gbenga Ezekiel soon.

    The commissioner congratulated the entire management and students of Ijapo High School, Akure, and the family of Gbenga Ezekiel for the great feat.

    Ologunloluwa, who noted that arrangement was on to schedule an official meeting of Mr Governor with the Ijapo High School pupil, charged Ezekiel to remain focused.

    “With this achievement, I will urge you to always listen to your coach in order for you to continue to do well in your sporting career.

    “On behalf of the state government, I want to congratulate you for this achievement and the glory you have brought to this state,” he said.

    While appreciating the Governor of Ondo State through the Commissioner, the Vice Principal of the School, Mr Oki Francis, expressed the joy which the news brought to Ijapo High School.

    Francis promised on behalf of the Principal that Ijapo High School, through the Ministry of Education would always cooperate and collaborate with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in its grassroots sports development programmes.
