Fani-Kayode trying to benefit from Gulak’s assassination in Imo – Uzodimma

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma on Wednesday described as unfortunate former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode’s statement on the murder of ex Political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak.

Uzodimma in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku questioned the character of the former minister who he said wants to make capital of the murder by trying to reap from ugly situation.

“It seems the former Aviation Minister wants to make capital of the unfortunate gruesome murder of Alhaji Gulak who was killed on Sunday morning around Ngor Okpala on his way to the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport.

“But Fani-Kayode in his characteristics manner of always trying to reap from ugly situations has taken to his Facebook wall to make insinuations that suggest he does not want those behind Gulak’s assassination unveiled,” he added.

Fani-Kayode, on Tuesday had asked on his Facebook wall: “Why did the Governor of Imo not provide security for Gulak? Why was Gulak dressed in jeans and a baseball cap as if he was in disguise? I knew Gulak for over ten years and I never saw him wearing jeans and a baseball cap.”

But the governor in response said: “Ordinarily, one would not have bothered responding to the balderdash Fani-Kayode posted on his Facebook wall because Nigerians know the character that is him, but for the unsuspecting members of the public who may not know the reason behind his comments.

“Explanations had been offered that Gulak was not Governor Uzodimma’s guest as of the time he was killed in Imo, but had come to the State on the invitation of the organisers of the 1999 Constitution Review Committee of the Senate as a Consultant.”

Gulak: ACF issues travel advisory to members, warns against further killings of northerners in South East

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has warned against the killing of northerners residing or visiting any part of the southern region, particularly in the southeast zone.

This follows the gruesome killing of a former APC Chieftain Ahmed Gulak.

The national chairman of the ACF and former minister of agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbe, called on security agencies to do everything possible to apprehend those who assassinated mister Gulak and bring them to justice.

In a communique on Monday, Ogbe said the lives of northerners, and indeed of all Nigerians matter, adding that the ACF cannot keep mute when its people, and indeed all Nigerians are murdered in cold blood by misguided and atrocious people.

The ACF also cautioned all northerners traveling to the southeast to weigh the importance of such trips.

In Ogbe’s words: “The ACF was among those who put pressure, on, and ultimately convinced, the AUFCDN to call off the strke. The ACF did that in the spirit of one Nigeria.

“Yesterday, Sunday 30th May, 2021, one of leaders in the north was brutally murdered on the streets of Owerri Imo state by gunmen, most likely of IPOD and Eastern Security Network (ESN), who have been waging a public campaign of killings and other forms of brutalities, to realise their dream country of Biafra.

“The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) hereby issues a very strong advisory to all northerners who may wish to travel to the South East. Northerners to weigh the importance and necessity of such travels. Unless such trips are absolutely necessary and of compelling nature, like matters of life & death, they should NOT be made.

“And where the trip must be undertaken, the traveller should take every security precaution in his or her movements while there, including linking with the security agencies at the place/places to be visited.

“The need to issue this travel advisory has become necessary against the backdrop of history, wherein events such the killings of northern leaders in 1966 triggered the events that led to a civil war that cost the country thousands of lives, and an untold sufferings to millions of innocent people. To be forewarned is to be forearmed, and a stich in time saves nine!

“The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) also wishes to call, with the strongest voice, on the Security Agencies to do everthing possible to apprehend those who assassinated Alh. (Barr) Ahmed Gulak in cold blood and bring them to justice.

“The lives of northerners, and indeed of ALL Nigerians matter, and the ACF cannot keep mute when our people, and indeed all Nigerians, are murdered in cold blood by misguided and atrocious people.

“Unfortunately in the midst of all this serious national crisis it would appear that the entire narrative from the South East has been taken over by IPOB and so-called unknown gunmen to the exclusion of established leaders. This is worrisome.”

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said that his Imo State counterpart, Hope Uzodinma was hasty in pronouncing that the death of APC chieftain, Ahmed Gulak was a political assassination.

In a broadcast on Monday, Governor Uzodinma expressed shock over the killing of the APC stalwart, describing the incident as an unfortunate clear case of political assassination.

“I think that the governor of Imo State, my brother Hope Uzodinma should allow the security agencies to do their proper investigation for it is too early now for him to come out to say it is a political assassination.

“Having done that, it means that you already know those who committed the crime and that will not be fair. When things of this nature happen, allow the security agencies to really go into the matter and then say look, from our investigations, this is what we found out,” Wike stated during a monitored programme on Channels Television.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that gunmen on Sunday killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ahmed Gulak around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Sam Mbakwe Airport road in Owerri, Imo State.

He, however, warned against the politicizing of Gulak’s death, stressing that all extrajudicial killings of citizens in the country must be treated as unacceptable.

“Alhaji Ahmed Gulak was in Imo State for a national assignment. He came to Owerri with the Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendment. “I was getting ready to go to church when the sad news came and I could not attend the service again. It was simply one of the most devastating news I have heard in my life and I am yet to recover from the shock. It remains a puzzle to me why anyone would want to murder him in this gruesome and vicious manner.”

A former President of the Senate, Pius Anyim, has said the murder of Ahmed Gulak put him in distress.

In a statement made available to TheNewsGuru, Anyim noted that Gulak was a man of conviction and courage.

The statement read in part: “30th of May, 2021, is no doubt the darkest Sunday of my life. The news of the gruesome murder of my friend and colleague, Hon. Ahmed Gulak knocked me down into distress, and it took me till this morning of 31st May, 2021, to regain my senses from the shock.

Hon. Ahmed Gulak was my colleague in President Goodluck’s Administration. He was a man of conviction and courage. He was endowed with great intellectual prowess that enabled him to have unusual clarity of thought and expression: a dedicated nationalist and a faithful friend.

Losing Gulak, like other innocent, Nigerians to unknown assailants is the darkest point in the senseless and mindless violence growing in the country and South East. This death is one too many. The security agencies owe humanity the duty to unravel and bring to book those behind this dastardly act. My heart goes to the family of Hon. Gulak”.
