  • Buhari incompetent, dragged Nigeria into dungeon of poverty – Sheikh Gumi

Famous Islamic Scholar in Northern Nigeria, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has said that, the 2019 general elections were the worst and has produced an incompetent government presided over by Muhammadu Buhari.

Sheikh Gumi who accused southern political class for the outcome of the 2019 elections argued that, Buhari’s government has plunged Nigeria into dungeon of poverty.

While arguing that, the southern political class deliberately supported what he described as failure during the 2015 and 2019 elections for their personal gains, the Islamic Scholar said, the elections were beclouded with massive irregularities, which according to him eventually produced gross incompetent government.

Sheikh Gumi stated this while playing host to the President and Founder of Evangelical Bible Outreach Ministries International, Prophet Isah El-Buba, who paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna on Thursday.

According to him, “the 2019 election was the most painful, worst election conducted in the history of Nigeria, which has now divided Nigerians across interests capitalising on their ignorance the real persons behind the faces they thought they know.

“We are having the same vision about getting the right purposeful leadership that is focused and all-embracing like hawk which protects all his children. This is the type of leadership we need.

“Nigeria is now seriously divided along all interests. Class struggle is now the major factor that keep polarising Nigeria. Now what brought the division is abject poverty. The poor and the downtrodden are now angry. All the crimes we have now came as a result of poverty.

“The politicians are necessary evil even though a lot of them are not educated. The crop of political leaders not educated to handle the problem we have in Nigeria today. The idea is very important and not what we see today. There is no point looking at who is doing what but the idea.

“Jonathan and Buhari are not good for Nigeria. When we told Jonathan to do something, he was looking at us from Muslim perspective. People were dying in hospital, kidnapping is the worst thing. I lost a daughter a few months back from this kind of kidnapping. After attaining position all they think is how to get contract and jet out of country.

“I will support you to move round the country because we still have good people all over the country. I’m ready to go with you. But, don’t forget to carry them along. You have to tell them. The last election was the painful election I have seen in Nigeria. In 2015, we realised we were handicapped because Nigerians are ignorant. I expected 2019 to be clean, but, it is the worst election I have seen in Nigeria.

“You can imagine, a government that is fighting corruption saw a governor from the North stalking dollars in his pockets and kept quiet. What example is the North showing? Nigeria needs a new page. People who will unite us. The surest way to move Nigeria forward is through free, fair and credible elections,” he said.

Earlier, Prophet Isah said, he embarked on national tour to see a new Nigeria where justice shall be the basis upon which the country is governed.

2019: Once Obasanjo decides, it is our duty to follow – Gumi

Prominent Islamic scholar, Ahmad Gumi, says once former President Olusegun Obasanjo desires, it is left for Nigerians to follow.
TheNewsGuru, TNG reports that the statement of the Islamic scholar was in response to the endorsement of Atiku Abubakar for 2019 Presidency by Obasanjo.
In an interview with journalists on Sunday, Gumi said: “It’s very unfortunate! With this government, Nigeria is a sinking ship. I, therefore, want Nigerians to embrace forgiveness and to as well, emulate former President Obasanjo. He anointed Jonathan and when he saw that the same Jonathan was going to destroy the nation, he withdrew his support.
“It is the same thing now happening between him and President Buhari who is currently destroying the nation. So will you blame him of being bias? Once Obasanjo decides, it is our duty to follow in order to redeem the country from the paths to destruction.
“We have seen failure otherwise tell me any Nigerian who has not seen that apart from the sycophants. Islam admonishes its adherents to be just even when it is against one’s own self, mother, father, etc. And this is what I see in Obasanjo.
“It is not about his own interest but the nation’s. Managing this country requires intelligence, diligence and respect for the rule of law. In this case, when government does not respect its own laws, they should not expect adherence to the same law by its citizens. This is why the Fulani man will break or take the law into his own hands because government is indifferent to his predicaments.
“How then can you stop him? And instead of government to be remorseful and then find a way of bringing the abnormalities in the land to a stop, it has been abuses. How can you abuse someone who goes on a peace mission? Secondly, what stops me as a Muslim cleric from endorsing whoever I want? Not even Islam.
“In fact, to endorse the right person is a religious duty on me. Neither the Holy Qu ‘ran nor the constitution stops me from doing that. It is both a civic and a religious responsibility. Islam imposes on me the duty of endorsing the right person. I am only conscious of the ignorant and gullible ‘talakawas’ otherwise I will do more than what Obasanjo did,” Gumi said.

  • Why I followed Kukah, Oyedepo to Obasanjo/Atiku's reconciliation meeting – Sheikh Gumi

Popular Kaduna based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi on Saturday explained why he accompanied former vice president and Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate to a reconciliation meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday.

According to him, he was invited because he was an apolitical scholar.

Gumi said part of the criteria the conveners of the meeting looked at was the fact that “he speaks his minds and criticises any political party in government when it does wrong to Nigerians.”

The scholar who spoke in an interview with Premium Times on Saturday did not mention who invited him to the meeting.

‎”When a Muslim hears of anything that will lead to reconciliation between people, it is good for someone to attend if‎ invited.

Whoever does that Allah will reward him. Most especially if leaders are said to reconcile, if we fail to attend, we have betrayed the religion,” he said.

They invited us to the meeting because they said they needed scholars and clergymen who are apolitical, meaning they support no particular political party.

The Peoples Democratic Party members knew that when they were in power and they made mistakes, I criticised them and same with the other party (APC), I criticise them when they err.

So this was part of the reasons I was selected ‎because they said they need people that have no political interests and can tell them the truth.

I’m neither an APC or PDP sympathiser which was why they wanted us to witness the reconciliation,” he said.

Recall that Gumi and two Christian clerics were among those who facilitated the reconciliatory meeting.

The Christian clerics are Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Church and David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church (AKA Winners Chapel).

Asked what the clerics told the two leaders during the meeting, Mr Gumi said they advised them (Atiku and Obasanjo) “to forgive, forget so as to face the future.”

‎”What we told them there was to learn to forgive, forget and to face the future. This was just the message and what we told them. We also said that since we witnessed the reconciliation they need to forge ahead,” he said.

The Islamic scholar also frowned at how some politicians in Nort‎hern Nigeria could not agree to work together for the interest of their states and country.

It’s shame what is happening here with our politicians, where you hear them fighting each other. Look at what is happening in Kano, Zamfara and other states for example.

But these people (Atiku and Obasanjo) saw the window for peace and grabbed it and decided to reconcile their differences.

This is what we need in this country. It is something that others should learn from. Reconciliation is good and the Prophet kicked against whoever is against peaceful reconciliation because such a person has no religion. Only genuine reconciliation between people can lead to development of this country‎.”

  • Why Buhari must be removed – Sheikh Gumi

Why Buhari must be removed – Sheikh Gumi

Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi has called for the removal of President Muhammadu Buhari whom he said had performed worse than the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan in every area.

He said Buhari was just a common man and wondered why people seem to be afraid just because the President had a team of illiterate fanatical followers.

According to Gumi, Buhari was a victim of ignorant, unemployed and senseless followership that stiffle other politicians.

“Definitely, the situation now is worse. The economy is worse. Feeding is a problem; medical care is a problem. There are problems everywhere. Nigeria is down. Nobody is secure. The honest people in government have pulled out.

“Look at what a governor said recently; that he was resigning his position as the Chief Security Officer because he is helpless. Another governor said we have to face the fact that there is a problem in Nigeria. We can’t deny that.

“Buhari is just a common man. He is just an ordinary one man in Nigeria. We cannot be hypocrites, hiding facts because of a man.

“Why are people shivering because of him because he has a team of illiterate, fanatical followers? We can deal with them. They should not hold us to ransom. He is a victim of this ignorant, unemployed and senseless followership.

“When politicians see that, they become frightened. We won’t succumb to that. Let’s do what is right. Put the right Nigerians to lead us, if not, we will destroy ourselves. We cannot be victims to these rascals.

“When you try to correct the president, they come out in their millions trying to abuse you. They don’t even counteract your points with knowledge. If you think abusing us will deter us, you are making a mistake.

“There is problem with and in the government. We have absolute failure in government. People are dying, things are not good. We cannot continue this way.

Asked why he had not visited the Villa to advice the President, the cleric added, “I cannot get to the other room with him because I am not his wife but even somebody who has access to the other room cannot get ideas into his head.

“How do you blame somebody who does not have access to the other room? You cannot change Buhari. He is already cast in a mentality. He believes that most Nigerians, if not all, are rascals, thieves and 419.

“He believes only his own circle are the good people. You cannot get across anything. He has castigated Nigerians in many fora and everybody knows that. He is somebody who always blames others; he does not take responsibility for anything.”
