Why Chelsea signed Lukaku instead of Haaland

Chelsea turned to Romelu Lukaku only after being left stunned by the demands of Erling Haaland, it has been revealed.

BILD says Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola wanted the Norwegian to be given a £820,000-a-week salary by Chelsea.

The Blues were heavily linked with a move for the highly sought after forward this summer but ended up signing Lukaku from Inter Milan for £98million instead.

Haaland’s representative’s demands could have acted as a deterrent with agent Raiola asking for wages of £820,000 per week for his client to join Chelsea.

The report also claims that Raiola wanted a £34m agent’s fee plus a salary for himself in an overall five-year package worth £275m.

Haaland can handle English football – Chelsea chief

Chelsea loan chief Tore Andre Flo has no doubts fellow Norwegian Erling Haaland can handle a move to Stamford Bridge.

Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland has been linked with a move to England and Chelsea are raising money to fund a bid after making the 21-year-old their top target.

“I don’t think he would have much problem adapting to English football,” Flo told bookmakers.co.uk.

“The culture over in England is quite similar and the way of living for someone coming from Norway would be quite easy, or at least it was for me. We all already speak the language quite well, so there should be no problem there.

“Obviously, on the pitch, it can be much tougher because it’s a very tough league, tougher than any other in the world I think.

“That is the biggest challenge for players coming from Scandinavia. But then that’s a challenge for most players coming to the Premier League from other countries.”

Haaland admits disappointment in Sancho move to Man Utd

Erling Haaland admits he’s disappointed Borussia Dortmund sold Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.

Haaland, who is himself being targeted by a host of elite clubs this summer, is disappointed to see Sancho leave.

“Me and Jadon understood each other very well and he’s a top player,’ he told Stadium Astro, when asked which player could fill Sancho’s shoes.

“So of course it’s sad that he goes but that’s how it is and that’s football. You never know what will happen.

“But I think that there’s a lot of other good players that I have a good tone with and it can become even better.

“We have to see who I match the best with.”

Chelsea-linked Haaland drops Dortmund stay hint

Erling Haaland has dropped the strongest hint yet that he is to remain at Borussia Dortmund for the 2021-22 campaign after taking to social media to reveal he has begun pre-season with the club.

The Norway star enjoyed a superb sophomore season with the Bundesliga outfit last term, and amid a summer absence from Euro 2020, speculation has grown rife about his future.

A host of Premier League destinations, headed by Chelsea, have been mooted for the attacker, while Dortmund have been adamant that they will not sell him on – and now, Haaland looks to have indicated that he will be staying put for at least one more year.

The striker took to Twitter to confirm that he had started preparations for next season with Marco Rose’s side, after he was absent for the initial start of club fitness tests on Monday.

“Day one,” the 20-year-old confirmed on social media, before adding: “Ready for the journey.”

Haaland was pictured in his training gear alongside the post, sporting a double thumbs-up gesture at the club’s training ground in Brackel.

  • Tuchel sets Dortmund deadline to accept Haaland offer

Tuchel sets Dortmund deadline to accept Haaland offer

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has pushed Borussia Dortmund and Erling Haaland with a deadline to get a deal done.

Football.London says Chelsea were believed to be one of the frontrunners to sign the 20-year-old with reports claiming the club had already agreed personal terms with the striker.

But Tuchel is eager to get the deal over the line sooner rather than later ahead of the new season.

Tuchel has set a deadline to help put pressure on Dortmund to cash in.

The Bundesliga club are desperate to hold on to their talisman for one more year, especially after letting Jadon Sancho join Manchester United.

It is understood Dortmund have set a £150m price tag on the forward, but the Blues see an offer of £135m more preferable.

Chelsea make first cash-plus-player offer for Haaland

Champions League winner Chelsea have launched a cash-plus-player offer for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Chelsea have made a bid of £60million AND Tammy Abraham for Haaland, reports Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur.

The Blues are one of a number of teams chasing the Borussia Dortmund striker this summer.

They are seeking to move ahead of the pack, by making their move early.

Chelsea have opened the bidding at £60m and Abraham in a player-plus-cash deal.

Dortmund have so far been determined to hold out for a bumper £150m fee this summer.

  • Champions League top scorer agrees terms with Chelsea

Champions League top scorer agrees terms with Chelsea

Borussia Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland, has agreed personal terms with Champions League winner Chelsea in this summer’s transfer window.

This claim was made by respected football expert, Ian McGarry.

Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, McGarry said: “Personal terms for Haaland are signed off.

“It’s just a case of Chelsea agreeing a fee with Dortmund.”

Haaland had drawn the interest of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and other top European clubs in the past few weeks.

The 20-year-old will reportedly be available for £68.9million next summer due to a release clause in his contract.

The Norway international finished the 2020/2021 season as the highest goal scorer in the Champions League with 10 goals.

  • I hope Haaland comes to Barca – Pique

I hope Haaland comes to Barca – Pique

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique would welcome Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland to the Nou Camp.

The Blaugrana’s finances are in a perilous position, but there is still optimism that they could lure a big-name player to the Camp Nou this summer.

“I have no idea, I hope that he comes [to Barcelona],” Pique said during a chat with YouTuber Ibai Llanos.

“The great players should be with us, but that’s a decision for the club to make. They will know.”

The 33-year-old Sergio Aguero has joined Barcelona on a free and Pique has admitted that they have a pre-existing relationship.

“I already got on well with him. For years, we’ve always been connected on social media,” he commented.

“I played the U20 World Cup against him, because we are from the same generation. Leo [Messi] speaks very well of him.”

  • Chelsea owner prefer 23-goal striker to Haaland

Chelsea owner prefer 23-goal striker to Haaland

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is above Erling Haaland on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s transfer wish list, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Blues want a new striker this summer, and the report suggests they are interested in two strikers in particular; Kane and Haaland.

One is arguably the best striker in the Premier League and the other one is one of the most exciting goalscorers in Europe at the moment — neither of these two would be easy to sign or come cheap.

Interestingly, Di Marzio claims that Abramovich considers bringing Haaland to Stamford Bridge would be more complicated than finding a transfer agreement with London rivals over their best player.

This claim contradicts an earlier report from Tuttomercatoweb that claimed Halaand was of Abramovich’s priority target.

But that report came in February, and at that point, Kane did not seem to be anywhere near being available in the transfer market.

Di Marzio further added that Chelsea are ready to spend €70million (£60.4m) for the England international.

Although, that is surprisingly a low budget for such an elite striker who won three Premier League Golden Boots in the last six seasons.

  • Transfer: Haaland next move revealed

    Transfer: Haaland next move revealed

Borussia Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland, wants a move to Chelsea.

Haaland had drawn the interest of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and several top European clubs in the past few weeks.

But according to The Telegraph, Haaland is ‘interested in a switch to Chelsea and is ‘attracted by the prospect’ of joining Thomas Tuchel’s side.

The report added that Chelsea is fully aware of the difficulty of signing Haaland this summer transfer window and are considering the option of securing an agreement that would see the youngster delay his Dortmund exit until next year.

The cost to sign the 20-year-old this summer transfer is expected to be in excess of £150 million.

The Norway international will reportedly be available for £68.9m next summer due to a release clause in his contract.

Haaland finished the 2020/2021 season as the highest goal scorer in the Champions League with ten goals.

Meanwhile, speaking about Haaland’s future at Dortmund, the club’s Sporting Director, Michael Zorc, ruled out the possibility of the forward leaving the Bundesliga giants this summer.

“We are still planning with him,” Zorc told Sky Germany.

“He will play with us in the new season.”
