Five wedding guests who were travelling  to Uyo, Awka Ibom State from Lagos and reported to have gone incommunicado for two days have confirmed their safety.

By Wednesday, a concerned relative contacted Gwamnishu, complaining of having lost contact with the travellers, whose phone lines were switched off after repeated unanswered calls.

However, in a new development, Human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, who brought the incident to the public on Wednesday, shared footage of the five travellers affirming their safety and appreciating the general public for their concerns.

The 41-minute clip, posted late Friday, featured the alleged missing travellers, who individually identified themselves by their names.

One of the travellers said, “My name is Femi Adedeji. Thank you guys. We are back home. We are safe.”

Attached to the footage is a caption by the Activist, titled: ‘The Missing Five Travellers From Lagos To Uyo Where Abducted By Unknown Gunmen’.

“The map took them to Okigwe-Okwelle Road, Imo State where they were abducted by unknown gunmen wearing masks.

“They stated that they were blindfolded and taken into the bush, where they were kept until Thursday evening before being released.

“They claimed that their abductors were targeting uniformed personnel and spared their lives for that reason.

“The families expressed their gratitude to everyone who shared the post.

“I would like to extend my appreciation to the POLICE PRO Anambra State Police Command for his prompt response and public statement regarding this matter.”

The former aide in his resignation letter addressed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and posted on his Facebook page on Friday, cited the government’s alleged inaction on insecurity issues despite his repeated warnings and recommendations.

The activist further expressed disappointment that his efforts to address the pressing concerns of insecurity in the state were not being taken seriously by the administration, adding that the continuous escalation of insecurity and lack of effective solutions rendered him unable to fulfill his duties with integrity and effectiveness.

He appreciated the opportunities he had during his tenure and the relationships he built with colleagues, community members, and the state at large.

The letter says, “I write to formally tender my resignation as Senior Special Assistant on Civil Society and Youth Mobilization from today, 25th April, 2025.

“This decision comes after a considerable reflection and a deep sense of disappointment regarding the ongoing issues of insecurity in our communities, which I have continuously brought to your attention.

“Despite numerous messages, calls , blueprint documents aimed at addressing these pressing concerns, have all been thrown out, I have come to the unfortunate realization that meaningful solutions are not being accepted by your administration.

“As a civil rights leader, I accepted this appointment as a commitment to serve and protect our community.

“However, the continuous escalation of insecurity and the persistent lack of action to provide effective resolutions have rendered me unable to fulfil my duties with the integrity and effectiveness that I believe are essential.

“My commitment to the safety and well-being of our communities remains unwavering, but my agitations is that these crucial issues on insecurity ought to be prioritized. It is my hope that my resignation will drive the urgent need for action and inspire a renewed focus on the safety of our citizens.

“I am grateful for the opportunities I was bestowed during my time and for the relationship I have built with my colleagues and community members and the state at large.

“I genuinely hope for a future where we can work together to create a safer and more secure Delta state for all.

“Thank you for your understanding. I wish the government all the best in its future endeavours and will continue to serve my community in my private capacity.”

If you have a daughter in UNN, call her – Nigerian activist sends strong message to parents

Self-acclaimed human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has asked parents whose daughters are students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to ensure they always talk to them about prioritizing their security.

According to Gwamnishu, the management of the institution is allegedly trying to cover up some of the many incidents that have been occurring in the school.

He further shared a story of how a 17 year old girl identified as Joy Eze, was discovered dead  with her face severely battered and swollen a day after leaving home for lectures.

He also recounted how a male and female student were recently kidnapped in the school.

Harrison said this is not the first case that has been received from the institution.

He said, ‘’If you have a daughter in UNN, call her and hold her ears. A lot of things are happening in that school and the school authority are not doing enough to see how they can manage it. and the ones happening, they cover it up. This girl went for lecture and never returned back.

If you have a child in that school, caution them. Talk to them!”

Erasmus Emeya: Harrison Gwamnishu drags Police FPRO, Adejobi for denying beating murder suspect to death

Self-acclaimed human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has slammed the Nigerian Police force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, over claims that a 33-year-old graduate, identified as Erasmus Emeya, died of asphyxiation and not torture in police custody.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) earlier reports that the deceased mother in a viral video alleged that Erasmus was tortured and killed by officers Nyanya Police Station in Abuja.

However, the force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, refuted the accusation, maintaining that Erasmus was tortured to death.

He further revealed: “The Force Headquarters was involved in the investigation then. Erasmus was a cultist who had been fingered in many crises and alleged killings of some innocent Nigerians in the area.

“He died of asphyxiation, according to the autopsy. Not torture, please.

Adejobi said the autopsy was done in the presence of the doctor(s) of the deceased family.

Reacting, Harrison, via his Instagram page faulted Adejobi’s remark, stressing that Erasmus was never convicted, yet he was being tagged a cultist.

He also said the police failed to investigate the incident to unravel the truth properly.

He wrote, “Sir, with due respect @adejobimuyiwa Why do you Police Image Makers always report what you were told without investigation? How can a suspect die of asphyxiation? That’s suffocation. Did you visit the scene so they show you where he died of asphyxiation ? Autopsy result is what you are coming to quote and also boldly tagging the young man a cultist who has not been convicted and can’t even defend himself now.

“DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS SACK K!LLING? OR I SHOULD EXPLAIN MORE? Did you make findings about his accusers? Did you visit the community where he was said to have killed and rape people?

“SOME OF US HAS SPENT YEARS IN SOLITARY CELLS AND NEVER DID WE DIE OF SUFFOCATION. What kind of cell was the young man locked up?

“Does it mean the mother’s is lying with what she saw? @adejobimuyiwa you are too decent and well educated to be rushing to the media without getting all the facts. PLEASE GET A TEAM OF PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS to assist the Force in unraveling the true situation of things before updating the media.”

Gwamnishu, who condemned the attack, called on the commissioner of women’s affairs in the state to intervene and ensure Onyekpe gets justice for the crime perpetrated against her.

Gwamnishu lamented other cases of women whose families have abandoned, stating that the state Ministry of Women Affairs has been calm and unbothered about these happenings.

Speaking in the video, the activist said, “Some community boys decided to abuse, dehumanise and then banish her from the community. It happened in Delta State. The commissioner for women’s affairs should please take up the case and ensure the woman gets justice.”
