EPL: Tottenham close in on Arsenal as Kane pursues Haaland

Tottenham Hotspurs have reduced the gap between it and leaders Arsenal to just one point but with a match advantage above the Gunners.

Spurs achieved this feat after defeating Everton 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium with goals from Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg settling scores between both sides.

Spurs are yet to drop a point at home in the Premier League or Champions League this season, but not for the first time were far from a slick attacking force under Antonio Conte.

However, Kane’s form is covering over any cracks as the England captain took his tally to 9 goals for Tottenham  in the EPL this season.

Although, Spurs are just one point behind leaders Arsenal they are still lying in third position as they also trail Manchester City on goal difference.

Manchester City have a date with Liverpool on Sunday in what has been dubbed a rivalry contest.

Harry Kane is also closing in on Erling Haaland on scorers chart.

Kane has scored 9 premier league goals for Tottenham this season and now trails the Norwegian with six goals. In Second position is Ivan Toney of Brentford with eight goals.

Toney has been dubbed the best penalty taker after converting 20 of 20 spot kicks for Brentford.

Haaland will hope to increase his tally against Liverpool today at Anfield if the opportunity happens  after having failed to score against them in their last meeting at the community shield in August.

Liverpool have had the upper hand against Manchester City in their five meetings with two wins, two draws and just a win for City.

Ex-Spurs striker Teddy Sheringham sits in third place in the standings with 32 strikes in London derbies throughout his career.

This is not the first time Kane will beat Henry’s record as he moved above the two-time Premier League winner in the all-time goalscoring charts back in March with a brace against Everton.

Arsenal defeated Tottenhan 3-1 at the Emirate on Saturday to consolidate their position on the summit of the log.

What Haaland did to me – Harry Kane

Tottenham and England forward, Harry Kane has revealed what Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland has done to him in the current season.

Kane said Haaland’s form has made him hungrier for goals in the English Premier League.

Haaland moved to the Etihad Stadium from Borussia Dortmund for £51million over the summer.

The Norway International has made his impact felt for Manchester City scoring 11 goals in Seven EPL games for Manchester City so far.

The striker has scored 14 goals in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Kane has scored six for Tottenham so far this season and wants to win the Premier League Golden Boots despite the threat by the free-scoring Norway striker.

EPL: Kane hits 250th goal to take Tottenham top

Harry Kane scored his 250th goal for Tottenham as they moved top of the Premier League with a hard-fought win over Wolves.

The England forward reacted sharply to head in Ivan Perisic’s flick on from a corner to give Spurs their reward for their second-half dominance.

Kane’s effort also saw the hosts become the fifth team to score 1,000 goals at home since the Premier League was formed in 1992.

The goal had been coming with both the 29-year-old and his strike partner Son Heung-min hitting the woodwork as Spurs poured forward to break the deadlock.

The intensity of their football was in complete contrast to the first period, when a Wolves team containing seven Portuguese players – the joint-most from a single foreign nation in a starting XI in the competition – were in the ascendancy.

Bruno Lage’s side restricted the hosts to just one 45th-minute effort and were unfortunate to see record signing Matheus Nunes nod Ruben Neves’ probing pass inches wide of the Spurs goal.

  • Kane makes Premier League history in Brighton win

Kane makes Premier League history in Brighton win

Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane, has scored more away goals than any other player in Premier League history, as he was on the scoresheet on Wednesday night and secured a 2-0 win against Brighton at the AMEX Stadium.

Kane put his name on the Premier League history after scoring his 95th away goal, higher than Wayne Rooney (94) Alan Shearer (87) and Frank Lampard (85).

The English professional, who captains the England national team, had scored six goals in his previous five games heading into the clash, with his penalty against United taking him to level with Lampard in the Premier League’s all-time top-scorers charts.

It was the Kane, along with Heung-Min Son, that tottenham’s coach, Antonio Conte, tasked with delivering Champions League football for the north London club.

“If you want to have a hope to fight until the end for this type of target, this is the moment I have to ask a lot to the big players,” he told his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“To Harry, Hugo [Lloris] and Sonny. These players have to lead the situation to keep us until the end there.

“‘At the moment, experience is very important. We don’t have a lot in this team and it’s right to ask the players with experience and big talent to give everything.

“They’re giving everything but 100 per cent is not enough. We need to ask 120, 130 percent to have this type of target. It will be very important to have people with great talent to lead us until the end and to try to be very close to reach this target,” Conte said.

Kane scored after Cristian Romero had put the visitors ahead in the first half, fortuitously deflecting Dejan Kulusevski’s shot past Robert Sanchez.

He got the second half off to the perfect start.

Following a Brighton corner, Rodrigo Bentancur was able to thread the ball through to the England captain who made no mistake, slotting past Sanchez at his near post. But what followed in the celebrations was certainly noteworthy.

As Kane ran towards the Tottenham fans, an object appeared to be tossed into the air in celebrations from the masses behind the goal.

As the camera focused on the Spurs striker, his eyes could be seen tracking what turned out to be a bottle of Coca-Cola.
In a style similar to his second goal against Everton, Kane hit the bottle on the volley with his left foot.

The perfect connection sent the soft drink spiraling away in a cloud of foaming liquid, providing some excellent pictures.

Kane nets winner as Tottenham edge Manchester City in five-goal thriller

Harry Kane scored a last-minute winner as Tottenham Hotspur ended their dismal English Premier League form with a 3-2 away win over Manchester City in a pulsating encounter on Saturday.

Spurs’ Dejan Kulusevski opened the scoring inside five minutes at the Etihad Stadium with his first goal for the club, but City’s Ilkay Gundogan struck back in the 33rd minute to level the scores.

Spurs re-took the lead through Kane ahead of the hour mark when he guided a whipped cross from Son Heung-min into the far top corner.

The England striker looked to have added another minutes later but the attempt was ruled out for offside.

City pressed to find another equaliser and looked to have done so when Cristian Romero made a handball in the box, granting City a stoppage-time penalty.

Riyad Mahrez stepped up and converted from the spot, but Spurs took the lead for the third time moments later as Kane scored to secure all three points.

Spurs had lost their previous three matches in the Premier League before Saturday’s narrow victory over leaders City, who are six points ahead of second-place Liverpool with one more game played.

Kulusevski sprung an early surprise when he netted his first goal since joining the club in the final days of the January transfer window.

The Sweden winger looked sharp on the counter-attack and calmly slotted home into an empty net following a selfless layoff from Son.

Gundogan struck back for City after a period of sustained pressure when he took advantage after opposing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris parried a cross onto the floor in front of him, leaving Gundogan with a comfortable finish to level the scores.

Kane, who attempted to push through a move to City last summer, then put Spurs ahead again in the 59th minute with a well-taken finish to convert a whipped cross from Son.

The Spurs striker then had a glaring chance to extend Spurs’ lead minutes later when he was sent through one-on-one with goalkeeper Ederson, but he was denied.

The action-packed affair continued as Gundogan found himself back in the heart of the action with another curled effort into the far top corner in the 65th minute, forcing a spectacular diving save from Lloris.

However, Kane remained potent at the other end and even had the ball in the back of the net once again.

This was after he took advantage of a deflected Kulusevski shot, but it was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for an offside in the build-up.

City were granted a lifeline as the game headed into stoppage time when Romero slide to defend a cross into the Spurs 18-yard box, but handled the ball with his raised arm.

This caused referee Anthony Taylor to check the on-field monitor and award a penalty, which Mahrez converted.

But there was still time for Kane to deliver a hammer blow, leaping onto a floated cross from Kulusevski to nod a 95th-minute winner.

Spurs moved up to seventh, four points behind fourth-place Manchester United, with two games in hand, as they continue their bid for Champions League qualification.

  • Harry Kane makes final decision on Tottenham exit talks

Harry Kane makes final decision on Tottenham exit talks

Harry Kane says he is “staying at Tottenham this summer” after accepting he will not be joining Manchester City this season.

The England captain, who is the club’s second highest all-time goalscorer, was desperate to sign for the English Premier League (EPL) champions in order to win silverware.

Pep Guardiola has also publicly said Manchester City were interested in signing him.

However, Spurs’ stance was always that the 28-year-old was not for sale and Manchester City failed to put in a bid that tempted them to change their mind.

And now, with less than a week of the summer transfer window remaining, Kane has accepted that he will not be leaving.

The England captain made his first appearance of the season against Wolves on Sunday, where he was given a hero’s welcome by the fans.

He tweeted: “It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I’ve had in the last few weeks.

“I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100 per cent focused on helping the team achieve success.”

Kane is halfway through a six-year deal he signed in 2018 and, without a release clause, Spurs always held the power.

The striker believed he had an agreement with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that he would be sold this summer.

But Spurs deny that ever existed and were not prepared to sell their star player.

Kane made it clear he wanted to be sold at the back end of last term in order to win silverware.

He strongly hinted at Manchester City being the club he wanted to join after naming Kevin De Bruyne as his ideal team-mate.

Manchester City made an opening bid which totaled 100 million pounds (137 million dollars) while Kane was on England duty at the European Championships.

But this was swiftly rejected by Spurs.

Once the Euros were over, Kane’s camp upped the ante in a bid to force a move through.

This was through a report, coming from a journalist who was a guest at Kane’s brother’s wedding, saying that a 160-million-pound deal had been agreed with Manchester City.

    Both clubs refuted that though.

Kane consequently did not report for pre-season on Aug. 2 and it later emerged he was still on holiday in the Bahamas.

Upon his late return he was forced to self-isolate at the club’s training ground, meaning he did not have the fitness required to feature in Spurs’ opening two games.

These were a Premier League win over Manchester City and a Europa Conference League tie.

He eventually made his return as a substitute against Wolves last Sunday and it has now emerged that he will be staying at the club beyond next Tuesday’s deadline.

I have never refused to train, Harry Kane speaks out

Tottenham striker Harry Kane says he has “never refused to train” and will return to the club on Saturday as planned.

Kane, who has been on an extended holiday after Euro 2020, did not turn up as scheduled on Monday for his coronavirus tests.

Manchester City are keen to sign the England captain.

The 28-year-old believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with chairman Daniel Levy to leave Spurs this summer.

He says that he has been “hurt” by comments this week that questioned his professionalism.

“While I won’t go into the specifics of the situation, I want to clarify that I would never, and have never, refused to train. I will be returning to the club tomorrow as planned,” he wrote on Twitter.

“I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise the relationship I have with the fans who have given me such unwavering support during my time with the club. This has always been the case as it is today.”

Tottenham: Harry Kane goes AWOL until transfer demand accepted

Harry Kane is prepared to stay away from Tottenham preseason training until his transfer demand is accepted.

The Athletic reports he has adopted the stance that he won’t train again.

The striker, 28, will apparently refuse to train or play again unless a move is sanctioned.

Tottenham officials are said to be furious with Kane, and apparently have frustrations with him stemming from last year.

Kane wanted to leave last summer when Manchester City first came calling for his signature.

Various reports claim the centre-forward believes he has made a gentleman’s agreement with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy allowing him to leave this summer if things on the pitch didn’t improve.

  • I’ve proved people wrong my whole career – Kane

I’ve proved people wrong my whole career – Kane

Tottenham striker Harry Kane says he never lost confidence during his goal drought at Euro 2020.

The striker went goalless in England’s three group stage games, but has since scored three times in the round of 16 and quarter-finals.

“I have kind of had to do that my whole career, since I was a kid,” Kane told BBC Radio 5 Live of proving people wrong.

“I’ve had to prove people wrong to get to where I am now. I have full belief in who I am as a player and what I can do on the pitch, what I do to help the team.

“It’s not so much about proving other people wrong. It’s about proving to myself again that I am as good as I can be, I can score at any level, I’ve done it at any stage.

“When you go three or four games without scoring, you want to score and put that to bed and at a major tournament it gets heightened even more. But the fact that I have so much self-belief in myself and my team, I don’t really let that stuff affect me.

“Of course when you score in a big game, it is natural the emotions come out and you feel free and a lot of people then say it kick-starts you to score a couple in the quarter-final.

“Whether I score or don’t score I always feel I am ready for the next opportunity. It’s great that I am scoring now and obviously a big semi-final to come but I’ll be the same player if I scored or didn’t score.
