I’m better now than 2018 World Cup – Harry Kane

Tottenham striker and England captain Harry Kane believes he is a better player since the 2018 World Cup.

Kane won the Golden Boot at that tournament as England reached the semi finals.

As they prepare for their second Euro 2020 group game against Scotland, after defeating Croatia 1-0 in the opener, Kane spoke about his own progress as a player in the past three years.

“I’ve become a better player and I’ll hopefully continue to do that over the next three years as well,” he told reporters.

“I’ve got a lot more experience, my game understanding is a lot better. I feel like I’ve got better at knowing when to drop deep and when to run in behind, using that to my advantage.

“We all have to believe we can win it. That’s the reason we’re in this competition, to try to win it. That’s the only way you’re going to get far in tournaments. Of course we believe we can win it.”

Kane: Mourinho wanted us to be men, leaders – some couldn’t do that

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has questioned the maturity of his teammates in their approach to former manager Jose Mourinho.

Kane admits Mourinho expected his players to be “professional” and “be men”, demands which some struggled to handle.

Discussing Mourinho and former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, Kane told The Overlap YouTube channel: “It was pretty much completely different if I’m honest.

“Just in the style of play, the way they set up, tactical training we would do.

“Obviously Mauricio we do a lot of gym work, it was a lot gym base whereas Jose wasn’t so much into that but Jose obviously expected us to be men and act like men on the pitch, have leaders on the pitch.

“To be honest, that’s probably where it didn’t quite work out with Jose we didn’t quite have enough leadership that we needed at the time. Obviously the club was in a difficult stage, with Mauricio getting sacked it’s never easy a new manager coming in.

  • Levy and I need to have honest conversation – Harry Kane

Levy and I need to have honest conversation – Harry Kane

Tottenham striker Harry Kane says he hopes to have “a good, honest conversation” with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy about his future.

Reports this week claim England captain Kane, 27, has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in place to leave the club – and has even formally asked to go.

Speaking on The Overlap with Gary Neville, Kane said he would not want to end his career with “any regrets”.

“There’s definitely a conversation to be had with the club,” said Kane.

“It’s a moment in my career where I have to kind of reflect and see where I’m at and have a good, honest conversation with the chairman.

“As players you don’t know what the chairman is thinking. He might want to sell me. He might be thinking, ‘If I could get £100m then why not?’ I’m not going to be worth that for the next two or three years.”

Kane, who signed a six-year deal with the club that runs until 2024, remains without a trophy after Spurs lost April’s Carabao Cup final to Manchester City.

Defeat by Aston Villa on Wednesday means Tottenham go into the Premier League’s final day in seventh place – which would give them a place in the new Europa Conference League play-off round.

He added: “I’m sure that [Levy] will want to set out the plan of where he sees it but ultimately it’s going to be down to me and how I feel and what’s going to be the best for me and my career at this moment in time.

“I don’t want to have come to the end of my career and have any regrets. I want to be the best that I can be. I’ve said before, I’d never say that I’d stay at Spurs for the rest of my career [and] I’d never say that I would leave Spurs.”

Manchester United and City are watching developments around Kane closely.

  • Premier League club slap £175M price-tag on striker

Premier League club slap £175M price-tag on striker

Premier League club Tottenham are set to keep hold of Harry Kane over the summer.

The Sun says Kane is primed to stay at Tottenham this summer with the club reportedly refusing to sell him to a Premier League rival while demanding an eye-watering £175million from foreign clubs.

The England star, 27, was tipped for a move away from Spurs this summer and had drawn interest from Manchester City, United and Real Madrid.

However, Tottenham will block Kane from joining another Premier League club while Madrid and any other potential suitor are being told they’ll need to stump up £175m to sign their star striker.

Kane is loyal to his boyhood club but realises he might have to leave them in order to win the trophies his talent deserves, having so far failed to win a single piece of silverware in his career.

He still has three years left on the £200,000-a-week bumped contract he signed back in the summer of 2018.

Tottenham do not want to lose Kane, who is their top scorer this season with 22 goals and 15 assists in all competitions, and will dig their heels in a bid to make sure he stays at the club for next season.

  • Harry Kane made wrong decision leaving Arsenal – Wenger

Harry Kane made wrong decision leaving Arsenal – Wenger

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Harry Kane should never have left the club for Tottenham.

Kane’s time at Highbury was made famous after photos emerged of him in an Arsenal top celebrating the 2004 Invincibles title win.

But after Arsenal legend Liam Brady deemed him ‘a bit chubby’ and ‘not very athletic’, the striker was released after just one season in the academy.

Wenger, with a wry smile, told BT Sport: “Well, that’s where he made the wrong decision.

“I know about this story but he was very young.

“He was nine-years-old, something like that, and his father moved… I don’t know exactly what happened.

  • Tottenham fullback: Why Harry Kane better than Benzema

Tottenham fullback: Why Harry Kane better than Benzema

Tottenham fullback Sergio Reguilon has likened teammate Harry Kane to Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

Reguilon left Real Madrid last summer for Spurs.

He told Soccer AM: “Harry, I’ve never seen anything like it. Karim is similar to him, but Harry has scored more goals than Karim, he is an incredible, incredible player.

“They are very similar because they are strikers and play for the team, but how many assists does Harry have for (Heung-min) Son, eight I think?

“I do not know, but Harry also plays for the team.”

  • I’d only swap Dybala for Harry Kane – Capello

I’d only swap Dybala for Harry Kane – Capello

Former Juventus coach Fabio Capello says they must keep hold of Paulo Dybala.

With new contract talks dragging on and Dybala struggling for form, the Argentine has been linked with a big sale this season.

But Capello told Gazzetta dello Sport: “The explanation is Covid. The virus leaves residues especially for someone like Dybala who needs to be at the top to express himself at his best.

“To find him he has to get back to 100% physically. Dybala looks like (Dejan) Savicevic even if the Argentine is better at finishing and less at assisting his teammates.

“If I had to change him with someone, who would I change him with? For an answer, I look to England and think of (Tottenham striker) Harry Kane.”

  • Europa: Harry Kane scores 200th Tottenham goal

Europa: Harry Kane scores 200th Tottenham goal

Harry Kane marked his 300th appearance for Tottenham with his 200th goal as Jose Mourinho’s side dominated a Europa League mismatch in Bulgaria.

Kane, 27, long-since cemented his place in the Spurs history books but few could have predicted his prodigious goalscoring rate when he came into the first team seven years ago.

He could, and should, have already scored twice when he headed in a Lucas Moura corner to put Mourinho’s side ahead against Ludogorets.

Kane then set up Moura for Spurs’ second before being replaced at the interval as the Premier League side utterly dominated the multiple Bulgarian champions.

Mourinho was furious last week with his side’s insipid display in Antwerp and was rewarded with a controlled, ruthless first-half performance, but the hosts were able to reply early in the second half through Claudiu Keseru.

That was an anomaly though, as Giovani lo Celso’s tap-in secured a routine victory that puts Spurs back in contention in Group J.

  • Tottenham’s Harry Kane to sponsor Leyton Orient’s shirt next season

Tottenham Hotspur striker and captain Harry Kane will sponsor Leyton Orient’s shirt next season with the space on the front to be given to charitable causes, the League Two (fourth tier) club and the English striker confirmed on Thursday.

The club said the home shirt will display a thank you message to healthcare workers on the frontline battling the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, while the away and third kits will carry logos of a children’s hospice and a mental health charity.

“It is with great pleasure to announce that Harry Kane has taken our front of shirt sponsorship for the 2020-21 season,” Orient said in a statement.

“With approval given from the Premier League, FA and EFL, a first of its kind deal have been agreed which the club are extremely proud of.”

Kane, who made his senior debut with Orient in 2011 when he was on loan for half a season, said he was “proud” to support the club and the causes involved.

“I was born and brought up only at a couple of miles from the stadium and I’m really happy to have the opportunity to give back to the club that gave me my first professional start,” Kane said.

“This also gives me a platform to be able to say a big thank you to the many frontline heroes and charities out there who provide care and support during these challenging times.”

Kane was recovering from a hamstring injury that required surgery before the Premier League was suspended in March due to the pandemic.

The league, which has nine rounds remaining, is looking to restart the season in June.

  • Tottenham places huge price tag on Kane

Tottenham Hotspur has set a price tag for their captain and striker Harry Kane.

Kane has drawn interest from Manchester United in the past few weeks.

The player has been out of action since January with a hamstring injury, as Tottenham exited all competitions and are in danger of missing out on next season’s Champions League.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham values Kane at £200million.

The England international has scored 181 goals in 278 appearances for Spurs.

Kane admitted last week that he is frustrated at not winning silverwares at Spurs, adding that he’s ready to leave if they do not make progress.

The 26-year-old said: “I am an ambitious player. I want to improve, and I want to get better. I want to become one of the top players in the world.

“It all depends on what happens as a team and how we progress as a team.”
