  • ‘Harry Kane stupid not to leave Tottenham’

Harry Kane would be “stupid” not to leave Tottenham if Liverpool or Manchester City came in for the England striker, says Chris Sutton.

Kane, 26, said he could leave if Spurs do not progress because he wants to win trophies “sooner rather than later”.

“I can understand the predicament he is in,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“But if he wants to win the Premier League, then he should move on and go to a club who have better chance of winning it than Spurs do.”

Kane, who is under contract until 2024, has yet to win any silverware at Tottenham, whose last trophy was the 2008 League Cup.

They have been knocked out of all cup competitions this season and were eighth in the Premier League when football was suspended.

“We all understand he wants to win something. So if he wants to win something, I wouldn’t begrudge him a move,” said former Chelsea and Celtic striker Sutton.

“Spurs are a brilliant club, but at this moment in time they are way behind the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

“If one of those clubs came in for him, if you were Harry Kane you would be be stupid not to go.”

Ex-England striker Ian Wright, speaking alongside Sutton on Monday Night Club, expects Kane to stay at Tottenham for at least one more year under manager Jose Mourinho, who only joined the club in November.

“Now they have a manager who is a notorious winner of trophies,” said Wright.

“Kane did say ‘next year will be the first chance the gaffer will have to bed his values into the team’.

“That says to me he is somebody who is already thinking of next year, so he’s not going anywhere.

“I’d give this manager a chance with his pre-season, do next season and see where it goes. Because from when he made his debut up to now, I think he has given them everything he can.

“If nothing happens and Harry Kane decides to leave then you have you have to say ‘well, he’s under Mourinho, nothing has changed’. He wants to win medals.

“You can’t have that kind of ability, that kind of goalscorer who is able to win matches, and not win anything. You can’t.”

  • Harry Kane ‘frustrated’, ready to quit Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur captain, Harry Kane, has admitted he is frustrated at not winning trophies with the club and is ready to leave if they don’t make progress.

Kane has been out since January with a hamstring injury, as Spurs exited all competitions and are in danger of missing out on the Champions League.

In an interview with Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp, the England striker said he was determined to be one of the best players in the world.

When asked if he would leave Tottenham, he replied: “It’s one of those things, I couldn’t say yes, I couldn’t say no. I love Spurs, I’ll always love Spurs.

“I’m an ambitious player, I want to improve, I want to get better, I want to become one of the top, top players.

“It all depends on what happens as a team and how we progress as a team. So it’s not a definite I’m going to stay there forever – but it’s not a no either.”

  • Harry Kane recovering ahead of schedule – Mourinho

Striker Harry Kane is ahead of schedule in his recovery from surgery on his hamstring, according to Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.

The Spurs boss had initially hoped the 26-year-old England captain would return for a couple of games before the end of the season.

On Friday, he said: “I would say he is a little bit ahead.

“It gives me a hope that instead of one or two matches, it’s three, four, five.”

Kane had surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his hamstring, an injury he sustained in defeat by Southampton on New Year’s Day. He is expected to return to training in April, two months before Euro 2020 begins.

Mourinho was also hopeful of seeing the injured Son Heung-min return before the summer.

The South Korea international had surgery on a broken arm suffered in a 3-2 win against Aston Villa earlier this month, with the club declaring he would be sidelined for a “number of weeks”.

Mourinho said: “I cannot imagine when, but there is a good possibility before the end of the season we have Sonny and Harry playing together.”

Tottenham cannot play normally without Kane – Mourinho

No player can take the injured Harry Kane’s place and Tottenham “cannot play like we normally play” without him, says manager Jose Mourinho.

He is ruled out until April with a hamstring injury that requires surgery.

England captain Kane has scored 27 goals in 31 appearances for club and country this season.

“If I speak too much about Harry, I get a bit depressed and then you are going to say ‘he is miserable’,” Mourinho said.

“It’s better to talk about things that make me laugh.”

Tottenham host Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday.

Kane suffered the injury during Tottenham’s defeat at Southampton on New Year’s Day and will not return to training until April.

“You know that we cannot play like we normally play when Harry Kane is in the team,” Mourinho said.

“There’s no player who can replace Harry Kane.”

EPL: Mourinho suffers huge injury blow

Tottenham have confirmed Harry Kane will be sidelined until April and will undergo surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hamstring.

“Following ongoing assessment by our medical staff over the past week, we can confirm that Harry Kane will undergo surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hamstring,” said a club statement on Thursday.

“The striker suffered the injury during our Premier League fixture against Southampton last week and specialists have advised surgery after further review of the injury.

“The decision to undergo surgery is not expected to impact the time-frame that the England captain will be sidelined, with the expectation that he will return to training in April.”

  • Kane hits 93rd minute wonder-goal as Spurs sink Juventus

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane scored what he called “one of the best goals” of his career to beat Italian champions Juventus 3-2 in an enthralling International Champions Cup contest in Singapore on Sunday.
Kane capitalised after team mate Lucas Moura nicked the ball deep into injury time.
The striker thumps his effort from the halfway line high into the steamy night and over the head of Juventus’ back-pedalling goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
His goal completed a comeback after Cristiano Ronaldo put Juventus 2-1 in front.
“”It is probably one of the best goals of my career.
“”I could see in parts of the game the keeper was off the line.
“I thought if I get a chance to shoot, I’ll shoot and thankfully it went in,” Kane said.
Spurs midfielder Erik Lamela scored the only goal of the first half, striking from close range in the 31st minute after Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon palmed a shot from teenage striker Troy Parrott.
In a livelier second half, Juventus substitute Gonzalo Higuain equalised in the 56th minute after some neat interplay on the edge of the box gave him the space to place it low into the right corner.
    Then up stepped crowd-favourite Ronaldo.
Defender Mattia De Sciglio cut the ball back to the Portuguese who drilled it across the keeper in his last touch before he was replaced.
However, Juventus’ lead did not last long.
In the 65th minute, Moura got on the end of a pinpoint pass from Tanguy Ndombele, the French midfielder who joined Spurs for a club record fee earlier this month.
In the closing stages, Higuain had a decent chance to break the deadlock.
Nevertheless, it was Kane’s wonder-goal – which came after Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot lost the ball – which sealed the win in the dying seconds.
““It was a great goal. Unbelievable from Harry. It is good for him to set off pre-season with scoring,” Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino said.
The International Champions Cup features 12 teams playing friendly matches in venues in North America, Europe and Asia.

  • Kane could be out for rest of season – Pochettino

Kane could be out for rest of season – Pochettino

Tottenham striker Harry Kane could miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury, says manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Kane, 25, will have an MRI scan on Wednesday after hobbling off during Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

The England captain was seen leaving the stadium on crutches, with a protective boot on his left ankle.

“It’s a worry for us,” said Pochettino.

“We are going to miss him – maybe for the rest of the season. We hope it is not a big issue but there is not to much time to recover. He twisted his ankle so we will see how it reacts in a few hours.”

Kane had slipped as he tried to block Fabian Delph’s clearance on the right touchline in the second half and was substituted immediately.

He was ruled out for almost two months in January when he damaged ligaments in the same ankle during their 1-0 Premier League home defeat by Manchester United.

In addition, he missed a month of last season with a similar injury to the right ankle, and endured separate absences of six and four weeks during the 2016-17 campaign.

“We need to check but it looks like it is the same ankle and similar injury,” said Pochettino. “It is very sad and very disappointing.”

  • UCL: Kane scores in Dortmund as Spurs stroll into last eight

UCL: Kane scores in Dortmund as Spurs stroll into last eight

Tottenham Hotspur beat hosts Borussia Dortmund 1-0 on Tuesday thanks to a Harry Kane winner, to stroll into the Champions League quarter-finals.

It was only the English club’s second time of reaching the quarter-finals of the elite European club competition in their history with a 4-0 aggregate victory.

Kane, who missed the first leg through injury, fired in the winner shortly after the restart to silence a fiery home crowd.

The goal left Dortmund needing five goals after having lost 3-0 in London last month.

The Germans, who have seen their seven-point lead in the league evaporate in recent weeks and are also out of the German Cup, have never overturned a 3-0 first leg deficit in the competition.

Despite a valiant effort in the first half, they were unable to score.

For Tottenham, whose only other quarter-final appearance came in the 2010/11 season, it turned out to be an easier task than expected.

  • Nations League: Harry Kane sends England to finals

Harry Kane sealed a stunning late comeback as England booked their place in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals with a 2-1 victory over Croatia at Wembley.

Two goals in the final 12 minutes from Jesse Lingard (78) and captain Kane (85) sparked scenes of wild celebrations as Gareth Southgate’s men relegated their World Cup semi-final conquerors.

England were staring relegation in the face themselves when Andrej Kramaric opened the scoring to punish the Three Lions for a host of missed first-half chances.

But a dramatic late turnaround sees England finish ahead of Spain at the top of Group A4, with a place in the inaugural Nations League finals secured.

  • I want to break Messi's records – Harry Kane

Tottenham striker Harry Kane hopes he can one day emulate, and perhaps break, the goalscoring records of Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

Kane, 25, will line up against Messi on Wednesday when Spurs host Barcelona at Wembley in Group B of the Champions League.
“He’s definitely set the standard for the rest of us and it motivates me to get even better,” Kane said.
“Hopefully one day I can score as many, if not more, than he has.”
England captain Kane has been the Premier League’s top scorer for two of the past three seasons and won the Golden Boot at the World Cup in Russia.
His two goals against Huddersfield last weekend put him on 145 for Tottenham, taking him past Jermain Defoe and into fifth place on the club’s top scorers list.
However, he is a long way behind Argentine Messi, who has scored 560 goals in 646 games for Barcelona in all competitions, with 103 of those coming in the Champions League.
“Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have gone above the norm, when they’re scoring 50 or 60 goals a season,” said Kane.
“As players you want to play against the best in the world and Messi is certainly that. We will do our best to stop him.”
Argentina’s Messi currently holds multiple scoring records, including the most goals in a calendar year. He scored 91 goals in 69 games for club and country in 2012.
