Hazard can no longer dribble 5 to 6 players – Benteke

Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke says Eden Hazard retains the support of his Belgium teammates.

Hazard will miss Belgium’s clash with Wales after helping his country qualify for the World Cup with victory over Estonia.

He is now back with Real Madrid and Benteke says the decision is one Belgium’s players understands.

He said: “Today Eden Hazard is a different player because he has a history of injuries. He learns things and tries to avoid contact, even if his game requires it.

“But he shows intelligence in what he can do better. He is still a human being who tries to avoid take hits because there are pains that remain and unconsciously, you think about it.

“The Eden that dribbled five or six men is over. But the fact that he no longer does it does not mean that it will not be decisive.”

  • Eden Hazard architect of his career problem – Belgium legend

Eden Hazard architect of his career problem – Belgium legend

Belgium legend, Marc Desgryse, has revealed why Eden Hazard failed at Real Madrid.

He said that the Belgium national team captain underestimated his big-money transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid.

Hazard departed Stamford Bridge for the Santiago Bernabeu in 2019 after seven successful years in west London.

But his Real Madrid career has so far been blighted by injuries and poor form, with the winger currently on a 10-match goalless streak for the LaLiga giants.

Desgryse believes that Hazard was the architect of his own problems majorly because the 30-year-old turned up overweight to his first ever training session at Real Madrid.

“Incomprehensible. I still don’t understand it today. That he came to the first training with 7 kilos overweight,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.

“It doesn’t matter if they were five. How do you do that? Gain five kilos in three weeks. It’s hard to understand that you start preparing like this.

“Then he started training at the same pace as the other players, but that is not possible. First you have to get rid of those extra kilos.

“As a result, he immediately suffered a muscle injury. And then he rejoined without having laid the foundations of a good season.

    “He seriously underestimated Real Madrid.”

Hazard’s form and fitness have nose-dived since quitting Chelsea for Real Madrid two years ago.

But asked to name his best top-flight rival, Alexander-Arnold had no doubts.

The England star, 23, said: “Eden Hazard, yeah. The best by probably a little bit of a distance.

“Maybe De Bruyne, but directly against an opponent would have to be Hazard.

“Yeah – speed, agility, his awareness, his intelligence on and off the ball is unreal.”

Hazard would love playing for Howe at Newcastle – Wilshere

Former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere is convinced Real Madrid attacker Eden Hazard would be happy to join Newcastle United.

Wilshere worked with new Toon manager Eddie Howe during his season-long loan spell at Bournemouth five years ago.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “He [Howe] was great with me, because it was tough for me there because I was coming from a big club [Arsenal].

“I stepped into a group that had been together since they were in League One, they were all friends.

“They were all great with me, but Eddie made sure they were. He was great with me.

“Eden Hazard is another level, but I think Eden would love playing for a manager like Eddie Howe [at Newcastle]. He’s the type of manager you want to play for.”

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti insists he’d never keep a player against his will.

Asked specifically about whether he would allow a player who is not performing at their best, such as Eden Hazard, to leave if he asked, the Italian was firm.

“I have never in my coaching career forced a player who wants to leave to stay,” Ancelotti said during Friday’s pre-match press conference.

“In my personal opinion, there is no question about it. If a player wants to leave, he is going to leave.

“There is not much doubt about this…”

The Belgian has struggled to find his feet at Real after a series of injury issues since his move from the Blues in 2019.

Hazard is a Chelsea legend, and the fans would welcome him back to Stamford Bridge with open arms.

According to El Nacional, £34 million would be Chelsea’s limit to try and sign the 30-year-old Belgian, either in the winter or summer transfer windows.

Whether Hazard is eager to return, given the quality of Chelsea’s first team options in attacking positions, is another matter.

Los Blancos are also keen to take advantage of Hazard’s potential Chelsea return by nabbing Reece James, 21.

But they are likely to have to cough up a significant amount of cash in addition to Hazard if they stand any chance of sealing a deal.

Carlo Ancelotti is said to be a huge fan of the England star.
