    The 17th edition of the awards ceremony took place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.

    The event featured prominent Nigerians including the Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo Olu.

    Others present at the award ceremony include Tanzanian singer Juma Jux and his wife Priscilla, actress Nancy Isime, Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan (BamBam), socialite Cubana Chief Priest, and Big Brother Naija 2021 winner White Money.

  • Headies Awards : BNXN wins next rated category

    Headies Awards : BNXN wins next rated category

    Singer Daniel Benson, popularly known as  Buju BNXN, has won the next-rated category at the Headies Music Awards.

    BNXN goes home with a 2022 Bentley Bentayga for winning the next rated category.

    The ‘Outside’ crooner also dedicated the award to his late mother, who he said died of cancer.

    He was nominated alongside Ayra Starr, Zinoleesky, Lojay, and Ruger.

    Recall that portable was initially nominated in the category but was later disqualified for threatening the nominees in all the categories he got nominated for.

    Omah Lay won the category last year ahead of Tems, Oxlade, and Bella Shmurda.

    The 2022 Headies Awards was held  in Atlanta in the  United States of America.

    This is the first time that the Music Awards will be held outside the country.

    Controversial artiste and rave of the moment,  Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as  Portable, has reacted to his disqualification from the Headies Awards.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Headies Awards disqualified Portable for threatening to kill his co-nominees.

    A few months back Portable had threatened to kill or cause harm to the other nominees in the same categories of awards he was nominated for if he does not emerge the winner.

    The singer was nominated in two categories  ‘Rookie of the Year and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’

    In a statement from The Headies secretariat, the organizers assured the Nigerian music audience of its commitment to promoting talents and individuals of exemplary character in the best interest of society.

    The statement partly reads:

    “We regret to announce that following numerous indicting statements made by Mr. Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as “Portable”, and the incessant negative attention that Mr. Okikiola has garnered from the Nigeria Police and the general public in recent times, the organizers of the Headies have resolved to disqualify Mr. Okikiola as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards,” the statement reads.

    It also cited a series of misdemeanors via Portable’s social media platforms, adding that the singer is the subject of an investigation relating to criminal activities.

    Reacting to the disqualification, Portable in an Instagram video said he does not regret his action.

    “I do music for a living and I make more money from it, I go by the name portable, I thank God for my life, I got talent, I got God, I got money, I got Fame, I got grace, I got wife, I got children, God bless my family, I got motor, I got a house, I’m blessed, Akoi grace, Akoi blessing mercy dey follow me, I never regret my actions,” he said with his wife by his side.

    Recall that Portable had initially landed in trouble with Ogun and Lagos police for what they tagged public exhibition of uncouth attitude

    Headies disqualify portable for exhibiting ‘rascally attitude’

    Smooth promotions the organisers of the Headies Awards have disqualified singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as  Portable, from the list of nominees.

    Portable was disqualified for numerous offenses ranging from threat to life and affiliation to cultism.

    Recall that on the 25th of May 2022, Portable had threatened to kill, or cause harm to the other nominees in the same categories of awards he was nominated for if he does not emerge the winner.

    He was initially nominated  in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ categories.

    In a statement issued on Tuesday, the organisers also cited the criminal investigations carried out by the police over the singer’s recent attitude

    The statement reads in part, “We regret to announce that following numerous indicting statements made by Mr. Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as ‘Portable’, and the incessant negative attention that Mr Okikiola has garnered from the Nigeria Police and the general public in recent times, the organisers of the Headies have resolved to disqualify Mr Okikiola as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards.

    “Being subject of an investigation relating to criminal activities, Mr Habeeb Okikiola is hereby disqualified from both categories of awards at the forthcoming 15th Annual Headies Awards scheduled to hold later this year.”

    Headies, organizer  had written a petition to the Nigerian Police Force, formally notifying them of the singer’s threat to other nominees of the award.

    They also asked the singer to tender an apology for his statement, which the singer later did.

     

    However, there seem not to be a change in the attitudinal disposition of the singer, hemce his diaqualification from the two categories he was nominated for.

     

  • Nigerian artiste Portable survives car accident in Lagos

    Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has escaped death after crashing his car on Saturday in Lagos.

    The singer took to Instagram to post a video showing the damaged car. He said, “I am just in search of what to eat, may God not allow me meet what will eat me. But, why is it that the most damaged part of the vehicle was the passenger seat I sat on? Meanwhile, nothing happened to the driver’s side of the vehicle. They want to kill a superstar but nothing (untoward) will happen to a child of God.”

    Portable who landed into trouble with Smooth promotions the organizers of Headies awards for sending death threats to fellow nominees incase he doesn’t win, also used the opportunity to apologize to the Awards organizers.

    Recall that on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, the singer had said, “Those are my awards. (If) anybody else wins, I will ask for them to be killed. If the organizers give my award to someone else, they will die. Don’t give my award to another person. He (the person) will die.”

    Smooth promotions is yet to respond to portable’s  apology  ahead of the Headies award billed to hold in America in July.

    The organizers of Headies music awards, Smooth promotions limited has frowned at singer Portable for making uncomplimentary comments about the show billed to hold in America in July.

    The rave-making singer  has been nominated for the Best Street-Hop Artiste and Rookie of the year awards according to the nomination list released by the Headies on Tuesday.

    The singer took to his Instagram page on Wednesday where he made death threats to other artistes featured in the categories he was nominated in.

    “Those are my awards, anybody else who wins I will ask for them to be killed. I will ask them to kill the person. If the organisers give my award to someone else, they will die,” he said in Yoruba. “No go give my award to another person, he go die o”

    In an official  statement made available  via Headies’ official Instagram account on Friday, it was revealed that Smooth Promotions  made a report to the police as regards the concerning video. The singer was also warned to retract his statement and make a written apology to his colleagues.

    The statement read in part, “The Headies condemns such act and is vehemently opposed to the utterance of any threats or actions that contravene our laws. We have notified the Nigerian Police Force of Okikiola’s actions to fellow nominees of the awards.

    “Also, demand that the immediate retraction of the video from Mr. Okikiola’s social media platforms, as well as a written apology to the nominees of both categories and to the Headies, must be made.

  • Singer portable reacts to his first Headies nominations

    Rave making  Nigerian artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has reacted to bagging two nominations in the 2022 Headies awards billed to hold in America.

    Portable, who is a first-time nominee, bagged double nominations in the ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ and ‘Rookie of the Year’ categories.

    In his reactions, the artiste has said that he really worked for the awards and hopes to win in the two categories he’s been nominated for.

    Portable took to his Instagram page to expressed his joy on his nominations.

    Zazuu Zeh crooner wrote, “I know I worked for this and I know it’s for me base on belief.

    The Headies don show love . Akoi Grace King. ZAzuu Best rookie and best street pop of the year. ZAzuu ZEH. Street ti Take Over @olamide @poco_lee Kala Wuwa Ika ZEH Nation.”

    Thefull list of the nominations for the 2022 Headies Award was announced on Tuesday with songs like Wizkid’s “Essence” and Ayra Starr’s “Bloody Samaritan” bagging multiple nominations.

    The list also had some first timers like Portable, Magixx, Fave, AV,  and other fast-rising artistes.

    The 2022 edition of the Headies awards is set to take place at the COBB Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, USA.
    The Headies is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry.
    The annual ceremony features performances by established and promising artists. It is broadcast live on HipTV to viewers across Nigeria
