    I had a massive heart attack – T.D. Jakes recounts near-death experience

T.D Jakes, the Senior Pastor of the Potter’s House in Dallas, Texas has narrated his experience of a life-threatening medical emergency he suffered last year during a church service.

TheNewsGuru recalls that the 67-year-old while preaching on stage, slumped, causing panic amongst his church members, before the Church officials helped him get off the stage.

In an interview with American broadcaster, Craig Melvin on the TODAY show, Jakes said he suffered a massive heart attack.

Jakes noted that, although, he felt no symptoms of a cardiac arrest, his doctors  told him he was preaching with only half of his heart working.

He said, “I didn’t really realize what was happening to me onstage until I got to the hospital in an ambulance and fussing that it happened onstage, by the way, because I didn’t want it to happen, and the doctor leaned over my ear and said, ‘You had a massive heart attack.’

“The reason I didn’t realize it was because I had none of the symptoms that they say.

“No numbness, no sharp pain, no anything. I just kind of drifted off to sleep. I didn’t know what it was, but I almost died.

“(The doctor) said five minutes later, I’d have been dead on arrival.

“The right side of my heart had completely stopped getting blood at all.

“As long as I was up preaching, I felt fine. But when I sat down, the adrenaline dropped, and it exposed the fact that I was preaching with half of my heart closed through a clot. And they had to go get it.”

  • Watching TV can reduce heart attack, stroke risks – Study

Watching TV can reduce heart attack, stroke risks – Study

Researchers say watching Television (TV) for no more than one hour a day may lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and other blood vessel diseases, otherwise known as Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD).

They say this occurs among people with varying levels of genetic risk for Type 2 diabetes.

This is contained in a report published in the Journal of the American Heart Association entitled: ‘’Genetic Susceptibility to Type 2 Diabetes, Television Viewing, and Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk.’’

The researchers, led by Mengyao Wang, were drawn from School of Public Health, University of Hong Kong and Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge.

Experts said that ASCVD is caused by plaque build-up in arterial walls and refers to conditions that include heart disease, stroke and peripheral artery disease.

Peripheral artery disease narrows arteries, reduces blood flow to the arms or legs.

These conditions may lead to severe consequences, such as compromised quality of life, bypass surgeries, stenting procedures (small mesh tube insertion into blocked artery), amputations and premature death.

The researchers found that about 21 per cent of respondents reported watching TV one hour or less a day, while 79 per cent reported two or more hours per day of TV-watching time.

They found that compared to watching TV for one hour or less daily, spending two hours or more daily in front of the TV was associated with a 12 per cent higher risk of ASCVD.

However, this is regardless of genetic risk for Type 2 diabetes.

Their evaluations indicated that participants with medium and high Type 2 diabetes genetic risk did not have higher risk of developing ASCVDs as long as TV viewing was limited to one hour or less daily.

Reacting to the report, Damon Swift said: “these findings add to the evidence that sitting time may represent a potential intervention tool to improve health in people in general and specifically for people with high risk for Type 2 diabetes

“This is especially important because people with Type 2 diabetes are at heightened risk for cardiovascular disease compared to those who do not have diabetes.”

“Targeted interventions could help people who sit for long periods of time in their homes or at their workplaces’’, said Swift.

Swift is the Chair, American Heart Association’s Physical Activity Committee and an Associate Professor at University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The study was based on samples of 346,916 white British individuals from UK biobank.

They had weighted polygenic risk score for Type 2 diabetes, calculated on the basis of 138 genetic variants associated with Type 2 diabetes.

Time spent watching TV among the sample population was self-reported and categorised into less than 1 hour a day and greater than 2 hours a day.

A polygenic risk score tells how somebody’s disease risk compares to others with a different genetic make up.

Meanwhile, Mengyao and the research team acknowledged that the study was limited by some variables, including television viewing time which was based on self‐reported information.

“There is a possibility of reporting bias, such as false reporting or underestimation of television viewing time due to social desirability’’, they said.

Chicago varsity: Atiku says I hope record won’t cause Nigerians heart attack

The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over the academic records of President Bola Tinubu saying that he hopes it would not make Nigerians a heart attack.

Atiku expressed these concerns through his Media Aide, Paul Ibe, who has implied that President Tinubu may be harbouring undisclosed information about his academic history, specifically concerning Chicago State University.

“It should be now obvious even to the blind that Tinubu is hiding something in his records at the Chicago State University, and even elsewhere.

“I do hope whatever it may be, it will not be of a scope that will give Nigerians a heart attack. Nigerians will soon see the true position of Atiku on the records of Tinubu at CSU. It is just a matter of time.” Ibe said in a statement.

These remarks came in response to a legal motion initiated by Tinubu, contesting an order from the Northern District of Illinois that mandated Chicago State University to release his academic records within a strict two-day time frame.

Father of abducted Kaduna female student dies from heart attack

The father of one of the 39 abducted college students in Kaduna State, Ibrahim Shamaki, is dead.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG gathered that Ibrahim was the father of Fatima Shamaki, one of the girls with hijab seen in the video that was released by bandits who invaded the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in the Afaka area of the state.

According to family sources who with Channels Television, late Shamaki died of a heart attack after he fell ill shortly after the news of his daughter’s abduction was broken to him.

He was said to have later died on Friday evening while his relatives were about to take him to a hospital for further medical treatment.

The news of Ibrahim’s death broke hours after the state government met with representatives of the grieving parents of the missing students at the Government House in the state capital.

This comes as Fatima Shamaki and the other abducted students prepare to spend their 15th night in the captivity of the bandits.

TNG recalls that on March 12 a group of armed men attacked the school – coming after the attacks by bandits on schools in Katsina, Niger, and Zamfara States.

But the military said it promptly responded to the attack as troops of Quick Response Force of 1 Division of the Nigerian Army mobilised to prevent the bandits from kidnapping the staff and students of the school.

As soon as the security operatives arrived in the school, they were said to have engaged the assailants in a gunfight.

This according to the military, led to the rescue of 180 people, comprising 132 male students, 40 female students, and eight civilian staff.

The rescued students and staff were later evacuated to a safe place while those who were injured were taken to a military facility for medical attention.

Despite the swift response of the soldiers, the bandits kidnapped 39 people, including 23 female and 16 male students.

A day after the incident, the bandits released a video in which the abducted students were seen being beaten as they pleaded with the government to rescue them.

While the parents of the missing students called for their release, the state government has ruled out the option of negotiating with bandits.
