    NAF reveals details of personnel in helicopter crash

    The Nigerian Air Force has revealed the names of personnel who lost their lives in the 14 August 2023 NAF Helicopter crash during an Evacuation mission in Niger state.

    This was made known during a condolence visit to family members of the deceased in Port Harcourt, where the chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar promised the NAF would continue to honour the memory of their loved ones while supporting those left behind.

    The CAS also visited the NAF unit, commisserating with personnel on the loss and praising them for their commitment and efforts in the ongoing joint military operations in the Niger Delta.

    The crew members who lost their lives during the mission include Flight Lieutenant Adamu Ibrahim, Flight Lieutenant Anthony  Duryumus, Lance Corporal Alaribe Daniel and Lance Corporal Briggs Stephen Peter. Two other NAF Regiment personnel, Corporal Jauro Amos and Lance Corporal Abdulrahman Abubakar, two other NAF Regiment personnel also lost their lives as part of the Nigerian Army ground troops who were ambushed and killed by terrorists in Niger State.

    Recall that TheNewsGuru.com reported that the a helicopter crashed into a building in the Oba Akran area of Ikeja, in Lagos State.

    [VIDEO] Helicopter crashes in Lagos, two rescued

    Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), on Tuesday, said a helicopter crashed into a building in the Oba Akran area of Ikeja, in Lagos State.

    Mr Tunji Oketumbi, Public Affairs, General Manager, NSIB confirmed the accident.

    According to an eyewitness, the incident happened at about 3.30 pm.

    Emergency responders have confirmed the rescue of two persons from a Propeller aircraft that crashed.

    Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said that the plane was a South African-made Javir plane.

    While speaking to newsmen at the scene of the disaster, the Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that emergency responders were swift in bringing the situation under control.

    Oke-Osanyintolu said there was no casualty recorded in spite of the fact that the plane crashed very close to a Petrol station.

    He expressed gratitude to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose effort led to the formation of emergency responders at the grassroot level.

    “The agency activated its disaster response plan to the crash which occurred around 1600hrs. The scene has been discharged at 1730 hrs.

    “The helicopter, with registration number, 5NCCQ, was finally confirmed to contain 2 passengers and it has been safely removed from the road which is now free for vehicular movement.

    “All Emergency Responders are now departing the scene. Further investigation to be carried out by NCAA,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

    Emergency responders at the scene included NEMA, LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

    In less than two months, another US helicopters crash during Alaska training flight

    Two United States Army attack helicopters crashed while on a training flight in Alaska on Thursday, the military said, the second such incident in less than a month.

    The AH-64 Apache helicopters “crashed today near Healy, Alaska, returning from a training flight. First responders are on the scene. The incident is under investigation and more information about the incident will be released when it becomes available,” the US Army’s 11th Airborne Division said in a statement.

    It wasn’t immediately clear the condition of those involved in the crash.

    The accident followed a similar incident in late March in which two US Army Blackhawk helicopters crashed during a training flight in Kentucky, killing all nine soldiers on board.

    There have been multiple other crashes of US military aircraft in recent years, including another involving a Black Hawk that killed two Tennessee National Guardsmen during a training flight in Alabama in February.

    Four US Marines were killed during NATO exercises in Norway last year when their V-22B Osprey aircraft went down, possibly after hitting a mountain, investigators said.

    And two US Navy pilots were rescued after their T-45C Goshawk jet crashed during a training exercise in a residential neighbourhood near Fort Worth, Texas in 2021. The pilots ejected before the plane went down.

    Three people have been confirmed dead after a Nigerien military helicopter crashed on return from a routine training flight.

    The country’s defence ministry said the helicopter crashed while landing at an airport in the capital Niamey on Monday, December 26, killing three people on board including an expatriate instructor.

    The wreckage burst into flames, blocking rescuers from reaching the crew.

    Reuters reported that a commission of inquiry has been set up to determine the cause of the accident.

    A helicopter carrying pilgrims to Kedarnath in India’s Himalayan region crashed on Tuesday, killing all six on board, a police official said.

    Two pilots and four pilgrims died in the crash in the northern state of Uttarakhand, its police chief, Ashok Kumar, told Reuters by telephone, adding that a rescue team had been sent to the site.

    Footage from Reuters partner ANI showed smoke billowing from a spot nestled in between some hills, surrounded by dark clouds.

    It is too early to determine the cause of the accident, but poor weather could be a factor, Kumar added.

    Kedarnath is a key pilgrimage site that is shut every winter.(

    Pilot killed as army helicopter crashes

    An Indian army Cheetah helicopter has crashed in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, leaving one pilot killed and another one injured, media reported on Wednesday.

    The helicopter with two pilots on board crashed near the village of Tawanga at about 04:30 GMT, the Indian news agency ANI reported, citing army officials, adding that the pilots were evacuated to a military hospital.

    One of the pilots who suffered severe injuries died during treatment, the report read.

    The cause of the crash is unknown and the details are being investigated, the news agency reported.

    Cheetahs are manufactured by the Indian company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited under a French license based on the Aerospatiale SA 315B Lama model.

    The Niger Police Command said it had not arrested any foreign national distributing weapons with a helicopter to bandits in the state.

    Commissioner of Police, Mr. Monday Kuryas said in Minna on Friday that such an incident never occurred in any part of the state.

    Kuryas described the report as ”fake news circulating in social media as such incident never happened in the state.

    ”We have not arrested any foreign national with helicopter distributing weapons to bandits in our area of supervision.”.

    He called on members of the general public to disregard such reports and support the police with the required information that could aid in apprehending men of the underworld in the state.

    ”All we require from good samaritans is vital information on the movement of bad characters in their midst, especially those at rural areas to tackle the menace of kidnapping, banditry, and cattle rustling”, he urged.

    The commissioner said that the police would remain resolute and focused in “exterminating enemies of our collective security.”

    Kuryas, urged law-abiding citizens to be vigilant and promptly report all suspicious characters to security agencies nearest to them.

    He assured residents of the state of confidentiality of all sources of information.

    Pakistan said Tuesday rescue teams found the wreckage of a military helicopter that crashed overnight due to bad weather in flood-hit southwestern Baluchistan province, killing all six senior officers on board.

    The crash occurred when the officers were on a mission to assess the damage that the flooding had caused during the several weeks of torrential rains.

    The heavy rain had caused a lot of damage in the province of Balochistan, a military statement said.

    The preliminary investigations suggested bad weather had caused the crash, the statement said, quelling speculation that the helicopter might have been targeted by rebels in one of the volatile regions.

    A general commanding the military in the country’s southern region and another one heading the coastguard forces were among the dead.

    Helicopter with Turkish employees on board missing in Italy

    Turkish industrial group Eczacibasi on Friday confirmed that a helicopter with seven people on board, including four Turkish citizens had gone missing in northern Italy.

    The Turkish foreign ministry also confirmed the incident, noting the search and rescue efforts for the helicopter continued.

    A team from the company, including an Italian pilot, took off from the Iralian city of Lucca and headed for Treviso on Thursday morning but disappeared near the Modena region, said a statement by Eczacibasi.

    The Turkish employees were in Italy to attend a paper technologies fair organized by Tissue Italy Network, the statement added.

    The communication with the helicopter, an Agusta Koala “AW119” type, was cut off about 30 minutes after its takeoff, according to the Italian ANSA news agency.
