2023: What Nigerians need to do to turn things around – Primate

The Primate, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba has charged Nigerians on what to do to turn things around for good in the New Year.

In his new year message at the Cathedral Church of the Advent Life Camp, Abuja, Primate Ndukuba said that the current challenges were biting hard on citizens.

Ndukuba called for more political will to address the various challenges in the country. According to him, the high cost of living, insecurity and huge number of unemployed youths posed a threat to peace and national unity.

He, however, expressed his believe that with the intervention of God, there would be divine solutions. The cleric stressed the need for the Federal Government to prosecute those sponsoring terrorism and other issues threatening national unity.

On the 2023 general election, the Anglican Primate urged eligible Nigerians to vote for credible leaders. He also appealed to political leaders to shun violence and support efforts toward peaceful conduct of the polls.

Ndukuba enjoined Christians not to give up on fervent prayers, as that was also a sure way to overcome all challenges.

While declaring the year 2023 as a year of “Divine Exaltation”, the Primate said Christians should exalt God and watch him turn things around for good.

2023 will be a better year – Primate assures Nigerians

The Primate, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba has expressed optimism that the country will overcome its challenges and become stronger among the comity of nations.

Addressing the congregation in his Christmas message at the Cathedral Church of Advent, Life Camp, Abuja, Archbishop Ndukuba said the birth of Jesus Christ brought hope to mankind.

He urged Nigerians not to be afraid of the challenges but look unto God who has promised to bring the country out of the present situation and liberate the citizens.

The Primate called on Nigerians to have faith in God and not to be afraid because the purpose of God for Nigeria would come to pass soon.

According to him, there is hope for Nigeria as the people are passing through what they are passing through as individuals, as families, as a people, and as a nation.

“At such a time as this, just as it was in the very first Christmas, when Jesus was born, the message of the Angel to the shepherds, who were like neglected people, oppressed and not regarded in the society.

“When God wanted to break the news of the birth of Jesus, they were the first people that God told what heaven has done, which means God has regard for everybody.

“God has regard for the people, especially the downtrodden, those that are oppressed and suffering, and those that have no regard, no class.”

The Primate however called on Christains to walk righreously for things to work in their favour.

“I am believing God that a good number of people in the world are passing through challenging times and things that make them worth feel worthless.

“But this Christmas, the message to us is, do not be afraid. Do not be overtaken by the things that you are confronting you.

“Look onto God, for our sake, Jesus was born, so that He will deliver us from the bondage of sin and death, giving us salvation and freedom.

“So that we will be indeed the people that God has intended and purpose for us,

“There is a purpose for God in the life of every individual, every family, and indeed, for Nigeria, and that the purpose shall surely come to pass.

“His purpose will come to pass in Nigeria because God has given us, His Son, Jesus Christ, the Saviour, born to us.

”So that we shall be delivered from the bondage of this world and be given hope and purpose to live the glory of God.

“As we celebrate Christmas, we encourage people to open up their hearts, that Jesus may be born in them, to open up their lives and surrender that life to the one who is the Lord our God.

”And if we will open up unto him, the purpose of God shall be fulfilled and the things that God wants to do in and through us, will be manifested,” he said.

Queen’s death: King Charles III to visit Nigeria

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Liang has disclosed that the newly crowned King of England, King Charles III will visit Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Liang made the disclosure when she led members of staff of the Commission to a special service held for the late Queen Elizabeth II by the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.

The British High Commissioner disclosed this while thanking the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Archbishop Henry Ndukuba, and the Church for honouring the late Queen and identifying with the people of the United Kingdom (UK) in their period of mourning.

While Liang did not release the details of the visit of King Charles III to Nigeria, she recounted her previous audiences with the late Queen as her representative to Nigeria.

The British High Commissioner disclosed that the late Queen Elizabeth II spoke so fondly of her two visits to Nigeria in 1956 and 2003.

“King Charles III also has great interests in Nigeria, has visited and will visit again,” she said.

In his sermon at the special service held at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Abuja, Archbishop Ndukuba described the late Queen Elizabeth II of England as a defender of the Protestant faith, whose entire life was guided by her belief in Jesus Christ.

He said that her messages always demonstrated her personal commitment to the rich inheritance of faith in the living God, convictions on marriage, morality and the dignity of human life, as rooted in the Scriptures.

The Archbishop said in spite of her deep convictions in Christ, the Queen accommodated and respected other faiths and people.

In the special service attended by members of the House of Bishops, clergy and laity of the Church, Ndukuba recalled her publicly declared devotion to Jesus Christ at her accession to the throne, 70 years ago.

He said: “At her coronation when she processed into the Church, she first went to the high altar to kneel in prayer and personally surrendered her life to the Almighty God before she came down to the pomp and pageantry of the coronation.

“Her message of Aug. 3, 2022 expressed this clearly when she said ‘throughout my life the message and teachings of Christ have been my guide and in them, find hope.”

The Archbishop added that the Queen had run a good race in faith and life till the end.

“If Christ and the word of God be her hope then there is the great and glorious reward of the crown of righteousness that awaits her,” he added.

The Primate, who based his exhortation from 2nd Timothy 4: 6-8, said ” like Saint Paul the Apostle, the Queen would be remembered as the monarch whose life was spent purposefully in the service of God and her people.”

Reflecting on her life and numerous charities that touched many indigent people, the Primate said “like Paul, she was poured out in the very service she was called.

“As a young princess, she pledged to spend her whole life serving the people whether that life be long or short.

“Indeed, God blessed her with longevity and she was a hallmark of humble, patient and dedicated service to the citizens of Britain and the whole world.

”Till the very last breath of her life, she remained resolute in her service”.

“Queen Elizabeth II was a steadfast consistent guide to Britain, the Commonwealth and to world leaders in the most difficult periods of history, wars, economic recessions and political instabilities.”

He also described her as a guiding light and a measure of stability, who was always calm and unruffled by challenges, whether personal, national or international.

“She lived a purposeful and fulfilled life of service to her Kingdom and to the world,” the clergy added.

The Nigerian Anglican leader said that her reign witnessed the transition from colonial rule to the independence and nationhood of many nations under the British Empire.

“She wisely brought to birth those nations. As a mother, she was able to constitute them into a Commonwealth of Nations that has remained a strong bloc of nations contributing to world peace,” he added.

Ndukuba used the occasion to remind Christians of life beyond this world, the second coming of Jesus Christ, eternal judgment and reward.

Reading from Psalms 39: 4-6, 90:10 and 1 Peter 1:24, the Archbishop reminded Christians of ”the inevitability of death.

“The real issue is where shall you be when this life is ended. Hebrews 9 verse 27 says ‘it is appointed for men to die once but after this comes the judgment of God.”

He prayed that “God will raise the beloved Queen Elizabeth II at the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

The Archbishop of Jos Province and Bishop of Yola Diocese, Markus Ibrahim, and Bishop Stephen Fagbemi of Owo Diocese, led intercessory prayers for the new King and the late Queen.

The Cathedral’s choir ministered in hymns and a special anthem, “His Eyes are on the Sparrow”.

Ndukuba also charged men to mobilize their family members to get their PVCs as well, stressing that all men in the country must determine to be involved in voting credible leaders into power come 2023.

Ndukuba stated: “The activities leading on to the 2023 General Elections are on now. We have the opportunity to change the narrative of our Nation. We encourage all men to obtain their Voters Card, mobilize their families to do the same.

“All men must determine to be involved in Voting credible leaders into power come 2023. The next regime must serve to salvage our Nation from the brinks of becoming a failed State. The opportunity for a peaceful change in Political leadership is now. Every man and father must exercise his civic right”.

The Anglican Primate in the goodwill message also stated that God’s desire is for men to be fathers whose lives and actions will command their household after Christlikeness.

The goodwill message reads in part: “We give thanks to God for His Fatherhood over us and the gift of fathers in the Househol of God and the Family. We appreciate the labours and contributions of all our men and fathers in supporting the work and ministry of the Church.

“We congratulate all our Fathers on this year’s Fathers’ Sunday, our prayer is that the Lord will bless you all with the righteous man’s reward as you continue to serve God, knowing that we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which the Lord has foreordained for us. (Ephes. 2:10)

“Fathers are Covenant Connectors, Priest of their homes, Burden bearers, God’s Representative, Progenitors, Seed and Vision carriers. Fathers are pivotal to God’s plans for every generation. May the Lord enable all our men and fathers by His grace to fulfil their purpose and calling in life as Fathers.

“In Genesis 18: 16-19.Abraham our father in faith, was visited by the Lord in the midst of a prevailing wickedness and sexual perversion as it is today.

“But God found in Abraham a man and a father He could trust, partner and work with for the accomplishment of His divine purpose for their generation.

“God is still looking for such a man and father in our generation, will God find you as such? In verse 19. God said. “For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”

“God affirmatively attested to Abraham’s obedience and godly leadership over his family, as a type of faithful and godly father that leads by example. As we celebrate this year’s Fathers Sunday, God’s desire that we will be fathers whose lives and actions will command our household after Christlikeness.

“One implication of the text, is that only Fathers who keep the way of the Lord that will see and enjoy the fulfilment of what God has promised. We are in very precarious and perilous times. This is also God’s own opportune time. We therefore, admonish all our men to be vigilant and pay close attention to their Health, their Family, Environment and Social Associations.

“We must remain faithful to the Lord in all things. Be watchful and be prayerful, and seek not yet repose. Again, we congratulate all members of the Christian Men’s Fellowship, our dear men and fathers, the LORD will preserve you to celebrate many more Fathers Sunday. The LORD be with You”.

BREAKING: Just like RCCG, Anglican Church sets up political department ahead of 2023 elections

Just like the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion has set up a department in the church for political mobilization ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He made the announcement at the final stage of the 2022 Joshua Generation International Youth Conference, where he also commissioned some other new important departments in the church.

Our correspondent gathered that the political department is meant to mentor youths in the Anglican church and prepare them ready to actively participate in Nigerian politics.

The political department is also to serve as a platform to encourage church members on the importance of getting their permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) and participating actively during elections.

The new department is also to help coordinate the engagement of the church members who are willing to be involved in politics as well as mobilize support for them.

While the scope of the department is yet to be fully defined, the general aim of the political department, according to the Primate, is to mobilise members of the Anglican church to actively participate in politics.

TNG reports the Church of Nigeria is the Anglican church in Nigeria. It is the second-largest province in the Anglican Communion after the Church of England.

As of 2016, membership of the church, measured was pegged at over 18 million. It is the largest Anglican province on the continent of Africa, accounting for 41.7% of Anglicans in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Recall that the RCCG had announced a similar political department in the church that was met with so much criticism recently.

While the RCCG gave a blanket reason on why it’s political department was set up, some members of the public, mostly on social media attributed the move to the presidential ambition of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Meanwhile, Primate Ndukuba also commissioned a department in charge of assisting students, who wish to study abroad via scholarships or self funded.

Ndukuba also commissioned Church of Nigeria Football club to be registered into Nigerian Premier league with the recruitment of players expected to begin soon.

TNG reports the Primate also commissioned a department for mission outreach.

  • Church of Nigeria affirms rejection of homosexuality

Church of Nigeria affirms rejection of homosexuality

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) on Sunday affirmed its rejection of homosexuality, vowing to defend the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Primate, Archbishop Henry Ndukuba, made the position of the church known in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

“The Church of Nigeria affirms its total rejection of homosexuality, and will surely stand to defend the truth of the gospel based on the injunctions and ethical principles of the Holy Bible,’’ Ndukuba said.

The statement is entitled, ‘‘Church of Nigeria’s Position on the Recent Developments in Anglican Church in North America (ACNA)”.

He condemned recent signing of a letter which, he said, recognised and promoted homosexuality in ACNA.

The cleric called for sanctions against bishops, priests and laity in ACNA Province who signed the letter.

Ndukuba said that the letter might have brought the Church to ridicule on biblical teachings about Christian marriage and human sexuality.

“We appreciate Archbishop Foley Beach’s intervention by which the offensive gay Anglican letter was removed from the web, but this has not cured the diseases that have set in, neither has it mitigated the damage this has done by the public advertisement and the changing perception of the ACNA stand on Biblical orthodoxy.

“A gay is a gay, he cannot be rightly described otherwise.

“We cannot describe people as Christian murderers or Christian adulterers, neither should we have gay Christians or gay Anglican.

“Without holiness, no man shall see God,’’ the cleric said.

He advised ACNA to take a clear stand on homosexuality and same -sex relations of all types.
