    Police nab seven notorious highway robbers in Lagos

    The Lagos state Police Command says it has arrested seven suspected highway  robbers, whom it alleged have been terrorizing motorists on Ketu-Ikorodu Expressway in Kosofe area of the state.

    These men have been operating on the Kosofe-Ketu, Oworoshoki axis of Lagos for sometime now.

    The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin,  confirmed the arrest on Friday via his verified Twitter handle.

    Hundeyin said that five of the suspects were arrested on Thursday at 11.00 a.m, while they were alleged to be attacking a motorist at Kosofe Bus Stop, near Mile 12 Food Market.

    “On Thursday, five traffic robbers swooped on a motorist at Kosofe Bus Stop, along Ikorodu Road.

    “The Ketu Police Division’s patrol team arrested them all, and that action led to the arrest of two others,” he said.

    The spokesman said that the suspects’ ages were between 18 and 28.

    He said that  investigation was ongoing at the divisional level on the arrested suspects.

    The Lagos state police command  has arrested 35 suspected armed robbers between June and August, 2022.

    The spokesman who also confirmed the figure added that  13 other suspected armed robbers were killed in different parts of the state during encounters with the police within the  same period.

    He said 37 robbery operations were foiled in different parts of the state within the  same time. (NAN)

  • Police arrest two notorious highway robbers in Lagos

    The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two robbery suspects who specialize in robbing motorists and pedestrians  at the Deeper Life Bible Church Bridge in Gbagada.

    This development was confirmed to newsmen by the spokesperson for the Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin in Lagos.

    “The suspects were arrested by policemen on routine patrol following credible information received about the presence of suspicious persons on Deeper Life Bible Church Bridge, Gbagada.

    “The third suspect took to his heels upon sighting the policemen,” Hundeyin said.

    He said that the suspects had been operating in the area during traffic gridlocks, distracting motorists and carting away their phones and other belongings.

    He noted that the suspects in its custody are helping the police in an ongoing investigation to arrest the third suspect and other members of their gang.

    Hundeyin added that the suspects would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation was concluded

    Highway robbers devise new means to rob motorists on long bridge

    Highway robbers on the long bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway have devised a new means to waylay and rob unsuspecting motorists and commuters of their valuables and money TheNewsguru.com TNG can authoritatively confirm.

    A resident of Magboro in Ogun state who doesn’t want his name disclosed has opened up on his experience on the long bridge on Sunday night when returning from his outing.

    He said that some group of boys started pelting his vehicle with big stones and bottles in a bid to force him to stop so he could be robbed.

    He added that instead of stopping he increased his speed and sped off to prevent being double crossed by the robbers.

    His car was badly damaged due to the pelting of stones. by the robbers.

    He lamented the porous security situation on the long bridge saying his life could have been endangered if he was scared and stopped at the time the robbers were stoning his car.

    The Wawa police station was contacted and its operatives were drafted to beef up security on the long bridge.

    He however, called on the Lagos and Ogun state government to intensify their security network on the long bridge saying it’s gradually becoming a notorious route for both motorists and commuters plying the road.
