    Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci was in church on Sunday to testify to the goodness of God and the kind of God’s grace that worked for her in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual).

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Hilda Baci, who shared her testimony at Harvesters International Christian Centre, Lekki, Lagos State, testified that it was all-round grace that worked for her.

    Speaking during her testimony time, Hilda Baci said: “I prayed that the grace of God will always be sufficient for me because honestly, the pastor has preached about grace and he said that there are different kinds of grace.

    “There is grace for money and there’s grace for favour. But what you need is to have all-round grace. When I prayed about this attempt, I prayed for all-round grace.

    “In truth, many people have talked about being able to afford PR but there is no amount of money that can the love.

    “The news could have gone out there and nobody will speak to me but somehow, it is the grace and the mercy of God…”.

    TNG reports the 27-year-old cooked from May 11 to May 14 in an attempt to surpass the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) held by India’s Lata Tondon, who set the record in 2019 with 87 hours 45mins 00 seconds.

    Baci, who started her career as a chef in 2020 with her brand as @Myfoodbyhilda, embarked on the journey at Amore Gardens Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. She surpassed the current world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual with 100 hours, to break the Guinness World Record for longest cooking hours.

    The show was live streamed on multiple social media channels where she made over 250 recipes.

    However, Guinness World Records is yet to recognize Hilda Baci as the record holder.

    Madonna University, Nigeria, has extended its congratulations to Hilda Baci for her remarkable achievement in setting a new world record in the cooking marathon.

    In recognition of her outstanding accomplishment, the university, where Chef Hilda is an alumna, awarded her a scholarship up to the PhD level in the congratulatory message.

    In an official statement titled “Celebrating Excellence and Congratulating our proud Alumna, Hilda Bassey Effiong,” signed by Associate Prof. Martin Anagboso, DVC(Admin), Madonna University expressed its joy and pride in Chef Hilda’s achievement.

    The university confirmed that she has been granted a scholarship up to the PhD level, along with the highest merit award, by the Founder and Chancellor of Madonna University, Nigeria.

    In the statement, Madonna University acknowledged Chef Hilda’s remarkable feat and commended her for setting a new world record in the cooking marathon.

    The statement reads:

    “The management, staff and students of Madonna University, Nigeria congratulate Hilda Bassey Effiong on the award of scholarship to PhD level and Madonna University, Nigeria highest merit award by the Founder and Chancellor.

    “These awards are in recognition of her achievement. Since its inception over two decades ago, Madonna University has prided itself as a pacesetter and record breaker with several achievements under its belt. For instance, it is on record that we are the first private university to go into full operation in Nigeria and the first Catholic University in the West African sub-region. More so, we are the first Nigerian university to operate a 100% boarding system for all students.

    “We have remained steadfast in our commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence, equipping our teeming students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world.

    BREAKING: Guinness World Records denies Nigerians access to website

    Currently, Nigerians are not able to access the website of Guinness World Records as the website has been configured to block traffic from the country.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports a visit to the website returns a “403 Error” page with a message boldly written, “The request could not be satisfied”.

    The message on the website also contains the following information: “The Amazon CloudFront distribution is configured to block access from your country.

    “We can’t connect to the server for this app or website at this time. There might be too much traffic or a configuration error. Try again later, or contact the app or website owner”.

    However, a visit to the website using a virtual private network (VPN) went through.

    TNG reports this is coming after Guinness World Records made a publication on the website with the title, “Nigerian chef Hilda Baci bids for longest cooking marathon with 100-hour kitchen stint”.

    The publication posted by Vicki Newman quoted a Guinness World Records spokesperson as giving reasons why Hilda Baci was yet to be recognized as the record holder for longest cooking hour by an individual.

    “We are aware of the record attempt and are looking forward to receiving the evidence for our Records Management Team to review, before we can confirm the record is official,” the spokesperson was quoted to have said.

    Hilda began cooking on Thursday and continued through to Monday, reportedly whipping up 55 recipes and more than 100 meals in a whopping 100-hour stint.

    She snapped up the record title for longest cooking marathon (individual) which currently belongs to Lata Tondon (India) with a time of 87 hr 45 min.

    Dana Airline says it will support Guinness World Record -breaking chef, Hilda Baci with one year free tickets.

    Newsmen reports that this was announced on Dana Air Twitter handle @DanaAir .

    Ememobong Ettete , the Chief Operating Officer of Dana Airline said the proud Nigerian brand would always support the creativity, efforts and innovation of Nigerian youths.

    ” We have always blazed the trail in terms of support for the arts and entertainment industry, health care and culture.

    “We will be supporting Hilda’s local travels for one year and we are inspired by her.

    “We will be supporting her Mum also with three months of local flights for free and we thank her for giving us an amazing daughter,“ it read.

    The 27 -year -old Hilda Bassey Effiong, known as Hilda Baci started cooking on Thursday May 11, to surpass India’s Lata Tondon who set the record in 2019 with 87 hours 45mins 00 seconds.

    Newsmen also reports that Baci started her career as a chef in 2020 with her brand as @Myfoodbyhilda.

    She embarked on a journey to break the Guinness World Record for longest cooking marathon on May 11 at Amore Gardens Lekki, Lagos Nigeria and ended it on May 14 .

    After breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time held by an individual, Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci has set a new record in the category.

    Lata Tondon set a record of 87 hours and 45 minutes in India in 2019, but the Nigerian chef blew past that record at 7:46 am on Monday, May 15, 2023.

    The 27-year-old has been cooking nonstop since 4 pm on Thursday, May 11.

    However, Guinness World Records has delayed recognizing Hilda Baci as the record holder, stressing the need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming the record.

    President Muhammadu Buhari says he shares the joy of celebrations as 27-year-old Gourmet Chef, Hilda Bassey Effiong, aka Hilda Baci, makes history by breaking the world record for longest hours of cooking.

    The President in a statement by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina on Monday in Abuja, noted  the antecedents of the restaurateur, who dazzled at the Jollof Face-off Competition, 2021.

    He lauded her for preparing mouth-watering dishes that won the choice prize, and settled an age-long rivalry with Ghana on which African country should own the trademark for cooking better jollof- rice.

    According to him, Baci’s drive and ambition have brought more interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food, as another cultural icon, with huge tourism benefits, hoping more young people will follow in her footsteps.

    The President thanked the sponsors of Hilda Baci Cook-a-thon, government officials, including Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, celebrities from the bubbling music and movie industry, and fans of the chef for all the support that had brought glory to the country.

    Guinness World Records has acknowledged the “amazing record attempt” by Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci.

    However, the people who monitor world records and put them in a big book once a year are yet to officially confirm the record.

    The longest cooking time held by an individual had been 87 hours, 45 minutes, set by an Indian chef known as Lata Tondon.

    After Hilda Baci surpassed the 87 hours, 45 minutes record, most fans and loved ones were expecting the Guinness World Records to announce on their official page that the Nigerian chef is now the new title holder.

    However, Guinness World Records disclosed that they need to review all evidence to show if Hilda Baci complied with all the rules before officially confirming her record.

    TNG reports Hilda Baci started her cooking for the record on Thursday at exactly 4 pm after she turned on her cooker. She is on her way to set a new record notwithstanding.

    Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci inches closer to breaking Guinness World Record

    In a matter of few hours, Nigerian chef and entrepreneur, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, would have broken the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual”.

    Hilda Baci hit the 85-hour mark on Monday morning, with less than 3 hours remaining to set a new world record.

    She started her cooking for the competition on Thursday at exactly 4 pm after she turned on her cooker.

    She will be breaking the record initially set by Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who made the feat in 2019.

    The event, which is taking place at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos, is being live-streamed on YouTube, and several celebrities, including Nigerians who have defied rain physically cheering up the visibly tired chef.

    As of Sunday, the chef had hit the three-day mark amid cheers from popular celebrities and politicians.

    The cook-a-thon’s Instagram account, @hildabacicookathon revealed that the event is headline sponsored by GB Foods. Other sponsors include Arla Foods, BaigeWallet, Filmhouse, Jumbo, Uber and Woodscop

    The Cookathon has garnered attention both online and at the physical venue where celebrities are trooping in to support the chef.

    Nollywood actor, Charles Okocha; actress, Kate Henshaw; singer, Tiwa Savage; media personality, Enioluwa, and many others appeared at the event.

    Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also visited the venue on Sunday to cheer up Baci.

    Filmmaker, Kevin Adetiba, wrote on Twitter, “REALLY rooting for HILDA BACHI. Don’t know her personally, but her drive, ambition and resilience, inspire and motivate me IMMENSELY.

    “Sending her prayers and the best vibes to PUSH THROUGH. She’s inspiring people she doesn’t even know. GO HILDA… YOU GOT THIS!!!”

    Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, also lauded Baci for her “determination and focus.”

    “The efforts being made by Hilda Effiong Bassey (Hilda Baci) to beat the current Guinness World Record for cooking for 4 days nonstop shows the true Nigerian spirit of hard work and resilience. I applaud her determination and focus on the goal, which is inspiring many Nigerian youths to live their dreams through hard work and dedication.

    “I wish her well on this noble journey to pen her name in the golden book of history. -PO,” he tweeted on Sunday.

    This is not the first time she is making giant strides in cooking competition, she participated in the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021 where she emerged winner with a sum of  grand prize of $5000.

    Although it’s on record that there is no official  grand prize attached for breaking winning on Guinness Book of Records but the feat will open her up for endorsement opportunies from brands across the globe.
