    Kano’s Hisbah arrests 8 persons for eating, refusing to fast during Ramadan

    The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested eight persons at Tudun Murtala in Nassarawa Local Government Area and Hudebiyya in Sharada, Kano, over their refusal to fast during Ramadan.

    The Executive Director of the board, Dr Aliyu Kibiya confirmed the arrest in a statement signed by Malam Lawal Ibrahim, Public Relations Officer of the board in Kano on Thursday.

    Kibiya said the arrests were made following reports from residents of the areas.

    The statement said, “The culprits were five females and three males, eating in the afternoon in the month of Ramadan.”

    It further explained that the board would continue to conduct raids in all parts of the state to curb the development.

    The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 43 people for prostitution and illegal sales of alcohol substance at Kwanar Gafan vegetables market, in Garun Malam Local Government Area of the state.

    Dr Harun Ibn-Syna, the Commander General of Hisbah who paraded the suspects on Monday in Sharada quarters, confirmed the arrest.

    “Out of the 43, 34 are females while the remaining nine are males, aged between 15 and 18.

    “The investigation conducted on the suspects also revealed that, out of the male number, eight were found selling hard drugs and one person found in possession of 80 cartons of different bottles of beer,’’Ibn-Syna said.

    He said that 14 were HIV positive, 10 knew their status while four do not know, and that three rolls of males and female condoms were also recovered at the market.

    He said that the arrest was jointly organised between Hisbah board and the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

    Earlier, the Director General of the board, Dr Aliyu Kibiya, disclosed that most of the suspects are from Kano, while some of them are from neighbouring states which include Adamawa, Anambra, Cross river, Bauchi, Benue, Kaduna, Niger, Gombe and Taraba.

    Sharia agency destroys 588 bottles of beer in Jigawa

    Hisbah, the Sharia law enforcement agency in Jigawa, said it had destroyed no fewer than 588 confiscated bottles of beer in Ringim Local Government Area of the state.

    Malam Ibrahim Dahiru, the State Commandant of Hisbah made this known in Dutse on Sunday that the beer was destroyed on Aug. 20.

    Dahiru said that the beer was confiscated in Tudun Babaye village, Ringim LGA, during a raid in Gujungu, Kijawal and Wadugur villages in Ringim and Taura Local Government Areas.

    He emphasized that consumption of beer was prohibited in all parts of the state, including villages.

    The commandant assured that the Hisbah would not relent in its fight against immoral acts, including consumption of alcohol in the state.

    Dahiru further advised residents to desist from engaging in vices capable of destroying the society.

    Kano Hisbah board destroys 196,400 bottles of beer

    The Kano State Hisbah Board, has destroyed over 196,400 bottles of beer confiscated within the Kano metropolis.‎

    This is contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Hassan Musa-Fage.‎

    Speaking shortly after the destruction exercise at Kalemawa in Dawakin Tofa local Government Area, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, said that Islam forbids alcohol consumption and all other intoxicants that can distort the mental capability of a person.

    ” In Islam, alcohol is strongly forbidden. Our Islamic Scholars, religious and community leaders should join hands together in the crusade against such social vices,”he explained.‎

    ‎Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna, assured that all other Shari’ah agencies in the State will enjoy similar promotion and support with State Hisbah Biard to enable them discharge their mandates.

    The statement also quoted the governor as saying that the state will continue to support the Hisbah more especially after the inauguration and decoration of Commanders in all the 44 Local Government Areas.

    “I urge you to give them all the supports to discharge their duties will not only promote their work but ensure that our society become free from evil social acts,” he said.

    In his remarks, the Commander General, Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheik Haroon Ibn – Sina said that the board had succeeded in preventing alcohol sales and consumption under the provisions of Section 401 of the Sharia Laws of Kano.

    He said the board also got a court order to destroy over 12 trucks of alcohol.
