Oborevwori will never undermine development of Isoko nation

The Delta State Government has called on communities in the State to maintain peace, eschew bitter wrangling, and avoid giving wrong narratives about events in the State.

The State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza in a statement on Wednesday in Asaba, urged Deltans to shun acts that could promote violence in the State.

Osuoza in the statement pointed out that it is not true that the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro has been relocated.

He said: “It has come to the attention of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori, and the Delta State Government that a protest, purportedly sponsored and coordinated by certain anti-progressive elements, was organized in Isokoland ostensibly to express discontent over the erroneous narrative that the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, was going to be relocated elsewhere.

“This narrative is not only dangerously misleading, it is also deviously manipulated misinformation and negative propaganda, fueled by known political detractors to achieve selfish political gains.

“The Delta State Government is deeply saddened and disappointed that such a display of public discontent was allowed to take place, even after a very fruitful, cordial, and hugely successful meeting with His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the leaders of the recognized umbrella body of Isoko nation, the Isoko Development Union, IDU, led by its President, Professor Chris Akpotu, where they were informed of the very positive initiatives and progressive strides towards strengthening and consolidating the academic and educational standard of the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro.

“The sponsored protest is uncalled for after the successful meeting with His Excellency, the Governor.

“For the avoidance of doubts and to set the records straight, the Delta State University of Science and Technology is NOT being relocated and HAS NOT BEEN RELOCATED.

“Again, the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, confirmed to the delegation of leaders and traditional rulers from Isoko nation, that the National Universities Commission (NUC), has approved the establishment of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacy and Health Sciences for the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro.

“This is indeed a tremendous academic achievement and masterstroke of immense proportion, for a specialized Institution of Higher learning like the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro which is wholly conceived, designed, and structured specifically to train and produce graduate students in the area of Science and Technology.

“We want to assure the good people of Isoko nation that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff F.O Oborevwori would not do anything directly or remotely and for very obvious and personal reasons, to undermine the Isoko people, especially in the area of education.

“Deltans are therefore called upon to be wary of elements who don’t mean well but hell-bent on spinning half-truths and deceptive information just to cause confusion and disaffection against the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his well-laid-out MORE Agenda”.

LGs now responsive to people’s needs – Oborevwori+Photos

Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Wednesday, said Local Governments in the state were now responsive, responsible to the yearnings and aspirations of the people at the grassroots.

Governor Oborevwori stated this while inaugurating projects executed by the Chairmen of Warri South and Sapele Local Governments.

Speaking in Warri, Governor Oborevwori commended the Council Chairman, Dr. Michael Tidi, for converting the Warri playground, which, he said had been a den of criminals, to Warri South Local Government Cottage Hospital.

Governor Oborevwori, who was joined by former Governor of the State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, the Olu of Warri HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, HRM Ogheneochuko Morris Egbobonye-Eyekpimi, Owhotemu II, and the Regent of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, said the Cottage Hospital would advance the delivery of healthcare service, which is a component part of his MORE Agenda for the people of the state, adding that women, children and the vulnerable would have enhanced access to quality and affordable healthcare services.

He lauded Dr Tidi for the development of the Cottage Hospital, saying; “I have come here today to inaugurate this beautiful cottage hospital. I am elated because this hospital will advance the provision of quality healthcare services for the grassroots which is a cardinal programme of this administration.

“As a grassroot politician, I am a firm believer in the bottom-top approach to development and our people must come first in everything that we do.”

At Sapele, Governor Oborevwori inaugurated Sapele Local Government Legislative Complex; the reconstructed Chairman’s office, Sapele Group of Schools, Adarighofua Road, Amukpe Market, and the Eugene Inoaghan Crescent Amukpe, Sapele.

He said; “Looking at the quality of the projects slated for inauguration today, I am proud to say that this is money well utilised.

“Chairmen have come and gone but your stay in this Council was a good choice and I commend you, your Vice-chairman, management and the legislative arm for a job well done.

“It is obvious that the narrative is changing in our various local governments. In the past, LGs were often criticised for non-performance.

“But today, the story has changed and we now see that our Councils have become more responsive and responsible to the yearnings and aspirations of our people.

“This is how it should be because we were elected to serve the people; when the people give us their votes, it is an expression of their faith and confidence in us. We are in government to meet their needs, not to gratify our selfish desires.

“I am happy that you did not disappoint your people who elected you. I urge all elected and appointees of government that are given the opportunity to serve not abuse it.

“You must not seek political office just for yourself or solely for your personal gain. Life is not measured by how much you acquired but by the kind of legacy that you leave behind.”

Former Governor of the State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan congratulated Dr Tidi on the success of his administration, adding that a lot still needed to be done in Warri and lauded Governor Oborevwori for his renewed vigour to revamp infrastructure in the oil city.

He expressed appreciation to God for the peace and security of the area, noting that the people could only witness development when there is peace among the people.

The Chairman Warri South Local Government, Dr Michael Tidi, said his administration recorded success in primary health care as part of his determination to prioritize the health and well-being of the people.

He said that in the area of the environment, the Council had ensured constant de-weeding, cleaning of drainages and regular evacuation of wastes to the dumpsite.

The Chairman of Sapele Local Government, Chief Eugene Inoaghan, said the projects embarked upon by his administration were cardinal to enhance the social-economic life of the people, and commended Governor Oborevwori for the recent approval for the construction of two roads in Sapele.

Don’t divide us, group tells Ozoro varsity Governing Council Chairman, appeals to Oborevwori

Ozoro Positive Voice has cried to His. Excellency, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State, for a matter of urgency to call the Chairman of the Governing Council, Ambassador Godson Echegile, of the newly established Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro to order over his ungodly move to relocate the Faculty Social Sciences and Management to Orerokpe Community in Okpe Local Government Area of the state on the guise of Governor’s directive.

“Historically, Ozoro and Orerokpe are brothers, as they are children of same parents, as such an Ika man cannot come to divide us for his personal acrimony and benefits,” the group said.

In the press conference held at Ozoro, Isoko North Local Headquarters, Dr. Enahoro Michael who is the leader of the group appealed to the Executive Governor who is their brother and son of the soil to jettison the devilish move of the Ambassador Echegile Godson led governing council of the university.
Dr. Enahoro said that the university is a specialized one with limited courses in line with requirements of the National Universities Commission, hence the only viable faculty is the school of social sciences and management with about seven (7) departments which is the soul and source of internally generated revenue of the institution.

He said with the upgrading of the former Ozoro Polytechnic to a university status by former Governor Okowa Arthur Ifeanyi, a lot of investors have surfaced in the Kingdom thereby boosting the economic activities of the town and its environs.
Dr. Enahoro further passionately appealed to the Governor to drop the resolution of the governing Council on the relocation plan in order to save people’s investments in the town and avoid total collapse of the newly established institution.

Rising Prices: Oborevwori asks contractors to speed up work +Photos

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has cautioned contractors working on State Government projects to speed up work in view of rising construction costs.

Speaking during the inspection of ongoing construction works at Uduere Road, Okogbe Road, Oyakhinagha Street and Edo Street, all in Ughelli on Friday, Governor Oborevwori frowned that some contractors delay projects only to seek upward review and warned that such reviews would only be done by taking into account
the percentage of work already done by applicant contractors.

Oborevwori, who was conducted round the projects by the Commissioner for Works( Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze and his Rural and Riverine Road counterpart, Mr Charles Aniagwu, said the Ughelli Ring Road contract was awarded on August 8, 2023 to help decongest traffic from the Otovwodo junction. He urged the contractors to speed up the pace of work.

Governor Oborevwori said: “I have come to ascertain the work that has been done so that we know how to channel our funds.

“I said during my inauguration that we will consolidate on existing roads and also award new ones and this road is part of the new roads that we initiated and awarded.

“Let me emphasize that the contractor must hasten up because if they continue to slow down, when the rain comes, it will wash away the sharp sand on the road.

“If they can fill and compact during this dry season and stabilise the road, we won’t have problem during rainy season. Because of the nature of this area these drains are very necessary to help evacuate water from the road and without these drains the road will not last.

“The challenge here is that the Otovwodo people dump refuse on drains; so, I want to appeal to the residents of this area to stop dumping refuse in the drain to make the water flow freely.

“I am satisfied with the quality of work I have seen today but am not satisfied with the pace of the work because, in three months from now, we are going into the rainy season and that’s my challenge.

“So, I am appealing to the contractors to see how they can work faster. We know prices are going up; so, they should not delay.

“When you delay, you are still going to do the work; so, why the delay? If you are waiting for upward review before you do your work, you are making a big mistake because we will look at the extent you have worked before any review. So, if we want to do upward review, we will do it according to the extent of work done.”

The Governor, who was also at Uti Road, Effurun, Lower and Upper Erejuwa Road, Warri, Storm Drainage Project site along Niger Cat Link road and Refinery Road, commended the contractor for doing a good job on the storm drainage, saying, “I am very happy coming back today to see that this storm drainage has been completed.

“They did a very good job here and that’s why we are giving them another work to do. In the last Exco, we approved the Phase 3 of the Warri/Effurun storm drainage and we are happy about it.”

On the Lower and Upper Erejuwa Road, Oborevwori observed that the contractor had done well, even though the pace of work was slow, and advised the contractor to speed up work because of the imminence of the rainy season.

“This road is very key because it was constructed over 50 years ago. I decided to expand the road because it was already congested and I urge the contractor to speed up the work because the people using this road find it difficult to access their houses now.

“Now that we have a very good weather, it is an opportunity for the contractor to work very fast. There are some obstructions and fences obstructing the work and they have already been paid compensation; so, they need to bring the obstacles down so that they can finish their drains.”

He also appealed to residents to stop dumping wastes in the drains, adding, that the contractor had completed the work and was about to de-silt the drains because of the upcoming rains, adding that “once they are done, we will inaugurate the storm drainage.”

At the Ohorhe – Adagbrassa – Okuediete Road with a spur to Ugwagba – Okan junction, he said that before the road was awarded on August 4, 2023, it was quite bad and not motorable.

His words: “We felt that the road serves a lot of communities hence we decided to do it and I am happy that 90 per cent of the project has been completed. They have completed the asphalt overlay, with only just a few drains remaining and once that is done, the project will be ready for inauguration.”

At the Ojiedi – Okuighele – Evriyen – Oviri Court Road in Okpe Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori expressed optimism that the road would be completed in April in readiness for May 2024 inauguration.

“Football and sports generally, remain a unifying force in our diversity and as administration in Delta State, we will continue to work towards enhancing our leadership in sports nationwide.

“To fellow Nigerians, let’s keep showing our squad the unshakeable devotion we are known for. Both wins and losses are part of the road to glory, and every game teaches us resiliency, fortitude and the strength of hope that never fades.

Despite our diversity, Delta remains one united state – Oborevwori+Photos

Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has said that despite the state being populated by different ethnic groups, the state remains one united family.

Speaking at the Ozoro Country home of former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leo Ogor, Governor Oborevwori thanked the Isoko nation for their support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the years and for his emergence as Governor of the state.

The Governor had earlier led top government functionaries including his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Member representing Isoko Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, members of the House and other top government functionaries to the funeral ceremony of Mrs Catherine Odior, mother of the member representing Isoko North State Constituency, Hon. Bernard Odior.

He reiterated his resolve to be Governor for all Deltans and lauded Hon. Leo Ogor for being an exemplary party man.

Governor Oborevwori said: “Anytime I come here I am always very happy because there is no time I come here that you don’t receive us very well.

“When I was Speaker and I used to come here with our leader the immediate past Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, we are always happy coming here because he is somebody that likes to host his people.

“We are happy to be here in your house even though we came here for a funeral service.

“Our dear leader we thank you for always standing for the party and we pray that God will continue to bless and keep you.

“You are one leader that has been very consistent because I remember when I came here on consultation you assured me and told me to go and sleep.

“You are somebody who believes in this party and I remember when we were looking for a replacement for our late Majority Leader, and the meeting was held here for almost three hours and you eventually agreed with the choice of the system in the interest of the party.

“You are a complete party man and on behalf of the Delta State Government, I thank you for always standing for the party.

“Delta State is one united family and as I have promised, I will be Governor for all Deltans.

“I want to appreciate you and we commiserate with you on the death of the mother of Hon. Bernard Odior and it is our prayer that God will grant her soul eternal rest.”

Earlier in a sermon, at the funeral service at Alaka Grammar School, Ozoro, District Superintendent of the Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, Pastor TBO Erhimu, said the best time to prepare for heaven and hell was while on earth and not in the grave.

He reminded the living of the need to give their lives to Christ to guarantee a place in heaven in death, stressing that there was no repentance in death.

The Cleric described the deceased as a mother that used her life for the service of God and humanity and charged her children to uphold her enviable legacies that endeared her to people while she was alive.

He commiserated with late Odior’s family on the death of their matriarch and urged them to cast their trust on God as the only one that can fill the gap created by her demise.

Delta ranks first in Criminal Justice Reforms – Oborevwori+Photos

Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Thursday, said the state ranked first among states in the country in Criminal Justice Reforms by the Abuja-based Centre for Socio-Legal Studies.

Governor Oborevwori stated that the state achieved the feat following the passage of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2022, and Administration of Civil Justice Law 2022 by the State House of Assembly under his leadership as Speaker.

Oborevwori stated this in his remarks during the swearing-in of three newly appointed Commissioners in Asaba, the state capital.

The new Commissioners are Mr Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; Dr Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, Commissioner for Information, and Prince Kelly Kalanama Penawou, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He described the new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ekemejero Ohwovoriole SAN as a brilliant and capable lawyer schooled in the best traditions of legal practice.

“Deep, driven, and devoted to his craft, Mr Ohwovoriole brings to the office almost 30 years of distinguished service at the Bar”.

He challenged the new Attorney-General to sustain the state’s pace setter role in Criminal Justice Reforms, adding that state’s criminal justice laws are adjudged widely to be 21st century- compliant, especially with recourse to technology.

“The transition period of both laws ended on December, 22, 2023. So, both laws are now operational in all courts in Delta State.

“The rigorous and successful implementation of these laws is, therefore, imperative for Delta State to maintain its leadership position.

“Only recently, Attorneys-General of the south-east states adopted the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2022 as their model, hailing it as “a unique framework for the administration of criminal justice.”

Oborevwori further remarked that the new Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, is a tested hand and avid communicator in the field of political communication and information management, having served meritoriously as the PDP State Publicity Secretary in the last eight years.

“His appointment as Information Commissioner is thoroughly well-deserved. Dr Osuoza, popularly known as Agenda, is a committed PDP member, humble leader, avid communicator, and relentless public commentator.

“It is my earnest expectation that he will take the government’s information management machinery to a whole new level. I expect creativity and innovation in government communication in a way that ensures optimal, fact-based projection of the policies, programmes, achievements, and activities of the government.

“One major shift I will like to see in the Information Ministry is for it to go beyond the information arena and engage in positive citizen engagement and mobilisation.

“It is my considered view that stakeholder perception audits must be integral to the operations of the information ministry.

“It should serve in the best traditions as a sensor, gathering intelligence and inputs from the citizenry that would form the basis of the policies and programmes of the government.”

Governor Oborevwori stated that the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Kelly Kalanama Penawou is a grassroots politician of immense stature with extensive experience in local government administration.

He said he expects nothing but excellence and exemplary performance from him, having served as Special Adviser on Local Government Affairs in the immediate past administration.

He charged the Commissioners to lead by example by being role models in their respective ministries.

Oborevwori said: “To the commissioners, I leave you with no charge other than the one I gave to your colleagues, and I quote.

“As heads of Ministries, your personal example is the most powerful leadership tool you possess. You must be role models in punctuality, discipline, hard work, excellence, honesty, transparency, and accountability. People will do what they see you do, not what you say. Hence, you must endeavour to match your words with actions.

“Let fairness, equity, and justice guide your actions, and you must give every citizen equal opportunity to benefit from our programmes and services. In this regard, you must shun ethnic politics and divisive tendencies. You are to maintain an open door policy in your ministries and be accessible to all and sundry.

“I wish to reassure Deltans that with the distraction of the court cases now behind us, this administration is poised to fully focus on the business of advancing Delta State through accelerated infrastructural development, more job opportunities, improved learning climate in our schools, and better working conditions for workers in the public service.

“What we have achieved in the last seven months will pale in comparison to what we are set to do in the months and years ahead. Rest assured, we are determined to make life richer, better, and more fulfilling for all Deltans”.

He charged all political appointees to roll up their sleeves and redouble their efforts to contribute their quota to the effective and successful implementation of the MORE agenda.

“We must reciprocate the massive mandate given to us by the good people of Delta State with sincerity of purpose, empathy with the people, and improved service delivery, in the discharge of our duties.”

Responding, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, expressed appreciation to God and to the Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, for finding them worthy to serve as Commissioners.

He assured Deltans of their resolve to put in their best in the service of the state through the MORE agenda.

The Deputy Governor of the State, Sir Monday Onyeme, former Deputy Governors of the state, Chief Benjamin Elue and Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, Hon. Nicholas Mutu, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, State PDP Chairman, Dr Kingsley Esiso, Senator James Manager, Olorogun J. U. Oguma, Chief Chris Agbobu, Dr Gabriel Ogbechie, among others, attended the ceremony.
