Delta APC commiserates with Oborevwori over assassin’s attack

…says PDP should stop playing politics with insecurity

The Delta All Progressives Congress, APC, Campaign Council, has received with shock the reported attack on the Delta Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Gubernatorial Candidate, House Speaker Sheriff Oborevwori, by suspected assassins.

We unequivocally condemn this attack and demand an immediate investigation and apprehension of the perpetrators by the relevant security agencies.

While we cannot say without the benefit of an investigation if this condemnable act was politically motivated or not, we make haste to say that we are all Deltans and we are all brothers and sisters.

The Delta APC is on the cusp of a historic victory. Regardless, we choose not to play politics with insecurity. We hold this so dear to heart that Enduring Peace and Security is a crucial part of our EDGE agenda.

It is in this regard that we firmly deplore the finger pointing by PDP in a matter that should be of grave concern to all. Theirs is public communication at it’s most tasteless, and should have no place in any civilized discourse.

“His brave security men rose to the occasion by engaging the suspected to be assassins in a duel which lasted for over ten minutes before the gun men took to their heels and disappeared into the thick darkness of the night. • Ndigbo in Delta endorse Oborevwori for Governor

Ndigbo in Delta endorse Oborevwori for Governor

Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo in Delta Central and Delta South Senatorial Districts of Delta State, on Thursday endorsed the Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the March 18 Governorship election in the state.

The group, in a Townhall meeting attended by the State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, in Effurun, also endorsed all the candidates of the PDP for the House of Assembly election, and said that the endorsement was in recognition of the sterling performance of the Governor and previous PDP administrations in the state.

President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Delta Central and Delta South, Chief Chinedu Idama, in his remarks said that Ndigbo in Delta would reciprocate Governor Okowa’s positive support for Ndigbos by voting enmasse for Sheriff Oborevwori and all candidates of PDP, saying “all Igbo votes are for PDP”.

In a motion for the endorsement and a vote-of-confidence on Okowa, Chief Francis Onuorah said Ndigbos were delighted with the partnership of the Okowa administration, and called on all sons and daughters of Ndigbo in the state to support Sheriff Oborevwori and all candidates of the PDP.

In his remarks, Okowa thanked leaders of Ohanaeze for the vote of confidence on his administration and for endorsing the Governorship ambition of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

He said that Igbos were worthy partners in the development of the state, and assured that Oborevwori would build on the current relationship between his administration and Ndigbo in the state.

“I thank the leaders of Ohanaeze from various states, our women and the youths of Ndigbo.

“Without the Igbos, life will be unbearable in many parts of this country because when you go into any place you find that Igbos are deeply entrenched in commerce and if they are not available in any place it is difficult to get the things needed for the day-to-day running of the family.

“The Igbos to that extent, are actually very industrious and important to every state. We are happy with the Igbos in Delta State because we know the impact they make in the various places they find themselves.

“By the grace of God we have tried to provide the enabling peace for your businesses to thrive and I know that going forward we will continue to work together for the growth and development of Delta,” he said.

Okowa urged the Igbos to support the governorship candidate of PDP, saying that Oborevwori would continue developing the state from where he would stop.

“The vote of confidence you passed on my administration, I appreciate it and may God continue to bless you.

“Yesterday I was here with our Governorship Candidate and by the grace of God our incoming Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and I am happy that you have agreed to support him and other candidates of our great party.

“I thank you for this promise and I know that you have great numbers and wherever you vote in support will be the winning side and am very sure that with the backing of the Igbos we are going to win the election on March 18.

“I came with Sheriff Oborevwori yesterday so that he will know the relationship that I have with you and i can assure you that, that relationship will never be broken because you are an important part of this state,” he said.

He urged Deltans to vote for Sheriff Oborevwori, a man of peace who would unite every part of the state and not a man who would consider only his community in the administration of the state.

“We want a man who represents peace and a man who can unite Deltans further, since 2015 we have been working to unite Deltans because when there is peace everything works.

“Peace can only be when you are not oppressed so we want a governor who will not oppress Ndigbo in Delta. We don’t want a governor who will come and make us feel that we are strangers.

“The PDP government represents peace and unity and that is what Sheriff Oborevwori will represent in the next administration.

“I know that there are several igbos that are not here today, so let us mobilise them with their PVCs and vote massively for all candidates of the PDP,” Okowa added.

2023: Oborevwori takes an oath vowing to offer pensioners, civil servants a better deal if voted gov+Photos

…promises affordable housing scheme for workers through Public/Private Partnership arrangement

…assures them of prompt payment of promotion arrears, bridge gap in payment of outstanding pension arrears.

Delta State PDP Governorship Candidate for the 2023 general elections and National Deputy Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has assured Civil Servants and retirees of a fair deal, if elected Governor in the March 11th, 2023, Governorship Election.

Specifically, he said he would strive to promptly pay promotion arrears of Civil Servants and work hard to bridge the payment gap of outstanding pension Arrears to retirees in the state.

At an Interactive session between him and Civil Servants, on Monday, March 6th, 2023 at the Professor Chike Edozie Secretariat Complex, Asaba, Rt Hon Oborevwori, also said if elected Governor, he would ensure the promotion of staff as at when due.

According to him; he will strongly consider upward review of car and housing loans. We are going to work hard to bridge the payment gap of outstanding pension Arreas to retirees, adding that he will make pension payment more efficient by making funds available on time.

Oborevwori who is also the longest Speaker in the history of Delta State also said that; “If elected Governor, I will ensure the health insurance scheme becomes more accessible to subscribers. My government will ensure that collective bargaining mechanism will be my mantra. There will be affordable Housing scheme for workers through Public/Private Partnership arrangement. Lastly, training and retraining for capacity building will take a prime position”.

Also speaking at the occasion, the State Head of Service, Mr. R. O. E. Bayako, thanked the workers for their responsive attitude during the interactive session and solicited their votes for him, assuring that Oborevwori is a leader conversant with the needs and desires of the workers and will implement every promised he has made.

  • Delta: Organised labour affirms support for Oborevwori

Delta: Organised labour affirms support for Oborevwori

Delta State chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have affirmed their support for the governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 11 election, Sheriff Oborevwori.

The organised labour unions said they had always worked cordially with and benefitted from PDP governments and would have no other choice than to support the continuation of party at the Government House, Asaba.

The decision to support Oborevwori was
reached during an interactive session between the workers and the PDP candidate in Asaba.

Speaking during the session, chairman of NLC in Delta, Goodluck Ofobruku said labour movement in the state has been
“blessed with promise keeping governors right from the administration of James Ibori who supported greatly in the building of the Labour House. Also, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan came in and continued the good work from there.

“I will like to say that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was exceptional in fulfilling most, if not all of the demands of labour before becoming governor.

“When Okowa came in as governor and then the revenue of the state had dropped to N2 billion monthly while the state’s wage bill was N8 billion, he made workers salaries a priority. In spite of promoting workers whose promotions were due as and when due, he went ahead to agree with labour to calculate pensions with N18,000 minimum wage as against N7,500 that he met on ground.

“Going forward, out of the N78 billion arrears owed pensioners, he has offset about N70 billion. The issue of local government workers came up and people were saying all sorts of things because they don’t know the workings of the civil service. Let me tell you that Okowa has supported local governments immensely to pay workers, including offsetting some pension arrears even when he was not their direct employer.

“I want to conclude by saying that Governor Okowa has given workers in the state the best environment to work and add value to the system, and that is the new secretariat. No worker now has any reason to complain not to do their job well.

“The only thing that Okowa has not completed its process, is the housing scheme for workers, even though he has built a low cost one for junior workers, which is on the verge of being handed over. We will like Oborevwori to look in this direction by making most workers landlords before completing his tenures.

“We will definitely support Oborevwori, because he is personally a good man. Majority of us here know him, and for the fact that he turned around the fortunes of workers in the state House of Assembly, is worthy of commendation. Our affiliate union chairman of PASAN can attest to what he did to stop the incessant strikes in that union. We believe he will do more for workers across the state.”

On his part, the TUC chairman, Martins Bolum said he had the authority and mandate of TUC members to adopt Oborevwori as their governorship candidate of choice, adding that he is being considered an important instrument for the next level development of workers in the state.

Bolum eulogized Oborevwori for the quality laws he had passed as the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, which mostly had immensely benefitted workers.

“We want more from your wealth of experience and good nature leadership. As active participants in the electioneering process, I want to assure you that TUC is solidly behind you.

“We want a governor we know and a governor we can trust. We will more than ever before, intensify efforts towards telling our members and others the good news about Oborevwori’s governorship,” he said.

Addressing the workers, Oborevwori outlined his plans for the workforce in the state, saying that if elected, his administration would bequeath to workers houses of their own under a low cost housing scheme through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) and direct government intervention.

Oborevwori promised to appoint a vast labour leader into his Interim Transition Committee to profile the myriads of workers’ demands for priority attention in his administration, if elected.

The candidate took the audience through his own life experiences, noting that his street credibility was earned.

“I am a local man, made locally as a boy. I have street credibility because of where I am coming from. Being street wise does not mean I am a tout; my street credibility is all about accessibility and ability to interact with all. They can’t beat my local flavour.

“My story is an interesting one. As at 1984, I already had my Ordinary National Diploma. I had been a Councillor and then the youngest host community Chairman in Osubi. I worked with SHELL and the footprints of our achievements with the Osubi airport are still there for everybody to see. I was trained in the art of negotiations.

“The records are there that I went to Edo State University, Ekpoma where I graduated with 2.1 before obtaining my M.Sc in Political Science from Delta State University, Abraka. Because I have been a local man, doing things at the local level, they believe I didn’t go to school. In all the court cases, God has continued to see me through.

“Let me tell you, an illiterate and uncertificated person cannot lead the Delta State House of Assembly where the likes of Hon. Reuben Izeze are key threats for almost six years. Have you heard of any impeachment notice? It takes a man with intellectual capacity and impeccable track record of conflict management to lead such a place and becoming the longest on the saddle as Speaker.

“I want to assure you that Governor Okowa has done so much to develop Delta, I will do MORE in my development agenda. I am prepared, I have my social contract with Deltans well and aptly documented. Let’s do this together and nobody will regret it. Vote for me as the right candidate with the capacity to do more for you and the entire Deltans,” Oborevwori appealed.

  • Delta 2023: Oborevwori leads in three separate polls – By Dr Festus Okubor

Delta 2023: Oborevwori leads in three separate polls – By Dr Festus Okubor

The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has thrice in the last five days demonstrated that he is the leading candidate in next month’s governorship election.

This new pointer to his being the leading candidate in the election emerged from three different polls freshly conducted with results analyzed and released a day ago. The three bodies that conducted the opinion polls are; Good Governance Alliance (GGA), A New Order Now (ANON) and The Future of Delta (TFD). While the first two, GGA and ANON are Lagos and Asaba based organizations respectively, TFD is a Warri based research think tank. While GGA and ANON conducted their polls online, TFD conducted a hybrid poll deploying online and real time.

The polls spread across the twenty-five local councils and ensured the participation of people of different age groups and professionals as well as market women.

GGA based its poll on yardsticks that are the pillars of good governance such as: manifesto, vision and mission, campaign content, character and integrity, acceptability, education and knowledge, understanding of governance and development issues in Delta State and Consensus building in a multi-ethnic state. Of the two thousand respondents who participated in the poll seventy-two percent of them gave thumbs up for Oborevwori as the candidate whose track records, manifesto, vision and mission and campaign content suit Delta State.

They also rate him very high in terms of acceptability and understanding of governance and development issues in Delta State. Oborevwori scored distinctively on consensus building in a multi-ethnic state. The respondents ascribed sixteen percent to the Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC) whom many of them described as having abandoned real campaign issues and taken on abuses, inflammatory language and hate speech. All the respondents scored him zero on consensus building.

The polls also projected Oborevwori to win in twenty-one out of the twenty-five local government councils. Omo-Agege is projected to win three while Chief Great Ogboru of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) who got twelve percent will win one.

Similarly, the poll conducted by ANON also puts Oborevwori far ahead of the other candidates. ANON based its poll on the following: manifesto and campaign message, capacity and the ideals of Delta State, antecedents and trust as well as pan-Delta vision. The respondents scored Oborevwori high on all the yardsticks and he chalked up seventy-one percent of the three thousand respondents’ approval. Omo-Agege and Ogboru came second and third with nineteen and ten percent respectively. However, Oborevwori is projected to win twenty out of the twenty-five local councils, while Omo-Agege and Ogboru will win four and one respectively. Omo-Agege again scored zero on pan-Delta vision.

The polls by the Warri based TFD also projected Oborevwori as the clear winner. The criteria used here are: manifesto and campaign content, reception of campaign message, pan-Delta character, integrity, acceptability and character. Oborevwori again did very well accumulating seventy-two percent from the two thousand respondents. However, while Ogboru came second with sixteen percent, Omo-Agege came third with twelve percent therefore marking a difference with the other two polls. The TFD polls projected Oborevwori to win in twenty-one local government councils, while Ogboru and Omo-Agege shared the other four with both of them winning two each.

Many of the respondents rated Oborevwori high for what they called his political consistency, staying power and learning the ropes cutting across executive and legislative arms.

They also ascribed a lot of political experience to him for running the most stable House of Assembly in the history of Delta State and for being the longest Speaker ever with the rare feat of being re-elected. As for the issue of integrity and character, most of the respondents said that the Supreme Court rested that matter and cleared him last year.

They also see him as a pan-Delta leader who will run the State as one and based on consensus. His manifesto which he anchored on MORE (Meaning development Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms and Enhanced peace and security) was also highly rated because the respondents saw it as speaking to the peculiarities of Delta State.

They consider him as one with demonstrable capacity.

The three opinion polls coming just about one month to the Delta State governorship election should be seen as a final predication on the outcome of the election.

Hon. Oborevwori has, as the three polls indicated, done well in articulating the right message and perspective in his bid to govern Delta State. He has also taken his message round the State in an amicable manner.

The majority of Deltans have also come to identify with his message and aspiration.

The National President of NADESSTU, Comrade Okorocha Nkwor Gabriel, in a motion he moved endorsing the Delta State PDP Governorship Candidate, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori when he had interactive session with the students, said that the Governorship candidate has done so much in the State since he became the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

Oborevwori who took out time to educate the students why more Universities were established by the administration of Governor Okowa, said that Governor Okowa had done so much for students in the state and promised to do more if voted as a governor.

He implored the students to vote for the Atiku-Okowa ticket for the nation to rise again, saying that the All Progressive Congress (APC) collapsed everything in the country and it was time to get it right again.

“The Atiku-Okowa ticket is the only ticket that can reset and rescue our country and so vote for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, vote for me and my running mate, Sir Monday Onyeme and all other PDP candidates in the 2023 general elections”, he said.

“Today, Nigerians are in agony under the failed All Progressives Congress,APC government. There is severe hardship, hunger, unemployment, insecurity, fear and gloom everywhere. You can all testify that our nation was far better and safer in terms of living conditions of the people, when the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, was in power. The PDP is the only hope to rescue Nigeria from the negative government of APC which has totally destroyed our economy”, Rt Hon Oborevwori said.

He enjoined them to support him and other PDP candidates with their voices and votes for the good and betterment of all.

“Join us to rebuild Nigeria and reclaim her lost glory.Let me conclude with all sense of modesty and responsibility that, I have performed creditably well as Speaker of Delta state House of Assembly with the active support of my colleagues. I therefore solicit your collaboration as influencers in the society and pledge to serve faithfully as governor with the M. O. R. E. Agenda”, he stated.
