Oyebanji added that the company currently owns several prime properties in its real estate portfolio fully rented to blue chip tenants.

“Fuel margins in the industry have remained stagnant for several years in the highly competitive and regulated industry.

“However, in the short term, cash flow and EBITDA could be under strain as a result of funds needed to renovate and upgrade the hotel to attract a 5-star branding.”

  • Customs operatives raid popular Abuja hotel, give reasons

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said operation of its officers and men at Fraiser Suit Hotel in Abuja was to remove some suspected vehicles hidden there.

The Customs’ Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Attah made this known in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

Attah explained that the operation was carried out based on intelligence report that some exotic cars were taken to the hotel from cars mart to evade payment of duties.

“Our attention has been drawn to misinformation making the rounds concerning visit of our operatives to an Abuja Hotel to remove suspected smuggled vehicles.

“Our operatives relying on intelligence that owners of some exotic cars including bullet proof without duty payment quickly removed their vehicles from a car mart and took same to Frasier Hotel, Abuja.

“On arrival at the hotel, our operatives interacted with the manager and eventually left with four vehicles, leaving six behind, while expecting the manager to provide the keys to those six,’’ he explained.

He said the manager of the hotel visited the customs headquarters Thursday morning and dropped a written undertaking to produce a Customs vehicle duty payment documents to support his claim that the vehicles were not smuggled.

“We assured him of prompt release of the vehicles as soon as evidence of appropriate duty payments is presented.

“Unfortunately, we woke up to mischievous misrepresentation, our operation has nothing to do with the guests in the hotel.

“Some even went as far as saying that the operatives went from room to rooms waking up guests to come out for vehicle verification. That is untrue.’’

He said that NCS did not engage in such thing and had no intention to start raiding hotels.

The spokesperson urged Nigerians to be wary of social media posts and also enjoined members of the public to discountenance the fabrication as Customs would continue to work in the interest of Nigerians.

  • Gunmen attack Somali hotel, kill prominent journalist, 25 others

At least 26 people, including a prominent journalist and several foreigners, have been killed in an attack on a hotel in southern Somalia.
A suicide bomber rammed a car containing explosives into the Asasey hotel in the port of Kismayo, and gunmen then stormed the building
Journalist Hodan Naleyah and her husband are thought to be among the dead.
Islamist group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
A local politician, three Kenyans, three Tanzanians, two Americans, and one Briton were also killed, authorities say.
    How did the attack unfold?
Regional politicians and clan elders were inside the hotel discussing a forthcoming regional election when the attack began.
Witnesses said they heard a huge blast before several heavily armed men forced their way in.
“There is chaos inside, I saw several dead bodies carried from the scene and people are fleeing from the nearby buildings,” one witness, Hussein Muktar, said during the attack.
It took several hours for authorities to regain control over the hotel.
Regional President Ahmed Mohamed put the death toll at 26 with more than 50 people wounded. Four attackers were also killed in the raid.
    Who were the victims?
Local media and a Somali journalists’ association said Nalayeh, 43, and her husband Farid were among the dead.
Nalayeh founded the media platform Integration TV to tell stories about life in Somalia and in the Somali diaspora. Recent episodes had focused on Somalia’s female entrepreneurs and things to do in the city of Las Anod.
She moved to Canada with her family when she was six years old and went on to become a figurehead of the Somali community there. But the mother of two had recently returned to Somalia.
Tributes have been paid to her, with BBC journalist Farhan Jimale calling her “a beautiful soul” while Canada’s immigration minister Ahmed Hussen said she was a “voice for many”.
The Somali Journalists Syndicate said that Nalayeh and another reporter also killed in Kismayo, Mohamed Omar Sahal, were the first journalists to be killed in the country this year.
How common is this type of attack?
Somalia sees frequent militant attacks but after al-Shabab was driven out of Kismayo in 2012 the port has been relatively peaceful.
The militants have been carrying out regular attacks in the capital Mogadishu, despite the heavy presence of African Union peacekeepers and US-trained Somali troops.
Al-Shabab is affiliated with al-Qaeda and remains a powerful presence in rural Somalia.

  • Kanu Nwankwo broken as AMCON allegedly takeover his hotel, medals

Kanu Nwankwo broken as AMCON allegedly takeover his hotel, medals

Former Super Eagles’ captain, Nwankwo Kanu is currently a sad man. Yesterday in Victoria Island, Lagos, the former Arsenal of England striker almost broke down in tears following the realisation that some people are bent on taking over his hotel.

The hotel, Hardley Apartment, is subject of a court case over an alleged unrepaid bank loan.A disillusioned Kanu told journalists that the case between him and Assets Management Company (AMCON) has been on since 2015 at the Federal High Court Ikoyi, Lagos, adding he did not understand why AMCON would start renovating his property when the court has not decided the case.

He disclosed that most of his valued property, including his medals and Olympic torch, has been looted, lamenting, “it is quit unfortunate that a legendary star, who gave his best to the country would be treated like this.

“This hotel serves many purposes. I have been using the money I get here to fund my heart foundation and also create jobs for people. Over 500 children are on the line for surgery and 200 are on the waiting list.

“Since the hotel has not been functioning, I find it difficult to get funds to assist these children. I have to go the extra mile to beg for funds. This is not fair. The government always tells former footballers not to invest overseas after retirement. They tell us to come back home and invest. I came back to invest and see what I am facing.“Is this a good experience for other upcoming footballers? Everybody knows I made my money from football. I deserve to be treated well in my country.

“I am Kanu Nwankwo not a foreigner. Right now I need my medals because they are what I will show my children that I served the country with all my heart when they grow up.” Kanu said the case was last heard in 2018 and then adjourned to January 31, 2019, adding that he was surprised to see that some people have taken possession of the hotel.

“They broke into my hotel without permission from the court. This is injustice to me for a country I gave my best,” he lamented. The Atlanta 1996 gold medallist called on the appropriate authority to wade into the matter, saying he thought the best thing to do was to wait for the court’s verdict based on the law of the land. All efforts to get AMCON’s view on the matter proved abortive as officials seen at the hotel premises said they were not permitted to talk to the media.
