    Flood: Niger Delta lawmakers demand sack of Humanitarian minister, Sadiya Farooq

    The House of Representatives members under the aegis of Niger Delta Caucus has demanded the sack of the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Farouq following her comments over the raging flood in the area.

    The Lawmakers made this known during a press briefing on Monday, they expressed their displeasure with the comment made by Sadiya that Jigawa state  is most affected by the flood.

    Sadiya had also dismissed Bayelsa state as being in top 10 most affected states in the country.

    The group led by Fred Agbedi, and others from the region asked the president to sack the minister or they will be forced to take action.

    “We call on the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to honourably resign her appointment as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria failing which Mr President should relieve her of her appointment immediately,” he said.

    Also speaking at the briefing, Bob Solomon, a lawmaker from Rivers State, said the minister has a history of playing politics with intervention.

    Abiante Dagomie, another lawmaker from Rivers State, said Bayelsa and other states in the Niger Delta region are currently submerged by flood and urged President Buhari to take action while he noted that no dredging has been done along the major channels of rivers that empty in the delta in the past 30 years.

    Flood hampered economic, Agricultural  and political activities in many Niger Delta and Northern states of the country.

    Kagara abduction: Humanitarian Minister appeals for safe return of students

    Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has appealed for the release and safe return of 27 students of the Government Science College in Kagara, Niger State.Farouq, who made the call in statement issued by her media aide Nneka Anibeze, condemned the abduction in its entirety and prayed for the immediate and safe return of the students. 

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday left one student dead.
    ““Our prayers are with the students and staff as well as family members of students of Government Science College, Kagara, in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger, where 27 students, three staff and 12 of their family members were abducted by gunmen.
    “We pray for the repose of the soul of the student who was killed and comfort for his family even as we condemn the abduction of these young students.
    “All of us at the Ministry are praying for their rescue, safe return and that this is resolved soon,” she said.KAGAR

    I forgive those who accused me of hoarding COVID-19 palliatives – Humanitarian Minister

    Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq, said she has forgiven those who accused her of hiding COVID-19 palliatives meant for the poor.

    She stated this while fielding questions from journalists in Gusau on Monday in Gusau.

    “I am aware many people have made various spurious allegations and accusations against my person and my ministry over the way we distributed Federal Government palliatives to cushion the effect of COVID-19.

    “I have always said I am carrying out my duties and responsibilities to the best of my ability and with fairness to all parts of the country.

    “Now that they have realised their mistakes, l will only pray to God to forgive us all,” she maintained.

    The minister had earlier paid homage to the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, where the monarch appealed to the federal government to take second look at the security situation in the state.

    “The federal government should support the state in opening more access roads to expose the hideouts of criminal elements and give security operatives easier access to counter all terrorists.

    “We should also be considered for more federal appointments because currently, we only have one federal permanent secretary.

    “I want to assure you that we will continue to support all federal government programmes geared towards improving the wellbeing of the people,” the emir said.
