Nigerian army confirms killing of #EndBadGovernance child protester

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of a 16-year-old Ismail Mohammed, a #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protester in the Samaru community in Zaria, Kaduna State.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) had earlier reported that a boy child identified as Ismail Muhammad was killed by Nigerian military enforcing a curfew in Zaria, Kaduna State on Tuesday, August, 6th.

Confirming the development, the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyeama  in a statement titled “Unfortunate death of a protester by a soldier in Zaria” explained that the incident happened on Tuesday when troops received a distress call to help disperse some hoodlums, who had gathered in Samaru burning tyres and attacking security personnel.

Nwachukwu said that a waring shot was fired by a soldier to scare the mob who attempted to attack the troops, which led to Mohammed’s death.

Army spokesman added that the soldier involved has since been arrested and is undergoing interrogation.

The statement read, “On August 6, 2024, troops of the Nigerian Army received a distress call that some hoodlums gathered in Samaru in large numbers, burning tyres on the road and pelting stones at security personnel. The troops immediately mobilised and arrived at the scene to disperse the mob and enforce the curfew imposed by the state government.

“On arrival at the scene, the hoodlums brazenly attempted attacking the troops prompting a soldier to fire a warning shot to scare the hoodlums away, which unfortunately led to the death of a 16-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed. The soldier involved has since been arrested and is undergoing interrogation as of the time of this report.

“Saddened by the unfortunate incident, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, has sent a high-powered delegation led by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj Gen Lander Saraso, to visit and condole with the family of the deceased.

“The deceased was buried according to Islamic rites with senior military officers of the Nigerian Army in attendance.”

Hunger protest: You have made your point, dialogue with government – Ovie Of Idjerhe begs Nigerian youths

The Ovie of Great Idjerhe Kingdom, King Obukowho Monday Whiskey has pleaded with the Nigerian youths to suspend the ongoing nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the hardship protest commenced August 1st, and will run for ten days, ending August 10th.

The protest, so far, saw the non-participation of the Igbo people, extreme violence of the northern States and a largely peaceful protest in the South.

Speaking, the monarch in a statement sighted by TNG on Tuesday, commended the protesters who were peaceful in their demostration, however, condemned the looting and destruction of private and public properties across the country.

King Obukowho noted that violent protest can not bring the solutions the youths seek, adding that, rather than destroy, the energy should be channeled towards dialogue and resolutions to address national interest.

He emphazied that the concerns raised should be critically appraised, urging that issues affecting the ordinary Nigerians must be looked into using the father-and-son relationship approach.

He further called on government at all levels in the country to design policies to tackle the nation’s multifaceted problems, stressing that the federal government can not do it alone.

The statement reads; “In the last five days, I have watched and followed the hunger and #EndBadGovernance protests across our motherland with keen interest. The protests have recorded mixed feelings. I commend the protesters who peacefully made their demands to the Nigerian government. I am also bewildered to watch the destruction of private and public property by some elements who hijacked the protest to loot our people.

“I cannot help but conclude that the core messages of hunger, insecurity, inflation, and the noticeable disconnect between the ruling class and the ordinary Nigerian have been well passed, and it’s time for true reflections and frank talk.

“The avoidable deaths and destruction of properties, including outright looting businesses, in the course of the protests in some parts of the country cannot and will not bring needed solutions. But I must commend our young children, who have conducted themselves well during the period of the protest. No doubt, there is hardship on the land. Our people are hungry, but the government has assured us they are doing everything to lift Nigerians out of this present phase.

“We should redirect our energy and human resources towards using dialogue and alternative dispute resolutions to address issues of national interest, as the patriotic desire of mass protest promoters has now been hijacked and serious care is required to come out of this without collateral damages. I passionately beg you, my children, to suspend the protest in the interest of our country.

“Peaceful protest, as enshrined in the nation’s constitution, does not give room for these wanton destructions of private and public properties. The President, as a true Democrat and father, should look between the lines and adopt a more people-oriented approach to resolving this national uprising.

“The issue raised should be critically appraised, and the needed solutions that can address those issues that are affecting the living standards of ordinary Nigerians should be looked into using the father-and-son relationship approach.

“Let’s look inward and promote things that unite the nation rather than things that divide us. Let peace reign supreme in our land.

“I solemnly call on the government at all levels in the country to urgently design policies and programmes especially in the areas of security and agriculture, to tackle the nation’s multifaceted problems. The federal government cannot do it alone. The states and local governments must collaborate with the centre irrespective of political linings, to save our motherland.”

The statement reads; The Kaduna State Security Council under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, following a review of the security situation in the State, hereby notifies citizens of the following:”

In view of this unfortunate development, the Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously resolved to impose a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria Metropolises and environs with immediate effect

Katsina: Police reacts to viral video of Officer killed with armoured tank during hunger protest

The Katsina State Police Command has dismissed the claims alleging that its officers was run over by a police water armoured tank.

This comes after a viral video of a police armored tank captured dispersing a sparse number of protesters participating against the ongoing #hunger protest in the state ‘ran over a policeman’.

The affected ‘policeman’, dressed in green uniform, wielding a weapon, was captured in a pool of blood, lying on the ground as onlookers surrounded him in an attempt to resuscitate him.

The X handler @DEGEO7 had captioned the video: “In the peak of unprofessionalism, a careless policeman killed his colleague and harmed civilians in Katsina.”

Reacting, the state police spokesperson, Aliyu on Saturday said the Nigeria Police Force does not have any record of such incident.

The Katsina police spokesperson said, “First of all, that is not a policeman from the way he is dressed and we do not also have such a dress code in the police.

“Secondly, the way things went on Thursday, during the protest, it is expected to see a heavy presence of security.

“So, I do not see where a policeman would be lying motionless and the security personnel would not come to their rescue at that particular moment.

“In a nutshell, that incident did not happen in Katsina. It was a mischievous attempt to undermine the efforts of security agencies, particularly the police command in Katsina because we didn’t record any incident like that.”
