    Popular Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa has declared support for the ongoing call for the total eradication of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

    The acclaimed Fuji artiste left his Lagos abode to join the protesters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Friday.

    Osupa was amongst the crowded protesting youths that locked down Challenge area of Ibadan on Friday as the demonstration against police brutality by Nigerian youths continues.

    The Fuji musician insisted that the protest was a sign that the country’s massive young population is now finding its voice.

    He added that this is the reason the youths were demanding transformations in the country.

    He said, “I am happy joining other youths, we are protesting for them to put an end to police brutality, it’s way beyond just ending SARS.

    “Even after they have announced it, there are several other things we are talking about”.

    Two brothers, others captured for fraud in Ibadan

    Two brothers, Ayoola Timilehin, Olusola Timilehin, and others have been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibadan zonal office, for cyber crime.

    They were arrested at their hideout yesterday at Alaka in Elebu area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

    The Head, Media & Publicity of the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale noted that the suspects were arrested based on intelligence linking them with riches without any identifiable means of livelihood

    The other three suspects arrested with them were Temitope Kumuyi, Babatunde Oyelakin and Olanrewaju Ibrahim. They are all aged between 20 and 30 years.

    Items recovered from them included four cars, laptops, exotic phones and a stamp bearing the identity of the bursary section of Queensland University’s School of Medicine, Australia.

    Oyewale said the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded

    I murdered after my escape- Re-arrested Ibadan serial killings suspect

    Barely two days after his escape from police custody, prime suspect in Ibadan serial killings, Sunday Shodipe said he killed again.

    He made this known on Wednesday at Oyo State police command headquarters at Eleyele after his re-arrest on Sunday.

    The suspect said he killed one Mrs Funmilayo Oladeji at her home, two days after disappearing from custody on August 11.

    The 19-year-old said he attacked the woman with a machete, cutting her several times on the head, adding that a juju priest with whom he was detained warned that there would be spiritual consequences if he did not commit more murders.

    He said the fetish priest put him under pressure to escape in order to continue killing.

    Shodipe was paraded with other suspects, including those linked to the Okeho bank robbery on July 29.

    Commissioner of Police Nwachukwu Enwonwu said the suspects would be handed over to the correctional centre, adding that the policeman involved in Shodipe’s escape is “paying dearly for it” in custody.

    Notorious 19 years old serial killer in Ibadan, Sunday Shodipe, who was rearrested by the Oyo State Police command has confessed to killing another victim, Mrs. Oladeji Funmilayo after he made an escape from police custody last Sunday.

    He, however, said the herbalist who was detained with him ordered him to escape from the cell to shed more blood to appease spirits tormenting him.

    The suspect, during his parade alongside other 32 criminals by the Oyo State Police Commissioner, CP Joe Nwachuwu Enwonwu he escaped from police custody in order to get more blood to appease some spirits tormenting the life of the herbalist with whom he was in detention. The suspect clarified that he was the actual Sunday Sodipe that escaped from police custody, but re-arrested on August 13, 2020.

    “The herbalist with whom I was detained told me to escape from detention to provide blood to appease some spirits who were sucking his (herbalist) blood since he could no longer get access to hard drinks and other ingredients like colanuts, alligator pepper which he was using to offer sacrifice in the cell.”

    Confessing how he went back to Akinyele area to kill the woman, he said: “After I escaped from Mokola Police cell in Ibadan, I went to do what Baba Adedokun asked me to do to save him from dying.

    “I went from Moniya where I used to live to Akinyele and used an object to hack the woman. Blood gushed out and I recited what Baba always said I should recite, mentioning his name. I disappeared as usual but did not know whether the woman died”, he narrated.

    “I don’t have any charm. I don’t know what Baba Adedokun was using me for. He said it was my initial confession that kept him in detention and that if I had not confessed and mentioned his name as the person using him, both of us would have been out”, he explained.

    CP Nwachuwu said: “Shodipe confessed that he inflicted machete injury on the woman’s head and left her in the pool of her own blood. “The victim who was brutally attacked by the notorious killer was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where she later gave up the ghost”.

    Grace Oyin-Adejobi, a popular veteran Yoruba actress fondly called Iya Osogbo, has narrated how an excited fan nearly ran her over with a car while trying to greet her in Ibadan.

    The aged role interpreter made this known on Wednesday when she featured on a radio magazine programme on Space 90.1FM.

    Iya Oshogbo said she was stunned when the fan explained that her action was borne out of excitement, adding that the incident will remain indelible to her.

    “The fan eventually came down from her car to let me know that she merely wanted to exchange greetings with me. She later enveloped ten thousand naira and dashed me,” she said.

    Grace, who is the wife of Oyin Adejobi, a late Yoruba actor, also said she decided to call it quits on acting because of her advancing age.

    She debunked claims that she rode to prominence after she featured in ‘Eran Iya Osogbo’, noting that she had made name for herself before the movie.

    The actress, who will clock 90 on Sunday, said there would be no formal event to mark the occasion due to federal government’s COVID-19 directives.

    “All my admirers including colleagues and family members have agreed to postpone whatever plan they have to celebrate my 90th birthday because we must obey NCDC’s COVID-19 prevention rules,” she said.

    She stated that the loss of her husband as well as her fourth child as the lowest points in life.

    How 19-year-old Ibadan suspected serial killer escaped from our cell – CP

    The Commissioner, Oyo State Police Command, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, has offered details of how suspected serial killer, 19-year-old Sunday Shodipo, escaped form police custody.

    The CP gave the explanation when he spoke with newsmen on Monday.

    Enwonwu said Shodipo escaped from police custody at Mokola Police Division, Ibadan on August 11, 2020 around 7pm.

    He said an Inspector of Police, who was not on duty, collected the keys to the cell and opened it to take the suspect to have his bath,

    He said from there, Shodipo ran away.

    He said efforts had commenced to re-arrest him by all stakeholders who are law abiding police personnel, community leaders, youth vigilantes and hunters among others.

    He said the Inspector of Police had been defaulted, detained and presently facing orderly room trial, which would be concluded by the end of Monday (today).

    Enwonwu said: “In addition, whoever must have been involved in this sordid misconduct would not be spared.

    “The measures we have taken to deal with criminals in the state has been to strategise crime control mechanisms of proactive policing, which emphasises community policing partnership with all the stakeholders, other security agencies, military, vigilante, hunters, traditional rulers, etc.

    “We collaborate, cooperate and it has been working positively.

    “We also do visibility policing and patrols, raids of criminal hideouts on regular basis.

    “It paid off in Okeho bank robbery, where we recovered five assault rifles and arrested five suspects so far.

    “We have arrested several of them, including car snatchers, armed robbers, kidnappers and other criminal elements.”

    EFCC arrests three corps members, 19 undergraduates for alleged internet fraud in Ibadan

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal Office, has arrested 32 alleged internet fraudsters in the city.
    Th arrest was contained in a statement signed by its Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday.
    According to the statement, the suspects included three corps members, 19 undergraduates and 10 others.
    Oyewale stated that the suspects were apprehended during a raid on their hideout in Ogbomoso area of Oyo State.
    He stated that officers of the commission swooped on the hideout “after diligent analysis of a series of intelligence gathered on their criminal activities.
    “Three of the suspects claimed to be members of the National Youth Service Corps, while 19 said they were undergraduates in various universities across the country.
    “The remaining 10 laid claim to sundry vocations,” Oyewale said.
    He stated that 12 exotic cars, several phones, laptops and some incriminating documents were recovered at the point of arrest.

    The commision’s spokesman also said that the suspects were subjected to thorough screening by the commision’s medical officials, in line with the COVID-19 protocols.
    He stated that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.

    FG seals off Ibadan factory over UI student’s death

    The Federal Government has sealed an Ibadan-based factory, Expand Global Manufacturing Limited, where a 21-year-old student of University of Ibadan Richard Gbadebo, died on July 28.

    The factory located in Oluyole area of the city was sealed on Wednesday by officials of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the deceased, who was a worker in the factory, was also a 300-level student of the University of Ibadan

    The deceased was reported to have slipped into a soap making machine and died during production.

    Mr Femi Fatoki, the Federal Controller of Labour in Oyo State, said the factory was sealed based on findings from a preliminary investigation.

    “Immediately we got knowledge of the accident, we came for a report. We came here and we could not do more.

    “But despite that, we were able to put up a preliminary investigation and it was based on the preliminary investigation that we ordered the sealing up of the factory.

    “And this order is in conformity with Section 38 of the Nigeria Factory Act.

    ” It has been identified as a dangerous workplace and the record said we should seal it up,” he said.

    Dr Adaora Obu, a staff of the labour ministry, said the preliminary investigation was inconclusive, adding that investigation was still ongoing.

    She said that some contraventions had been identified and these had been communicated to the company’s manager in writing

    “We are still investigating, looking into the autopsy report and all that. So, when we finish with the investigation, I am sure there would be a statement,” she said.

    Ritualists arrested over recent killings in Ibadan

    Some suspected ritualists have been arrested by the police for the serial killings in Akinyele area of Ibadan.

    The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security, Mr Fatai Owoseni, disclosed this while addressing a town hall meeting in Akinyele on Wednesday. The meeting was organized by a private radio station JAMZ 100.1 FM.

    Owoseni said the suspects would soon be paraded by the Oyo State Police Command.

    He said: “Even though there is no town where there is no sin, I can assure you as I speak that the perpetrators of the killings in Akinyele have been apprehended.

    “As of yesterday, the criminals have been apprehended and the Commissioner of Police would possibly hold a press conference today. But I can specifically tell you that the person behind it has taken police to the ritualists and they are now behind the bars.”

    Owoseni emphasized the need for residents to be security conscious, stressing that everyone has a role to play in securing communities.

    Five people had been hacked to death in strange situations in the community in the last two months. They included a 29-year old expectant mother, two undergraduates, and a child.

    A renowned industrialist from Ibadanland, Chief Bode Akindele, is dead.

    According to reports, the Parakoyi of Ibadanland died Monday morning at his Apapa, Lagos residence. He was aged 88.

    Chief Bode Akindele’s business empire operates under the name Modandola Group of Companies. The Madandola Group’s areas of interest cover maritime, properties, manufacturing, real estate, investments, finance, and flour milling with its headquarters in the United Kingdom.

    Chief Bode Akindele was born 88 years ago, precisely on the 2nd of June 1932. His father, Pa Joshua Laniyan Akindele, was a Chief Tax Clerk for the whole of the Western Region and his mother, Rabiatu Adedigba, a wealthy and politically influential Ibadan trader, was the first woman to go to Mecca in Ibadan.

    Condolence messages have started pouring in for the late industrialist. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, in his condolence message, described the death of the foremost Ibadan businessman and philanthropist as a great loss to the state and indeed, Nigeria.

    Makinde, who described the late Parakoyi of Ibadanland and chairman of Modandola Group, as a worthy elder statesman and someone who was genuinely interested in the wellbeing of others, said that the late businessman would be sorely missed.

    A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as saying that the late Akindele contributed in no small measure to the growth of the state and his community.

    The governor also commiserated with the family of the late statesman, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and the entire people of Oyo State, praying that the good Lord would grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

    The governor said, “The news of the death of our revered elder statesman, Chief Bode Akindele, the Parakoyi of Ibadanland and chairman, Modandola Group, came to us as a shock.

    “Baba Akindele was one of the worthy elder statesmen in the state and he lived a life worthy of emulation. As an elder, he was always after the progress and wellbeing of the state and its people.

    “I remember that only a few months ago when the state put out calls for support towards the Oyo State COVID-19 Endowment Fund, Baba Akindele was one of the elders who responded by donating N25 million to the state.

    “It is sad that we lost such a noble elder and philanthropist at such a moment as this.

    “I pray to God to grant his entire family and the state the fortitude to bear this loss’
