    Why I shed tears when Olamide left my record label, Coded Tunes – ID Cabasa

    Prominent music producer, Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa has relayed his feelings when one of his best signee, Olamide left his record label, Coded Tunes.

    According to Cabasa, he shed tears when Olamide said his goodbye to him and his record label years back.

    Appearing on the ‘Afrobeats Podcast,’ Cabasa said the tears were uncontrollable.

    He said he tried to persuade Olamide not to leave but gave him his blessings when he insisted on leaving.

    He said, “Olamide was 13 years old when I met him. He came to my studio with a friend who wanted to feature him on a song. His friend was not good musically. Olamide was quiet and unassuming. I gave him a beat, and he did 16 bars that changed everything. Olamide became more like a son to me.

    “When he was about to leave my record label, we sat down to discuss it. It was painful to me. It wasn’t the pain of not wanting him to progress; it was the pain of seeing someone you love leave. I cried.

    “I said, ‘Olamide, you should’ve waited o!’ He said, ‘Bros, I want to do something, and I’m sure, by your code, we might not be able to do some of them.’ We didn’t have a fight. I gave him my full blessings.”

    Olamide left Coded Tunes in 2012 and launched his record label, YBNL Nation.

    Most Nigerian artistes don’t want their kids to listen to their songs — ID Cabasa

    Nigerian record producer and singer, Olumide Ogunade, fondly called ID Cabasa, has revealed that most Nigerian artistes who are parents don’t approve of their kids listening to their music.

    He said most artistes don’t want their kids to listen to their songs because of explicit lyrical content, stressing that most of them were just doing music to make ends meet.

    ID Cabasa spoke in a recent episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ Podcast co-hosted by Nedu.

    “I can tell you that most artists in Nigeria that you see, they don’t want their kids to actually listen to their own songs. And don’t blame them.

    “I don’t like apportioning blames because the people funding (music executives) are behind what artists put out. A lot of us are doing this thing [music] for survival. So, the question is how do you balance who you are with who they [music executives] want you to be?”

    Nigerian music producer and singer, Olumide Ogunade, professionally known as ID Cabasa, has finally revealed why he fell out with his former signee, Abolore Akande, popularly called 9ice.

    ID Cabasa while granting an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Cabasa said that 9ice was upset by his decision to continue working with his ex-wife, Toni Seun Payne.

    Recall that Payne was managing artists under Cabasa’s Coded Tunes Record, a label that had 9ice and singer Olamide.

    According to the music producer, Nice wasn’t okay with the fact that Toni Payne was still on the team despite their break up.

    Cabasa has revealed why he chose to keep Payne on his team.

    He said his reason to keep her was because of Zion, Nice’s son who was born in 2008.

    He said: “When I started pushing Olamide, you noticed I brought Toni Payne in. 9ice was angry but he had no idea why I brought her in. I brought her in because I needed to keep Payne and her son, Zion, close to 9ice. I felt 9ice may never see his son again if she takes Zion abroad.”

    Nigerian music producer and singer, Olumide Ogunade, fondly called ID Cabasa, has said people saw arrogance in Nigerian singer, Abolore Akande, popularly known as 9ice, but they never saw his struggle.

    He made this known in an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, which was shared on Saturday.

    He said, “People were seeing arrogance, but they never saw the struggle the man was going through with a lot of things that was going on in his head.

    “He (9ice) even did some songs and he was trying to tell people he is human. So, for me, what people said at some point affected 9ice, I won’t say it didn’t affect him and it is the same thing that is affecting a lot of legends.

    “I don’t think 9ice is just a music artist, I think 9ice is an idea.”

    Famous Afrobeat singer, Olamide Gbenga Adedeji, aka Olamide Baddo, has opened up about the most embarrassing moment that made him feel both angry and ashamed.

    In a recent interview, Olamide revealed that before his hit song ‘Eniduro’ propelled him into the limelight, he face embarrassment at the hands of a senior artist who sent him to get food.

    Baddo noted that it occurred during his time working with his boss and producer, ID Cabasa, many years ago.

    In his words: “I was in the studio when this senior artist came in to record a song, and he said he was hungry. Who else will he send to buy food if not me, who was the youngest in the studio?

    “The money he gave me was not enough for his meal, so I decided to add my own money. I even used my money to pay for transportation. When I got back to the studio with the food, guess what this guy said to me?

    “Cabasa, tell this your boy to give me my change. If he wants money, he should tell me, and I will give it to him. He should not use a trick to steal my money. I almost got angry, but one look from ID Cabasa calmed me down. Today, the guy is one of my biggest fans, and he is planning to do a song with me.”

    Afrobeat singer, Olamide shares the most embarrassing moment of his life

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Olamide is widely regarded as one of the biggest and most influential artists in Africa, he has been instrumental to the launching of the careers of several Afrobeats music stars.

    He records in Yoruba and English. In 2011, he released his debut studio album Rapsodi while signed to Coded Tunes. YBNL, his follow-up album, was released under his label imprint “Yahoo Boy No Laptop,” aka YBNL Nation.

    The album was supported by the singles “First of All,” “Voice of the Street,” “Stupid Love,” and “Ilefo Illuminati.”

    On 7 November 2013, he released his third studio album Baddest Guy Ever Liveth. The album’s singles include “Durosoke” and “Yemi My Lover.” On 17 July 2013, Olamide became the first Nigerian to sign an endorsement deal with Cîroc.

    Popular music producer, Olumide Ogunade a.k.a ID Cabasa has opened up on the challenges he encountered even as a music maker in the limelight.

    Cabasa who has worked with the likes of 9ice, Olamide, Wizkid, Banky W amongst others, noted that he was so broke to the point that he couldn’t pay his rent.

    He made this known in an Instagram Live Chat with Bouqui.

     

    “I became so broke that a lot of time I get to my studio, to eat was a problem.It got so bad that I was told to move out of the house I was living in. After I moved out that house, I stayed in my studio with my two kids and wives for two months. It was painful. Sometimes, I woke up I the middle of the night and start crying. This people don’t deserve this life.Even at that period, people still see me and hail me like I have billions in my account”.

    Nigerian music producer and singer, ID Cabasa has shared his experience of being assaulted by a Police officer.

    The award winning music producer took to his Instagram page on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 where he narrated his bitter encounter.

    Cabasa noted that he was in a car which was being driven by an Uber driver, when a Range Rover car almost ran into them. Obviously intimidated by the status of the SUV driver, the Uber driver was scared to talk to him.

    “Okay, this night a young fellow Nigerian guy driving a Range Rover sport drove rough nearly hitting d UBER I was in on my way back home with a friend! The UBER guy was so scared and was trying to talk to d range guy but typical rich man-poor man tussle, the range guy overtook us and asked police guys guarding a club near bay lounge to slap the driver,” he wrote.

    ID Cabasa went on to explain that while trying to have a chat with the owner of the SUV, who had instructed the police officers around to slap the driver, things suddenly took a twist as the police officer slapped him.

    “I came down to have a conversation with d Range guy and in all sincerity, we were having a gentleman’s discussion before the police guy he spoke to earlier started pushing me and guarding me against talking to d guy! In a nutshell d police guy SLAPPED me!!!! Then people gathered, recognized me and bam he started begging!!! Sigh!” he said.

     

    In the same vein, Nigerian rapper and actor, Ikechukwu recently shared how he was harassed by SARS operatives.

    According to him: ““Was kidnapped by sars last night. Two mins away from my house, taken to Lagos island and made to exhaust my atm allowance or I would be killed and no one would know…Not by armed robbers.     The Coded Tunes boss recently recounted his experience working with Wizkid and Olamide on the song ‘Totori’.
    Cabasa made this known during an interview on the popular breakfast show, ‘Wake Up Nigeria’
    Speaking on his collaboration with Olamide and Wizzy, he said: “Olamide told Wizkid that bros (Cabasa) has this beat. Wizkid showed loads of love, I was even surprised. You know in Nigeria when you become big, sometimes some things would get into your head. But I was shocked when he came around, the humility, that down-to-earth kind of attitude, in fact, the way he was hugging I was going to say – bros let me just take pictures, you are the superstar now.”
     
    ID Cabasa stated that understanding traction is the key to being relevant as an artiste.
    “I understand traction.Traction is a combination of content and popularity. If what you seek is popularity , you will get it. I can assure you, popularity can be frustrating.You need popularity for people to listen to you.Acceptance comes from the truth in your content. Fela had died over twenty years but we stlil talk about his songs”.
