    IG sets up team to identify, mitigate threats to election security

    The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba, has approved the setting up of an Election Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Team ahead of the general elections.

    The Force Public Relations, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

    He said members of the team would be deployed across states of the federation to identify, analyse and mitigate threats to security during the elections.

    Adejobi said the team would carry out on-the-spot assessment and appraisal of the security emplacements ahead of the general elections.

    He said the setting up of the team was in furtherance of the I-G’s drive for safe, secured and credible general elections.

    The spokesman added that it was also to ensure adequate security coverage before, during and after the elections.

    The team is headed by AIG Garba Umar, Vice President INTERPOL and Head of National Crime Bureau.

    The police spokesman said the team consists of experienced and seasoned police officers with vast knowledge in election security management.

    He said that Umar would be assisted by AIG Habu Sani, the Force Secretary, Mr Basil Idegwu, Commissioner of Police, Election Monitoring and the Force Public Relations Officer.

    Others include seven CPs, 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 30 Chief Superintendents of Police and 16 Strategic Officers of other ranks.

    He said the I-G had reiterated the commitment of the police to ensure that the elections were safe, secure, credible and in line with global best practices.

    “The I-G tasked the team to, among other things, ensure the propriety of deployments, give real-time coverage of the electoral process, and safeguard against hostile external and internal influence.

    “You are to use the INTERPOL, anti-cybercrime and intelligence tools and assets of the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

    Adejobi said the I-G had reaffirmed the establishment and viability of the Electoral Offences Desks domiciled at Criminal Investigation Departments (SCID) of all commands across the nation.

    He said the desk would be headed by the Assistant Commissioners of Police in charge of the SCID.

    Adejobi said the responsibility of desk was to collate, investigate and prosecute all matters relating to electoral offences nationwide.

    IG condemns shooting, killing of a lawyer by police officer

    The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba, has condemned the shooting and killing of a legal practitioner, Mrs Omobolanle Raheem by a police officer.

    The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

    He said the deceased was allegedly shot and killed by a Policeman attached to Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah, Lagos State.

    The I-G described the incident as unfortunate and sad, and  had ordered speedy investigation and prosecution of the officers responsible for the ugly and unprofessional act.

    He said the act didn’t portray the Nigeria Police Standard Operating Procedure and core values.

    Baba commiserated with the family,  friends, and colleagues of the deceased and prayed for the repose of her soul.

    He pledged to ensure that justice prevailed in the case and warned officers and men of the Force to be professional and people-oriented in the discharge of their duties.

    Baba urged police officers to always operate within the ambit of the law, adding that the Force leadership would not condone any inappropriate or unprofessional acts.

    Police IG orders deployment of 7 CPs to states, formations

    The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba, has ordered the deployment of seven Commissioners of Police (CPs) to various police commands in states and formations across the country.

    The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

    He said the deployment followed the recent completion of the Senior Executive Course 44 at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) by some senior officers.

    Adejobi said the newly deployed CP are: Sadiq Abubakar, FCT, Frank Mba, Border Patrol, Force Headquarters and Arungwa Udo, Department of Finance and Account (DFA), Force Intelligence Bureau, Force Headquarters.

    He said others were Bardaru Lawal, General Investigations, Force Criminal Investigations Department Annex, Kaduna, and Suleiman Yusuf, Admin, Research and Planning, Force Headquarters.

    Adejobi said Ebong Ebong,  Admin DFA, Force Headquarters and Babaji Sunday, Commandant, Police College Maiduguri were also deployed.

    He said the I-G had charged the newly posted officers to hit the ground running in the areas of crime-fighting, public cooperation and safety.

    Adejobi said the police boss also called for support and cooperation from the public to the new police helmsmen to enable them perform optimally on their mandate.

    Police IG gives N24m to police widows in Ondo

    The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has doled out more than N24million to the widows of late policemen in the Ondo State Police Command.

    This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Omisanya.

    According to the statement, the gesture is meant to make the widows smile during the yuletide season.

    “The IGP gifted the family of the deceased officers the sum of N24, 482,781.05 to help ease their financial burden.

    “The Commissioner of Police, CP Oyeyemi Oyediran, who presented the cheques to the beneficiaries on behalf of the IGP charged them to be prudent with the money.

    “The families in turn appreciated the unflinching support received from the IGP and the command at large,” the statement said.

    Police IG deploys new DIGs for Operations, Force Intelligence Bureau

    The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Usman Baba has approved the deployment of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) for the Force Intelligence Bureau and the Department of Operations.

    Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated in Abuja on Wednesday that the newly-deployed DIGs are Mr. Bello Sadiq, to Force Intelligence Bureau, and Mr. Dandaura Mustapha, to the Department of Operations.

    Adejobi stated that the deployment followed the promotion of the DIGs by the Police Service Commission, upon the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police.

    He added that the deployment also followed the retirement of the former DIG in charge of Operations, Mr. Bala Senchi.

    Adejobi stated that Sadiq hails from Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi and was appointed into the Force as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1988.

    He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language and Sociology from Bayero University, Kano and had attended several highly revered police courses.

    Mustapha, the new DIG in charge of operations hails from Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State.

    He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History and a Masters in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigeria Defence Academy.

    Adejobi stated also that the Inspector-General of Police approved the deployment of new Commissioners of Police for Kwara, Niger, and Jigawa.

    The new police commissioners are Mr. Odama Ojeka (Kwara), Mr Ayodeji Ogundele (Niger), and Mr. Effiom Ekot (Jigawa).

    Police IG rewards DPO for rejecting $200,000 bribe

    The Inspector General of Police IGP, Usman Alkali Baba has presented a certificate of Award to Nassarawa, Divisional Police Officer, SP Daniel Itse Amah.

    Amah was rewarded for rejecting the sum of Two Hundred Thousand United States Dollars (USD 200,000) offered him as a bribe in a case of alleged armed robbery.

    In a letter containing the commendation, SP Daniel was hailed for exhibiting sound professionalism leading to the arrest of Ali Zaki, a Kano-based legal practitioner, and some Police officers.

    According to reports, investigations by Operatives led by SP Daniel led to the arrest of the suspected armed robbery syndicate in Kano.

    Consequently, the case was transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on the directive of IGP for discreet investigation.

    When contacted, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest and said, “The lawyer and other suspects involved in the case have a case to answer and we are still on with the matter.”

    Police I-G says recruitment based on merit, not politics, favoritism

    Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba again restated unequivocally that the recruitment process of the Nigeria Police Force was merit-based and not favouritism of any kind.
    This is contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Sunday in Abuja.
    He said the recruitment process comprises a physical screening of all applicants who expressed interest in serving with the force by filling the application form online without any charge attached.
    He said applicants who met the legal requirements for the physical screening were subjected to a Computer-Based Test (CBT), set and organised by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).
    Baba said after the CBT, successful applicants were also subjected to Medical Screening to confirm their fitness to take up the policing duty.
    “Those who have successfully passed these processes are collated and an equal number of them, prioritising the best amongst them, per Local Government Area (LGA) is selected.
    “The process ensures that only those suited for the job are amongst the final individuals from whom the required 10,000 are selected,” he said.
    Baba said it was surprising and misinforming to read in some actions of the media that police recruitment was influenced and facilitated by some individuals to suit their interests.
    The I-G said the police recruitment process was not for sale nor can it be influenced by any individual for selfish reasons.
    He pledged to continually intensify efforts in upholding the sanctity and standards of modern policing in the country.
    Newsmen reports that the Federal Government said 40, 000 police officers were recruited in the last four years, in an effort to re-energise and improve the personnel of the force to tackle increasing security challenges in the country.
    President Muhammadu Buhari made this known while declaring open a two-day retreat for Senior Police Officers in Uyo, on Tuesday.Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Police Affairs, Dr Maigari Dingyadi, said the federal government also granted assent to the Nigerian Police Trust Fund Act and carried out an upward review of salaries and allowances of the rank and file, in a bid to boost the morale of the Force.

    Police IG orders CPs to tighten security around schools

    The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba, has ordered all Commissioners of Police (CPs), Tactical Commanders and their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to tighten security around schools and colleges.

    The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

    He said the I-G had also ordered the review of police personnel and operational assets deployments to schools and colleges around nationwide.

    Adejobi said that the I-G gave the order on Tuesday, at a meeting of the Force Management Team in Abuja.

    He said the order followed a review of the general security in the country, including the security of schools and colleges as a result of some isolated incidences reported in some schools.

    Adejobi said the decision was to ensure the protection of schools and colleges, particularly boarding schools, tertiary institutions, and its campuses in areas prone to security breaches around the country.

    He said the I-G had called on CPs, Tactical Commanders and their supervising AIGs to explore all available options and think outside the box to boost security in and around schools, colleges, and student based communities.

    Adejobi said the I-G had also directed detectives/operatives of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) and the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) to ensure sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering activities within various school environments.

    According to him, the Police Airwing has also been directed to extend its aerial patrols to the six geo-political zones of the country.

    He said the I-G had pledged that all hands would be on deck to ensure a safe environment for all pupils and students in various schools and colleges within the country.

    Police IG confirms Olumuyiwa Adejobi as Force PRO

    The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba has confirmed the appointment of CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi as the 25th indigenous Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

    Mr Anjuguri Manzah, the Administrative Officer in the Force Public Relations Department, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

    Recall that Adejobi was appointed in acting capacity on Feb. 16 by the I-G.

    His appointment followed the nomination of his predecessor, Mr Frank Mba, a Commissioner of Police (CP) for
    Senior Executive Course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos.

    According to Manzah, Adejobi studied Archeology and Geography (Combined Honours) at the University of Ibadan and holds a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the same university.

    Manzah said the FPRO had served as Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Police Command in Ogun from 2008 to 2016.

    “He has also served as PPRO, Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, in 2016 and PPRO, Poice command Lagos State from September 2020 to August 2021 before his posting as Deputy FPRO.

    “Adejobi has carved a niche for himself in Police Public Relations Management with the experience he has gained serving as PPRO in different police commands and zone for more than a decade,” he said.

    Manzah said the confirmed FPRO had also served as Operations Officer (OC) Anti Bank Robbery and Anti Pipeline Vandalisation, Sagamu Division from 2006 to 2008.

    “He has served as Administrative Officer, Department of Operations, Police Headquarters, Ogun in 2008 and Operations Officer, Department of Operations, Lagos state command Ikeja in 2017.

    “Adejobi has served as the Directing Staff, Police College, Ikeja and as Personal Assistant to The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja,” he added.

    According to him, Adejobi is a member of several professional bodies and associations, including Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), International Public Relations Association (IPRA) and Point Man Leadership Institute, USA.

    The new FPRO is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), USA, Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Boys Brigade Nigeria and the Institute of Corporate Administration, Nigeria.

    Alleged Police strike: Fear grips IG, quickly approves payment of new salary structure

    In a bid to avoid total breakdown of law and order on March 26, the date scheduled for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC convention, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Baba has quickly approved payment of new salary structure for the police.

    TheNewsGuru. com, (TNG) recalls a letter allegedly written by policemen emerged online last week threatening to embark on a two-week warning strike notice from March 26.

    But the police authority immediately countered the letter declaring that the news was fake and should be ignored.

    In the letter, the policemen had demanded for the 20% increase as approved by the Federal Government since last year December.

    But three months down the line, no alert was received by the policemen who claimed that they work under horrible conditions as their colleagues are slaughtered on a daily basis.

    As part of measures to stop policemen from engaging in industrial action, the Nigeria Police Force ordered the immediate implementation of the new salary structure.

    The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, also approved the distribution of uniforms and other accoutrements to men of the NPF.

    From all indications the NPF is not leaving anything to chance as the IGP is currently taking urgent steps to stop the said industrial action.
