Release Eze Igbo now – Igbo Youths tells DSS

Following Eze Fredrick Nwajagu, Eze Igbo’s arrest on Saturday by the operatives of the Department of State Services, (DSS) the Igbo youths known as the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, (COSEYL) have demanded his immediate release.

Recall that the DSS arrested Nwajagu for threatening in a viral video on Saturday to invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to help protect Ndigbo living in Lagos and their property against attacks by hoodlums.

However,  (COSEYL) in a statement by its President General, Goodluck Ibem, said DSS and the Nigeria Police had left the real problem to chase shadows.

Ibem wondered why the Police and DSS did not go after MC Oluomo, who intimidated Igbos during last Month’s gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections.

He lamented that when alleged attacks were meted on the Igbos in Lagos during March 18 elections, DSS and Police lost their steam but suddenly got it back after Nwajagu’s comment.

According to them, Nwajagu’s comment came due to the continued silence of security operatives despite the alleged attack on Igbos in Lagos.

The group warned that security operatives should not maltreat Igbos in Lagos.

“The same police and DSS that arrested Eze Fredrick Nwajagu and other innocent Igbos, what did they do when thugs were killing and attacking Igbos and their properties in Lagos during and after the general elections? The answer is nothing”, the statement reads in part.

Eze Fredrick Nwajagu is the Eze Igbo in Ajao Estate in Lagos.

Igbo youths reject CBN’s policy on Cash withdrawal limit

A group known by the name the  Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, (COSEYL), has called against the new policy introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria to limit daily and weekly cash withdrawals in the country as from the 9th of January.

‘CBN pegged daily cash withdrawals at N20,000 per day and N100,000 per week to discourage cash transactions and encourage the electronic transfer of monies.

Many Nigerians have been expressing mixed views concerning the restriction of cash introduced by CBN in the country.

Reacting, COSEYL, in a statement by its president general, Goodluck Ibem, described the policy as retrogressive, stressing that most Nigerian traders, farmers, other businessmen, and women are uneducated and can hardly operate or use e-banking to transact businesses.

According to the group, the new CBN policy already causing serious hardship and difficulties.

“Nigerians are already in serious hardship and difficulties, and if this policy is not removed immediately, it will lead to more hard times, closure of businesses and even deaths as so many people will not be able to trade or do their businesses because they can not transact via e-banking.

“Cashless policy is ineffective in an environment where it is very difficult to have internet services at all times. The CBN is not doing anything to ensure that bank customers whose money has been trapped via failed e-transactions can get their money back.

“So many people have lost their hard-earned money running into billions of naira, and nothing has been done by CBN to ensure such persons involved get their money back.

“The CBN should allow Nigerians have access to their money and devise another economic policy and leave this N20,000 daily withdrawal limit because it amount to adding salt to injury”.

Respect my age, Stop wanton killings – Amaechi urges Igbo youths

An Elder Statesman, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, 92, has urged Igbo youths to respect his age and stop the wanton killings and destruction of property in the South East Zone.

Amaechi made the appeal on Wednesday in Abakaliki while briefing newsmen after a closed door meeting with Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi.

The elder statesman said that he was in the state to brief the governor as the Chairman of the South East Governors Forum on his efforts to stop the incessant violence in the zone especially by youths.

“I led a delegation of Igbo leaders to President Muhammadu Buhari on the growing trend of violence in the country especially in the southeast zone.

“He was happy with the visit and we are expecting positive results because peace and reconciliation cannot be achieved with violence,” he said.

The First Republic Minister regretted the reported killing of policemen and civilians in Ebonyi and other parts of the country and called for an end to such carnages.

“I plead with all agitating groups both known and unknown to give peace a chance for full restoration of security to the zone and the entire country.

“I am the only surviving minister of the first republic and plead that my age should be respected.

“I should be assisted to make peace in the zone and country before I join my maker.

“Youths are presently witnessing a period when the naira has no value, passengers disembark from their vehicles to cross security check points among other issues,” he said.

Amaechi recalled the events of the 1979 and 1999 general elections in the country and noted that Igbos missed the opportunities of clinching the presidential positions on both occasions.

“I believe the Igbos have qualified and respected individuals who can clinch and acquaint themselves creditably as the country’s president.

“I advise aspirants for the position from the zone to work towards ensuring that their respective political parties nominate an Igbo man for the position.

“”When Igbos emerge as the candidates of the respective parties, we would support whoever wins,” the nonagenarian said.

Nnamdi Kanu is only one that speaks and Igbo youths obey – Father Mbaka

The Spiritual Director, Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka has stated that the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, will end the sit-at-home order in some parts of the south-east.

Mbaka said he has been praying hard for God to turn the heart of President Muhammadu Buhari to Kanu for good.

Recall that in some parts of the south-east for weeks, the sit-at-home order by IPOB witnessed considerable compliance as residents stayed indoors despite repeated declarations by Governors in the region that people should disregard the directive.

The cleric in the now-viral video during a sermon at Adoration Ground said Kanu cannot continue to remain in DSS custody forever.

He said: “For long, nobody has seen him (Kanu) and whether we like it or not, as of today, he is the voice that will open and say something that the entire Igbo youths will say “Amen” to it. We should all be busy talking about the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

“Killing and killing of our youths will not bring solutions. There is nobody that you will kill his child and will forgive you. If possible let them (govt) build more remand homes instead of killing and killing.

“Whether we believe it or not, the sun must rise, it is a matter of time.”

2019: Igbo youths list conditions to support Atiku against Buhari

Ohanaeze Youth Council on Tuesday urged the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to come clean on how many tenure he intends to run if elected in next year’s general election.

The youths in a statement by its Secretary General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said Atiku’s six years master plan is suspicious as it seems like a ploy by the PDP candidate to go for a second tenure.

It argued that the Presidency is supposed to be given to the south east in 2023 adding that Atiku may not get South East’s votes if he does not make a pledge to go for only one tenure.

OYC had studied dilligently the Six Year plan of Atiku Abubakar policy to make Nigeria work again as a good document but insists that Atiku must make a categorical Statement that he will only seek for one tenure to convince Ndigbo that his Six Year Policy Statement is not intention of seeking second term against 2023 Igbo Presidency Project” OYC said.

The group called on the people of south east geopolitical zone to put their house in order before next year’s general election to avoid what happened in 2003 election in south west where the opposition governors under the Alliance for Democracy, agreed to Vote for Obasanjo and later lost their Seats.

The Ohaneze Youths threatened to vote out any Governor in south east who betray Igbo course.

As Igbo Watchdogs, we believe that irrespective of Our Support for South East Governors seeking 2nd term, we will vote out any Governor who betrayed the Igbo interest and Agenda which will be decided by January 2019, We call agitators to join hands for we to retire some Igbo politicians who had consistently betray our collective interest
because of our apathy towards voting.

OYC insists that South East and Igbo votes across the 36 States including Abuja will be the swinging votes that help who will emerge victorious in the 2019 Presidential election, and major contenders know about this reality.

OYC had studied diligently the Six Year plan of Atiku Abubakar policy to make Nigeria work again as a good document but insists that Atiku must make a categorical Statement that he will only seek for one tenure to convince Ndigbo that his Six Year Policy Statement is not intention of seeking second term against 2023 Igbo Presidency Project.
