Nollywood actor slams Nigerian pastors over fake testimony, urges CAN to act

Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has cried out over the alarming rate at which Nigerian pastors are using fake miracles to deceive and exploit people.

The actor, in a lengthy post on Instagram, described the current practice of Christianity in Nigeria as a heartbreaking betrayal of Christianity’s true essence.

Lamenting the prominent fraudulent actions by clergy members, the actor noted that it damages the church’s reputation and manipulates vulnerable believers, turning faith into a means of personal profit.

According to Ogbonna, the consequences of the deception prepetrated by these so called men of God will birth broken trust, shattered lives, and manipulated faith, amongst others.

The actor passionately appealed to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to take a more proactive role, urging them to implement stricter regulations and accountability measures for those who claim to be pastors.

The post reads: “Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows he will also reap.

    “Fake Miracles Are Mocking Christianity🙏

“It’s heartbreaking to see pastors using fake miracles to deceive and exploit vulnerable people. These acts stain the true essence of Christianity, turning faith into a spectacle for selfish gain. The consequences? Broken trust lost lives, and faith manipulated for profit.

“To those pastors, it’s time to reflect—using God’s name for falsehood is a betrayal of the gospel. To the victims, remember your faith is sacred, and true miracles don’t come from deception.

“Let’s also be cautious not to get carried away by social media trends that disrespect and ridicule our faith. Christianity should never be used as a tool for likes, views, or viral content.

“I call on the government and religious bodies like the Christian Association of Nigeria to step up, regulate, and hold these bad actors accountable. Christianity is about truth, love, and humility—not fraud, manipulation, or mockery.

“Let’s stand together to protect the integrity of our faith!”.

“I am not just an actor, I represent Nollywood. Trolling people on social media is growing by the day. They have seen it as a cheap means to get followers on social media. I got a lot of calls from my senior colleagues, most of them were really bitter about it. If people feel that they can just come on social media to say whatever they want to say, then they should be ready to face the consequences of their actions.

“There are people out there that would believe anything they see or hear on social media”.

Ogbonna, through his lawyers, has written to the said lady identified on Instagram as Bold Pink, to retract and tender an apology to him.

“A free platform created for promotion and marketing has given people cheap voices to speak cheaply about people’s hard earned integrity. Most of those who wants us to come out with “who we truly are”…as they claim, have themselves nothing to show to anyone. The noises are mostly made and heard from the empty barrels. We give attention to what is of value not what takes our attention from what is of no value. And very soon, society must weed out the tares that prevent the wheat from standing out.” If u come with allegations pls come out of the closet with prove to ur allegation,” he wrote.

First, we must remember that u married a friend, a support system, not an enemy or competition. You are now one.

They believe that marriage is a beautiful box full of things they have longed for… companionship, intimacy, friendship, etc,”

If there is anything you want to change, you don’t have to wait till the beginning of the year to do that. The only reflection I have for the New Year is to check my bank account, to see how well I’m doing and how I fared in the past year. That’s the only thing I check on New Year’s Day”, he told Punch.

Every new day affords a new beginning. It is still the same old me; there wouldn’t be any change because of the date. Rather, there would be a change based on whatever I do.”
