    Winners of by-elections to receive certificates of return Thursday – INEC

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says it will to issue certificates of return to winners of Aug.16 by-elections on Thursday.

    Mr Sam Olumeku, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

    He said that the decision was in line with the provision of Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.

    Olumekun said that the the presentation of the certificates for Senators-elect and members of the House of Representatives-elect will take place at the INEC headquarters in Abuja at 3:00 p.m.

    The senators-elect elect to receive the certificates were those of Anambra South and Edo Central Senatorial Districts and five members of House of Representatives-elect, from Ovie North-East and Ovie South-West Federal Constituency of Edo, Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa.

    Others are Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun and Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo.

    “For State Houses of Assembly, the Certificates of Return will be presented to members-elect by the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in our state offices on Friday Aug. 22 at 11am.

    “The constituencies are Ganye State Constituency of Adamawa, Onitsha North 1 State Constituency of Anambra, Basawa and Zaria/Kewaye State Constituencies of Kaduna State and Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa State constituencies of Kano State,

    Others are ;Okura State Constituency of Kogi, Munya State Constituency of Niger and Karim Lamido 1 State Constituency of Taraba,” he said.

    Olumekun, also disclosed that INEC has fixed Aug. 21 for the conclusion of the by-election in five polling units of Kaura Namoda South State Constituency of Zamfara.

    The polling units according to him are; Shiyar Magaji/Kofar Hamza, Tukasu/Sabuwar Kasuwa, Kofar Fada/ Shiyar Fada, Alko/Shiyar Tudu, and SH/Nufawa/Kofar M. D. Nuhu

    He recalled that 16 by-elections and two court-ordered re-run elections were held across the country on Aug. 16.

    He noted that the by-elections were held in two Senatorial Districts, five Federal Constituencies and nine State Assembly Constituencies, with declaration and return already made in all except one State Assembly Constituencies.

    “In spite of the prevailing security situation, election was held in Kaura Namoda South State Constituency of Zamfara.

    “However, the Returning Officer reported that he was unable to make a declaration because of violence emergency in five Polling Units across two Registration Areas/Wards with a total of 3,572 registered voters out of which 3,265 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were collected by voters.

    “The margin of lead was 1,662. Therefore, based on Section 24(3) and (4) of the Electoral Act 2022, election must be held in the affected polling units to determine a winner,” he said.

    Olumekun said that consequently, the commission has fixed Thursday Aug. 21 for re-run election in the five polling units.

    He also recalled that two re-run elections by order of the Election Petition Appeal Tribunals were held in Enugu and Kano States.

    “After previous disruptions of the elections in the two states by violence and thuggery, the elections have now been concluded.

    “Declaration and return were made by the Returning Officers.

    “For the Enugu South 1 State Constituency of Enugu State, Ngene Bright Emeka of the Labour Party (LP) was declared winner while Ya’u Garba Gwarmai of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the election in Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency of Kano State,” he said.

    After by-elections, INEC begins continuous voters registration today

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of its Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, beginning today.

    In a statement released via its official Twitter handle on Monday, the commission announced that the online pre-registration phase has begun. Eligible Nigerians can now log on to www.cvr.inecnigeria.org to begin the process ahead of the physical exercise.

    According to INEC, physical registration will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, nationwide.

    The commission explained that in-person registration would take place in all its 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices nationwide, to ensure accessibility for prospective voters.

    It further stated, “The CVR exercise is open to new voters aged 18 and above, those who wish to collect or transfer their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and individuals who need to replace lost or damaged PVCs.”

    INEC, however, cautioned against engaging in multiple registrations, stressing that offenders risk sanctions.

    The electoral body urged Nigerians to seize the opportunity, noting that voter registration is a vital step toward strengthening democratic participation.

    The commission advised the public to reach out via its call centre on 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) or through its short code 4632 for inquiries.

    INEC also reassured Nigerians of its dedication to deepening democracy, noting that every eligible voter will have the opportunity to register ahead of the upcoming elections.

    By-elections: Check out results in 16 seats across 9 states of the federation

    By-elections results across the federation show that the APC won 12 of the 16 seats across nine states.

    APGA secured two seats in Anambra, PDP won one seat in Oyo, and NNPP claimed one seat in Kano.

    While APC swept most of the seats, PDP retained a foothold in Oyo and placed second in many contests, while APGA consolidated its dominance in Anambra under the leadership of Governor Charles Soludo.

    The results also reflect a trend of ruling parties consolidating power in their states, except in Adamawa and Taraba, where the APC upset the PDP in Ganye and Karim constituencies, respectively.

    Below is a compilation of the results announced by INEC:
    State-by-State Results
    Kano
    The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) won the Bagwai/Shanono State Assembly by-election in Kano. NNPP’s Ali Alhassan won with 16,198 votes, defeating APC’s 5,347.

    In the Ghari/Tsanyawa state constituency, APC’s Garba Gwarmai won with 31,472 votes against NNPP’s Yusuf Maigado, who scored 27,931.

    Kaduna State
    In Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency, APC’s Fidelix Bagudu scored 34,580 votes to defeat his rivals from the PDP and ADC, who polled 11,491 and 3,477 votes respectively.

    In the Basawa constituency, INEC declared Dahiru Umar-Sani of the APC as the winner of the state house of assembly contest.

    Mr Umar-Sani secured 10,996 votes to defeat his closest rival, Muazu Danyaro of PDP, who scored 5,499 votes. Trailing the APC and PDP is DanBala Usman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 811, and Mahmuda Almustapha of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who polled 146 votes.

    Elsewhere in Zaria Kewaye, the electoral commission announced Isa Mohammed of the APC as the winner of the state assembly election.

    Mr Mohammed secured 26,613 votes, defeating SDP’s Nuhu Muazu, who polled 5,721 and PDP’s Mahmud Wappa, who scored 5,331.

    Muktar Babangida of ZLP got 31 votes.

    Edo State
    INEC declared APC’s Omosede Igbinedion winner of the Ovia federal constituency by-election held on Saturday in Edo.

    Ms Igbinedion scored a total of 77,053 votes to defeat her challengers from the PDP and ADC, who respectively scored 3,838 and 925 votes.

    In the Edo central senatorial election, INEC also declared APC’s Joseph Ikpea as the winner of Saturday’s contest.

    Niger State
    The APC candidate, Dogari Daje, won Saturday’s by-election to fill Munya’s constituency seat in the Niger House of Assembly.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports on Sunday that Mr Daje polled a total of 12,556 votes to defeat PDP’s Sabon Sunday, who scored 5,646 votes.

    Mr Ikpea secured a total of 105,129 votes to defeat the PDP’s Joe Okojie, who polled 15,146 votes.

    Adamawa State
    In Adamawa, APC’s Misa Musa narrowly won 15,923 votes to beat his opponent, Buba Muhammad of the PDP, who polled 15,794.

    The ADC got 42 votes, APGA 14, AAC 17, and AA 2 votes.

    Taraba State
    INEC declared Abner Shittu of the APC as the winner of the Karim 1 state constituency by-election in Taraba.

    The APC candidate polled 5,901 to defeat PDP’s Ali Kanda, who got 5,527.

    ADC’s Badina Garba scored 2,069 votes to finish a distant third.

    The electoral umpire cited Sections 24 subsection 2 & 3, Section 47 subsection 3, and Section 51 subsection 2 of the Electoral Act 2022 as reasons for declaring the election inconclusive.

    Zamfara by-election inconclusive
    INEC declared the by-election in Zamfara inconclusive after cancellations in Sakajiki and Kambarawa wards.

    The INEC Returning Officer for the election, Lawal Sa’adu of the Federal University Gusau, said the total number of registered voters in the affected polling units stood at 5,446, while 3,265 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were collected in those areas.

     

    He explained that the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 7,001 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 5,339 votes, leaving a margin of 1,662 votes.

    Mr Sa’adu stated that the margin was less than the total number of PVCs collected in the cancelled polling units; therefore, the election cannot be concluded.

    The electoral umpire cited Sections 24 subsection 2 & 3, Section 47 subsection 3, and Section 51 subsection 2 of the Electoral Act 2022 as reasons for declaring the election inconclusive.

     

    Enugu State
    Enugu South Urban Constituency was stalled again amid tensions, marking the fourth failed attempt to conclude the exercise, the Guardian reported.

    Tinubu reacts over conduct of by-elections

    President Bola Tinubu has congratulated all the winners of Saturday’s by-elections in 16 constituencies across 12 States.

    ‎This is contained in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga on Sunday in Abuja.

    ‎The President also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the hitch-free elections, mostly devoid of violence.

    ‎Following the results declared by INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won in 12 constituencies, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won in two, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in one, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won in one.

    ‎Tinubu congratulated the new APC national Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for the emphatic first victory recorded under his leadership. ‎He also lauded the APC governors and other leaders on the success of the by-elections.

    “Chairman Yilwatda has shown leadership capacity and demonstrated what is achievable when popular candidates are fielded and with unity of purpose among party leaders,” the President remarks.

    “To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for the confidence reposed in our party. Be assured that our Renewed Hope slogan is not a mere slogan. Our destination is a better, more secure and prosperous Nigeria. We shall take you there, by the Grace of God,” he said.

    ‎Tinubu commended all the political parties and candidates who participated in the election and enjoined them to continue to be guided by the spirit of sportsmanship and fair, which are enablers of enduring democracy.

    INEC releases more by-elections results

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started announcing results from the by-elections conducted in 16 constituencies across 12 States of the federation.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the by-elections are to fill vacancies resulting from the deaths or resignations of members of the national and state assemblies.

    The by-elections were conducted for two Senatorial Districts of Anambra South and Edo Central; and five federal constituencies of Ovia South-West/Ovia South-East in Edo, Babura/Garki in Jigawa, Chikun/Kajuru in Kaduna State, Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North in Ogun and Ibadan North in Oyo.

    INEC also conducted by-elections for nine State constituencies of Ganye in Adamawa, Onitsha North I in Anambra, Dekina/Okura in Kogi, Zaria Kewaye and Basawa both in Kaduna State.

    Other constituencies are Bagwai/Shanono in Kano State, Mariga in Niger, Karim Lamido I in Taraba and Kauran Namoda South in Zamfara.

    INEC declares APC candidate winner of Taraba assembly by-election

    Meanwhile, INEC has declared Mr Abner Shittu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner  of the Karim 1 State  Constitency By- Election in Taraba.

    Mr Mustapha Sa’ad, Returning Officer for the by- election, while making the declaration on Sunday in Karim Lamido, said that the  APC candidate  pulled 5,901 to defeat  his  closest rival, Mr Ali Kanda of the Peoples  Democratic party (PDP), who got 5,527.

    Sa’ad also said that Dr Badina Garba of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), polled 2,069 to come a distant third.

    “The by-election  conducted in five council wards of Karim 1 state constituency saw APC  scored the highest number of lawful votes and  is hereby, decleared winner and returned elected,” he said.

    Recall that the by- election was conducted  as a result of the resignation of Dr Mike Dio-Jen  (PDP), who is now the state  Commissioner for Tertiary Education.

    Adamawa by-election: APC wins Ganye Constituency

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa won Ganye Constituency by-election into the State House of Assembly.

    Announcing the results on Sunday in Ganye, Prof. Tukur Ahmed, the INEC Returning Officer, said Musa Misi of APC scored 15,923 votes to defeat Buba Joda of PDP, who scored 15,794 votes.

    “Having satisfied the requirements of the law, Musa Misi of APC is here by declared the winner ,” he said.

    The by-election was held as a result of the demise of Abdulmalik Musa of the APC in May 2024.

    Musa appreciated the electorate for the confidence response in him.

    He assured that he would actively represent the constituency by facilitating projects that would be of benefit to the constituents.

    Martins Babale, former Deputy Governor of the state and APC stalwart, described the election as credible and peaceful.

    Babale commended the Federal Government for commencing the rehabilitation of the 40 years abandoned Ganye-Bulo-Jada road.

    Kogi by-election: APC candidate, Shado emerges winner

    Similarly, Mr Hassan Shado of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared winner of the Dekina-Okura II Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday in Kogi.

    Prof. Emmanuel Enenche-Onome, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, announced the results on Sunday.

    Enenche-Onome, said Shado scored a total of 55,073 votes to beat his closed rivals; Meliga Godwin of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and  Egene Joseph Ugbede of Allied Peoples Movement (APM) who scored 1,038 and 445 votes respectively.

    He said, “I do hereby declare that Mr Hassan Shado having scored the highest votes, is hereby returned the winner of the Dekina-Okura II by-election in Kogi.”

    The election, which recorded low turnout, saw six out of the 18 registered political parties contested the election.

    The parties are Accord Party, African Democratic Congress, All Progressives Congress; Allied People’s Movement, Social DemocraticParty and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

    The by-election was conducted to fill is the vacancy created by the death of a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Enema Paul, on Dec.14, 2024, following a protracted illness.

    APC wins Chikun/Kajuru Fed. Constituency by-election in Kaduna

    Mr Fidelix Bagudu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged winner of Saturday’s by-election for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State.

    The results was announced by Prof. Abubakar Jumare, Returning Officer at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office on Sunday in Kaduna.

    Jumare declared that APC’s candidate, Bagudu scored 34,580 votes to defeat his closest rival, of the PDP who secured 11,491 while ADC candidate recorded ADC 3,477 votes.

    The results gave Bagudu a leading margin of 23,089 votes leading to his victory at the polls.

    APC’s Rabi’u wins Babura-Garki Federal Constituency by-election

    INEC, also, has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner in the Garki-Babura Federal Consituency by-election in Jigawa.

    The Returning Officer, Prof. Sani Ibrahim-Ismail, announced the result on Sunday in Babura, headquarters of Babura Local Government Area of the state.

    He said that APC’s Muktar Rabi’u scored 38,449 votes, to defeat his closest opponent, Isa Auwalu of the PDP, who polled 13,519 votes.

    “I Prof. Sani Ibrahim Ismail, hereby certify that I am the returning Officer of Babura-Garki Federal Constituency by-election held on 16th August 2025.

    “The election was contested, the candidates received the following votes: Bilkisu Bashiru of Party A received 11 votes; Ibrahim Habiba of Party AA received 5 votes and Umar Bashir of ADC got 48 votes.

    “Saleh Sani of Party AAA received 446 votes while Muktar Rabi’u Garki of the APC got 38,449 votes, Adamu Dahiru of APGA got 77 votes and Umar Muhammed Gana received 37 votes.

    “Abdullahi Usman of APP 31 votes, Sabo Salisu of NNPP 2,931 votes, Isa Auwalu of PDP 13,519 votes Yushau Alasan of SDP 21 votes and Muktar Babangida of ZLP 31 votes,” Ibrahim announced.

    The by-election, which followed the death of Isa Yaro, who passed away on May 10, 2024, was generally peacefully amid high turnout of voters including the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar and Mrs Suwaiba Ahmad, Minister of State Education.

    APC candidate wins house of assembly by-election in Niger

    Mr Dogari Daje, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, has won Saturday’s by-election to fill Munya Constituency’s seat in the Niger House of Assembly.

    The APC candidate, Dogari Daje polled a total of 12,556 votes, while his closest rival, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Sabon Sunday, scored 5,646 votes, resulting in a difference of 6,910 votes.

    INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Abdulkarim Saka, from Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, announced the result at the INEC Area Office, Sarkin Pawa in Munya Local Government Area of the state.

    He said the APC won 10 out of the 11 wards, with PDP securing only one ward.

    Reacting, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Niger, Ahmed Garki, described the election as transparent and credible.

    The Commissioner of Police in Niger, Adamu Elleman, commended officers for their dedication ensuring a peaceful and violence free process.

    In their separate remarks, Mr Aminu Najume, Chairman of Munya Local Government Area and Mr Maurice Majaji, Commissioner for Land and Survey, applauded the peaceful atmosphere that enables voters to freely exercise their franchise.

    Some of the electorate who spoke including Prof. Danlaldi Hakimi, said the large turnout of voters was a result of the relative peace now being enjoyed in Munya Local Government, but there was still need for improvement.

    He advised the the candidate of the PDP to accept the result in good faith and prioritise the interests of Munya Local Government, saying “it is God who gives power and only one person can be declared a winner”.

    Ogun: APC wins Remo Federal constituency by-election

    INEC has also declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs Adesola Elegbeji as winner of Saturday’s Remo Federal constituency of Ogun  by-election.

    The Returning Officer, Prof. Kazeem Bello, made the declaration at the Ikenne collation centre  in the early hours of  Sunday.

    He affirmed that Elegbeji satisfied all electoral requirements and therefore stood elected as the new representative of Remo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

    Bello said  that Elegbeji polled a total of 41,237 votes to defeat his closest rival , the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Bolarinwa Oluwole, who garnered 14,324 votes.

    The returning officer explained that, at Ikenne local government, APC scored 10,227 ,  PDP got 5,595, while at Remo North local government, APC garnered 8,053, PDP 992 and at Sagamu local government, APC won with 22,958 with PDP scoring 7,737.

    ” That Elegbeji Adesola Yetunde Ayoola of  APC having satisfied the requirement of law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Bello said.

    The former member representing the constituency , Adewunmi Onanuga died on Jan. 15 after a brief illness.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Kaura Namoda South State Constituency bye-election in Zamfara inconclusive.

    The INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Lawal Sa’adu of Federal University Gusau said that the declaration followed the cancellation of results from some polling units in Sakajiki and Kambarawa wards.

    Sa’adu said  the total number of registered voters in the affected polling units stood at 5,446, while 3,265 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were collected in those areas.

    He explained  that the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 7,001 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 5,339 votes, leaving a margin of 1,662 votes.

    Sa’adu stated that the margin was less than the total number of PVCs collected in the cancelled polling units, therefore, the election cannot be concluded.

    The electoral umpire sited Sections 24 sub section 2 & 3, Section 47 sub section 3, and Section 51 sub section 2 of the Electoral Act 2022 as reasons for declaring the election inconclusive

    He said  the Electoral Act 2022 and the Manual for Election Officials, such a situation arises where the margin of lead between the two leading candidates was not in excess of the number of collected PVCs in areas where elections were cancelled.

    According to him, therefore, the Returning Officer shall decline to declare a winner until supplementary elections are conducted.

    The retuning officer also said that the two registration areas affected by the cancellation were: Sakajiki Ward, with two polling units affected, having 1,357 registered voters and 1,298 PVCs collected.

    The other was Kambarawa Ward, with three polling units affected and having 4,088 registered voters and 1,964 PVCs collected.

    Sa’adu, therefore, declared the election inconclusive, pending the conduct of a supplementary poll in the affected polling units.

    He said INEC would announce a new date for rerun election in the five affected polling units across Sakajiki and Kyambarawa wards.

    Inconclusive by-election: Zamfara APC reacts

    Meanwhile, the Zamfara chapter of APC has commended the electorate for the massive turnout in Saturday’s Kaura Namoda South State Assembly Constituency by-election.

    Reacting to the outcome of the election, in a statement issued in Gusau on Sunday, the State APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, described the electorate’s support to the party during the by-election as timely.

    “The state APC chapter wishes to appreciate the kind support and resilience of the electorate during the elections despite all the challenges.

    “We appreciate people of Kaura Namoda South State Assembly Constituency for turning out en mass and voting for APC in spite of the harassment from thugs and members of Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG) in the polling units.

    “The by-election election has shown the strength and continued acceptance of the party in the state by the electorate,” he said.

    Idris added that APC was very much appreciative with the voters as it was leading with over 1,600 votes, adding , “this is a clear indication of where the people’s faith lies.

    “Although the results for the election were declared inconclusive, we are confident that the electoral umpire, INEC will not allow itself to be used for the denial of the rights of the electorate.

    “We also appreciate our leaders, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, for their constant support and encouragement to the operations and management of the party in the state.

    “We call on members and supporters of the APC and members of the public to remain calm,” he added.

    APGA defeats APC, ADC YPP; sweeps Anambra by-elections

    The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidates have won the by-elections for the Anambra South Senatorial District and the Onitsha North Constituency of the State House of Assembly held on Saturday.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the two results on Sunday in Onitsha and Nnewi Local Governments, respectively.

    The Returning Officer at the INEC Office in Nnewi, Prof. Frank Ojiako, declared Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu of APGA as the winner of the Anambra South Senatorial seat.

    Nwachukwu polled 90,408 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Azuka Okwuosa, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 19,847 votes. Mr Donald Amangbo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) emerged third with 2,889 votes.

    Ojiako said: “I hereby make the declaration that Emmanuel Nwachukwu of APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.

    The death of the Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the Senate in July, 2024 necessitated the conduct of a by-election which was contested by 12 political parties on Aug. 16.

    INEC also declared Ms Ifeoma Azikiwe the winner of the Anambra House of Assembly, Onitsha North Constituency 1 by-election.

    Announcing the results in Onitsha, the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Ibiam Ekpe, disclosed that Azikiwe of APGA scored 7,774 votes to defeat her closest rival and the candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mrs Justina Azuka, who pooled 1,909 votes.

    He said that the candidate of the APC, Mr Ezennia Ojekwe and that of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Njideka Ndiwe, scored 1,371 and 655 votes, respectively.

    He commended the various candidates for their peaceful conduct and hailed the voters for turning out en masse during the exercise.

    Azikiwe will now fill the seat left vacant by the former lawmaker, late Justice Azuka, who was kidnapped and subsequently killed. She would serve out his remaining two years.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the by-election held on Saturday for the Edo Central Senatorial District in Edo State.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Mr Joseph Ikpea, candidate of the APC, polled a total of 105,129 votes to defeat Mr Joe Okojie, candidate of the PDP, who polled 15,146 votes, in results announced by INEC.

    TNG reports the by-election was held in Edo Central Senatorial District to replace Senator Monday Okpebholo, who is now the Governor of the State.

    Kaduna by-elections: APC wins Basawa, Zaria Kewaye constituencies

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Alhaji Dahiru  Umar-Sani of the APC as the winner of the election for the Basawa Constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

    Prof. Nasiru Rabiu of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, the INEC Returning Officer for the election, announced the result in Zaria.

    Rabiu said Umar-Sani secured 10, 996 votes to defeat his closest rival, Muazu Danyaro of PDP, who scored 5, 499 votes.

    He added that DanBala Usman of SDP scored 811 to come third, while Mahmuda Almustapha of ADC polled 146 votes.

    “Dahiru Umar-Sani of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,’’ the returning officer said.

    However, the returning officer said of the 18 political parties that contested the election only four parties presented candidates during the by-election for the Basawa State Constituency Election.

    APC wins Zaria Kewaye State House of Assembly by-election

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Isa  Mohammed (Ihamo) of the APC as winner of the election for Zaria Kewaye Constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

    Prof. Balarabe Abdullahi of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, the INEC Returning Officer for the election, announced the result in Zaria.

    Abdullahi said Mohammed secured 26,613 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nuhu  Muazu of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 5, 721 votes.

    He added that Mahmud Wappa of the People’s Democratic Party PDP scored 5,331 votes to come third.

    “Isa Haruna Mohammed of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,’’ the returning officer said.

    However, the returning officer said of the 19 political parties that contested the election, only six parties presented candidates for the by-election.

    BREAKING: INEC declares by-election in Zamfara inconclusive

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Saturday by-election conducted in Kaura-Namoda South, Zamfara State, as inconclusive.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports INEC declared the Kaura-Namoda South by-election inconclusive while announcing the results on Sunday morning.

    The results announced showed the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 7,001 votes and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) polled 5,339 votes.

    While APC is leading with a margin of 1,662, the number of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) collected in the cancelled polling areas of the constituency is 3,265, prompting the commission to declare the election as inconclusive.

    TNG reports the election followed the death of the lawmaker representing the constituency at the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Aminu Kasuwar-Daji, who passed away earlier this year.
