  • BREAKING: EFCC releases Innoson Motors founder, Innocent Chukwuma

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has released the Founder/Managing Director, Innoson Groups/Motors Limited, Chief Innocent Chukwuma who was arrested on Tuesday.

He was released on bail at exactly 7:30 pm on Wednesday 20th December, 2017. The EFCC confirmed it had released Innoson but has launched an investigation on him. The anti-graft agency had accused the automobile manufacturer of jumping bail, a reason it said it went for his arrest.

Meanwhile, his company also confirmed his release but said they would take legal actions to force the EFCC to provide the offence for which the automobile manufacturer was arrested.

His company equally accused EFCC of illegal arrest and detention without providing any offence for which Innoson was arrested.

The statement reads in part: “This evening Innoson was brought to the EFCC Lagos office but up till now, he has not been told his offence or reason for his arrest.

“The only offence or charge available to him now is the one read from EFCC Official Statement yesterday where they claimed he jumped bail and has refused to honour their previous invitation and that he is being investigated by the Capital Market and insurance fraud unit of the Commission.

This charge is yet to be read to him. “Innoson will wait for EFCC to show proof of this investigation because EFCC statement on his arrest has so much damaged his reputation and character which he has built over the years.

“While we await an official response from the EFCC on the main and real reason he was arrested, we want to this medium to thank Nigerians for the love and support shown and demonstrated to Innoson during this trial period of his life.

“The campaign #FreeInnoson was indeed overwhelming. Innoson truly appreciates this maximum support and in due time after this episode, formally address Nigerians on the main reason behind his travail.

    Thank You All.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of the founder and Chairman of Innoson Motors, Chief Innocent Chukwuma.

The Commission also alleged that he (Innoson) hired six truckloads of thugs to attacks its operatives when they went to arrest him at his Enugu residence.

The Spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement that Mr. Chukwuma was arrested after failing to honour a series of invitations in breach of the conditions of his administrative bail.

The statement read in part, “A well-known industrialist, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, popularly known by his company’s name, INNOSON, has been arrested by the EFCC. He was picked up at about 11am at his Savage Crescent, GRA Enugu residence on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

“His arrest followed his refusal to honour invitation by the commission having earlier jumped an administrative bail granted him in a case being investigated by the Capital Market and Insurance Fraud Unit of the commission’s Lagos office.

“Chukwuma, rather than honour the invitation by the EFCC, mobilised six truckloads of thugs pretending to be staff of his company to his residence, where they manhandled EFCC operatives.

“It took reinforcement from the Enugu office of the EFCC to arrest the industrialist who is currently being grilled by a team of investigators.”
