Online fraud: Court orders ‘Instagram CEO’ to refund money paid for human hair

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered one Nwanneka Nkumah, CEO Mizwanneka, an Instagram human hair vendor; to refund N79,500 she fraudulently obtained from her customer.

The magistrate, Mrs K.A. Ariyo, ruled that Nkumah should pay back the sum of N79, 500 which the claimant, one Mrs Shenayon Saka, paid into her account for the purchase of two human hair wigs.

Ariyo also awarded a cost of N20, 000 in favour of the claimant and 10 per cent interest per annum on the judgment debt until final payment is made.

Earlier, the suit had been filed jointly by the claimant and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, represented by the Principal State Counsel, C.S. Hunpe.

Hunpe had earlier submitted a summons before the court for the recovery of the debt due to the claimant.

She alleged that the claimant sent the sum of N77, 600 to the defendant for the purchase of two human hair wigs, following an online Christmas sales’ advert posted by her sometime in December 2019.

“The claimant also added the sum of N1, 900 to the defendant in April 2020 after she admitted to have received the money earlier sent to her.

“All attempts made by the claimant to retrieve the money or the hair wig from the defendant proved abortive.

“The defendant was given the opportunity to defend her case in the court but for reasons best known to her, she had failed to do so,” Hunpe said.

Why I don’t follow any page on IG – Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke

Nollywood superstar, Actor Jim Iyke has explained why he doesn’t follow any page on his Instagram account.

Jim Iyke made this known in a recent interview with media personality, Temisan Emmanuel, of Tea with Tay podcast.

Iyke said Instagram was a ‘pseudo’ reality and people should take it as their everyday life.

He said, “From day one I got on social media, I didn’t want to follow anybody. I wanted to establish the fact that this is a marketplace. It’s a pseudo-reality there. It’s not what people want to take as their everyday life.”

Continuing, he said: “If you see any of my posts, it’s tailored. I don’t post about my family. I don’t post my pleasures. There are certain things I think should be left for one to experience alone. There are three tiers of life that I live. I live the private life, the public life, and the secret life.

“Social media is public life. If I want to make a statement in style, if I want to make a statement on my ideology and principles, if I want to market something, or if I want to set a new understanding on my opinion of something, that is where I should be.

“If I’m having a good time with people that don’t mind being on that platform, I go there.”

Iyke also noted that he was protecting his kids from social media so that they won’t be judged by their actions or be noticed in public.

“I have kids that run the mall at every part of the world and no one will say, ‘I know that face’,” he said.

How I learnt to mix sounds – Fast-rising Nigerian DJ, DJ Wapsam

Fast-rising Nigerian disc jockey (DJ), Ayipada Samuel, popularly known as DJ Wapsam has opened up on how he learnt how to mix sounds.

DJ Wapsam in a recent interview with Adebayo Animasaun shared his way up to becoming most sought-after DJ in the music industry.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports DJ Wapsam’s sounds and mixes are used by popular celebrities and skit makers on their various social media posts.

The 24-year-old, who thinks his age is no barrier to reaching his potentials, opened up in this explosive interview on his growth and development as a DJ.

Speaking with TNG, DJ Wapsam said nobody taught him and that DJ is something he loved since when he was in secondary.

He revealed that at first, he did not get his parent’s support but that eventually he got their blessings.

“Age is just a number. I’ve been dominating since when I was 10 years old from drumming in church to school and always trying to outdo my age. So age is nothing when it comes to achieving my potentials.

‘”Music, sound inspired me to become a DJ. My parents did not support me from start though but later at some point that I needed major support, they were always there to support me spiritually, financially and physically.

“I’m done with my secondary school and now processing my university. DJs need to be educated, for some people, I guess they might have limitations because as a DJ you really need to know a lot of stuffs concerning spellings and more,” DJ Wapsam said.

Asked how he learnt to mix sounds, he said: “Nobody taught me. DJ is something I love since when I was in secondary and at that time my parents won’t allow me to go learn such thing, based on my environment and the looks people have for DJ then was not that good enough so I had to teach myself a lot of the major part of it with the help of YouTube and other online platforms.

“Playing for the first time on stage, I was so nervous but at the same time I always enjoy it whenever I’m DJing so that’s my major inspiration.

“I have been owed a lot after playing at an event, they come up with some excuses after the party and as time goes on they won’t remember to pay my balance”.

Furthermore, DJ Wapsam explained how his female fans have been a major push to his career, refusing to refer to the female fans as a distraction.

“I won’t call them distraction though, because they are the ones supporting, and spreading my mix. I still spend time with my childhood friends, they are my number one fans,” he said.

DJ Wapsam also noted that his religion is a pathway to his success, stressing that God has been on his side.

“My religion makes me go even harder and I always remember I have GOD on my side. I have a lot of purpose in life, want to be fountain of blessings to the whole world.

“I gain more amazing fan base, meet more top influencers and celebrities, more bookings too but my major concern is I get lesser credits for my works on Instagram, TikTok and other social media platforms,” DJ Wapsam said.

  • WhatsApp to launch 4 new big features in 2022

WhatsApp to launch 4 new big features in 2022

WhatsApp, a messaging platform owned by Meta, always updates with new features, and already, four new big updates have been lined up for early 2022.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports WhatsApp has been working on the new features for some time now.

From Instagram Reels to no time limit on ‘delete for everyone’ button, here are four new big features to expect on the app from early 2022.

    Instagram Reels

WhatsApp is looking to integrate Instagram Reels on the messaging app.

According to WhatsApp watchers WABetaInfo, the chatting platform could in early 2022 feature Instagram Reels.

It’s thought that Reels would have a dedicated space on the WhatsApp app.

This could be part of Meta’s plan to merge all the big social networking apps that it owns.

    WhatsApp logout

WABetaInfo, mentioned in the foregoing, has previously claimed that WhatsApp is working on a logout feature.

This feature would be in keeping with the multi-device update recently released. The feature could allow users logout on one device but remain logged in on another.

It was spotted being tested in the beta version of WhatsApp.

    Unlimited ‘delete for everyone’

One common complaint about WhatsApp is that you only get a certain amount of time to delete a message in a chat for everyone.

After 68 minutes and 16 seconds, your message will be there forever and you can only delete it for yourself.

This could be set to change in the future though. According to 91 mobiles, WhatsApp has tested leaving off a time limit for this feature and making it unlimited.

    Last seen

You can currently hide the time you were last seen on WhatsApp but you can’t hide it from specific contacts.

The company is said to be changing this so when you go to change your “Last Seen” settings you’ll see an option for “My Contacts Except”.

As with all rumours and features tested in beta, we can’t be sure any of these exciting features will be rolled out to the masses until we get official word from WhatsApp.

“What I can say is: If you go to the EFCC and spend the night, they have a serious case against you”, he said.

  • Facebook, Instagram, WhatsAPP return with apology

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsAPP return with apology

Facebook and its WhatsApp and Instagram apps went dark at around noon Eastern time, triggering a record 10.6 million problem reports, according to website monitoring group Downdetector.

It said the outage was the largest such failure it had ever seen.

Around 5:45 pm ET, some Facebook users began to regain partial access to the social media app.

WhatsApp continued to have connection problems for at least some people.

The outage was the second blow to the social media giant in as many days after a whistleblower on Sunday accused the company of repeatedly prioritizing profit over clamping down on hate speech and misinformation.

Shares of Facebook, which has nearly 2 billion daily active users, opened lower after the whistleblower report and slipped further to trade down 5.3% in afternoon trading on Monday. They were on track for their worst day in nearly a year, amid a broader selloff in technology stocks.
Security experts said the disruption could be the result of an internal mistake, though sabotage by an insider would be theoretically possible.

“Facebook basically locked its keys in its car,” tweeted Jonathan Zittrain, director of Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society.

The Independent of London explained what could have gone wrong:

“Facebook’s problems appeared to be related to the domain name system, or DNS. That is often referred to as the phone book of the internet, taking the URL a person types into their browser – such as Facebook.com – and turning it into a numerical address that can then be asked for the data that makes up the website being accessed.

“The company runs its own DNS, unlike many other smaller firms. As such, it is at liberty to make changes itself – and to remove those records, too, which was what seemed to have happened at some point on Monday.

“Without the correct DNS configurations, browsers were unable to access the Facebook website, and apps could not properly call the servers needed to fill up Instagram with new posts or WhatsApp with new messages.

“In all, a vast array of Facebook of services went down. They included not just its large apps but virtual reality platform Oculus, and office social network Workplace”.

Today’s outage is also not the worst or the longest in the company’s history.

In 2019, that record was set by a technical issue that lasted for more than 24 hours, and about which Facebook was largely cryptic in its explanations.
