I’m hearing Inter Milan striker joining Atletico Madrid – Vieri

Former Italy striker Christian Vieri is backing Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez for a move to Atletico Madrid.

Vieri is a former Atletico and Inter star.

He said, “I throw the bomb: Lautaro Martínez will go to Atlético de Madrid. They say it’s done. Well paid, they say.”

Lautaro has a deal to 2023 with Inter, but his future with Inter is again in doubt after a blow-up with coach Antonio Conte at the end of victory over Roma.

At Atletico, Lautaro would find fellow Argentine Diego Simeone, who is a big fan of the striker.

We’re proud to go to Juve as champions – Lautaro

Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez says the players will be proud going to Juventus as champions.

Inter go to Turin for the first game after being confirmed title winners.

“They had been winning for nine years, so it was important to go there and play the game with the Scudetto already won,” Lautaro told Sky Italia.

“They had been winning for nine years and we hadn’t won since 2011. We lost a Final last year, so we wanted to take something, and we did.

“We will go there with the 19th Scudetto in our pocket.”

Serie A: Inter Milan players refusing to take a pay-cut

Inter Milan’s players are refusing to take a pay-cut.

Inter president Steven Zhang has requested that players and staff give up two months’ wages to help owners Suning through a difficult period.

But La Repubblica reports none of the players or staff decided to accept the cut.

It seems as if the lesser option, delaying two months of their wages so they show up on the 2022-23 balance sheet, is not going to be accepted either.

Inter GM Beppe Marotta had assured players and staff that the proposal was voluntary.

Serie A: Inter Milan players told to accept pay-cuts

Former AC Milan striker Paolo di Canio has encouraged Inter Milan’s players to accept pay-cuts.

Reports suggest Inter’s title winning squad is being urged to surrender two months’ wages to help the club save €35m.

“I would surely take a pay cut if the club is struggling, it’s fair to help,” Di Canio told Sky Italia.

“Footballers are privileged and earn a lot of money. It is a pity to take a pay cut when you win the title, but I would accept it.

    “Common sense is needed.”

Man Utd selling Lukaku made no sense – Ashley Young

Ashley Young says Manchester United gaffed selling Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.

Former United captain Young has revealed he ‘couldn’t understand’ United’s decision to sell Lukaku.

“I said it at the time, I couldn’t understand the decision [to sell Lukaku],” Young told Sky Sports.

“Whether it was made quickly or not, Romelu has proved a lot of people wrong.

“He’s worked unbelievably hard. There was talk that he was overweight and couldn’t do this or that. He’s smashed record and made history in Italy, he’s been unbelievable for the club.

“For me he was fantastic even in the Premier League, to go out there and face another challenge, I think it was the right choice for him. He deserves all the plaudits he is getting.”

I spoke with Messi about Barca move – Lautaro

Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez admits he was close to joining Barcelona.

Lautaro says moving to Barca was considered last summer.

“I was truly very close to joining Barcelona and I even talked it over with Messi,” the 23-year-old confessed to ESPN Argentina.

“However, the Blaugrana had economic problems at that moment, so I decided to stay at Inter. It proved to be the right decision, especially as we then won the Scudetto.

“It’s just incredible to win the title at such an important club.”

El Toro also reveals he had been approached by the other Spanish giants too.

“Real Madrid did come for me twice when I was in the Racing youth team, but I wanted to make my name in Argentinean football first and only made the move to Europe when I was ready.

“I do dream one day of returning to Racing. The fans are just as ‘crazy’ and passionate as the Inter ones.”

I had given up too many times in my career – Lukaku

Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku feels he’s silenced his doubters with their Scudetto triumph.

Lukaku is full of pride over his role in the title victory.

He said, “I really hope that all the other Belgium players can win titles this year,” he said. “[Thibaut] Courtois, Eden and Thorgan Hazard, [Axel] Witsel, [Kevin] de Bruyne.

“It would be great for the team to bring this spirit to the national team as well, so that we can all move forward together.

“Winning a club title allows you to gain experience that helps you face the games in a better way. It gives you the killer mentality that I had missed a little during my career.”

The 27-year-old, who won the League title with Anderlecht and the FA Cup with Chelsea before joining Inter, admitted he has ‘given up’ too many times so far and needed to change his attitude.

“I have had too many moments where I have given up over the course of my career,” he continued. “Then I said to myself: ‘Enough, I’m tired, I’m 27 and it’s time for a change’. But my work doesn’t stop here.

“I’m happy because we won a title, but I’m already targeting the European Championship.”

Inter Milan end Juve’s dominance by winning first Scudetto since 2010

Inter Milan claimed the 19th Scudetto in club history on Sunday as the 1-1 draw between Atalanta and Sassuolo gifted the Nerazzurri a first Serie A championship since 2010.

It was also their first major title since winning the Coppa Italia in 2011.

Inter Milan last claimed the Scudetto in the 2009/2010 season, when Jose Mourinho led the Italian giants to a historic treble.

AC Milan then topped Serie A the following year, before Juventus established an era of dominance by winning nine consecutive titles.

The Nerazzurri temporarily went 13 points clear on the table after a 2-0 victory over already-relegated Crotone on Saturday.

Antonio Conte’s side were expected to end the title drought with four games remaining once Atalanta failed to beat Sassuolo.

The 1-1 draw was then enough for Inter Milan to secure the championship.

“We are, yes, we are. Champions of Italy. We can finally scream it, after dreaming of it, after keeping it hidden in the depths of our hearts, after holding on to it like a precious dream that we did not want to waste.

“We wear this Scudetto. Beautiful, emphatic, deserved. Long-awaited and yearned for,” Inter Milan wrote on their website.

And the newly-crowned champions also warned the fans to “celebrate responsibly”.

While the Scudetto has been secured, the top-four race is still wide open as Juventus fight for a UEFA Champions League spot.

The Bianconeri were 1-0 down just 10 minutes into the game as Nahuel Molina gave Udinese an early lead.

But Juve started to push forward and it paid off in the last minutes.

Cristiano Ronaldo ended his goal drought with a penalty kick and a header, helping the Old Lady finish the comeback.

Atalanta, Juventus, and AC Milan rank second to fourth all with 69 points.

Fifth-placed Napoli with 67 points also have Champions League aspirations after a 1-1 draw with Cagliari on Sunday.

In Sunday’s other fixtures, Lazio edged Genoa 4-3, Sampdoria conquered Roma 2-0, and Bologna shared the spoils with Fiorentina 3-3.

  • Eriksen, Hakimi score as Inter close on Serie A title

Eriksen, Hakimi score as Inter close on Serie A title

Inter Milan closed in on their first Italian Serie A title since 2010 with second-half goals from Christian Eriksen and Achraf Hakimi at Crotone.

Inter will be crowned champions on Sunday if second-placed Atalanta fail to claim all three points at Sassuolo.

Denmark midfielder Eriksen broke the deadlock shortly after being brought on as a substitute by boss Antonio Conte.

Hakimi added another in injury time as the away win also confirmed bottom side Crotone’s instant return to Serie B.

Even if Atalanta earn victory against eighth-placed Sassuolo, Inter know they would need just one point from their final four matches to lift the Scudetto.

Conte’s side are 14 points clear of Atalanta and have a superior head-to-head record over their nearest rivals.

It would represent another title triumph for Conte, who led Juventus to three consecutive Serie A titles between 2012 and 2014.

The former Italy and Chelsea manager has transformed Inter’s fortunes since arriving in May 2019, leading them to a Serie A runners-up finish and the Europa League final last season.

It followed a downturn in the club’s fortunes over much of the previous decade, having finished as low as ninth in 2013 and not reaching a major final in the previous seven seasons.
