Chelsea chiefs seeking to re-sign Lukaku

Chelsea chiefs are seeking to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Serie A league leader Inter Milan.

The Blues are open to offers for out-of-favour striker Tammy Abraham and that Olivier Giroud is likely to leave on a free transfer.

Those moves will free up funds for manager Thomas Tuchel to land a big-name forward to lead his line.

And The Sun says Tuchel turn his attention to Lukaku, with a bid in excess of £90million set to be made for the Inter Milan star.

Lukaku has been in sensational form this season, scoring 27 goals in 40 appearances to put the Italian giants on the brink of winning the Serie A title.

The Belgian was signed by Chelsea as a teenager nearly a decade ago but failed to make the grade at Stamford Bridge and was sent out on loan to West Brom and Everton, before making a permanent move to Goodison Park.

How I managed to sign Roberto Carlos to Real Madrid – Capello

Former Italian manager Fabio Capello has lifted the lid on signing Robert Carlos for Real Madrid.

The left-back was with Inter Milan in 1996, but was being played out of position and wasn’t happy.

When Capello learned that the player and the club were willing to accept a transfer, he pounced at the opportunity.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Capello explained on Sky Italia.

“Giovanni Branchini told me they were going to sell him and I thought ‘how can Inter be about to sell Roberto Carlos?’.

“Because I didn’t believe it, they sent me a fax with the price and it wasn’t an unquestionable sum, so I called the Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz and told him to fly straight to Milan. I explained that all Italian teams would go for him once the news got out.

“By 23:00, the contract was ready. In less than 24 minutes.”

Capello then made a joke about Roberto Carlos’ current physical state, as he enjoys life as a pundit.

“I wouldn’t have signed him if he were as fat as he is now!” the Italian said.

Serie A: Inter Milan close to first title since 2010

Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan moved a step closer to winning their first Serie A title since 2010 with a hard-fought victory against Hellas Verona.

Former Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian scored the game’s only goal, firing home in the 76th minute after being found by Achraf Hakimi.

The win means Inter are 13 points clear of second-place AC Milan, who play on Monday, with five games remaining.

Defending champions Juventus are third after they were held 1-1 by Fiorentina.

Dusan Vlahovic converted a first-half penalty to give Fiorentina the lead but former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata equalised when he fired into the top corner after spotting the goalkeeper off his line.

Watford ready to receive Inter Milan full-back

Watford are ready to welcome back Ashley Young from Inter Milan.

Former Manchester United captain Young, 35, is poised to leave Inter Milan this summer when his contract expires.

Watford are ready to offer an initial 12-month deal if they secure promotion back to the Premier League, says the Daily Mail.

Xisco’s men currently occupy the second automatic promotion spot in the Championship, seven points clear of third-placed Brentford with just five games to play.

Watford want to add top-flight experience to their squad if they can bounce straight back into the Premier League.

Young joined Watford as a 10-year-old and made 110 senior appearances before joining Aston Villa for £9.65million in 2007.

  • Serie A: We can still catch Inter Milan – Juve midfielder

Serie A: We can still catch Inter Milan – Juve midfielder

Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur insists they can still win the Scudetto this season.

Bentancur was happy with victory over Genoa on Sunday.

“In the first half we did very well in terms of mentality,” Bentancur told Sky Sport Italia. “We improved a lot, but we still have to get better. In the second half we dropped, we handed them the ball and conceded a goal.

“We know we have to do the work in the first half during the whole game. Pirlo hasn’t told anything about this now, but he will for sure do it on Tuesday, when we are back in training.”

Bentancur added: “Against Napoli and Genoa I felt good, I know I have to improve and I want to continue on this path.

“It will be very important against Atalanta, a tough challenge.

“They are there with us and want to qualify for the Champions League. In any case, even the Scudetto, even if it’s far away, is mathematically still within our reach.

“We must continue to win every game in order to reach the maximum at the end of the season.”

I’m a better player working with Conte – Lautaro

Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez says he’s a better player working with coach Antonio Conte.

Lautaro scored in last night’s win against Sassuolo.

He said, “It’s a dream for me to be here, in a big club. I always try to improve and I know that I have to continue getting stronger. I have the faith of my teammates and staff, so I must repay that on the field.

“I have grown with Conte, mentally and tactically. I thank him and my teammates.

“I also want to congratulate Sassuolo, because they had so much possession today and played really well.”

La Liga giant revive interest in Inter Milan striker

La Liga giant Barcelona are reviving their interest in Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

The Catalan club were strongly linked with a move for the Inter forward last summer, but they refused to pay the Argentine’s 111 million euro release clause.

RAC1 says that while Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland remains Barcelona’s priority, Lautaro is once again on their shortlist as the Blaugrana look to fill the Luis Suarez-shaped hole in their XI.

Part of the reason behind Barcelona being unable to sign Lautaro last summer was due to the fact that they had little to no money available, yet Inter are also having financial struggles of their own.

As a result, RAC1 claim that a swap deal between Barcelona and Inter could take place involving the 23-year-old and some members of Ronald Koeman’s squad.

Chelsea plan sensational move to re-sign Lukaku

Premier League club Chelsea are planning a sensational move to re-sign Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku.

A new striker has become a priority for the Blues after watching their front line struggle to hit the mark. Their £53million signing Timo Werner has managed just five league goals since joining last season while Olivier Giroud has four.

The Telegraph says should they admit defeat in their bid to land Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, then they will move their attentions to Inter Milan’s Lukaku, according to the Telegraph.

The big Belgian – who joined Chelsea as an 18-year-old back in 2011 – was unable to convince a handful of managers that he was good enough for the first team at Stamford Bridge. First he was loaned to West Brom and then Everton – with Jose Mourinho selling him to to the Toffees in 2014.

Now 27, Lukaku has proven himself to be one of the top forwards in Europe having netted 87 times in 166 games in Merseyside before securing an £75m move to Manchester United in 2017.

  • Inter Milan hard work now paying off – Conte

Inter Milan hard work now paying off – Conte

Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte was pleased with their 3-0 defeat of Genoa.

Romalu Lukaku, Matteo Darmian and Alexis Sanchez struck for the Serie A leaders.

Conte said, “We played against a Genoa side in great shape who I think had earned just one fewer point than we did in this period.

“We had the right approach, allowing Genoa little other than a few crosses. We scored three goals, Mattia Perin had to make several big saves, so we are happy.

“All the work is paying off, it had already started to last year, but the team is developing belief in its capabilities, understanding the situations both on and off the ball, when to be aggressive, when to hold possession.

“We know there are 14 games to go. As I said, facing Genoa and Parma seems easy on paper, but we have to prove that we are a team who always have our ears pricked for danger, not just in the big games, so we can give the Inter fans the joy they deserve.”

I spoke to Barca, but… – Lautaro Martinez

Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez admits he’s spoken to Barcelona.

However, Lautaro says he’ll now commit to a new Inter deal.

“It’s true, I was in negotiations with Barcelona. I was clear with Conte, I told him: ‘I think about Inter only, this is not going to affect me.’ However, it all belongs to the past, I am going to sign a contract extension with Inter,” the Argentinean told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I don’t know when there will be an official announcement. Meanwhile I play. My future is here, I see myself in Milan for long time.

“I like everything about this city. The food, the fans, the team. I only have positive feelings.”
