Lukaku to undergo Chelsea medical today

Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku is set to undergo a Chelsea medical on Sunday.

The Athletic reports Lukaku will undergo a medical on Sunday ahead of a £97.5m move.

They add that Chelsea have agreed a club record move for the striker, who is expected to sign a five-year deal at the club with a contract worth around £195,000-a-week after tax.

That is set to make him the highest paid player at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea determined to get the finer details agreed by Sunday so he can feature in their league opener next weekend.

United could yet pocket around £3million for clauses in the deal that took him to Italy, with Lukaku said to be willing to join his former club despite being happy on the continent.

Romelu Lukaku has requested not to be considered by Inter Milan for Sunday’s friendly against Parma.

A reported £100 million-plus move to Chelsea for Lukaku is now edging closer.

Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedulla reports Lukaku has refused to play for his current club in their pre-season friendly against Parma with a return to Chelsea imminent.

And a phone call is reportedly planned today between Inter and Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia to complete the deal.

Lukaku made 10 appearances for Chelsea between 2011 and 2014 before being sold to Everton by former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

His 24 goals in 30 appearances for Inter played a big role in their Scudetto winning campaign last season.

Everyone will know Chelsea reasons – Lukaku agent

The agent of Romelu Lukaku has broken his silence amid speculation Chelsea want to sign the Inter Milan striker.

Inter are holding out for €130m, but the news is not going down well with the fanbase.

A group of Inter supporters hung a banner outside the San Siro on Wednesday telling Suning to ‘watch out’ if a deal is sanctioned for Lukaku.

Fans have also bombarded the Instagram page of Lukaku’s agent, Federico Pastorello, to vent their anger over the last few days, which forced one supporter to issue an apology on Thursday night.

“I apologise on behalf of Inter fans for the bad words in these comments… everything is fine, but exaggerating in this way seems too much to me,” the message said.

“But if you can do what you can to keep Lukaku you would make many happy… Otherwise thanks anyway and good luck.”

Responding with a short message, which has since been deleted, Pastorello said: “Thank you for these words of yours. You will be able to hear our reasons soon, however this turns out.”

Ex-Juve president: Lukaku cannot resist Chelsea contract offer

Former Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli says Inter Milan selling Romelu Lukaku is understandable.

Chelsea are prepared to pay £100m to land the Belgium international.

Cobolli Gigli reflected on TMW: “The problem is serious, real and must be there for all to see. Ge

“Inter are forced to do what they did: I am not saying that I wish them to win the Scudetto, this I never could, but I wish them to find harmony. Lukaku, who wanted stay, when he heard about 12-13 million euros net he started thinking with his own pockets.

“If he leaves, it’s about replacing him with someone who will not be like him but who can manage the situation together with the coach.”

  • Man Utd to receive £50m plus in Chelsea, Lukaku move

Man Utd to receive £50m plus in Chelsea, Lukaku move

Manchester United could be due a massive windfall if Chelsea land Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku.

United are reportedly still owed £47million by Inter Milan in Lukaku transfer payments, says the Daily Express.

And they could earn even more if the striker joins Chelsea this summer due to a sell-on clause they have.

Inter signed Lukaku for £73million in 2019 from United and agreed a deal to pay in instalments. But the Italian champions still have £47m left to pay.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph says when Lukaku left Old Trafford, a sell-on clause entitling United to four and five per cent of any future sale was included.

As such a £100m deal could see £5m going to United.

Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has rejected a bumper contract offer from Chelsea.

Chelsea have explored the prospect of signing Lukaku for a second time, reports Corriere dello Sport, and made a contract offer to his minders.

Chelsea tabled a package worth €10m-a-year, but Lukaku has rejected the proposal.

The Blues were also prepared to pay over €100m to Inter for the Belgium international, knowing the Nerazzurri’s owners, Suning, need to sell to ease debt problems.

However, the deal now appears off after Lukaku’s decision.

Marcos Alonso has made a transfer request at Chelsea.

Gazzetta dello Sport says the fullback wishes to leave Chelsea for a return to Serie A.

The former Fiorentina defender wants to join Inter Milan this summer.

Chelsea are asking for €15-20m for Alonso, whereas Inter would prefer a loan with option to buy.

It’s reported in Italy that Alonso is pushing Chelsea to let him leave, but his contract runs to June 2023.

The English club paid €23m to sign Alonso from Fiorentina in 2016.

  • Eriksen’s football career in Italy not possible with defibrillator

Eriksen’s football career in Italy not possible with defibrillator

Danish international footballer Christian Eriksen will not be able to continue his career with Italian Serie A champions Inter Milan with his implanted defibrillator.

“Only if the defibrillator is removed from him and a specialist can show that he is physically well again can he play for Inter Milan again,” Francesco Braconaro, a member of the scientific commission at the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), said on Thursday.

“It is not possible in Italy to issue a match permit for a professional with a defibrillator,” he said.

Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during the match against Finland at the beginning of the 2020 European Championship in Copenhagen in June and had to be resuscitated.

The 29-year-old was then implanted with a defibrillator that detects cardiac arrhythmias and triggers shocks in an emergency.

His contract with Inter Milan runs until summer 2024.

In Italy, much stricter rules apply in this respect than in other European leagues.

For example, former Dutch international Daley Blind of Ajax Amsterdam plays with a defibrillator.

Meanwhile, new Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is hoping for a return of his top Danish star.

“He needs time to recover. But of course we will welcome him back with open arms,” Inzaghi said.

  • I join Roma far better than I was with Inter Milan – Mourinho

I join Roma far better than I was with Inter Milan – Mourinho

New Roma coach Jose Mourinho says he returns to Italian football a better technician than he was ten years ago with Inter Milan.

Mourinho touched down in Rome yesterday to take charge of his Giallorossi squad.

He told the club’s website: “I’m much better now. I’m serious – because I think this is a job where experience means a lot. Experience makes everything look like deja vu because you went through so many experiences since I left Italy.

“I went to Real Madrid which was an incredible experience, where I reached my dream of winning in Italy, England and Spain. Then back to England where my family is based and of course I wanted to come.

“I even have extreme experience of taking a team to a final and not playing the final which is something I thought would never happen in my career and it happened.

“So with so many experiences and learning with the good moments and with the bad moments, I am much more prepared now than I was.”

  • I belong on world class list – Lukaku

I belong on world class list – Lukaku

Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has declared himself “world class”.

Lukaku feels he still doesn’t get the recognition he deserves.

He said, “I have progressed a great deal, but always try to give more. Everyone talks about form, but I think it’s more that I have stepped up a level in my career and now I’m trying to make another step. The objective is to win the Euros with Belgium.

“When people talk about Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema or Harry Kane, they are called ‘world class’ – but when it comes to me, it’s just considered ‘good form.’

“That motivated me to work harder and get stronger. Now I believe that I belong in that list of world class players.”

Lukaku was asked about his rivalry with Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I’d like to have Ronaldo’s dribbling skills and his shot. I think he’d like my power and the way I play with my back to the goal.”
