DSS queries Sowore over alleged links with Boko Haram, IPOB, IMN

The Department of State Services has interrogated the detained publisher of Saharareporters, Omoyele Sowore, over alleged links with Boko Haram, Indigenous People of Biafra and Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

His lawyer, Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria, disclosed this in a statement, amidst reports that the Attorney-general and Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami had asked for Sowore’s case file.

Falana said the interrogation on Thursday lasted four hours and was witnessed by Abubakar Marshal, one of Sowore’s lawyers.

Falana suspected that the DSS, which he called by its old name of SSS, possibly wanted to charge Sowore with terrorism.

    Falana wrote:

“Convinced that the pending case would collapse like a pack of cards the SSS is currently fishing for evidence to nail Sowore. In spite of the directive of the AGF to take over the case the SSS subjected Sowore to a 4-hour interrogation yesterday (12/12/19).

“The entire interrogation pertained to Sowore’s alleged links with the proscribed Boko Haram sect, IPOB and IMN which he vehemently denied. At Sowore’s instance a member of the legal defence team, Mr. Abubakar Marshal witnessed the marathon interrogation. The plan of the SSS is to charge Sowore with terrorism in line with the unsubstituted allegations of presidential media aides.

“It is not a take over because it was the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, that filed the Sowore’s case and farmed it out to Dr. Hassan Liman SAN. But in view of the violent invasion of the court by armed operatives of the SSS the AGF has decided to sack the prosecution team and have the case prosecuted by the DPP.

Having been advised that Sowore cannot be convicted on the basis of the proof of evidence filed in court the SSS has refused to make the statements of the prosecution witness available to the defendants as ordered by the trial court. Hence, hearing in the case has been adjourned till February 20, 2020 at the instance of the Prosecution.

“In view of the foregoing we urge the AGF to file a nolle prosequi motion without any further delay to end the macabre dance which has exposed the country to avoidable embarrassment”.

  • IPOB denies doctoring video of Nigerian soldiers killed by Boko Haram

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday, rebuffed the allegation that the group was responsible for the release of the video portraying the killing of some Nigerian soldiers by Boko Haram terrorists.

According to the Nigerian Army, the recent viral video was the fabrication of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sagir Musa, in a statement on Wednesday, also said the video was not an occurrence that took place in Nigeria.

Reacting to the allegation, IPOB’s media and publicity secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful described the accusation as unguarded, shameful and thoroughly unsubstantiated.

The spokesman said the video of Boko Haram torturing and humiliating the Nigerian Army was real and verifiable. He added that the IPOB has more important things to do than venture in such activities.

Powerful, however, added that the Nigerian Army should hire forensic experts to provide evidence that the video was fabricated.

He said: “This recent statement from the thoroughly disgraceful, undignified institution called Nigerian military accusing IPOB of being behind the recent trending video where Boko Haram members torturing and humiliating Nigerian army personnel is laughable.

“This unguarded, shameful and thoroughly unsubstantiated accusation is very typical of an army that specializes in attacking civilian populations in the south but cringe at the sight of a well-armed opposition in the north.

“It is quite pathetic how the Nigeria army would belittle themselves so shamelessly in the eyes of the world by involving IPOB in their futile attempt to deflect attention from their impotence and failed effort to fight a terrorism menace they themselves created in Nigeria.

“IPOB has more important things to do than engaging in doctoring a video that is so clear for all to see. Maybe the Army thinks the world is as undiscerning as their typical Nigerian. Rather than coming out in public to make a complete fool of themselves; Buratai and his Nigerian Army should invite forensic experts to corroborate their claim if they are confident they are speaking the truth.

“The video of Boko Haram torturing and humiliating the cowardly Nigerian Army that specializes in committing crimes against unarmed populations in Biafra is real and verifiable. IPOB has nothing to do with the trending video and cannot involve itself with this brotherly spat between Boko Haram and Nigeria Army because they have the same Fulanisation agenda for Nigeria.

“Nigeria Army and Boko Haram are both terrorist organisations pursuing the same goal with the only difference being that Nigerian army specialise exclusively, in attacking civilians in the east.

“This shameful statement from Nigeria Army proves that the Nigeria Army and her sisters’ security outfits in Nigeria have lost control of their phony war against Boko Haram and as usual are looking to blame IPOB for their pitiful plight.

“Northern elders (allegedly) formed and sponsored Boko Haram to perfect their plans to islamize and Fulanize Nigeria and to make Jonathan’s government ungovernable which they succeeded in doing. We must not forget that Major-General Muhammadu Buhari was named the chief negotiator by Boko Haram for the failed talks in Saudi Arabia in 2014.

“Nigeria soldiers should leave IPOB alone and focus on fighting the monster they created.

“We pity Nigeria Army and gullible Nigerians who cannot see the inevitable violent collapse of Nigeria. What is happening today in Nigeria is the worst form of organized state-sponsored hypocrisy.

“Nigeria is imploding gradually and no amount of lies against IPOB will avert the impending doom of the failed British contraption.”

Video of Boko Haram killing soldiers fabricated by IPOB – Army

The Nigerian Army says the recent video clip allegedly released by Boko Haram terrorists portraying capture and killing of some Nigerian soldiers was the fabrication of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sagir Musa, in a statement on Wednesday said that the video was not an occurrence that took place in Nigeria.

He urged the public and personnel of Nigerian army, especially those in the North East theatre of operation, to disregard the video.

According to him, it is a video concocted to cause disunity and fragmentation of Nigeria.

“Accordingly, the call by one Simon Ekpa, (the principal actor in the clip), calling on soldiers of South East extraction presently serving in the North East to desert the Army and return to Biafra proved it.

“Also, the call on South Easterners not to join the Nigerian Army is an obvious indication of the essence and objective of the masterminds of this fake video which should be discountenanced by the public.

“Meanwhile the leadership of the Nigerian Army wish to also reiterate its unflinching commitment to sustain the war against terrorism.

“It shall not be deterred by the evil machinations or propagandist activities of mischievous persons whose main interest is the disunity of our beloved nation,” he said.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that a video purportedly released by the terrorists portraying the stage showing the capture and killing of some Nigerian soldiers by the terrorists group went viral on social media on Tuesday.

  • IPOB claims responsibility for attack on Amaechi in Spain

…vows to attack more ‘corrupt’ politicians in diaspora

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) says its members were responsible for the attack on Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Confirming the incident via his Twitter handle, Amaechi had said he was attacked by “misguided Nigerians” while attending an event on climate change in Madrid, Spain on Friday. The minister also confirmed that he was rescued unhurt by the Spanish police.

However, IPOB said the attack was the order of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

According to IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group has no personal issue against Amaechi, adding that the attack was carried out as part of a plot targetted at particular politicians.

He said it was the same order that led to the attack on former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, in Nuremberg, Germany, in August.

The spokesman also said similar fate awaits “all corrupt politicians who brought hardship to the people.”

“It is not a personal problem against him. It is a standing order against all of them and we are looking for all of them,” he told TheCable.

“It is based on the standing order given by our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to IPOB, Spain, to beat the minister of transport, Chibuike Amaechi.

“IPOB is warming all those corrupt politicians who brought hardship to the people that we are waiting for them anywhere we meet. We will continue,” he added.

“We are telling the whole world why they must be dealt with because they are not sincere to the people to the suffering citizens.”

  • Human rights group decries growing spate of crimes by IPOB, IMN

As terrorist groups continue to take laws into their hands Following the gruesome murder of two police officers by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Monday in Oraifite, Anambra State, human rights group have called for drastic measures to avert future occurrence.

The Coalition for Human Rights Monitoring Groups in Nigeria (CHRMGN) condemned the growing spate of war crimes perpetrated by proscribed sects – IPOB and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

The coalition of human rights groups made this known at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday as a fallout from the killing of two police officers by IPOB members loyal to the Lawyer representing their leader Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement by convener, Gabriel Agibi, the groups revealed these radical sects are sponsored by enemies of Nigeria, with the ultimate aim of causing unrest in the country.

The recent killing of security agents, the coalition reckoned, follows IMN’s trend – as both have unapologetically committed crimes against humanity. As a matter of national interest, the coalition urged Nigerians to disassociate themselves from IPOB and Shiites members owing to their violent and terrorist tendencies.

CHRMGN, therefore, called on relevant authorities in the country to bring the leadership of both radical groups to justice, else be faced with an upsurge of militant groups carrying out actions that would undermine national security. The coalition further urged relevant authorities at the International Criminal Court to act to serve as a deterrent to others in the future.

  • Declaring Kanu’s lawyer wanted baseless – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has described as baseless the Police declaration of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor wanted.

The group said the plan was not only to intimidate other lawyers from accepting IPOB’s cases but to truncate its struggle for a republic.

The Anambra Police Command had on Tuesday declared Ejiofor wanted following alleged killing of two police officers in Oraifite in the Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.

The police said he was declared wanted over alleged cases of conspiracy, murder, treasonable felony, arson and armed robbery.

But IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, in a statement maintained that Ejiofor was innocent of the allegations levelled against him.

The statement read in part,” The only reason why the police declared our lawyer wanted is to stop him from handling IPOB cases and to make sure he does not attend court in January 2020.

” Part of the wider motive, however, is to intimidate lawyers into not accepting IPOB cases. In their warped thinking, Aso Rock thinks this will pave the way for spineless judges to do their bidding. They want to use the courts to stop the raging Biafra agitation.

“The purported and useless declaration made by the Commissioner of Police in Awka against IPOB lawyer Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor is baseless.

“We all are aware of how this same Nigeria Police and the military used the same words when they invaded the home of our leader on September 14, 2017.

“They can go on deceiving gullible Nigerians about their motive for the barbaric invasion of Barrister Ejiofor’s home but the facts are all there for the world to see.

“When they invaded Afaraukwu it was in pursuit of a truck laden with explosives, today the story has changed to enforcement of a mere petition.

“It’s the height of incredulity to think that any sensible person will buy such a story.

“Nigeria Police always intimidate and kill people at will and they always try to justify their crime by declaring people wanted.

“Nigeria Police must come out to tell the whole world why they took this decision to kill Barrister Ejiofor and his family. Police shooting sporadically in the compound of a man they claim they invited for questioning leaves their motive in no doubt in the minds of the public. They came to kill him.

“Those responsible for this carnage in Ejiofor’s compound will pay dearly for it and they know they would,” the IPOB publicist stated.

Meanwhile, the people of Oraifite have condemned the killing of two senior police officers, an assistant commissioner of police and assistant superintendent of police in the community.

The community, under the auspices of Oraifite Improvement Union (OIU), in a statement, totally dissociated itself from the acts of the criminals responsible for the abomination.

It said the act was uncharacteristic of Oraifite culture and tradition.

The community banned six masquerades groups whose activities allegedly caused the mayhem.

The masquerades banned are: Otu-Eke, Otu-Afor, Otu-wo, Otu-Orie and Out-Ube, Otu Ayaka and all other forms of night masquerades.

The trio of Sir Sunny Igboanuzue, President General of Oraifite Improvement Union his secretary Offor Uche, and the traditional ruler of the Oraifite,, HRH Igwe Daniel Udeoji signed the statement on behalf of the community.

The statement read in part, “The leadership of Oraifite town cannot keep quite and allow criminal gangs, cultists and miscreants take over the town and tarnish the image of the good people of Oraifite”, the statement noted.

“What happened on Dec. 2, 2019, leading to the killing of some men of the Nigerian Police Force was uncharacteristic of Oraifite culture and tradition.

“The acts are condemned without equivocation in its totality. The good and peace-loving people of Oraifite totally dissociate themselves from the acts of the criminals responsible for the abomination.

“The OIU, the Isi Obi of Oraifite, the Obis of Oraifite, the Quarter Chairmen and the entire people will provide full, unrestrained and active support to the Nigerian Police Force and other Law Enforcement Agencies towards a fair and effective investigation of this dastardly act in order to bring all those directly, and indirectly responsible to book.”

The statement added that the criminal activities of certain nefarious groups which acted as catalysts to the tragic events of Dec.2 have been proscribed and banished from operating in Oraifite.

The community warned that anybody found to indulge in any of the proscribed practices shall be immediately apprehended and handed over to Law Enforcement for due prosecution as a criminal.

Oraifite people further stated that all groups proscribed by law or through the exercise by any constituted authority of Government- whether State or Federal-or legitimate powers of office, have no place of operation in Oraifte.

The people, however, expressed condolences to the Nigerian Police Force in particular and the families of the officers who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.

  • It’s a lie, we didn’t kill policemen in Anambra – IPOB insists

The Indigenous People of Biafra has denied the alleged attack and killing of two policemen in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area on Monday.

The group’s spokesman, Emma Powerful said the allegations by the Police in Anambra that it killed two of its men when they visited the house of their leader’s lawyer, Barr Ifeanyi Ejiofor’s home was a lie.

On the contrary, the group said it was the police that killed three members of the IPOB and took away their corpses to conceal the act.

A press statement by Emma Powerful exonerated the group from the alleged attacks, insisting that it was the police who set the home of Ejiofor on fire, while one of its trucks was also gutted because the police handled the fuel used in setting the house on fire carelessly.

Part of the release read, “The unprovoked Nigeria police and army invasion of the home of our lawyer Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor barely four days after the painful burial of his senior brother is proof that those running Nigeria have descended into the abyss of iniquity from which they may never recover.

“Not even during the darkest days of Abacha’s dictatorship did anyone witness such brazen intimidation of a legal counsel or the attempted assassination of a defence counsel in a high profile case.

“For the police to say there was a criminal complaint against Barrister Ejiofor bothering on assault and kidnapping four days after the funeral of his brother is most stupid and laughable. A criminal complaint from who? Who did he kidnap, the body of his dead brother?” The group queried.

The statement further stated, “The only reason for this unprovoked criminal invasion with deadly intent is to kill Barrister Ejiofor and to stop him from attending Federal High Court Abuja next month where he has all but defeated the Attorney General in the matter of Federal Government of Nigeria versus IPOB.

“It is the same strategy of ‘invade and kill’ doctrine that was deployed at Isiama-Afaraukwu the home of our leader on 14 September 2017 a month before he is due in court that is played out in Oraifite yesterday.

“The truth remains that Nigeria Police and Army went to the home of Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor with the sole purpose of killing him before next month’s court date as is now their tradition.

“On getting there they opened fire on unarmed civilians as usual and the two men that came out of the house were shot dead instantly. The police carried their dead and dying bodies into their van to conceal evidence and drove off. These are facts backed by evidence Anambra Police cannot deny.

“After killing two unarmed and innocent civilians, before they left the police doused Barrister Ejiofor’s home with petrol and set it on fire. This was the reality yesterday in Oraifite Anambra State. It was the carelessness of the police in handling the petrol they used to drench Barrister Ejiofor’s home and nearby businesses before setting them on fire that trailed back and led to the fire that gutted their van.

“It is on record that IPOB remains a peaceful movement, therefore, this latest desperate attempt by this lying Fulani controlled Nigeria Police to equate our activities with their home-grown Miyetti Allah (Fulani herdsmen) terrorist organisation is a waste of time.”

  • BREAKING: Police declare Kanu’s lawyer wanted over death of two officers

Police in Anambra State have declared Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lawyer to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu wanted.

The Commissioner of Police, John Abang disclosed this in a press conference in Awka on Tuesday.

He said the declaration of the lawyer and his cohorts wanted, was in connection with the alleged brutal murder of two Police officers in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State on Monday.

He said, “I’ll like Nigerians to know that Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor (a member of the proscribed IPOB) has been declared wanted.

“I’ll seek the cooperation of law-abiding Nigerians, East, West, North and South that wherever they find this individual, they should report to the nearest Police Station for possible arrest and prosecution based on the rules and laws of Nigeria.”

Police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, had disclosed that two Police officers were killed by the suspected IPOB members while others were inflicted with machete cuts in the incident.

He said, “On the 2/12/2019 at about 11:30 am, there was a formal complaint against One Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor ‘m’ (a member of the proscribed IPOB) in Oraifite on alleged case of abduction, assault occasioning harm and malicious damage to property.

“Following the report, Police Patrol teams led by the Area Commander, Oraifite ACP Oliver Abbey mobilised and rushed to the scene in order to arrest the suspect who declined Police invitation.

“However, as soon as Police arrived the house, armed men suspected to be IPOB members descended on the Police, set ablaze one Patrol vehicle and attacked them with rifles and machetes.

“As a result of the attack, two Police officers whose identities are being withheld were killed by the suspected IPOB members while others were inflicted with machete cuts.

“The injured personnel were rushed to the hospital for medical attention and are presently receiving treatment.

“Consequently, the Command deployed reinforcements from the State Headquarters comprising of PMF, SARS and Special Anti Cult Units in conjunction with the Army/other Sister agencies who cordoned off the area in order to fish out the culprits, while Joint patrol are still ongoing in the town to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

“Some arrests were made and the Commissioner of Police CP John Abang who is on his way to the scene has vowed to bring perpetrators of this dastardly act to justice.”

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the police of setting on fire the home of Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lawyer of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu in Oraifite, Anambra State.

In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group wondered why the Police would go further to raze the lawyer’s home even after killing two unarmed and innocent civilians.

It explained that the carelessness of the police in handling the petrol they used to drench Barr. Ejiofor’s home and nearby businesses before setting them on fire that trailed back, leading to the fire that gutted their van.

The statement partly read, “The unprovoked Nigeria police and army invasion of the home of our lawyer Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor barely four days after the painful burial of his senior brother is proof that those running Nigeria have descended into the abyss of iniquity from which they may never recover.

“Not even during the darkest days of Abacha’s dictatorship did anyone witness such brazen intimidation of a legal counsel or the attempted assassination of a defence counsel in a high profile case.

“It is the golden rule of every legal system under the Sun that defence counsels are not harassed, intimidated or killed but it seems nothing is sacrosanct in the present circumstance.

“We don’t expect the roundly docile and cowardly Nigeria Bar Association or their impotent and subdued National Judicial Council to rise up in condemnation of this contemptuous behaviour by Aso Rock in this latest attempt to kill Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor.

“This level of dictatorial impunity against the rule of law, judicial process and natural justice must not be condoned by any right-thinking person.

The group described the statement issued by the Police as self-incriminating laden with blatant lies, falsehood and deception.

“For the police to say there was a criminal complaint against Barr. Ejiofor bothering on assault and kidnapping four days after the funeral of his brother is most stupid and laughable. Criminal complaint from who? Who did he kidnap, the body of his dead brother

“Who did he assault, Justice Binta Nyako? Where, when and how did he commit these crimes? The Nigeria Police never wrote to Barr. Ejiofor neither did they invite him to attend their station.

“This is a black lie. If they did, they should release the call log of the phone they claim they used in calling him. Does the Nigerian Police think the public is as daft as they are?

“The only reason for this unprovoked criminal invasion with deadly intent is to kill Barrister Ejiofor and to stop him from attending Federal High Court Abuja next month where he has all but defeated the Attorney General in the matter of Federal Government of Nigeria versus IPOB because Nigeria has no case against IPOB.

“The same strategy of invade and kill doctrine they deployed in Isiama-Afaraukwu the home of our leader on 14 September 2017 a month before he is due in court is what played out in Oraifite yesterday.

“The Nigeria Police claim two of their officers were killed by IPOB members but there were four dead bodies in the burnt out police vehicle. What any investigative journalist worth his salt should ask is, who are the other two victims, where did they come from and what were they doing in a police van?

“Answers to these questions will reveal that Nigeria Police Command in Anambra State are unrepentant liars.

“The truth remains that Nigeria Police and Army went to the home of Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor with the sole purpose to kill him before next month’s court date as is now their tradition.

“On getting there they opened fire on unarmed civilians as usual and the two men that came out of the house were shot dead instantly.

“The police carried their dead and dying bodies into their van to conceal evidence and drove off. These are facts backed by evidence Anambra Police cannot deny.

“It is on record that IPOB remains a peaceful movement therefore this latest desperate attempt by the Nigeria Police to equate our activities with Miyetti Allah terrorist organisation is a waste of time, “the group stated.

The Police command in Anambra have confirmed the death of two police officers, allegedly attacked and shot by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) at Oraifite in Ekwusigo council area of the state.

The command’s spokesman, Mr Haruna Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement in Awka on Monday.

Part of the statement read, “on the 2/12/2019 at about 11:30 am, there was a formal complaint against one Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a member of the proscribed IPOB in Oraifite on alleged case of abduction, assault occasioning harm and malicious damage to property.

  • Onitsha tanker explosion not ordinary – IPOB

Onitsha tanker explosion not ordinary – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has described Wednesday Onitsha tanker explosion that claimed lives as a terrorist attack.

It said nobody should be deceived that such incidents were mere accidents, insisting that it was designed to exterminate Biafrans from the face of the earth.

In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB said the repeated mishaps in the southern part of the country were a clear demonstration that they were being clinically executed by certain people.

Commiserating with the families of the deceased, the group wondered why such incidents were not happening in certain parts of the country where even the owners of such articulated vehicles hail from.

The statement partly read, “With a profound sense of deep sorrow and sadness we commiserate with all the families and communities that lost loved ones over the terror attack in Onitsha on the 16 October 2019.

“This is not the first time an articulated lorry or a tanker driven by terrorist laden inflammable liquid has been involved in mass fatalities in Onitsha or other parts of Anambra State.

“The story is always the same, it’s either their trailer had brake failure or their tanker exploded, all resulting in massive loss of lives and destruction of individually owned businesses.

“We the Indigenous People of Biafra call these callous and wicked acts for what it is- a cowardly terrorist attack designed by those evil men determined to exterminate we Biafrans from the face of the earth and carried out by those that think they are serving a Jihadi cause that will bring about the Islamisation of Biafraland through terrorism.

“At a time when herdsmen sponsored are actively engaged in the forceful acquisition of our lands in Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra and Abia, aided by the Nigerian Army under the guise of Operation Python Dance 4, this massive loss of lives and businesses in Onitsha is most unwelcome.

“The question we keep asking is, why are there no exploding tankers in crowded streets of Kano, Kaduna or Sokoto?

“Why must tankers driven by northerners always explode in the south or the brakes of their trailers always fail in Biafraland?

“It is time now for our people to wake up to this new reality of population reduction by those intent on the destruction of the Biafran race”.
