IPOB insists there won’t be election in Anambra

The Indigenous People of Biafra on Sunday insisted that the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State would not hold.

It said the group would not allow any election process that would perpetuate slave status and misery among the people of the area.

In a statement by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful in Awka, the Anambra State capital, IPOB said it had not shifted ground on the issue contrary to insinuations in some quarters.

The group said it would use the Anambra poll to demonstrate to the world that IPOB would not make empty threats.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar had warned that it would deal ruthlessly with any group that would threaten the Anambra poll.

He said, ” The election had been scheduled by an authorised government agency; nobody, including IPOB, has the capacity to stop it.

He said the police in the state had the capacity to suppress such threat, warning that those nursing such plot to have a rethink or be ready to face the wrath of the law.

Umar added” Anambra Citizens have the right to have periodic elections to elect their leaders; nobody or group of persons can deny them such right.

“We are here to provide them the protection to exercise their franchise. Nobody can’t stop them from exercising their constitutional rights. We shall have no option than to suppress such threat. We have the capacity to do so”, Umar stated.

But IPOB in the press state on Sunday maintained that it would truncate the poll.

“Biafrans cannot be reasonably expected to agree to any electoral process that will only perpetuate their current slave status and misery in this colonial contraption named Nigeria.

“While we may accept being routinely killed and dispossessed outside our land, such intimidation cannot be allowed to go unchecked in Biafraland.

“We are therefore calling on all those who claim to be Igbo leaders especially those on the payroll of Nigerian government to please retrace their steps before it is too late.”

Obasanjo will die, if I am eliminated, says IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu [Video]

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu yesterday, said former President Olusegun Obasanjo will die, for condemning the Biafra agitation.

Kanu stated this in reaction to Obasanjo’s comment that Nigerians must do everything possible to stop the agitation for Biafra led by Kanu.

In a video obtained posted by a Facebook user, Somto Okonkwo, Kanu said he and the people are indestructible and no man can stop Biafra from coming.

He said that the former president was going to die for speaking those words so that they will know how powerful the people of Biafra are.

His words, “I remember Obasanjo calling us names. They said we must eliminate Kanu and for those words coming out from his mouth, he is going to die,” Mr. Kanu declared.

“I told Obasanjo that I have given instructions to IPOB should anything happen to me. Everything that comes from Obasanjo’s lineage will die the same day at the same time. It is a standing instruction to IPOB.

“Wherever they are, we will kill them ourselves at the same time, the same day, 12 noon, wherever we find them all over the world. I am not like anything they have seen before,” Mr. Kanu boasted.

  • Biafra: ‘We are all witnesses to the injustices against the Igbos’- Charly Boy

Biafra: ‘We are all witnesses to the injustices against the Igbos’- Charly Boy

Controversial entertainer and activist, Charly Boy has put his weight behind Nnamdi Kanu the leader of IPOB(Indigenous People of Biafra).

In his recent article posted on his Facebook page, Charly Boy said that there will be no call for Biafra, If there was no Injustice in Nigeria.

According to him, for whatever reason, no man deserves to be ill-treated in his fatherland like Nnamdi Kanu. Charly Boy stated that he stands for equal rights and justice.

Hear him:” I am for equal rights and justice, period. Advocating for the okada community doesn’t necessarily make me an okada rider. Advocating for gay rights, doesn’t make me gay. Everybody is witness to the several injustices against the Igbo’s, we may differ on methodology. Biafra for me is a mindset. If there was no great injustice in the land, there would be no call for Biafra. So don’t get it twisted.

“Sometime in January 2017, I wrote about my thoughts on the Biafra and the many things my Igbo kinsmen can alternatively dedicate their all to. I titled the article “The illusion called Biafra”, those who haven’t read it should read it up because what I wrote therein will always be my stance on Biafra. We should channel our energies and abilities towards developing the South-East to become the economic-hub of Nigeria. Igbo nation and my people are great but for us to move forward we must kill this our individualistic tendencies, and come together to do great things”

He added that whatever happens to the Igbos inevitably has a spiral effect on the other geopolitical zones In Nigeria.

“Let it be clear to all that the sufferings and poverty of the People from the South East is also the sufferings and poverty of the peoples from the other geopolitical zones in Nigeria including my northern brothers. Even the nascent anti-corruption fight in the country has seen all tribe accordingly represented.

“Therefore, I conclusively insist that Our Mumu Don Do because; The Failure of Leadership is evident in our agitation for Fairness, Justice and Equality for every Nigerian not just for every Igbo man. And so the Mind of the typical Igbo Leader Needs a Revolution so that it can be realigned for the Interest of the People rather than the interest of a few”.

In his conclusion, he urged Nigerians to focus on Nigeria and begin to demand accountability from the leaders. “Let’s focus on our homeland, Our states, and begin to demand accountability and responsibility from many of our Scammers, Riffraff’s and Fraudsters in the entire nation”.

  • Biafra: Igbos in South Africa back Ohaneze, say no election boycott in Anambra

Founder of Ohaneze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural group in South Africa, Chief Jonas Udeji, has affirmed that the stance of its national body not to boycott the Anambra governorship election is in order.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Kanu had recently warned that the governorship election in Anambra scheduled for November this year may not hold if the Federal Government fails to recognise the Republic of Biafra.

However, in a counter motive, the Apex Igbo cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo on Wednesday said Kanu should not generalise the demand for a Biafra nation as some Igbos still believe in a restructured Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the group also cautioned Kanu not to arrogate himself as the supreme leader of Igbo land.

Udeji told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday that Kanu was not qualified to give such a directive on behalf of Igbos.

“ Ohaneze Ndigbo remains the apex body of Igbos in Nigeria and world-wide.

“ No single individual will give any order on behalf of Igbos if that person is not the elected President of Ohaneze.

“ We understand Nnamdi Kanu`s emotions about the plight of Igbos in Nigeria. But, he should realise that we have a leader and that is Nwodo.

“ He is the one to speak on behalf of Igbos,” he said.

Udeji urged Anambra people and other South East states to ignore such directive from IPOB and elect their leaders when the opportunity comes.

According to him, Igbos should collectively decide on such sensitive issues under the leadership of Ohaneze, their apex body, and not based on an individual’s directive.

He said that Anambra people had the right to elect their governor and other representatives at the local government, state and national levels.

Udeji said that Ohaneze under Nwodo`s leadership had been focused and remained determined to achieve set goals and objectives.

Biafra: You can’t stop Anambra elections, Police tell Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB

Sequel to a statement credited to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu that the governorship election in Anambra State scheduled for November by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, won’t hold if the Federal Government fails to recognise the Republic of Biafra, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Garba Umar, on Saturday said neither Kanu nor his group have powers to stop the November election.

Umar warned that the police would do whatever it takes, to ensure there is a peaceful election in the state.

In his words: “The election has been fixed by relevant federal government agency. Nobody can stop it. We have the capacity to provide a peaceful atmosphere in Anambra State for that election.

I have not heard from IPOB that it would stop the election, apart from what was published in the media. But that is for the media.

Nobody or group can issue such threat and succeed, because we have all it will take to subdue such threat. No group can do that. The people of the state have the right to have periodic elections to choose their leaders; nobody or groupcan stop them from exercising such right. We can’t allow it. It’s no done.

We are fully on the ground and we can suppress such threats,” he said.

  • Nnamdi Kanu’s utterances steadily reducing his influence – Jonathan’s aide

A former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has cautioned Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over his utterances.

The former Presidential aide faulted the IPOB leader over his alleged statement on the competency of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Omokri said: “In my widely published article advising Ndi’Igbo, I noted that the Igbo often mistake discretion for weakness.

Nnamdi Kanu proves my point! Calling Dr Goodluck Jonathan weak and incompetent is just a manifestation of what I wrote about.

“Nnamdi Kanu needs to understand something about leadership. Leadership is a platform that gives you the opportunity to increase your influence or reduce it until it is eliminated. Upon his release, public sympathy for him increased his influence.

“The successful sit at home further increased it. However, his utterances since then have been steadily reducing his influence. I know Chief Femi Fani-Kayode very well. He will soon hear the things Nnamdi Kanu said about the Yorubas. He has already heard about the things Nnamdi Kanu said about Jonathan.

“It will not be very long before Nnamdi Kanu loses one of his most valiant non-Igbo supporters. Apparently, what the Nigerian government couldn’t do to Nnamdi Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu is using his own mouth to do to himself!

  • Election boycott: Nnamdi Kanu has no authority to speak for Igbo people – APGA

Election boycott: Nnamdi Kanu has no authority to speak for Igbo people – APGA

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) says Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has no authority to speak for the Igbo people.

The party made the statement while reacting to IPOB leader’s call on people to boycott the Anambra governorship election scheduled for November.

In a letter addressed to Kanu and signed by Ifeatu Obiokoye, national publicity secretary, APGA said the call was “irresponsible and devoid of intellectual focus.”

It said the Igbo people had not “instituted a separatist movement or a terrorist gang” but were concerned about “Nigeria’s present structural arrangement.”

“Kanu has no authority to speak for the Igbo of the south-east, though APGA acknowledges him as the leader of IPOB,” the letter read.

“His call for a boycott of elections in the south-east, beginning with the governorship polls scheduled for November 18, 2017, in Anambra is irresponsible, irredentist and totally devoid of any focus.

“You must appreciate that for different logical reasons and perception, the Biafra concept has attracted favourable comments among our people, ostensibly borne out of the marginalisation of Ndigbo in the Nigerian state.

“While youths of the east are agitating for Biafra, the Arewa youths are equally restive; the same goes for Niger Delta youths and youths from Oduduwa states.

“In this popular agitation for Biafra, Ndigbo have not instituted a separatist movement or a terrorist gang as it were. We are more concerned about the continued existence of Nigeria under the present structural arrangement.”

APGA expressed support for restructuring but urged Kanu not to be carried away by the success of the May 30 sit-at-home call, which was attributable to many reasons, including fear.

APGA said the 2014 national conference report should be considered because it largely addressed parameters for the restructuring of the nation.

It advised the IPOB leader to drop his “emperor” perception of himself “and humble yourself to the true leadership of Ndigbo for a proper and better articulation of the Biafra struggle”.

  • No law empowers Osinbajo to jail us for seeking self-determination – IPOB

Indigenous People of Biafra on Tuesday tackled the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, over his comment to deal with Biafra agitators and hate mongers, saying that the group won’t be intimidated by such utterances.

Osinbajo had on Sunday warned that persons agitating for secession and the northern groups that issued the ultimatum to Igbo risked jail terms as they violated Nigeria’s laws.

He gave the warning at a consultative meeting with traditional rulers from the South-East at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Abuja. In a statement made available to newsmen in Awka, Anambra State by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group said there was no law empowering Osinbajo to jail any group in the country who would seek self-determination.

It said the group was empowered by charters and conventions under international law to seek self-determination as an indigenous people.

It accused the acting President of standing the law on its head, adding that domesticated charters and conventions were binding on member countries.

The group’s statement read in part “acting President Yemi Osinbajo has warned that persons agitating for secession and the northern groups that issued ultimatum to Igbo risked jail terms as they violated Nigeria’s laws.

“For such a statement to escape the lips of a learned fellow like Prof. Osinbajo confirms the widely held view that African leaders lack the mental capacity and discipline to operate a constitutional democracy in a modern world.

“If the corrupt ruling class in Nigeria cannot distinguish between those rights that are sacrosanct, such as freedom of association and freedom of expression under which IPOB operates, then the entire political edifice in Nigeria is a monumental mess.

“It is very shameful that a professor of law cannot situate the Nigeria constitution within the context and meaning of the right to self-determination as recognised in international law.

“Somebody should please draw the attention of Professor Yemi Osibanjo to the provisions of the Africa Charter on Human and Peoples Rights which Nigeria ratified and went ahead to domesticate into her local laws.

“How can a professor of law threaten jail term for those exercising their right to self-determination under laws adopted and ratified by Nigeria? This confirms again the widely held view that legal practice in Nigeria is one almighty joke.

“We are challenging Prof. Osinbajo to show the whole world how, where and when IPOB committed this offence he alluded to since the inception of the current phase of the agitation.

“Nigeria must understand how ready we are to go to prison. They should build more illegal detention facilities because we cannot stop agitating for our right to self-determination until the Nigerian government accepts the need for a date for referendum on the question of Biafra.

“Professor Yemi Osibanjo should have consulted superior legal minds to advise him before coming on air to make such misleading comments. The Nigerian Constitution and its provisions cannot supersede international charters and treaties freely entered into by the Nigerian state where such treaties appear to render null and void the obnoxious provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.

“United Nations charter on the rights of indigenous people and African charter which was ratified and signed by Nigeria is still in place till today and overrides the Nigerian Constitution on the rights of the indigenous people to the self-determination.

“We are warning the vocal few rented saboteurs and uneducated public commentators in Nigeria to stop the perverse insinuation that Biafra agitation is all about war. IPOB is not asking for war, rather what we are asking for is self-determination and the only way to achieve that is through the internationally recognised instrument of referendum or plebiscite.”
