  • ‘I have evidence’- Kingibe lays heavy allegations against Wike

Ireti Kingibe, the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has accused the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike of gross abuse of office, impunity, and serious land misconduct in Abuja.

In a recent interview, Kingibe stated that Wike allegedly reduced his son’s land bill from ₦200 million to ₦2 million within 48 hours. She also claimed that Wike revoked large portions of institutional land without legal justification.

The senator referenced documentary evidence indicating that Wike’s son received significant land allocations, with the minister reportedly approving a drastic reduction in fees. Kingibe described these actions as “unfair, unethical, and clearly illegal”.

“I have documents to show that Minister Wike allocated lands to his son… they wrote asking that he should give a waiver on the bill and reduce it,” Kingibe alleged on an Arise TV programme.

TheNewsGuru reports that the lawmaker further accused Wike of leading the FCT with impunity, flouting laws and bypassing the National Assembly in the re-establishment of agencies.

“The minister doesn’t obey the rule of law. He’s autocratic… when you try to draw his attention… he doesn’t accept that,” she said .

She pointed to his revocation of 7,000 hectares of land from the University of Abuja, leaving it with just 4,000 hectares, a move she called “against the Land Use Act”

Further examples included land in Bwari originally allocated for a general hospital, which she claimed was repurposed for commercial development.

“He revoked it and he’s having some sort of a market or mall… put on it,” Kingibe noted .

Kingibe also criticised Wike’s termination of indigent street sweepers without replacing them with machinery, leading to a visibly untidy city again.

“He comes, he’s fired them all… Then he doesn’t replace them with mechanical street sweepers. So Abuja is looking dirty,” she lamented

Kingibe accused the minister of harassing residents and embassies over ground rent enforcement.

“Minister Wike has been harassing all of FCT over ground rent, including embassies,” she added

  • Natasha vs Akpabio: Why Ireti Kingibe cannot fight for Kogi Senator – Shehu Sani

Natasha vs Akpabio: Why Ireti Kingibe cannot fight for Kogi Senator – Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the Senate from 2015 to 2019 has come to the defence of Senator Ireti Kingibe representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Senator Kingibe had come under fire for not standing against the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Recall that the Senate on Thursday suspended the Kogi Central Senator over total disregard of the rules of the Nigerian Senate.

Kingibe is a member of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions that suspended Senator Natasha.

The FCT Senator is also the Senate Committee Chairman on Women Affairs.

Given her position, many felt Senator Kingibe should have rallied round the embattled Senator Natasha when it mattered the most.

However, reacting, Sani wrote on Facebook:

“Some people are attacking Senator Ireti for not standing up to fight in the Senate.

She is already being fought at home by the FCT Minister. If she now picks another battle in the Senate, she will be at war both front and back.

“What will be left of her in that situation? You have to put yourself in her shoes to understand her predicament.

“There are moments you have to choose the battles to fight and the ones to defer.

“If Ireti fights on both sides, she will be loved by the social media but her constituents will revolt against her that “we didn’t send you to fight, we send you to bring something to us and help us”. Politics is intriguing”.

How Akpabio told Natasha to meet him at hotel – Ireti Kingibe

The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe has reacted to the ongoing controversy between her colleague, Natasha Akpoti and the Senate President, Godwill Akpabio.

TheNewsGuru earlier reports that Natasha during an interview on Arise TV on Friday, February 28, 2025 disclosed that Akpabio, made several inappropriate advances towards her during a visit to his residence in Akwa Ibom.

Recounting the incident on Friday, the Kogi Central senator claimed that the encounter occurred in December, just a day before their respective birthdays.

She further alleged that her trouble in the Senate began after she rejected sexual advances from Akpabio.

Speaking in an interview on Arise TV some hours ago, Kingibe said she is not so close to Akpabio to discuss sexual harassment.

She recalled a discussion with Natasha, who claimed Akpabio had invited her to a hotel, but she told the Kogi lawmaker to meet senators only at their homes and offices.

She said, “I don’t have a close relationship with Akpabio to discuss issue of sexual harassment. When I go to the Senate and my neighbours or Senator Natasha is not there, I collect documents on their behalf.

“I collected some documents for Senator Natasha, informed her and went to her house. She told me that she was supposed to discuss something with Akpabio but he said to meet him at a hotel, and I told her that you only meet the Senators in their homes, and offices not hotels and while we were discussing her husband came in.

Senator Kingibe denies sponsoring protests in Abuja

The senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe has denied sponsoring the ongoing protests in Abuja.

FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, had raised the alarm that an unnamed senator was one of those behind the Abuja protests by supplying them with food and water.

However, the Labour Party (LP) senator said the video being misconstrued was recorded six weeks ago during the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) protests at the National headquarters of the LP in Abuja.

Kennedy Mbele, spokesman of the senator, quoted his boss as saying: “I am shocked and outraged by the blatant lies and misinformation being spread by mischief-makers!

“The video being circulated is from over six weeks ago, during a Labour Party NWC meeting when the NLC was protesting outside the Labour Party office.

“As stakeholders, including Senators, House of Reps members, and Mr Peter Obi, we went out to engage with the protesters and address their concerns.

“Now, these deceitful individuals are trying to pass off this old footage as current, claiming that Mr. Peter Obi and I were leading protests in Abuja yesterday.

“This is a malicious and desperate attempt to discredit us. Let me set the record straight: Mr Peter Obi is not in Abuja, and I haven’t left my house since Wednesday due to illness, much less distributed food and water at the protest grounds, though that would be noble for whoever did.

“I condemn this orchestrated attempt to spread falsehoods and cause confusion, using it as the basis to claim I sponsored the Abuja protest.

“It is a shameless and irresponsible act that will not be tolerated. We will not stand idly by while our names and reputations are dragged through the mud by these unscrupulous individuals.”

I am being marginalized in senate committee matters–Senator Kingibe cries out

The senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has expressed her frustration over being sidelined in Senate Committee matters concerning her constituency.

Kingibe made this known during Tuesday’s Plenary session, as the Senate considered the 2024 N98.5bn Supplementary budget for the FCT.

Speaking under Orders 10 and 11, Kingibe said despite her position as the highest elected official in the FCT, representing over four million people, she is excluded from crucial discussions on FCT matters, particularly budgetary issues.

“Mr. President, as the highest elected person in the FCT, I am not carried along in matters pertaining to the territory, including budget discussions. Today, the FCT supplementary budget is being presented, but I was not informed about the procedure and was not invited to any meetings.”

However, Senate President GodsWill Akpabio interrupted Kingibe, requesting that she present her concerns in a motion.
The senators in plenary agreed that Kingibe would present her complaint in a motion the following day.

‘I don’t want your friendship’ – Wike knocks FCT Senator, Kingibe, says she’s a blackmailer

Nyesom Wike the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,  has told the Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, that he cannot be forced into becoming her friend.

According to Wike, he cannot become friend with a blackmailer.

The former Rivers governor accused the Senator of blackmailing him instead of communicating her problems through the right channels or better still focusing on her oversight functions.

Wike  stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja, stating that the lawmaker is aggrieved because the Senate President snubbed her for the position of the Senate Committee on FCT.

“I don’t want to be personal…she’s the Senator for FCT. She went around saying ‘oh, oh Wike is busy scraping roads…I should leave the roads till when the potholes come?” Wike said.

“Somebody wants to be your friend and you say ‘I don’t want to be your friend. Is it by force?’ The problem is that she wanted to be Chairman, Senate Committee on FCT and the Senate President said ‘I’m not giving you’.

‘What are you going to supervise me? You cannot supervise me. What is her interest, that I must see her? If I have a problem I’ll go and see her. I don’t have a problem. Nobody can intimidate me. Look, I was a Minister before. I became a governor of one of the most important states in Nigeria and she thinks that the only way you can bring me is to go to Channel, TVC, saying the Minister is not carrying me along.

“I don’t have the back to carry. It’s not about blackmailing. Do the right thing. You know her problem? She ran election with my friend Philip Aduda and she sees me taking Philip everywhere instead of her being the Senator. Should I abandon my friend because she failed election?” Wike queried.

Wike should tell me his plans on tackling insecurity – FCT Senator, Ireti Kingibe

The Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe has urged the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to disclose his plans on how to curb the kidnapping, and killing happening in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Kingibe, made this known while speaking on the security crisis rocking the capital city during a Channels TV program on Sunday.

She said that when the Senate resumes plenary, the Minister would be summoned to explain his plan to tackle the security crisis.

“It is not that I am hoping. I know he will be summoned. But whether he responds or not is a different matter entirely. But as the chief security officer of the FCT, he should have a plan.

“He should be able to tell us, the committee, and specifically me, that this is the plan for protecting the people of the FCT. Between him, the police commissioner, and the head of the DSS, they must have a plan”, the Senator said.

The lawmaker further disclosed that there is a “disconnect” between her and the FCT Minister, accusing the latter of ignoring her messages and letters in the wake of insecurity in the area.

  • FCT: NNPP Senatorial candidate rejects outcome of NASS election

FCT: NNPP Senatorial candidate rejects outcome of NASS election

The  New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has rejected the outcome of the National Assembly elections in the Federal Capital Territory and proceeded to the tribunal to seek redress.

The party alleged that the process that produced Ireti Kingibe, the candidate of the Labour of Party (LP) as Senator-elect for the FCT was marred by irregularities.

Mr Mubarak Tijjani, the NNPP’s party senatorial candidate in the FCT, said this at a news conference held in Abuja, on Thursday.

Recall that on Feb. 25, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mrs Ireti Kingibe of the LP as the winner of the FCT Senate seat.

Ireti scored 202,175 votes to emerge winner, adding that Sen. Philip Aduda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and incumbent senator came second with 100,544 votes.

“Mr  Angulu Dobi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) placed third with 78,905 votes.”

Tijjani claimed that the election was marred by irregularities ranging from over voting and the omission of NNPP’s logo from the ballot paper.

“We were sabotaged; all our efforts were sabotaged and undermined.

“I’m not trying to throw allegations but it is clear to everybody in FCT that LP and the INEC have played some certain role of sabotaging our efforts in NNPP.

“Our logo was changed on the ballot paper, which was something that has caused NNPP a great loss in the 2023 general elections that we will never forget.

“That is why I’m challenging the result that brought Ireti Kingibe as the Senator-elect. This is not a true democracy. Democracy did not play doing the 2023 general election,” he said.

Tijjani also said that the Agent’s tag for his party was not provided..

“A day to the election, they told us they forgot to print the entire tags for FCT.

“We were trying to improvise, the following morning we saw other party agents with their tags.

“By the time our agents who had trained to protect their votes, came to their polling units to do their assignment, they were only sent away by other party agents.

“We are highly disappointed in LP and we are not going to relent. We have to seek for justice not just for ourselves, for our people, for our supporters but for our democracy,” he said.
